Emery rotates key personnel out for North London derby

Unai Emery has named a much-changed starting XI for the North London derby.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) and Sead Kolasinac (£5.1m) have both been named on the bench, much to the frustration of their Fantasy owners.

However, those assets are not the only ones to miss out, with midfield men Mesut Özil (£7.9m) and Lucas Torreira (£4.8m) also among the substitutes.

Those who have held onto Son Heung-min (£8.9m) will be quite excited to see a back-four seemingly made up entirely of centre-backs.

With Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£4.4m) on the bench, Nacho Monreal (£5.4m), Laurent Koscielny (£5.4m), Sokratis Papastathopoulos (£5.1m), and Shkodran Mustafi (£5.4m) are the starting options in defence.

Harry Kane (£12.4m) and Son are the front two for Spurs, who are playing a 3-5-2 formation with Toby Alderweireld (£6.0m), Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) and Davinson Sánchez (£5.8m) flanked by Kieran Trippier (£6.2m) and Danny Rose (£5.8m).

Spurs XI: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Rose, Wanyama, Sissoko, Eriksen, Son, Kane.

Arsenal XI: Leno, Mustafi, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal; Guendouzi, Xhaka, Ramsey; Iwobi, Lacazette, Mkhitaryan.

Don't feel bad, I was seriously considering Ederson in for a hit. Up until the pen I was kicking myself that I hadn't.

This season is a complete washout for me. Nothing has gone right. Son and Auba=1 point. Doherty benched in a potential goldmine fixture.

Should be this - If you get the ball first, it's not a foul. Simple. Clears up all ambiguity. No more "could have"s or "what if"s.

      Such bullshit. Games gone.

What? You talking about Torreria’s red? Despite first impact you can’t go through someone’s shin or knee.. obvious red

it was the only reasonable and most natural way for torreira to try to play the ball imo

do you want him to just stand there

I can appreciate that it's a foul in today's "game "maybe, maybe a yellow at a push... But to send someone off when they've very clearly got the ball first leaves an extremely foul taste in my mouth.

Did Torreira break someone's leg though!? No!
You can't give red cards based on what could have happened surely! Give them for what has actually happened, which is winning the ball and the opponent being absolutely fine.

Any player who lunges at an opponent when
challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or
from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent, is guilty of
            serious foul play,

            Contact now is irrelevant.

I agree, but Nobwak wants to change that: reds only for broken legs or death, and only when you miss the ball 😆

I want to see fouls and cards given for what has actually occured, not what COULD HAVE occured... That is all. Nothing wrong with that.

"Nothing wrong with that". Okay you've spoken. I must agree.

The only way to get anything near to consistency is to allow refs to punish poor tackles, rather than the outcome of the tackles. That will stop people taking the risk of lunging in, studs up, ooff the ground, out of control, leg-breaking-potential tackles.

How is it endangering safety if you win the ball and the opponent gets up and walks away. Surely if you get the ball and your opponent is absolutely fine... then it's a perfectly timed, and more importantly safe, tackle?
Or are we giving fouls for what could have happened in an alternative reality now?

"How is it endangering safety if you win the ball"

                What??

                1. ENDANGERING =/= injuring
                2. Winning the ball is irrelevant to the danger or even the injury

                  5 years, 2 months ago

If the opposing player is absolutely fine then surely it's a safe tackle by definition.
