The Community Round Up

Fallen stars in both the Premier League and Fantasy football proved a key topic of debate this week as the community mulled over another update to our manager’s Hall of Fame, the status of Sergio Aguero’s precarious hamstring and the painful demise of Fernando Torres. As the season enters its final Gameweeks, the community also cast an eye back to past glories and mistakes from this term, as well as dreaming of an improved season in 2014/15.

We revisit all these key discussions and also find time to catch up with our community tournaments, to find one particular community member beaming with pride after winning a special and much-coveted beverage-based accolade.

The Hottest Topics

Manuel Pellegrini’s press conference this week offered a glimmer of hope that City’s injury prone striker Sergio Aguero will be fit to start both fixtures in double Gameweek 34. But our discussion on his fitness showed widespread concern about the Argentine’s pitch time, from, among others, Champ and Keith. Alberto Tomba is also a worried man; in his thread, entitled Forget Aguero, he argues the community might be better served looking elsewhere to complete their three-pronged attack. The Argentine was a major ingredient of the week’s chatter, with A Defender’s Nightmare, on hand to offer a definitive guide to the subject matter, answering the key questions around Aguero’s game time and effect on his team-mates’ positions and point scoring potential.

With a possible return on the cards, Aguero was among a host of players to feature in our Best Double Gameweek 34 team discussion. Dip in to get some views on the key players to target and the assumed sweet spot when it comes to the Gameweek 34 roster.

With so many injuries in recent seasons, is there a possibility that Aguero’s star will wane permanently? One prolific Premier League striker has already suffered that particular fate: Fernando Torres was dropped in favour of a false nine by Jose Mourinho for the Champions League clash with Paris St Germain this week. Boc610 was among those lamenting the decline of this once-great goal scoring talent.

Fallen stars of the Fantasy Football variety emerged from the discussion surrounding the latest update in our Hall of Fame. Mark, Granville and Evs were among the Fantasy managers taking a tumble in this latest refresh. Their tough season prompted Christina to look at some other declining figures, with former Hall of Fame leader Ulrik Nuylund and Jafalad among those featured in his analysis.

The consistent returns from the early season bandwagons has often been cited as one of the key ingredients of this season and perhaps a factor in some established Fantasy managers’ struggling seasons. Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure have been major bandwagons who sustained form when fit, with Asqushypotato asking which other high scoring players the community missed and lived to regret. Among those to respond was Applebonkers, who has swerved Adam Lallana’s points and Loco Abreu who has sidestepped Seamus Coleman’s goal scoring hauls.

It’s not just Fantasy managers who mistime their transfer dealings. Demel’s’s hot topic this week focused on the worst buys in the Premier League this season, with Fulham’s Kostas Mitroglou and Tottenham’s Erik Lamela among the travesties dug up for all to see.

Demi, in contrast, was in a more positive mood and sparked this discussion about the very best buys from the campaign. Top of his list was Manchester City’s midfielder Fernandinho, who has brought out the best in his teammates, seemingly playing a major role in Yaya Toure’s extraordinary transformation into a true heavy-hitting Fantasy asset.

John Terry’s Dog was also keen to recall some success stories, quizzing the community on their best Fantasy Premier League moments. Athletico Timbo’s acquisition of Shola Ameobi just before he scored an extremely rare hat-trick just had to be amongst the pick of the tales on show.

Whilst we fondly reminisced , the community also looked ahead to 2014/15 to assess how the summer transfer activity could improve the array of choices on our player lists. A decent Chelsea striker was top of many of our wishlists – a factor that would surely offer another big alternative up top, whilst potentially shaking up the output of the Blues’ midfield assets.

Finally, in case you missed it, Mark popped in on Thursday to give us an update on plans for the ScoutCast. Check out the midweek Hot Topic for some clues on the new “live and interactive” direction – we’ll have more on this later this week.

The Community Tournaments

In the Worst to First- 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, first placed Teltzham Hotspurs now sits alone in the top 10,000, after second ranked Bales of Fury slipped to 10,470th after Gameweek 32.

The winner of Gameweek 32’s Scout Pick Challenge, which is loosely based on our own Scout Picks, created by @ocprodigy, was Djberil with an impressive 74 points.

In Torres Magic’ss leagues this week, 14 were eliminated from his Last Man Standing ladder, leaving 25 to fight another day. His Millionaire Club ended this week when the final five managers all failing to qualify. Mayanyi comfortably leads his mid-season leagues. Triggerlips vs Urinal is the battle of the regulars in his knockout tournaments, where 32 remain.

The Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators league saw Spencer cling on to first place after Gameweek 32, albeit with a far slender lead of just four points.

Gameweek 32 saw the conclusion of FFS UEFA’s Champions League Round of 16. The victorious octet were Dogba, Billy Ketsu, TW, Shipstontrev, Beric, Ajay, ENR and Isacki. In FFS UEFA’s Europa League the second leg of ties in the Round of 16 take place during Gameweek 33. Full details here.

