The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 5 – Saturday

A mixed bag from Saturday’s action, as mid-price assets flourish and Eden Hazard stutters to disappoint his armband backers. Here’s the “Stock Check” from Gameweek 5 so far…

On the Up

Rickie Lambert
Southampton’s striker is well and truly in the mix for our third striker spot. We raised him in the Watchlist this week and Lambert lived up to his billing, gaining a brace in the 4-1 comeback victory over Villa. We anticipated his bandwagon – it looks like we’re going to get it.

Steven Fletcher
The Scot maintained his incredible form for the Black Cats, converting his fourth shot for his fourth goal to put Martin O’Neill’s side in front at Upton Park. Fletcher remains another candidate for our Fantasy forward lines, although again, Sunderland had just his one effort on target all afternoon.

Marouanne Fellaini
Yet again, Fellaini was outstanding for the Toffees: it’s tit-for-tat with the Belgian and Steven Pienaar who was also excellent in the 3-0 win at Swansea. Given Everton’s invigorated attacking form, there’s a case for considering both. For those wondering, we’d expect Pienaar’s assist to be awarded at some point.

Leighton Baines
We gambled on his Scout Picks selection for an away game but Baines duly delivered again. It was another display full of creativity, with the assist for Felliani’s goal and a clean sheet thrown in. We’ll keep on stressing this – if you’ve money to spend on your defence, spend it on Baines. If you haven’t money to spend on your defence, Baines is presenting a very good case to try and find it.

Kevin Nolan
A third strike of the season saw the Hammers rescue a late point again remind us all again of Nolan’s consistency as a mid-price midfield offering, with or without Andy Carroll leading the line.

Jason Puncheon
If you need a budget option in midfield, Puncheon just might be the man to rival Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling. The winger kept his place despite a debut for Gaston Ramirez and delivered his third goal of the season – at least we think he has – shortly after it was scored, the Press Association changed it to a Ciaran Clark own goal. We await the verdict on that one.

Going Down

Nathan Dyer
Dropped to the bench to make way for Pablo Hernandez’ debut, the spritely winger finally emerged for the second half with the Spaniard suffering a knee injury. Dyer didn’t last long, however, seeing red for two bookables to add further frustration for his concerned Fantasy owners.

The Swansea Defence
Five goals conceded in the two games since the injury to Neil Taylor. Chico will surely return to the back four for the trip to Stoke next weekend after he serves out his three-match ban in the Capitol One cup tie in midweek.

John Terry
Considered untouchable within the Chelsea back four, Roberto Di Matteo rested both him and Frank Lampard to the bench after the midweek Champions League exertions. Terry missed out on the shutout as Ashley Cole owners cleaned up.

Eden Hazard
Backed by the majority in our Captain Poll, the Belgian drew a blank and was replaced by Victor Moses on 61 minutes. Those who handed him the armband now face an uncomfortable Sunday as Robin Van Persie takes the field at Anfield. Decent returns for the Dutchman will again remind us all of his consistency as an armband option.

Fernando Torres
Still owned by 29% of Fantasy Premier League managers, a home fixture with Stoke looked like an opportunity to repay the faith that has remained following the Gameweek 1 double fixture. Sadly, as has often been the case, the Spaniard disappointed. With mid-price prospects flourishing – we can surely expect big sales ahead of Gameweek 6.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Still not sure what happened in the WBA game.

Article above says Ridgewell assist, but FPL site has it on Brunt. Can anyone clarify?

      Article wrongly says Ridgewell.

FPL has it wrongly as Brunt.

It was clearly a Long assist! 😆

            Long assist.

Goal! West Bromwich Albion 1, Reading 0. Romelu Lukaku (West Bromwich Albion) left footed shot from the centre of the box to the centre of the goal. Assisted by Shane Long with a headed pass.

Long headed the ball to Lukaku who scored.

The sky commentators wrongly identified Long as Ridgewell, ever since then fpl have had it wrong.

    Please RMT....

I don't usually comment on this but need some help!

