Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 34

With a blazing Gameweek 33 cooled off we check out the stats that matter in the Sky game using the usual info, including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 34.

Gameweek 33 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man of the Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man United vs Aston VillaWayne Rooney
Crystal Palace vs ChelseaCameron Jerome
Southampton vs NewcastleAdam Lallana
Stoke vs HullAsmir Begovic
Swansea vs NorwichWayne Routledge
West Brom vs CardiffSteven Caulker
Arsenal vs Man CitySanti Cazorla
Fulham vs EvertonSteven Naismith
Liverpool vs TottenhamLuis Suarez
Sunderland vs West HamAndy Carroll

Five of the ten awards went to forwards this week with midfielders chipping in with three and defenders and goalkeepers claiming one each. Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez delivered for us after we backed them last week as our preferred captain options – Suarez is now joint top with Eden Hazard for MoTM awards with nine each whilst Rooney is close behind on eight.

Gameweek 33 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week – Tim Howard and Robert Elliot were the top performers with seven saves each. Vito Mannone also managed bonus, as per usual, and sits head and shoulders above the competition on 26 additional points.

In defence, only five players gathered bonus, three for tackles and two for passes completed – full-back John Flanagan was a good player to own this week as he gathered tackling bonus, a clean sheet and an assist to bring home a tidy haul of 12 points. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 26 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – seven for tackling and six for passes. Sunderland’s anchor man Liam Bridcutt was the closet to achieving both, missing out by one completed challenge. Cheik Tiote is the games top bonus-earner with 40 extra points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

Alvaro Negredo’s stock continues to decline after a lack of first team action. Emmanuel Adebayor is back for Spurs on Monday night, though Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscienly are still sidelined. Olivier Giroud’s lack of consistency also sees 3.31% of Fantasy managers part ways with the Frenchman.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SturridgeLiverpool9.24.85%
RooneyMan Utd9.63.88%
HendersonLiverpool63.78%
RodriguezSouthampton7.93.69%
GerrardLiverpool8.13.36%

Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney continue to rise in ownership due to their impressive form. As per usual Liverpool assets are being targeted once again, with Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard also featuring for the Merseysiders this week. Jay Rodriguez’s two-goal display against Newcastle has brought him to the attention of a further 3.69% of Fantasy managers.

Gameweek 34 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 34, there is an option for three captains if you wish to use a transfer.

Our Strategy:
Wayne Rooney (Newcastle Away) → Luis Suarez (West Ham Away) → Emmanuel Adebayor (Sunderland at Home)

For the fixtures on Saturday April 5, we’re backing Wayne Rooney to produce the goods once again against a lacklustre Newcastle side – Man United have been strong on the road, and with Rooney not only likely to be fielded up top but also with penalties added to his repertoire, he looks a solid option.

For Sunday April 6, a switch to Luis Suarez is the obvious choice once again as Liverpool travel to Upton Park.

For the match played on Monday evening, using a captain change or transfer to give Emmanuel Adebayor the armband looks a canny move, as not only does it mean we can get three captains this week, but it serves to set us up for Gameweek 35 when Tottenham travel to The Hawthorns on Saturday the 12th.

    I have 2 FTs and want to start aiming towards either Aguero for the DGW or getting Roo in the following week.

    Mannone Adrian

    Fonte MOllson Azpi Distin Chambers

    Noone Haz Yaya Silva Stevie G

    Studge Lukaku Aguero.

    I'm thinking about

    Fonte-> A cheap defender (seeing as Chambers should play mostly)

    Next week then I can do

    Stevie G -> Lallana

    Lukaku -> Aguero

    Sounding good or any better suggestions?

    Now that there is a possibility Aguero may get some gametime in the DGW 34, which transfer option to go with (already have Toure) after this gameweek:

    A: Sturridge + Williamson ---> Dzeko + Zaba (-4)
    B: Williamson ---> Zaba
    C: Eriksen ---> Nasri
    D: Sturridge ---> Aguero

    Got two free transfers and it seems a waste to not use one this week ready for wk34 but who would you change out of this lot? Defence all have great run-ins or the dbl, can't really drop Yaya or Haz, Punch and AJ get the DGW and not got the cash to do much with the front line (£1M ITB).

        Sacrificing Stevie G, who plays against City, for Lallana and Lukaku, who couldn't score in a brothel, for Aguero. No hits either so any damage if Aguero does nothing is fairly minimal in my view. Will be waiting until later next week to make a decision obviously.

