The Midweek Team News

Artur Boruc is out for a number of weeks with a broken hand for Southampton, whilst Kelvin Davis is also injured ahead of the visit of Villa. Philippe Coutinho is fit for Liverpool’s home game with Norwich, though Kolo Toure is doubtful with a hip problem. Bacary Sagna is likely to miss out for Arsenal. Angel Rangel is out for at least a fortnight for Swansea, who expect Michu back in training this week. Sam Allardyce and Alan Pardew both talk rotation, whilst Tony Pulis looks to Cameron Jerome and Marouane Chamakh to grab the goals in his first home game in charge of Palace. Here’s a summary of the press conferences so far:

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino handed Fantasy managers an early-morning heads-up in his pre-9 a.m press conference. The Argentine confirmed Artur Boruc is out for “some weeks” with the broken hand sustained at Chelsea, whilst Saints second-choice stopper Kelvin Davis is also out of tomorro’s match with Villa, as is Morgan Schneiderlin, Danny Fox, Gaston Ramirez and Guly Do Prado, as the injuries start to build.

Arsene Wenger has revealed Bacary Sagna is expected to miss tomorrow’s match against Hull, with Carl Jenkinson set to deputise at right-back. Steve Bruce will check on the availability of Paul McShane, who has recently been sidelined due to a hamstring problem, whilst the Tigers boss admitted James Chester may be handed his first start since Gameweek 5 after finally recovering from a similar complaint and taking a place on the bench last week.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Philippe Coutinho “will be fine for Wednesday” after the Brazilian picked up an ankle problem prior to the weekend loss at Hull. Coutinho is poised to return to the Reds starting XI against the Canaries, though Kolo Toure is a doubt after picking up a hip problem towards the end of the 3-1 defeat at the KC Stadium.

Sam Allardyce has admitted he could be set to freshen up his starting XI ahead of this evening’s encounter at Palace:

“We have only a few niggles from Saturday’s game. We don’t consider they will cause us any difficulties in terms of the selection process, but having three games in a week, it may be about asking other squad players to step in and do a job on Tuesday or on Saturday.”

Alan Pardew has also hinted at rotation as Newcastle make their way to Swansea. The Magpies boss has tinkered less than most managers over the last few games, but conceded he may hand a few squad players a run out at the Liberty:

“A few have been knocking on my door this morning asking to play. Steven Taylor, Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse, Vurnon Anita and Jonas Gutierrez – they’re all desperate to play. We’ve got real competition for places. That bodes well. We’re going to need to freshen it up and change it.”

Both Roberto Martinez and Chris Hughton confirmed they have no new injury concerns ahead of trips to United and Liverpool respectively.

Tony Pulis has talked up the partnership of Marouane Chamakh and Cameron Jerome ahead of his first home match in charge of Palace. The former Stoke boss looks poised to retain the 4-4-2 rolled out at Norwich last week, as he went on to say:

“I really hope we can get him on board because he’s got really good quality. He linked up well with Cameron, and we have to make sure those two have a partnership and a relationship and that they play together as a pair.”

Michael Laudrup has received a significant boost after scans revealed Wilfried Bony will be sidelined for just 10 days with a hamstring injury. The Swansea summer signing was feared to be out for a number of weeks but will be back before the turn of the year – as will Angel Rangel, who misses up to three weeks with a calf injury. Reports in the local press also suggest Michu may be back in training this week, though tomorrow’s game with Newcastle will come too soon.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream for breaking news as Tuesday’s press conferences unfold in what is shaping up to be a busy day for Fantasy managers.

I need to downgrade Ozil to free up funds for Rooney. Thinking now is a good time to do it with talk of Ozil rest. Who would you bring in?

    a) Walcott
    b) Gerrard
    c) Keep Ozil

I'm been going back and forth as to whether to get rooney or lukaku.

