PlayON Picks – Gameweek 28

Our pre-Gameweek analysis of the PlayON Player Price List arrives once again, as the minutes tick down until another deadline. As always, we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

PlayON have extended their deadline for submitting teams so you can now tinker with your starting XI right up until the first kick-off each week – this evening that’s 7.45pm, when three of the Gameweek’s ten matches get underway. Please also note that the weekend encounter between QPR and Spurs is not part of this PlayON Gameweek.

Goalkeeper – Brad Guzan
The Villa stopper has averaged three saves per appearance over the last seven weeks, despite his side conceding 15 goals during those fixtures. Guzan (6.8m) now plays host to a West Brom side that have failed to find the net in three of their last five away matches and with Tim Sherwood’s desperate for a first point, defensive returns looks feasible for the 11%-owned US international. Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet appears to have recovered from his early-season error-strewn performances. The Belgian’s new-found confidence has delivered five clean sheets in his previous seven appearances and, at a price of 7.5m, has been selected by 13% of PlayON teams for the visit of struggling Burnley.

Defenders – Craig Dawson
The West Brom defender has two goals so far this term and with two shots on target (worth 200 points each in PlayON) in the last three appearances, is still getting into threatening positions. The Baggies will be looking for a fourth clean sheet in a row away to neighbours Aston Villa and with doubts over a number of their strikers, Tony Pulis’ troops are likely to keep it tight at the back. Bearing in mind the hosts have scored just twice in ten matches, a goalless draw could well be on the cards here, making Dawson – available for 6.4m in PlayON and owned by 15% – a solid option for our four-man defences. Danny Rose is the essential defender pick for the midweek visit of Swansea. Priced at 6.9m, the left-back has served up two goals and an assist in his last seven matches and, with two more assists also arriving at White Hart Lane earlier in the season, he clearly prefers home comforts. Owned by 19%, his raids down the left could be key as Spurs look to recover from Sunday’s cup final loss at Wembley.

Midfielders – Nabil Bentaleb
The Algerian is yet to score this term but, with three shots on target in as many matches, his confidence appears to be growing. A first assist of the season in the recent North London derby victory also shows Bentaleb is getting forward more often and, having picked up 5,000 PlayON points in his last four appearances, also benefits from plenty of interception and tackle points that are a crucial part of the PlayON scoring matrix. At a price of 6.5m, Bentaleb (owned by 15%) looks excellent value for the home clash against Swansea. Philippe Coutinho (40% ownership) has scored in spectacular style in each of his last appearances and looks far more composed in front of goal in recent matches. The Brazilian also has five assists in his last ten and, at 11.0m, is a cheaper option to Raheem Sterling (12.2m) ahead of Burnley’s visit to Anfield. Given that the Clarets have failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 matches, Liverpool will be confident of delivering a ninth win in 11 attempts, with Coutinho likely to be the main architect.

Forwards – Papiss Cisse
The striker scored his eleventh of the season to secure all three points against Aston Villa in the Magpies’ first home win of the calendar year. Cisse has struck in six of his last eight starts and, having netted over a third of Newcastle’s league goals this campaign, his importance is obvious ahead of the visit of a Man United side with only one win in six on the road. Currently selected by just 4% of teams, the 8.7m-priced Cisse looks a decent in-form differential for the Gameweek. Although Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge have promising home fixtures on the cards, we cannot overlook Sergio Aguero (15.0m) for Man City’s Etihad encounter with basement-dwellers Leicester. The 58%-owned Argentine has delivered three goals and four assists in five appearances since returning from injury and with the Foxes conceding at least twice in nine of their last ten road trips, it could be a long night ahead for Nigel Pearson’s strugglers.

    Killian here from PlayON,

Rather than promoting any aspects of the site today, I would really welcome any feedback or issues people are having with the site at present. We are working very hard on delivering a snappy mobile site so people can pick teams and enter games from any device as this is currently not as good as it should be. We are also working on the Live Matchday being much faster so there is instantaneous updating of all events as they happen without any time lag.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions for improvement, I and the team would very much welcome them - just add them as replies below and I'll answer/address them all.

    Thanks

        Hi Hutton,

That issue you are experiencing is related to the structure of our website where it's playon.co/en/gameweekx and this address is being saved by your browser as a shortcut for when you next go to PlayON. When you on that link again it's trying to find gameweekx, which is now in results, rather than the latest gameweek.

If you type http://www.playon.co each time it will always bring you to the latest gameweek, but this issue is also being fixed with our new mobile site.

          Hi Killian,

If i were you I would take a look at Mondogoal - in my view their site is far superior. They offer a lot more varied prizes and also allow various different formations, the constant drudgery of four four f***ing two on your site could really do with a bit of variation to liven things up.

Also with some bets only being £2 it is much more attractive. Apart from the odd free one you run that only has one prize, the next step up £5.50 is quite steep as an opening bet.

Also, Mondogoal is much brighter, nice colours, a welcoming site whereas PLAYON looks a little bit like a dark dungeon, it's quite Goth. I know I have a bit of a grey pallour myself but even us Mysterons appreciate a bit of colour.