Finally, we are delighted to congratulate Declan on winning the Long and Winding Road’s coveted Tea Cup tournament. He beat Chrissy Waddle in the final and wins a range of tea-making goodies.

Why did Luk play so far to the right yesterday? Because Monreal is crap? Naismith looked more central most of the time...or due to Osman injury?

      Purely tactical.

The manager targets the other teams weakness.

Wenger just uses the same tactics all the time.

      B. I fancy Dzeko's gametime to be reduced (I currently have him) so I'm reduced to either hoping he still scores well despite this, or doing a sideways transfer to Aguero. A few days to stew it over but not having Aguero could be a dangerous move.

FPL is paying me only 10.1 so if someone here is willing to top that, I'm definetely selling to him.
      Haha, I'm so damn funny.

I look at FTs as 4 points so it may be a case of Ward needing a CS to make it worthwhile.

Morning guys! What do you think about these transfers for the DGW. I would like to bring Aguero in but not sure if thats worth it even for free when you take into consideration the form of Pool.

As we all know it is DGW next week and if you have planned ahead, you probably have at least 4 players in your team who will have DGW and 2 FT to get more in.

The teams with DGW this week are:

Crystal Palace who have Villa at home and Everton away.
Everton who have Sunderland away and Crystal Palace at home.
Man City who have Liverpool away and Sunderland at home
Sunderland who have Everton at home and Man City away.

Another thing we need to consider for this GW is both Man Utd and Hull have no fixture. Looking at these fixtures it is only really City and Everton who are worth investment, although Palace defence and Puncheon may be worth a punt if you are feeling lucky.

Anyway, the point I wanted to make is that when you plan for this GW you should also factor in your transfer strategy for GW37, which is the next DGW. The only two teams with DGW this week who have DGW in GW 37 are City and Sunderland so it is likely you are going to keep your 3 City players for the rest of the season, so make sure you pick the 3 you want as you don't want to waste transfers.

In GW37 the teams with DGW are:

Villa who have Hull at home and City away
Hull who have Villa away and Man Utd away
City who have Everton away and Villa at home
Man Utd who have Sunderland at home and Hull at home
Sunderland who have Man Utd away and West Brom at home
West Brom who have Arsenal away and Sunderland away

We should remember that we are only going to have 3 FT between GW34 and GW37 so you need to plan your transfers wisely. For example unless you intend on taking lots of hits before GW38 you need to consider will your DGW37 players score more in GW 37 & GW38 than someone who does not have a DGW37?

For example will Long score more points against Villa, United and Everton than Sturridge against Palace and Newcastle (Just used these 2 as an example to highlight the point).

Anyway good luck with your planning and I am sure you are going to have just as many headaches as I am currently having planning my final hooray for the season and last attempt to push for a high finish.

When I am planning for this GW I am also planning in my exit strategy for some of the players as I don't want 3 Everton players in my team for GW35 and I also want 3 United players for GW37 (likely to be Mata, Rooney & Evra). So it is important to make sure I have the transfer funds available without having to sell 2 players to get in the player I want.

Its certainly a good idea to look beyond this GW. I already have plenty of DGWers for this week and I'm looking to just add one more with one of my 2FT's. This means my remaining FT can be used for a DGW37 player.

It also makes sense to consider selling Everton assets after this GW particularly defenders like Coleman or Baines.

59 points with Eriksen & Mannone to play. Looking good.

Planning for next week, but can't decide whether to get Aguero, because if I do it will need a 4-point hit. I've earmarked one FT for Sturridge > Lukaku, but how to use the other? Any advice on this team welcome:

    Mannone
    Coleman / Zabaleta / Bardsley
    Yaya / Hazard / Gerrard / Eriksen
    Suarez / Lukaku / Dzeko

Subs: Adrian / Dummett / Chester / Colback

Boring option is do Dummett > Ward, as I don't think Sunderland will do much. Any other compelling moves?

I don't think I see anything worth a hit. You've got 3 City so no point moving them around.

I don't know about that, but you can always count on some conservative moves at least!

I mean the guys you could get rid of, potentially, are Gerrard and Eriksen. Don't see anything there worth a peek really. I think Eriksen will do well with the fixtures he's got, and Gerrard keeps banging them in.

I had thought of getting rid of Gerrard as my second move until yesterday, but now I think he's a season keeper especially if I'm selling Sturridge (and won't be able to get him back).

I got Eriksen primarily for SUN, wba, FUL, as if he doesn't profit from that, he's no good really. Third time I've owned him this season and yet to see any attacking points from him, so here's hoping third time lucky!

I think Hazard may be on the chopping block if Chelsea get through in Europe, as I can see him being rotated more and more. If they don't, he'll probably flourish in the run-in, in which case I'll rethink.

              Yeah, sounds like good reasoning.

Hazard might be ditched for Mata either way if RVP remains out. GW36 and out looks a lot like United-time!

