Vardy absent as Alli overcomes injury fears for Spurs

Jamie Vardy (£10.1m) is one of nine changes made by Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers for Gameweek 20.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.4m) and Jonny Evans (£5.2m) are the only players to survive from the Liverpool match with all other starts from Gameweek 19 missing out.

Çaglar Söyüncü (£5.1m), Ben Chilwell (£5.7m), Youri Tielemans (£6.4m), James Maddison (£7.7m) and Harvey Barnes (£5.9m) are all on the bench while Vardy is absence from the match-day squad entirely.

The centre-forward misses out on the trip to West Ham because his wife Rebekah gave birth and he is spending time with them.

“Jamie Vardy’s wife had a child today, so he’s with her and congratulations to them.” – Brendan Rodgers

Not only will West Ham be boosted by facing a second-string Leicester side, but they also have encouraging news of their own as Lukasz Fabianski (£4.9m) returns in goal for the first time since Gameweek 7.

They themselves have rotated to some extent with Michail Antonio (£6.9m) and Mark Noble (£5.0m) benched in favour of Carlos Sánchez (£4.3m), and Manuel Lanzini (£6.2m).

Meanwhile, there are similar frustrations for Fantasy managers at Carrow Road where Dele Alli (£8.9m) starts for Spurs with Lucas Moura (£7.1m) named on the bench.

The Englishman was considered a doubt for Gameweek 20, triggering a slew of sales, but he has overcome his fitness concerns to start.

Furthermore, Moura was the target for some of those selling Alli and it turns out that it is him who will have to feature as a substitute instead.

Norwich have benched Todd Cantwell (£4.8m) but Teemu Pukki (£6.6m) starts up-front.

Norwich City XI: Krul; Lewis, Zimmermann, Hanley, Aarons; Tettey, Vrancic; Hernandez, Stiepermann, Buendia; Pukki.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Gazzaniga; Sessegnon, Vertonghen, Foyth, Alderweireld, Aurier; Eriksen, Ndombele, Alli, Lo Celso; Kane.

West Ham United XI: Fabianski; Masuaku; Balbuena, Diop, Fredericks; C Sánchez, Rice; Anderson, Fornals, Lanzini; Haller.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel; Fuchs, Evans, Morgan, Justin; Mendy, Choudhury; Pérez, Albrighton, D Gray; Iheanacho.

Goal disallowed cause Pukki came back from a offside position but was onside when the ball was played. Oh dear! Going to be some red faces in the VAR control room.

There have been a lot of VAR decisions that really did not take a margin of error into the final decision on offside. I think it would improve greatly if you introduced a margin of error to take account for the period of time where the assist from the assisting teammate really began.

This could be translated into a margin of error that is acceptable for an onside call that looks offside in one single frame.

Genuinely what is the beef with the offside decision? It showed him being offside because a part of the body he can score with was ahead of any part of the body the defender could defend with. Is the point of contention when the ball is deemed to have been kicked? Because other than that I don't get it, his shoulder was ahead of alderweirelds knee

Firstly, the part of the body you are talking about, and the lines have been determined by a human, so prone to error and mistake.
2nd, var passed the reason to sky is that he was coming back from an offside position, which makes no sense and is wrong. He came back from offside, back on side.

I have no norwich or spurs, there is no fpl bias here either, var is not cut and dry like goal line tech, that has no human intervention, and it's right or wrong.
Var the lines, the moment the pass is made, is subjective, and can and has been wrong.

            1. @persecuted_by_mods

                The moment the pass has
been made is the only thing I can agree with, but they don't even really focus on that so all people here are really complaining about is just conjecture and conspiracies

                4 years, 4 months ago

1)Yes, a human using a computer, why do you think it's wrong?

                2) big whoop someone worded something wrong, they obviously didn't measure the offside from his original offside, they measured his second run and that was deemed to be offside so this is a non point really

You dont seem to understand, the frame is stopped and decided by a human, the line is decided by a human, it's not infallible software that cant be wrong.
It's a human decision, people go on as though, oh var says offside, so therefore it has to be correct decision.
                  It doesn't.

That's literally what I've just said so why are you trying to patronise me? I'm not saying it's 100% right, but it's the closest we can get right now so what's the point going crazy about it. I'm sure they pause it as instantly as they possibly can when the ball is kicked, and they put the line on the furthest part of both players bodies

I'm not trying to patronise, just putting my point out as to why I dont believe that var can be relied upon.
It should be used for clear foul play, no issue of that, if the ref misses something, or mistaken identity.
Or a clear error for an offside, where it's obvious, with those such as pukki tonight, its subjective on the line, and a cm makes him offside or onside.
Of course it's hard to enforce that.

                        1. @persecuted_by_mods
                            4 years, 4 months ago

The main problem for me is they don't just come out and give a standardised view of where they'll take measurements from, so it's at least consistent for all the decisions. In this case the armpit was down the middle of his armpit, whereas alderweirelds knees "line" was taken alongside his knee so yes I agree it's not 100, it's not factual offside but it's as good as we're gonna get I don't understand the conspiracies or people saying it's clear onside

Yep exactly. The single frame guess for when the assisting team mate actually passed, is probably better expressed as a range of time points (earliest possible pass point, latest possible pass point).

That margin of error could be translated into some form of allowance for acceptable onsides.

That being said, I don't know how the VAR determine the exact time the assist was given. Perhaps they already regulate that somehow.

                  1. @persecuted_by_mods
                      4 years, 4 months ago

Well that's just the best they can do, it'll have the teeniest margin of error but I guess that's just the new rule. People asking for daylight or these close decisions to go to the striker don't understand that that scenario can just go on forever, what if you allow daylight and then it's daylight + 0.1cm? Allow that too? Offside is offside

Yeah agreed - we can't expect it to be perfect in its first year of application. It would also help a lot if we could hear the VAR people explaining which rules they are checking and how they are being checked.

About VAR - the most crucial part of our body for balance etc is celiac plexus (stomach more or less). Players should have kinda of chips in their pans (as with goal line) and this would end this shambolic var decisions. You do not score with your 1mm off side elbow, to score you need right balance which is around middle of body.

For many years football fans have sung “You don’t know what you’re doing...”....turns out they were right.

It is a clear red line blue line thing as all the other tight VARs.

I dont like it, but there you go.

                    Why specific whingeing here?

It doesnt matter where he was, he was onside when the ball was played, otherwise all.players are coming back from offside!
At what point are you back onside?