Take this advice on board and you can emulate Richmond and go from Goth to Boss!

          Hope the feedback was useful.

          Cheers,

          Captain Blacklist

            Hi Captain,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to write that post - I very much appreciate it.

Regarding formations, when we were starting PlayON our goal was to take a lot of the decisions out of fantasy football and keep it quite simple - hence no subs, no captains and no formations. We constantly question whether our assumptions are correct in this regard but our overarching view is that we would rather keep the site easy to use and understand and have less decisions for people to make in order to play the game. I understand that adding formations adds to the strategic aspect of the game and can enhance the experience but this is where we are at currently.

You point on colour and brightness is certainly valid and we have received this feedback from a number of people now so this is something we are addressing at present.

At PlayON we actually have games for free, £1, £2, £5 etc as we want to cater for all levels of player. You not being aware that these game entry amounts are present on the site is definitely something we need to address from a presentation perspective as they are in the main games table, they just need some scrolling down to find.

We genuinely appreciate the feedback - if you drop me a mail to killian@playon.co.uk I'll add a bonus £5 to your account so you can have a game on us as a thank you for the feedback.

            Cheers, Killian

Thanks Killian, have emailed you my details so will invest that £5 wisely! Would you recommend a weekly or a daily game as my best chance of returns? I favour the latter as can't imagine there will be many involved tonight so a bigger chance of winning

I've added £5.50 to your account so you can have a free game tonight - I'd recommend the Weekly game as the pots are bigger, but less people play the Daily games at present so maybe a better chance of winning there. Best of luck and thanks again for the feedback

      Hi Killian,

My biggest issue with the site is that I cannot see what the live scores are. Eg, I would like to be able to check out what my score vs FFS score is as the game is progressing. Not sure if this is me not understanding the site or just something that you guys are working on, but I do get that it complicates a lot of things.

What I do really like is the one-vs-one options to play against "celebs". Enjoyed pitting my teams against FFS, Robbie Fowler, Mr Fenley etc.

I also get the formation issue, but I think that is one of the games characteristics that I enjoy - its comparing apples with apples - everyone has the same formation to adhere to and this test your knowledge/luck to adapt and try different combinations to beat your opponents. 🙂

I would start Wolly. Nailed and at home to a goal shy Everton.

Would also start Walters. At home to a leaky Everton, plus SOT don't give much away, especially at home.

Kos vs Clichy for me. Personally I'd play Terry over him.

Most people think it is 50/50 Giroud could be an excellent differential

        9 years, 2 months ago

If Giroud scores 1 and gets booked and no baps, which his baseline, and Austin blanks twice, you'll only lose 1 point - so my conclusion is , there's more upside to Austin

        1. Adam West - Team Serbia for…
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 2 months ago

He has only played in a handful of games this season so to call that baseline is a bit misleading . Giroud has picked up baps when he scored one and he is more than capable of scoring 2 + .

I'm sting with Giroud too.But I am considering getting Austin. It's either Giroud to Austin or Hutton to Rose or save FT for me. It's worth noticing that Austin has scored a goal vs Arsenal, Chelsea and City so fixtures may not be that much of a problem for him.

Does selling price (once lower than paid price) drop like it does for increases?

      Aguero
      Eriksen
      Austin

Reasoning behind Kane is DGW but also worry that everyone else is
Eriksen is definitely more differential, but more likely to play less imo
Aguero nailed on for 90, as no weekend game, and Leicester are poo
Austin nailed on for both and at home and on pens, but qpr are pish

      Kane %50
      Aguero %30
      Eriksen %20
      Austin %10

Yes indeed. Eriksen's usual 3 game barren run is ending this week, so here comes a golden period! Armband on him, just like you.

Yep. I think if he doesn't start tonight he'll definitely drop. Won't rise again for Chelsea, and then we get for Burnley.

Can't see it. Reckon he plays tonight and flag is removed and his ownership starts trending upwards shortly after.

Which of these is the better wild card teams (considering doing so after tonight's deadline). Have exact money for both.

    Krul Myhill
Wollschied Clyne Terry Van Aanholt Bellerin
    Silva Coutinho Punch Silva Hazard
    Aguero Kane Zamora

    Krul Myhill
Wollshchied Toby A Terry Naughton Bellerin
    Silva Sterling Punch Silva Hazard
    Aguero Kane Zamora

Thinking of going 3-5-2 for the rest of the season. Don't like the look of future double gameweeks.

      Answer is the second one.

Hi FFS. Please help bring me to my senses. I want both Costa and Siggy by GW 30, in time for trips to Hull and Villa respectively, and to afford them I need to downgrade my 5th midfielder to 4.6 or below. But wait, Matty Phillips is in that category and has the DGW. It's madness to take a hit when I could play Moses instead, right? Should I delay Siggy an extra week?

Would you play Puncheon in front of:
    Bellerin Clyne Bertrand or Dawson?

If yes, which one to bench?

I think Austin will score vs Arse, so Bellerin.

Everton have failed to score in three of their last four and given up 2 goals in each of the last two. I have little confidence in either side of the pitch for them, but slightly more in their forwards. So play Moses.