About 75 points.... but I see this as the defining week. He could take 30 points out of my lead over the dgw and it would be all on again.

If all you're concerned about is that mini league then I'd honestly just copy him. Make sure you are 100% sure he hasn't brought Kun in though.

Thanks. Given he's likely to captain Dzeko, I think it's probably safest to copy. Increased potential for a significant swing otherwise.

Are we all going to fall victim to the "glamour choice" of Aguero and let him fool us again? Or are we taking the cautious approach considering we've been burned by him in very similar circumstances in the past SO many times..?

My rival has kept Sergio for the last 2 or 3 weeks so I'm considering getting him in to cover..

It's not all clear cut though. Dzeko is far from assured his spot either, so there aren't many great options out there for good DGW strikers. MIght as well go glamorous 😉

If that's his "form striker", I think Pellegrini can't wait for Aguero to return. Dzeko couldn't hit the side of a barn from the penalty box.

Yeah agreed. Only reason he's scoring "so many" is that he's got one of the best midfields in the world feeding him chances. Aguero is twice the striker though.

Very true, the only question hanging over him is gametime when Aguero returns. 4-5-1 has worked an absolute treat since they changed their formation.

Shirley Pelli will play him vs Livp as that's the big one. Might be a "cagey", tight game?

Going to be kak if Dzeko cleans up vs Sun then if Kun get's a cameo perhaps.

City tend to lose to Sunderland though and smash the big boys right when they think they're fit to challenge. Says it all for the following gameweek too though if Kun starts against Liverpool.

I think Pellegrini might base his decisions on other factors than FPL. Unless he has Dzeko (c) for DGW34, I think Aguero might steal some of Dzeko's gametime.

If it were just for this GW I would get Dzeko over Aguero but I am also thinking ahead and asking myself do I want Dzeko to the end of the season or Aguero?

The thing that is making it hard is Aguero's injury record.

If I knew Aguero would stay fit then it is a no brainer.

So, what's the United defender of choice on here? I wouldn't mind having one from GW36 and out as there's not many good DGW defender options. Moyes seems to be a fan of Jones, Smalling and Evans are much cheaper though, but not sure if either are nailed. Rafael should be back soon from injury.

I'm thinking Rafael, if fit, is the best pick. He's obviously the best choice at RB and offers decent attacking threat. Thoughts?

Jones I think. I'll reassess Rafael after a few games. Think I'll get smalling in maybe too. Worth a punt, if he doesnt play every game how bad but could be a nice extra DGWer to have coming into GW37. Think him and Jones will be the main partnership.

am almost paralyzed in transfer strategy because of Kun's impending health.

want to go Silva and Yaya in the midfield with Zab at defence till the rest of the season.

but with Kun coming back, possibly Sturridge to Kun and and drop either Silva or Zab from plans.

surely others are facing this problem with Kun possibly offering big returns, but have been burned by him twice this season and the sting is still pretty fresh..

so I've planned a sequence of 3 hits and am wondering how worth it is..

    Mannone
    Baines - Ivan - Zaba - Ward - Chester
    Haz - Yaya - Gerrard - Nasri - Noone
    Suarez - Lukaku - Sturridge

    for GW34: Zaba + Gerrard + Sturridge > Coleman + Puncheon + Aguero (-4)
    for GW35: Coleman + Lukaku > Sagna + Rooney (-4)
    for GW36: Baines + Puncheon > Evans + Rambo (-4)

depends a bit on Rooney's injury (think it's possibly bs just to let him rest for Newcastle) and Sagna could be Kosc if he recovers but it leaves me this in the end which looks mighty fine:

I am going for Sturridge > Aguero. But, I have the exact funds to do so. Fiso and totalfpl becomes so important, or shall I avoid the headache and do it now?

From Pellegrini's words, it seems he will at least get 80-90 minutes both matches combined, and I would take the risk.

I sense the opposite. Liverpool has a leaky defense and Suarez.. Its gonna be a goals galore, 5-4 / 6-5?
Sunderland, otoh, would fight for their lives - could well be a 2-0 affair.

I badly need your advise to catch the leader in my mini-league. I'm chasing by 30 points and our teams are quite similar.

    Me:
    MANNONE
    COLEMAN-CAHILL-M OLSSON
    YAYA-Silva-Hazard-Eriksen
    Suarez-STURRIDGE-Lukaku

    Him:
HOWARD / HART (not sure which yet)
    BAINES-AZPI-FLANAGAN
    CARRICK-Silva-Hazard-Eriksen
    Suarez-DZEKO-Lukaku

He will probably cover me by doing Carrick to Yaya for next week or do Dzeko to Agüero. He has the funds to do either.

My subs are: Davis, Januzaj, Collins and John and I've got 2,2 ITB with 1 FT.

What the **** should I do?
    1) Collins => Kompany
    2) Sturridge => Agüero

Should I still try to play it safe or do I need to take a risk with the captaincy already for next week?

    Any help appreciated.
