Rooney’s Extended Layoff Boosts The Hernandez Option

Alex Ferguson has brought us the first dose of significant injury news of the day, suggesting that Wayne Rooney’s ankle injury will keep him sidelined for longer than the expected three week period.

The United boss revealed in today’s press conference that the striker was now likely to miss the derby clash with City on November 10. He offered a pretty vague prognosis, stating that Rooney is simply “injured and resting” ahead of the weekend meeting with Spurs but made it clear that he “could” be missing for a longer period than the intial three-week assessment. When asked on the three week absence Ferguson replied “I think it may be longer.”

This latest information is of course of interest as it boosts the Fantasy potential of Javier Hernandez. The Mexican looks nailed on for starts in Rooney’s absence given his current form and would now seem set to earn starts against Spurs, Wolves and City and possibly Aston Villa three days later. A run of four Gameweeks would certainly increase his appeal as a mid-price option up front given that he can be recruited for just 7.0 in the Fantasy Premier League Game.

With many Fantasy Managers facing up to shifting the injured Carlos Tevez from their squads, it seems that Hernandez suddenly offers improved prospects as a cheap alternative.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    For this GW I just might start Enrique instead of Elmo. Sunderland not doing so good away so slightly higher chance of a CS from Newcastle? Also, Enrique “due” an assist or BP? Finally, would save me from cheering on Carroll to score against Elmo. Thoughts?

      I have a very similar midfield to yours, and am playing Adam and Carroll...with VDV as my "first sub". I feel Adam will do well, and hopefully Carroll will get some decent points too.

      The only thing I could do is VDV instead of Malouda....but I am going to play Adam and Carroll regardless 🙂

      No need for Rio, your DEF is expensive enough with Cashley in there. Maybe downgrade Rio to Elmuhmm and do Bale to Fabs if you can afford it? That would give you a good front 8.

      I'd definitely play Elmo just for his attacking threat, I can see Blackpool scoring so probably bench Jara... Then it's just whether you think Sunderland away or Villa at home are more likely to score I guess... Simpson, but not too much in it..

    Well I have just gone for Malouda OUT Fabregas IN and Tevez OUT Hernandez IN for 4 points. It really was a case of being bored having Malouda, wanting a whack of money in the bank to upgrade Little Pea for RVP/Tevez whatever in due course, don't think Malouda will tear it up in the next two weeks, and if so, so be it, I want some fun!

      Tempted to go Mignolet but would rather have Elmo in my team.
      Also, Djourou needs to go, probably wont play.
      I like your front 8 though.
      Maybe consider something like Mignolet and Djourou > Elmo and decent keeper (eg foster or jussi)

    My opponent has taken a 8 point hit from what I can tell, I've taken a 4 pointer. I'll take that kind of advantage anyday. Teams are fairly different without knowing transfers. Probably exactly the same after 🙂
