The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Monday

On a night that saw Jonjo Shelvey play a part in all four goals, we witnessed Michu notch his first of the season, while Daniel Sturridge maintained his relentless scoring streak with a fourth goal in four games. With Victor Moses impressing on debut and injury concerns surrounding Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez, Monday’s encounter offered plenty for Fantasy managers to consider.

The Game Changer

Michu’s sweetly struck half volley from Shelvey’s smart knockdown issued a timely reminder of his talents. Up until tonight, Michu was amongst an array of several heavy hitting midfielders who have failed to live up to their pre-season billing. While Philippe Coutinho continued to toil without returns for Liverpool before being subbed with a shoulder injury, tonight’s strike from Michu promoted him in our thinking.

With Pablo Hernandez potentially sidelined with a hamstring problem, Michu stands out as Swansea’s key attacking asset as they embark on a run of friendly league fixtures in the weeks ahead. Having dropped to 8.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after a run of sales, Michu may just be set to replicate the kind of form that saw him strike 18 goals from midfield in his debut season.

The Underused

A cult hero on these pages, Victor Moses announced himself to his new supporters with an encouraging display and a debut goal. Having suffered limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Moses is set to be given the freedom of the Liverpool left flank by Brendan Rodgers and his pace, power and trickery troubled the Swans all evening. With an eye for goal and the likes of Sturridge and Luis Suarez to convert his supply, Moses is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers but already looks good value at 6.2 in the FPL.

The Selection Poser

There were two notable absentees from the evening’s teamsheets as both Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez missed out. Liverpool’s Danish defender picked up a knock in training on Sunday which saw him sidelined – he is expected to return to the fold for the home clash with Southampton, however. That would signal a shake-up in the Liverpool back four which currently has Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamado Sakho and Andre Wisdom battling for two starting berths.

Hernandez’s situation is less certain. Michael Laudrup confirmed a hamstring injury prior to the game and stated that the Spanish winger could be out “for a week or two”. Hernandez had enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, attracting sizeable investment which had led to a FPL price hike to 6.2. Seemingly a major doubt for the trip to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if his owners hold firm ahead of Swansea’s favourable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

1.1m difference. Ozil has CL too and has to get a share of the attacking pool that is Walcott, Cazorla, Giroud, ARteta, Ramsey, Wilshere etc whereas Swans fixture's ain't too bad and Michu is really the only fish in the Swan Sea. (Brushes tumbleweed aside) 😉

Could go cout to hba then lambert to giroud

I got Michu in for Silva (for a hit last week) as Michu's fixtures over the next 6 weeks are fantastic. I can see the appeal in HBA (just ditched Coutinho for him).

If i were to move Lambert it would be for Sturridge or Giroud (dont like Giroud this week vs Stoke think Shawcross and Huth may slow him down)

From gw6 my plan was RVP to Suarez freeing up 3.1 to upgrade elsewhere.

Have to downgrade cout to 7.7 or less to get giroud. 7.4 or less allows for Sturridge but with my Suarez plan I don't want 2xliv in attack

If you wanna swap one of your existing top 3 mids for Eriksen then sell Migs for additional cash should do it.

Otherwise you are upgrading from one of your two budget mids and you will probably need to downgrade RVP to Rooney or Suarez, or Giroud/Benteke to Lambert/Bony to do it.

If he doesn't improve his performances he won't stay nailed-on too long if Moses improves his good performancs game-on-game. Rogers won't think twice about dropping him if he thinks Moses can do a job until Coutinho improves.

Very good. Maybe downgrade Koscielny and Dawson to the likes of Chester, Murner, Whittaker, SHaw and upgrade Robbie.

Drop Oscar or Paulinho...or keep both?

OSCAR & Che Mid Depth (only fix is Hazard & Ramires -- 2 spots for 7 player rotation: Oscar,Lamps,Mata,Willian,Schurle,De Bruyne,Mikel)

PAULINHO --might get reduced looks for asissts & goals, holding him + on Defensive midfield w/Eriksen & Lamela; or by same token, Paulinho might even get + looks w/ more atention paid to Soldado,Eriksen,Lamela...

Suggestion drop Oscar or Paulinho for: (have $.5 in bank)
1 Keep Oscar till next week x Ful, see how Che mids rotate and have 2FT
2 Oscar for HBA FT(save $1.2 and NOT risk HBA rising .3 this week to 7.4)
3 Oscar for Ramsey FT (save 1.8)
4 Oscar for Eriksen FT (save .6)
    5 Paulinho for HBA ft
6 Paulinho for Ramsey ft (save 1.2)
    7 Keep Paulinho also

    Migs (Davis)
    Ivan - Merts - Zab - Coleman - (Whitaker)
    PHernandes - Paulinho - Oscar - Barkley - (Lucas)
    Giroud - Benteke - RVP

Walker, Ivanovic, Terry, or Koscielny to field last spot?

    Migs - Boruc
    Coleman - Toure - ??? - Chester - Ward

Btw, im leaning to the first two because of attacking threat but people seem preferred CB.

Jose loves Terry. He only played 900 ish minutes last season due to injuries. Will have to see how Jose lines them up for CL fixtures to get an assurance that Terry will be first choice CB in the league (I think he will be)

Ahh.. Too bad that I can't wait. Pretty sure that Murner will drop 0.1m in the next hour. It's between Terry and Walker now. Terry at home to Fulham seems a bit better, but rotation risk.

Regarding the challenge on Coutinho, Rodgers said: "I haven't seen the tackle. He's very sore in the changing room, and we're hoping it will only be bruising."

Don't see how you interpret that to be a suggestion of anything.

    Pre-price-change advice please guys!

    Coutinho dropping tonight (i think).

Cout -> Michu FT seems like a no-brainer for me this week. But shall i do it now, that's the question?

    My front 8:

    Cout - Wally - Lamps - Barfa - Whitts
    Soldado - Benteke - Giroud

Cos Martinez will be pretty happy with their win over Chelsea and might go with same side again. It's a fairly risky but probably very rewarding ploy. I'm going Van Persie to Benteke. SIck of seeing that 14m dojg feck all 🙁
