Captains

Captain Sensible – Deciding between Aguero and Sterling

As expected, the Double Gameweek 32 captaincy is centred around Manchester City’s two most powerful Fantasy assets.

Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) are the standout candidates and we’ll be assessing their credentials in this article.

However, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs properly if we didn’t also consider the other options.

We’ll be looking at all the best options four Double Gameweek 32, those who play two matches and those with just one.

Fantasy Football Scout members can enjoy our analysis of the data.

Captain Poll

Aguero has dominated the captain poll ever since day one and he currently has a 52% share of the vote. That’s no surprise considering his recent scoring record with eight goals in his last eight Premier League outings. Manchester City’s fixtures are also a huge factor of course, with Fulham (away) and Cardiff (home) about the most appealing pair of matches in Double Gameweek in recent memory.

However, his lead in the vote has shrunk ever since Sterling hit a hat-trick for England last Friday. Before the Three Lions thrashed the Czech Republic at Wembley, Aguero 61% backing and Sterling just 19%. The morning after, their percentages had changed to 58% and 22% respectively and by Sunday it was 55.9% and 26.9%.

As of the time of writing, Sterling is now up to 27.89% backing and it’s possible that in real terms his support among Fantasy Football Scout users is even higher than that. Unfortunately, you cannot change the recipient of your first and only vote in our poll, so there may be some who initially voted for Aguero but changed their minds after Sterling’s form for England.

The Manchester City pair are a long way off the other options considered in our poll. Eden Hazard (£10.9m) currently sits in third place but has the backing of just 5.4%. Chelsea’s fixtures aren’t quite as stellar as the Citizens’ but are still fairly appealing. The Blues also face Cardiff, although they are away from home, before Brighton come to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Hazard himself has just one goal in the last five Gameweeks but did score a combined total of 33 points in his previous encounters with Brighton and Cardiff earlier this season.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) is the fourth most popular candidate in the poll but very few managers are actually considering. We recently found out that he is the big hitter most likely to be left out by those playing the Free Hit chip in Double Gameweek 32 and that is reflected in our latest vote. Just 1.77% said they thought Kane was the best captain this weekend, with a trip to Liverpool and a home match against Crystal Palace.

Just behind the Spurs forward, and completing the top five, is Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson (£5.6m). Given that Cardiff and Fulham have hardly set the world on fire going forward in recent months, it’s no surprise to see interest in the Citizens’ defence. Their shot-stopper is probably the most popular of the captain picks at this end of the pitch because he is the only one nailed-on to start both matches of the Double Gameweek.

Paul Pogba (£8.9m) is the only other option to have more than 1% backing in the captain poll for Double Gameweek 32. Manchester United face Watford (home) and Wolves (away) over the next few days before both clubs then meet in the FA Cup semi-finals. There have been suggestions that the Red Devils will face rotated sides, which could bode well for their assets, but it remains to be seen how much that will affect their upcoming matches.

Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m), Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m), Leroy Sané (£9.3m) and Gonzalo Higuaín (£9.6m) complete the top 10 with scores of 0.87%, 0.71%, 0.5% and 0.5% respectively.

The most-backed single Gameweek player looks to be Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) but he only managed to pull in the support of 0.36% ahead of a home match against Newcastle.

I had this team before it was cool:

    Alisson
    Laporte / Robertson / Doherty / Luiz
    Pogba / Hazard / Sterling / Pedro
    Jimenez / Aguero (TC)

i didn't say it won't score points, sometimes uncool is the way to go.

People will shout you down because you won't have the same players as everyone else. Usually a sign it might do well

I always planned to have Pedro myself, but have never posted a team out of fear that people will realise that he's an option. Now when he scores 3 points with one blank from a start and one from a sub appearance we can at least feel cool about our maverick move.

Finding it really tough to settle on a 4th defender and prefer that than a £7m midfielder. Currently have Laporte - Azpilicueta - Young and can't double up on any of them. Are any of these favourable options?

Just back home after a long day (8:30pm here) and sat down with a beer and started a team from scratch with a clear head and a weekend buzz starting!
It has been a long two weeks FPLwise, with so many drafts that I've been unhappy with for whatever reason so thoughts appreciated:

    Kepa
    Azpi / Young /Trippier / Schlupp
    Sterling / Hazard / Sane / Son
    Aguero / Rashford
    (Hamer, Moutinho, Connolly, Quaner)

Have 1.1 tied up in my first sub which could be used elsewhere if needs be?

Yup, think I was going with Pogba more out of ownership fear and the fact I had so much money tied up in him originally. I think he could do well, but he's far from essential.
If Rashford is fit and playing no.9 he looks cracking value at the price, despite his recent dip in form, given Kaku misses out!

Why the Sane Love? His minutes have been horrendous. He has scored any attacking returns in 6-7 gameweeks and Like Jesus seemed to be a guy for the cups as it's very obvious Pep trusts B Silva more.

Ok he could score but you might have a player getting less then 60 minutes game time over 2 matches. Risk is not worth it for that price. The more I think about it this is an horrendous pick

            • 7 Years

I don't look at it that way at all, agree he's not an asset to buy if not on FH but he looks a beaut of a FH asset. I'm pretty confident he starts one and comes off the bench in another, he's a top player and has serious explosive potential. Prob my 5th or 6th pick on my FH. I know it's not a popular opinion and time will tell if I'm deluded 😉

Cheers, yeah really hoping that he can get the form back that he had earlier in the season! Can afford Alli or Eriksen too by downgrading Moutinho but think I prefer a punt on Son!
Been a favourite of mine since I captained him a few times and TC'd him with success last season! I was 1.8m at Christmas and Son helped me claw back to 140k odd, good memories despite a mediocre season 🙂

I was all for Kane this morning but those fixtures are tough and maube Higuain is a better shout but Giroud will definetly come in at some point. ManUs fixtures are pretty tough too. Where are all the DGW forwards?

Higuain will let people down. I wouldn't be surprised if Cardiff drew or even beat Chelsea. They are not a bad team at home. If that happens Giroud could be brought back in and even Hazard starting at a false 9. I actually HATE the Higuain pick

        • 5 Years

Higuain is a good bet. He will definitely start one game and probably two given his international rest. His 3 goals so far have come against teams in the relegation zone so given the fixtures, it seems Higuain is very likely to get a goal

Apparently Rashford is not guaranteed to play the full 90 I'm hearing. If that is don't that is triggering alarm bells for me.

B is safer but if you get your last midfield pick right you will score more points. In a league I'm 50 points down it's A. In a league I'm 50 up it's B
