HomeCrowd Tweaks

Tonight we’ve introduced a few changes to the HomeCrowd comments system – the main tweak being the removal of the downvote mechanism to put more emphasis on upvoting in order to ensure comments remain useful, entertaining and friendly.

We’ve taken this decision after gathering feedback from the community and undertaking lengthy discussion behind the scenes. We want to ensure there remains a strong focus on positive interaction between community members and to reduce any misuse of the voting system. It appeared that there was clear confusion on how the downvote should be used and the mechanic had also become secondary as an aid to moderation.

Many of the major social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook only have positive feedback options, such as ‘like’ and ‘favourite’ and we’ve decided to follow their lead. As before, please be sure to upvote any comment that you find useful and that you feel benefits the community.

In order to allow users to flag up any comments that they feel warrant moderator attention, we’ve also made a slight change by renaming the “report” button to “flag”. Please use the flag button if you feel a comment post is disruptive or abusive and a moderator will take a look and act on it if required.

Finally, we have removed the publicly displayed reputation level badges. Again, these caused some confusion and while we’ve kept them and the hidden reputation system behind them, the badges can now only be seen within a poster’s profile.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback during the first few weeks of HomeCrowd, it has been invaluable to helping us evolve it. Once the season begins and traffic levels settle, we will hopefully have the opportunity to start adding new features.

      P. Aguero/Giroud/JRod

Aguero for the first three fixtures with an upgrade to RVP lined up. If you don't have Aguero, the upgrade to RVP is too much to do without point hit or more likely a WC. Giroud is a punt on pre season form and I personally like him. JRod is a fixture man with a decent back end to the previous season

rvp not obvious until gw4 with so many other options.

is lukaku really going to play anywhere near 180 mins in gw1

is anelka really that promising....cheap? yes; cheap for a reason? probably.

personally i think aguero / benteke / lukaku as a punt (or two chelsea mids and jrod/berba/etc)

I'm looking for a refund on my Benteke-wagon ticket. Apart from Liverpool who he seemed to enjoy punishing, he only scored once against a top 10 side last season.

Can anyone persuade me to hang on to my ticket? I'd swap him for Giroud and upgrade Nolan to Mirallas with the change.

I'm waiting on this Dzeko 'main striker' business. If Man City's 'main striker' is 7.5m then he can't be ignored. If Bale goes then RVP is a possibility. That sucks up a lot of budget and I think I many will not have a lot of room for Benteke. I'm starting to back track on Benteke myself and going with three chelsea and leave it at that for the double.

Chelsea have good defensive record under Mourinho and I believe it's still yet to be broken - but in FPL wise, would you pick a nailed on, long term investment player, i.e. Cole, or a punt in Ivanovic/Terry/Luiz for the double due to their potential attacking returns?

Time for the daily FFS League post 😉

Want to have a chance of joining a competitive league then click on the link. The idea is to have 5 classic leagues for FFS posters to test their skills against other FFS posters. The league spots will be determined by your previous best overall rank in FPL. To have a chance to join fill out the submission form embedded in the link.

    http://allthingsfpl.wordpress.com/2013/06/28/atfpl-leagues-for-ffs-posters/

The cut off Overall Rank as of this post currently stands at 17036. (This is 30 posters per league)

Don't worry if your rank isn't high enough to enter the 5 classic leagues as you can still enter the catch all league where everyone who has said yes to the catch all league in their response will be offered entry.

The closing date is the end of the 1st of August so hurry up if you want to be involved. So far 209 posters are playing.

    Cheers 🙂

    What makes British Players special?

So it looks like Gareth Bale is going for a world record fee. Why does the rest of the world also think the premier league is the best? Why do they love british players?

We can tackle. We have a great mentality. We have british fighting spirit. We do not dive. We do not roll around.

In europe they spend time with small touches and other things that are all called technique. But does it work that well? They also make small passes and cannot win in the air. It happens in spain. Same with germany. Even italy do it, with extra cheating. British clubs have dominated the champions league. If it was not for Barcalona and especially lionel messi we would have won more.

Clubs from south america are different and have a different football culture. They are like us. They have natural talent with things like dribbling. But still roll around and cannot tackle.

Many young players around the world say they want to play like steven gerrard frank lampard wayne rooney michael owen ryan giggs paul scholes jamie carragher the list goes on. You don't hear anyone say they want to play like isco or negredo.

I would say it's as much about the Premier League's superior/aggressive marketing efforts around the world combined with our colonial heritage that made English so many kids' second language around the globe.

But maybe I'm just cynical 😉

We have great marketing because we are a great league.

We are a superpower so the world speaks english, not our fault. It is also the easiest language to learn. When I coached abroad their english was bad but I couldn't even say their names right. They all sounded the same with the same letters.

I'm not making a moral judgment about the language thing, it is what it is. I'm just saying that's got as much to do with kids around the world identifying with English football as the quality of our play has.

