The Numbers Game – Goals Imminent?

With a nod to community member, “In-Tommy-We-Trust’s” excellent “Explosion Imminent” tables in our members area, this latest article focuses on those players who, over the last four Gameweeks, have been providing a significant goal threat without reward.

We take a look at the top performing individuals who have fired in the most shots without scoring, in an attempt to identify those perhaps most likely to provide imminent goal returns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is it worth a 4pt hit to replace Luiz? The alternative is playing either Mariappa or Clyne.

Would likely get Zabaleta or Enrique as the replacement..

      tricky one
how long is he out for? If for a while, then yeah...i reckon get Zab for time being (Enrique in 2 weeks)

The 'Never take a 4pt him for a defender' rule has always worked quite well for me, neither of those 2 replacements will outscore Mariappa this week with a -4.

my problem exactly... usually it's a no, but I'm also considering because I'd have to play Martin (TOT) and Demel (ful)... the latter in particular really stinks.

I'm probably still not gonna do it, in fairness what are the chances of Zab, Enrique or Evra beating our schmucks by more than 4 points?

I wouldn't Look at the West Ham defenders last week - loads brought them in for a hit and they didn't even manage anything over 2 weeks.

Granted, City are much better defensively, but your banking on a clean sheet just to break even.

Going to wildcard after the deadline tonight, so looking for a 1 week punt without taking a points hit:

    i) If Dzeko is benched, I’ve got 8.1m to spend on a forward. Best option Fletcher?
ii) If Dzeko starts, then have 5.2m to spend on a defender. Best option Cameron? (have Bego)
iii) Ignore line ups and do Michu -> Felliani (losing 0.2m on Michu)

    Thanks

Any thoughts on Benteke this week? Am mulling over him. FPLstrategist have them in their picks for their week but I want to see if he gets in the scoutpicks later today before making a transfer.

    Could do well against Newcastle...thoughts?

Newcastle have been dire recently. The question is which Villa will turn up. Benteke seems to have done reasonably well regardless, but you'd have to think Villa need a good performance for him to get chances, especially after recent results.

So, no Coleman means Neville could play at RB, possibly meaning Fellaini plays deeper? If Mirallas is fit, it's looking more likely.

The news on Luiz is also good. The only question is: Do I do Luiz > Zab and Pie > Fellaini now or wait until we get team news and possibly punt on Kolarov? I'm WC after the deadline anyway.

There's no real point saying that a team is fixture proof though because you don't pick players simply based on the team that they play for. You can say RVP is fixture proof because no matter who the opponent is, he's likely to do something.

Suarez is much better from the FPL POV IMO (accroymns gone wild).

Suarez will still consistently perform. Sturridge will go missing in games. I have both of them just because I think that Sturridge is the best value player at his price. I wouldn't have brought him in to the expense of Suarez.

Jonny Evans, currently he's in my wc team, but apparently we have no United presser today so no idea if he's fit or not. So do I go

    a) Keep and hope for the best
    b) Ship for Rafael and maybe look at a Pool defender in 2 weeks
    c) Get a Pool defender now, in the hope of the DGW and in spite of the next 2 and just hope for the best, but save myself a -4 later down the track?

      b) if you can afford the FT.

it won't be for free, am on wc atm so i can get Rafa now no problem, but if DGW goes ahead it will likely cost me -4 to get GJ in then.

I meant if you can afford the FT for swapping to GJ for the DGW. That complicates matters if you can't.

well my plan was to save the Ft next GW then I could get Sturridge and someone else in, that someone is now likely to be Gerrard, so that is my 2 FTs gone, thus if I wanted a defender for DGW (and it might be worth it for 2 home games) I'd have to go -4

You're judgement is being clouded by past seasons. Don't let it be. Nani will be sold at the end of the season and his game time will be limited thus, with Fergie preferring to play the likes of Kagawi and Welbeck 'out wide' instead.

        Get rid of Nani IMO

Who's gonna score more over the next two weeks?

    A) Fellaini (WBA,AVL)
    B) Fletcher (SWA,rdg)

I think Fletcher wins it, not sure though...

Yes, if you don't mind the slight rotation risk. Tottenham are quietly becoming one of the league's best defences.

Rafael has played nearly all games he's been available, only missing out when injured, so still a rotation risk now JOnes/Smalling are back, neither of which are natural RB's?

Can decide whether to keep Gibbs, or swap for Rafa. Any thoughts?
