Jeff: And we’re hearing that the final whistle has blown at the Ball-itch stadium, have you got an update for us Chris?
CK: Incredible Jeff, it’s been one way traffic all game like a blocked up roundabout…
Jeff: Not your usual word, Chris! We’re hearing the league has a new leader, can you fill us all in? I imagine it’s un….
CK: Inconceivable Jeff, they had three of their players involved in head to head clashes, and they’ve won all three!
Jeff: Wow! So which team is this, it sounds un…
CK: Unimaginable Jeff, because they also won the match AND taken home all the points.
Jeff: WHO IS IT CHRIS!!!!
CK: Unbelievable Jeff!
Jeff: […hitting desk with head…] THE TEAM CHRIS, WHAT’S THE TEAM?
CK: That IS the team, Unbelievable Jeff FC, Jeff, and they’ve only gone top of the Pundits Playoff league. I cannot believe it Jeff, it’s…it’s…
Jeff: …yes?…
CK: ..it’s outlandish is what it is!
Yes folks, the results are in, and Unbelievable Jeff FC are indeed top of the league following their demolition of Slaven’s Ball-itch. For those of you reading about the Pundits Playoff for the first time, this is a season long tournament where teams made up from FFS members combine their FPL teams and go head to head (in more ways than one!) for the chance of fantasy football glory…and a free FFS membership for next season.
Winner of Best Team Name, Motto and Avatar
However, before we get to the match results, there is the small matter of the Best Team Name, Motto and Avatar competition. I can reveal that the winners this season, with 41 votes, are…..A Whole Lawro B*llocks with their punk like team name, witty team motto “We mustache you to surrender” and a quite frankly disturbing, though esoteric (certainly not erotic, that’s for sure!) and dystopian representation of everyone’s favourite TV Pundit Mark Lawrenson’s many sided personality. Congrats to Lawro and his team mates, an outstanding effort.
Match Week 1 Results
The part you were all waiting for, here are the results for Match Week 1. Details of the opening Pundits Playoff fixtures, including scores, league tables, player values and team values are all here
But for those who can’t be bothered to navigate away from this page, I can reveal that WhenTheOWENgetsTough shocked Nirvana Scott Talent by winning all 15 points in their match, The Keane Fifteen beat BSC Small Boys (in the Park) FC, Back to Square Owen defeated “15” Musketeers, Brazil Nuts will be celebrating wildly after humiliating A Whole Lawro B*llocks, the pre-tournament favourites, and last but not least Blame It On Rio prevailed against Holly’s Hamsters in fine style. (The less said about my own performance in this last match the better. Sorry team mates!)
Player Values
The first scores of the tournament bring with them new player values, reset from Match Week 1. Player’s values are calculated using their ranking within the tournament, and are all shown on the Team Sheets, along with their score and team link. The current Most Valuable Player is Kadhai Paneer FC with 64 points. Kadhai made the brave decision to captain Alonso in GW9, which paid off handsomely in what turned out to be a low scoring week for most. Well done Kadhai.
Best Manager of the Period
Still three match weeks to go, but the current number one manager is Pirlo’s Pen, who’s team Unbelievable Jeff FC top the Pundits Playoff off league table, and sit second in the Classic league with 578 points in total. He also managed to select the highest scoring combined three H2H players (COK3Y5MURF, Morph and goktugerce who got 118 between them) and benched the second lowest combined score of 62. Well done Pirlo’s Pen, but of course still a long way to go. The winner of the Best Manager of Period 1 will be interviewed for this article, if they are willing, to give some insight into their player management, team tactics and other FPL subjects they want to discuss.
Match Week 2 Fixtures
This week’s fixtures are as follows:
- BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC vs WhenTheOWENgetsTough
- Back to Square Owen vs Nirvana Scott Talent
- A Whole Lawro B*llocks vs The Keane Fifteen
- Holly’s Hamsters vs “15” Musketeers
- Unbelievable Jeff FC vs Brazil Nuts
- Slaven’s Ball-itch vs Blame it on Rio
A reminder that each team must now nominate three players for each of the H2H matches to earn bonus points, and two players to grace their team bench who’s scores will not count. A brief reminder of how the scores work in each match:
Team with best combined score of their starting 13 will earn 9 points. In the case of a draw both teams get 3 points. A losing team gets 0 points.
Winner of H2H A will earn their team an extra 3 bonus points.
Winner of H2H B will earn their team an extra 2 bonus points.
Winner of H2H C will earn their team an extra 1 bonus point.
Any drawn H2H’s will share the bonus points for that H2H.
IMPORTANT: teams that fail to nominate their three H2H and sub players will forfeit any bonus points, so team managers make sure you get these done on time.
MW 2 DEADLINE FOR TEAM NOMINATIONS IS 18:00PM FRIDAY 25TH OCTOBER
Scoring on match days will be shown here
Everyone can input their own scores, and managers are responsible for checking their opposition scores. A reminder that Wildcard and Free Hit scores are allowed, but scores with Triple Captain or Bench Boost used should be adjusted to keep things fair.
May the force be with you all, except of course team “15” musketeers, the Hamsters are gunning for you!!!