Looked at the fixtures and I'm finding it hard not to bring rooney in. I know he's on 4 yellows but surely a tactical yellow coming in the villa game so he gets suspended for carling cup tie. They can't afford to lose him in the league at the moment.

Lukaku. He will probably score just as many, if not more points as Rooney this GW. Then from GW16 he has superb fixtures.

        Shares his points?

That's like saying Aguero shares his points with Negredo or Suarez shares his points with Sturridge.

Having such a good player besides him only enhances his chance for points.

More goals yes, having a smaller portion of those too, yes. Like the pen he scored from this weekend would've been RVP's etc. Smaller portion of a bigger pie.

I'm very close to doing B for same reason. Just worried with Ozil being a flat track bully at home that he will run riot tonight, as Hull will park the bus and may need yer man to pull them open. This is what makes me think he will start...

thinking about back to last year strategy

for some reasons i didnt watch matches at all and i did brilliantly well in fpl

now when i watch almost every match i dont do as good and oftenly i overthink

so i am likely to take a mini-break from watching games and see will that improve my rank

i know this dosn't sounds normal but it's true

i've based my transfers on highlights after matches in last year and that been very successive

As dumb as it sounds, this is actually the case for me as well. Usually when I'm out doing stuff with the lady, mates etc and check livescore on my phone 65 mins into the games, I usually score well. If I sit in front of the TV with fantasy on my Ipad I score shite.

Wow , do you know Jonty the one thing I seem to have forgotten to do this season is actually look at the rhs of the FPL points page and see who has the top scores - I've forgotten how good a guide this is tbh. Another is looking at the top 10s teams weekly , I see Forca above is looking to change his strategy but this is becoming mine.

I've always said there's value in looking at the top manager's teams to see who is scoring them points. Obviously I also base my decisions on meticulous research, analysing fixtures etc...honest.

I've gone from 890,901st in Gameweek 5 to 61,943 in Gameweek 13 with a TV of £107.9m by being 'casual'.

Just looks a really good team to me, you won't get the team value to afford that team without having made some good early transfers. Also how many 'casuals' have that strike force? It's popular on here but not that common elsewhere.
You can't call people casuals for having the highest scoring players in their teams - it makes sense to have them!

I was having a bit of craic tbh I really didn't overthink it but it's kinda where I would go if I were Wc ,
Obv Gru / Luka would be in their front 3

Trust me mate, the casuals are catching on. They are popular names and doing well getting good coverage in media. I have a family league of 15, 80% of which are playing this for the first time.

Majority of the strikers are Suarez Rooney Aguero. And they are bang on casual. Transfers either right after games or the day of deadline.

      no.

hardly anyone has gerrard. mignolet also almost double the ownership of boruc. barkley in every casual team. giroud the highest ownership of forwards.

seems like you are just jealous of some other peoples success

I currently have a team value of 109.4m and I'm still 2.5m off of being able to afford this team.
This is not the sort of team that someone who logs in once a week would have.

I'm not sure why anyone's surprised by the inclusion of Stevie.
He's a points machine lately and casuals quite sensibly won't have been getting in Walcott as he's not in the starting X1 yet. It's clear to anyone that for all their talent Chelsea mids may be prone to rotation at any minute.
Lallana though, with all his England hype a casual hot pick of late I reckon..

Coupled with Wenger mentioning "it's difficult to leave out Verm" it leaves the possibility of half the back four being changed. Though maybe he will decline to change anything voluntarily now that he's been forced to lose Sagna.

Do you mean for all the gameweeks since the start of the season? If that's the case, I don't think it would make much sense, things change from week to week. You could just look at ppg on the FPL site for most popular defenders and midfielders among the top 10K.
If you mean on a gameweek basis, than I've been doing it for the last two weeks. Look at the last two tables:
      GW12: http://wp.me/p47iV9-3r
      GW13: http://wp.me/s47iV9-334
Anyway, to decide what formation to play, I think you should rather look ahead and base your decision on the squad that you have and their fixtures