    Jaask, DDG,
Vertonghen, S. Taylor, Hangeland, Jenkinson, Clyne
    Hazard, Kagawa, Michu, Peinaar, Gutrhie,
    Rvp, tevez, Graham

    Opinions please???

I wanna take a -4 hit to do Vertonghen - Gallas & Graham - Berba before Berba has a stupid prise rise (Which are insane this year)...

However i have a feeling Aguero is going to ethier score or look very sharp tomorrow and realistically see him as the long term city forward over Tevez?? but would have to wildcard to make room due to point hits?

If i wild carded now my team would be:

    Jaask, Foster,
Gallas, S. Taylor, Hangeland, Demel, Clyne
    Hazard, Kagawa, Michu, Peinaar, Gutrhie,
    Rvp, Ageuro, Berba

Can someone please help because i don't usually ask for opinions and just go with my instinct but am generally wanting some views here because im stumped and see no comments on Aguero! Do people think Aguero the better option and is my wild card worth it or am i okay to go with just the 4point hit?? Please what would you guys do with this team????

Hard to forget Aguero though especially if he was to have a brace tomorrow or at swansea.. Everyone would be getting him in then and id have to play a wild card just to fit in aguero? I dont want him to ruin my party and i know he will

Seeing Chelsea positioning worries me. Practically Hazard, Torres, Oscar and Mata had same average position. That's why we were struggling. No wight threat. Maybe it was the way Stk were defending but I worry about my team and goal scoring potential. With all those wingers I thought this will never happen.

When Moses came he was more of a winger or striker on the flank as u wish. It looks like RDM is right when he plays Ramires on the right.

Nice spot. I believe you are falling into the City "central car crash" problem. They couldn't score much either in 2nd half of last season despite being technically amazing.

There is no doubt RDM has left Chelsea short in attack. The is only so much wide play or CAM's you can have but ultimately you need goalscorers to do the build up play justice. Stoke are a particularly difficult team to break down though so I wouldn't worry too much.

Seriously thinking about doing Michu>Fellaini. Yes it's a knee jerk, but I have 2 FT this week and no clue what to do with them. Doubt Michu will do anything against Stoke and I can always get him back for the 2 home fixtures by dropping Barfa. Fellaini seems like a real threat to all teams and has nice fixtures. The only issue is that I'll lose 0.5 from my team value. What do you guys think?

Could just switch Fed for Mcarthy, which would give you 0.5 to play with. Would probably only be a short-term solution though

RVP is a must the problem is he cost way to much if he's in your team or not if that makes sense

TBH, he's easily affordable. All the value is in midpriced midfielders and I think that may well continue.

For people curious as to why Chelsea struggled to score against QPR and Stoke - give this a look. Even features Stoke! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBaDDC6ca08

I have three players on my transfer out list-graham, gibson(don't ask wh I have him) and cuellar..
I intend to replace them with lambert, pienaar and low ton but don't want to take more than an 8 point hit.
    Advice?

      Graham -> Lambert, ok.

But I'd play the same back line next week rather than take a hit for a defender. Then you can downgrade Rangel to a 4m defender and upgrade Gibson to a solid mid-priced midfielder.

Alternatively, you can take a 4pt hit now, and do Gibson -> Pienaar.

In regard to this Pienaar assist (yes i know people might be bored of it) but, if you liken it to the fact when a player wins and the scored the resulting penalty no assist is given.

Pienaar passed the bloke the ball, he ,missed it came back to him and he scored. He assisted himself basically.

In the penalty example you don't see assists given to the player who passed the ball to the bloke who was fouled and the scores.

For me its not an assist. Its different to the Sterling one as no one was in control of the ball until Suarez scored, it just pinged about.

Just looking at the stats for the Chelsea game, average positioning of the front 4 is mental. Reminds me a lot of this:

Bleh. A green arrow of merely 7K places (was 96K now 89K), which will surely turn into a huge slide down the rankings after RVP bangs a hat-trick tomorrow.

          Lescott.

Ivanovic was playing as CF today!