      Posted this in the last article but got lost at the bottom of that page. To avoid further Aguero questions from FFS community re-posting this now on the new thread.

      Q: What effect do you think this latest injury update on Aguero has on the upcoming DGW?

      A: Not much, IMO. Nothing has changed, really. Manager's words only suggests how important Aguero is for City's title winning prospects & he only wants to preserve the guy for the upcoming big game.

      Q: So you say Aguero will start against Pool?

      A: I say it's very likely. Depending on how he looks on the field that day his game time will be decided by Pellegrini. Nevertheless I can see a minimum 60 minute run out if he looks fit & running well on the field.

      Q: What about his game time for the most profitable fixture of City against Sunderland?

      A: I say either way he'll start. If he starts against Pool that means he's fit. If he plays a sub role against Pool that means he's likely to be fully fit for midweek match. However if City are winning that comfortably he's likely to be taken off around an hour mark.

      Q: What about Edin Dzeko's prospects?

      A: We've seen the trend of City going with lone Striker system in big matches (especially in away games) almost all season so my money would be at 4-2-3-1 against Pool so Dzeko likely to play as an impact sub (if as expected Kun starts). Against Sunderland City are likely to revert to 4-4-2 so Dzeko should play alongside Aguero on the basis of current form. Basically his minutes really depend on how well he plays tomorrow.

      Q: What's your conclusion?

      A: Get Aguero next GW. If you're still worried about his minutes even by next Saturday you need not Captain him. As City's fixtures look too good for rest of the season a match fit Kun is the closest thing to Luis Suarez or as good as him because of extra 2 fixtures. Dzeko is really not the viable alternative for Kun but he is definitely a bargain if he starts week in week out. Kun should be the priority but if you can't afford him at all or tear your rest of the team apart for him then Dzeko is a decent pick for the next DGW.

          Don't think Aguero coming back has nothing to do with his starting prospects. 4-4-2 or 4-3-2-1 he should play. Ahead of Navas in the pecking order now.

              You're not wrong at all. I probably considered the most recent examples lets say against Barcelona. MP went with lone Striker system there too. I still think 4-2-3-1 against Pool & 4-4-2 against Sunderland is the likely scenario. Appreciate your response.

            Given the uncertainty on distribution of minutes between Aguero and Dzeko for the DGW, Madridista's idea of triple City midfield for this and next GW may not be such a bad idea (YYt,Silva,Nasri)

              You'd want a City Striker for the run in IMO. Coverage concept doesn't really apply to attacking players. Defenders get CS points collectively but here it's individual points. You can't make up for Aguero/Dzeko's points with MF. However I agree that's not a bad idea.

                Could work for the next two only, and then transfer for Aguero in GW35. In my case I'd be doing Gerrard->Nasri instead of Gerrard->Eriksen this GW using extra FT, so not that much lost

            Still doesn't justify getting him in for Sturridge, which is what most people will be doing.

              You just can't do stuff for people any more. I read this as your opinion coupled with facts from the presser and people are reading it as the law and are moaning about it.

                Partly I'm to blame. I should've started this post by saying that it's my opinion. Also could've explained bit more as to why I think in this way. Thought it'd be too long so started straight away. Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it. 🙂

                Hopefully Kun will justify this post with a bang next weekend.

            Tough decisions ahead with the DGWs, but top players with only singles could still outscore them. Particularly when considering rotation possibilities.

          I am planning to sell Rooney and Mata next week. Getting Kun up front, but I have a problem then.
          Can Nasri be as decent option as Silva until the end? I just can't find the way to afford Silva. Would have to sell Lallana or Sagna.

          To get Aguero in I have to downgrade someone by £1m in GW34...

          Currently:

          Yaya Silva Hazard Mirallas Mutch
          Suarez Sturridge (--> Aguero) Lukaku

          Silva -> Nasri would do it, as would Mirallas -> Barkley.

          Any better ideas?

            Another idea ... if Silva continues to outperform Yaya and it looks like Aguero will play 180 minutes (hence Yaya no longer on pens) then I might consider Yaya -> Nasri, enabling a big fat defense upgrade in GW35!

                  ...that one alone brings in a lot of points though doesn't it? Took me two third of the season to work that out. Feeling dirty or not, points on the board are what counts!
