The best FPL defenders and goalkeepers to buy or include on a BGW29 Free Hit

Defenders and goalkeepers come under the spotlight as we assess the best players to bring in for Blank Gameweek 29.

With only four fixtures and a tricky set of match-ups to navigate, we have picked out the top options for all Fantasy Premier League budgets, highlighting options for Free Hit inclusion or free-transfer targets.

Can Brighton’s defence finally deliver on its expected goals conceded (xGC) rating? Is Emiliano Martinez (£5.4m) still the best goalkeeper in FPL? We assess all options in the article below…

need help on a starting point for my 29 transfers. It depends on City really

currently have Stones, Dias & Gundogan

    A: stick with these 3
B: Sell stones for gmwk29 player & get KDB as 3rd city post 29

It really is impossible to tell with city whos playing..... but Kevin captain Vs Leeds is appealing and I feel theres more value in attack for city vs defence over the next few game weeks

Up to you if you think its worth the punt, but if you dont do that I would do City def > Chelsea def for GW30 onwards

Salah still is who he was: undervalued Serie A signing, reinvented playing narrow in front three, best suited for counter attacking football with pressing up front. It's about Liverpool not being who they were, 2 or 3 years ago. End even when playing style doesn't suit him, he still finds a way to get 20 goals a season, although with penalties.

not a fan of taking too many hits but am I right in thinking it makes sense for a BGW?

Currently only 5 playing. Surely it makes sense to take a hit for attackers? Maybe less so for GK/Def as you are banking on a clean sheet to justify?

When the defender has conceded it is definitely over. When the attacker hasn’t scored he still always have a chance to score. And the attackers can score more goals/assists than one clean sheet. Therefore attackers are more valuable than defenders in this game.

"Not definitely over" once a defender has conceded. They can still score (like Dunk did this week), and some defenders are on corners, direct free kicks, and sometimes pens (like gold mine Leighton Baines, once upon a time). Their attacking returns score higher in the game. But it is true, obviously, that for mids and forwards attacking returns are the 'bread and butter' of their performance, and therefore have more potential to score big.

Simplistically, let’s say average gameweek score is around 60 points across 10 games, so 6 points per game.

One would expect the average then to be around 24 points in gw29 with only 4 fixtures.

A couple of injuries are making it tough for those with 5-7 players but I don’t really see the upside in taking too many hits this week, unless those players are for the next few games and/or you don’t have a wildcard left to play

Very predictable. Ponzi scheme red flags all over it. Posted it on here a couple of times but noone took interest. Company which should have been FCA regulated instead wrongly obtained consent as a betting company. Both betting and investment regulators had missed what was fairly obvious had they noticed the business.