I liked the bit that says:

"If it was not for Barcalona and especially lionel messi we would have won more."

Maybe if the FA buy UEFA and allow only "English" teams (mostly owned by foreigners and with squads full of mostly foreign players anyway), maybe we'd do better?

England has a much bigger tv deal than most of Europe so has the most money.

Unfortunately the players developed by clubs in England are mostly inferior technically due to the deficiencies within the coaching system, e.g. far too few coaches, outdated style of coaching, etc..

This is something I might have downvoted.....A really poor post in my opinion!

Just look at the generalization you are making, and what awful comparisons especially the last line, How the f**k do you have the audacity to say something like that!!!!

"Many young players around the world say they want to play like steven gerrard frank lampard wayne rooney michael owen ryan giggs paul scholes jamie carragher the list goes on. You don't hear anyone say they want to play like isco or negredo."

You compare some of the best players in the premier league, to such young stars in Spain!!! England for that matter, has such few young stars anyway! Who says I wanna play like Welbeck when I grow up!!

Spanish Stars like Iniesta, Pique, Casillas, Xavi, Villa!!!! Now who doesn't wanna play like them!!!!

I don't even know why the f**k I even replied to this post. Complete waste of time!

Chelsea may have the DGW but then they play Man U straight after, so i suppose i could swap out a defender for a chelsea defender for the first gameweek. Dzeko should get a lot more gametime this year: http://fr.soccerway.com/news/2013/July/30/pellegrini-dzeko-is-my-main-striker/n235977/

Fellaini has stated several times that his preferred position is DM. Last season he was played out of position in the hole and did very well for goals, but he doesn't want to play there and I don't think Martinez will force him to do it. Hence, most people expect Fellaini to be a fantasy non-entity this season.

As people here show statistic that claim clean sheets are more often at the first weeks of the premier league, is it wise to go with the 5 team rotation and invest elsewhere (to cover for blank week 3). something like this for the beginning and then see as the season goes?

    Speroni / Boruc
    Collins / Turner / Yanga-Mbiwa / Clyne / Chester
    Silva / Lampard / Coutinho / Hazard / Walcott
Lukaku / Dzeko (lambert) / Giroud

Why are people so sure Lukaku is only going to start one game? He's a young kid dying to prove himself and his only competition is Ba and Torres, if he makes an impact in the first game he's surely going to be given the nod in the second as well. Obviously over the season he's going to be rotated no matter what happens but I just don't get the logic that he'll be sat on the bench for the second game of the season regardless of what happens in the first.

I'd be surprised if he picks Lukaku over Torres (experience) for the United game in GW2...and equally surprised if he put Torres in cold for that game....but over the season i can see him easily becoming the main striker for Chelsea, and sooner rather than later.

he scored 4 goals vs united didnt he?

i think torres doesnt have the power to challenge defenders unlike lukaku

imo if chelsea dont sign another striker lukaku will start the majority of the majority of the matches

Yes i'm sure he will....Mourinho has made plenty of noises pre season about "saving" some of the more experienced players for the bigger games...specifically Terry and Lampard...so i think it's safe to say the same would apply for Torres. If that's true then Torres won't play the first game because he's on the way back from S America...so he either plays him cold against Man Utd in GW2 or gives him a run out for the second of the DGW....So for me it would seem Lukaku/Hull Torres/Villa (60 mins) Torres/Man U...

Both have good records against United so things could change then, but for both games in GW1 I think Lukaku, if he starts well, has to be the favourite.

To be fair, you can't really go for more than one rotation risk like this in your first 11 else you could have some nightmare weeks, but he has a bigger upside for his price than the rest.

Supposed to be a bit of bounce in the pitch. Probably more suitable for Panesar than Swan.

People putting up RMTs with players who are not even first choice (Lukaku, Dzeko, et al) is just pointless. Someone has to tell 'em. As usual, it falls to me.

First Round would be to name me the 3 most nailed on Chelsea players... I have Cech and Cole, but the 3rd player is proving hard, I would say Ivanovic for some reason...

I have had a premonition that he will suffer a rare and unlikely injury on the way to the first match of the season involving an Airedale Terrier, a sheet of A4 paper and a gentleman sporting an attractively coiffured moustache. Might be a gamble but have a strange feeling it might just happen!

I think it is safe to say that he will probably start and be supported by one 3 of Aguero - Navas - Jovetic - Negredo. One of these 4 will miss out. Dzeko on form and no friendly to play the week before either. Aguero struggling a bit for fitness too as did not travel for their current tour

I think Pellegrini is getting at they are all "main" strikers

I suppose if they are all going to be rotated then you might as well get the cheapest one, or none?

But we don't pick the team - BFS does. He is the reason Gary O'Neil is out on loan, so wait and see. Gary got a lot of minutes towards the end of last Season ...
