Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 18?

Despite 10 teams missing out on Gameweek 18, all of the Premier League’s current top three are still in action.

That means there are options beyond Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) for the latest captaincy decision, especially for the more maverick managers amongst us.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 18 Captain Poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 13:30 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

As you can see from the current results, Mohamed Salah is the leader of the Gameweek 18 captain poll. The Egyptian midfielder has accumulated 52.57% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden (£8.0m) is in second place, backed by 9.44% of users, ahead of his trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Ollie Watkins (£7.7m) occupied third place with 8.53% of votes before Aston Villa’s game was postponed, with the top-five list completed by Manchester City duo Joao Cancelo (£6.8m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m), with 6.91% and 6.2% respectively.

MOHAMED SALAH AND TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 14? 2

Mohamed Salah netted his 22nd goal of the season on Thursday, and in doing so, has equalled Jamie Vardy’s (£10.6m) record of scoring or assisting in 15 successive Premier League games. That means he has blanked just once across the opening 17 Gameweeks, as he continues to show a frightening level of consistency.

However, it’s worth noting that Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.2m) has outscored Salah in six of the last seven Gameweeks, thanks to a goal, four assists, four clean sheets and 12 bonus points.

    Rams
    Cancelo/james/trent/Alonso
    Salah/jota/foden/Silva/brownhill
    Watkins

    King/Liv/Antonio

I potentially have a starting 11 (if Silva starts)

I was thinking of using my freeT and Switching Antonio to Lacazette for a 2 week punt and to also have a stronger starting 11 for gw18.

I was thinking of holding Antonio for up coming fixtures though. At the same time, I'm thinking of either Son or Ronaldo soon so would probably need to take out Antonio anyway...

Wpuld you Antonio > Lacazette? Or roll on for 2 free transfers next game week?

Have 11 playing players as things stand.

    (A) Use FT to bring in KDB / Sterling for Bilva (stops me bringing Ronaldo in next time without extra transfer) or

    (B) Saka for Bowen (and bench one of Reguilon / Gelhardt) or

    (C) Roll and start both Reguilon and Gelhardt? Thanks!

No one can say for sure but any amount of doubt is a bad thing. If pep can bench 90% likely starters week in week out, Bilva’s fitness doesn’t bode well

If you can’t put out 11, and you pick someone who starts and will probably get at least 2 points, then the hit is low risk and there’s upside if they perform. So I would do it.

It's all guesswork but the nest option for this GW?

    A) CR7 & Lanzini > Sterling & Watkins (0.3 ITB) Gives me 9 outfield players (Cancelo,James,TAA, Bernardo,Salah,Mount, Ramsay & Ait Nouri (!)

    B) Lanzini & Dennis > ESR & Vydra ( 0.1 ITB) Again fields 9 players.

Transfers won't be made up till deadline any feedback is welcomed.

It broke little Jessie’s heart when he saw the team sheets that day. All his procrastination and deliberation shot to hell. Carefully calculated hits to field 11 in these cruel times. Only for Pep to roll out Mega Roulette … Klopp deciding that this week WAS the week to rest all of his stars. And that 1-0 Wolves victory … hard to take.

Jessie was last seen over yonder, crossing the prairie towards Dead Man’s woods … muttering something about 6 points from 3 players ….

If you're taking hits I would go for low owned players like Targett, Cash, Ramsey, KDB, Sterling, Lacazette.

Taking hits to get Foden, Ramsdale or Watikins is just pointless. Everyone will have the same players and you're starting with minus points.

I’ve been playing the more aggressive strategy considering a transfer is effectively only -2 points.

Thinking of Bowen + Gallagher -> Foden + Mount which will give me 11 players possibly playing. This is aggressive considering Bowen and Gallagher have decent fixtures.

    Ramsdale
    Taa, cancelo, James, alonso
Mount, foden, b silva, salah, jota
    Watkins
