The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Monday

On a night that saw Jonjo Shelvey play a part in all four goals, we witnessed Michu notch his first of the season, while Daniel Sturridge maintained his relentless scoring streak with a fourth goal in four games. With Victor Moses impressing on debut and injury concerns surrounding Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez, Monday’s encounter offered plenty for Fantasy managers to consider.

The Game Changer

Michu’s sweetly struck half volley from Shelvey’s smart knockdown issued a timely reminder of his talents. Up until tonight, Michu was amongst an array of several heavy hitting midfielders who have failed to live up to their pre-season billing. While Philippe Coutinho continued to toil without returns for Liverpool before being subbed with a shoulder injury, tonight’s strike from Michu promoted him in our thinking.

With Pablo Hernandez potentially sidelined with a hamstring problem, Michu stands out as Swansea’s key attacking asset as they embark on a run of friendly league fixtures in the weeks ahead. Having dropped to 8.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after a run of sales, Michu may just be set to replicate the kind of form that saw him strike 18 goals from midfield in his debut season.

The Underused

A cult hero on these pages, Victor Moses announced himself to his new supporters with an encouraging display and a debut goal. Having suffered limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Moses is set to be given the freedom of the Liverpool left flank by Brendan Rodgers and his pace, power and trickery troubled the Swans all evening. With an eye for goal and the likes of Sturridge and Luis Suarez to convert his supply, Moses is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers but already looks good value at 6.2 in the FPL.

The Selection Poser

There were two notable absentees from the evening’s teamsheets as both Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez missed out. Liverpool’s Danish defender picked up a knock in training on Sunday which saw him sidelined – he is expected to return to the fold for the home clash with Southampton, however. That would signal a shake-up in the Liverpool back four which currently has Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamado Sakho and Andre Wisdom battling for two starting berths.

Hernandez’s situation is less certain. Michael Laudrup confirmed a hamstring injury prior to the game and stated that the Spanish winger could be out “for a week or two”. Hernandez had enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, attracting sizeable investment which had led to a FPL price hike to 6.2. Seemingly a major doubt for the trip to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if his owners hold firm ahead of Swansea’s favourable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ramsey's already bagged 5 goals this season (?), I don't think Saturday was just a flash in the pan.

      Ramsey for me.

    Coutinho out?

Most people want to do Coutinho to Michu right away...things to consider:
    • Michu is 8.9 so if Countinho drops, you lose .1 team value not .1 from the bank if Michu was 9
    • There are Champions league and Europa this week...other injuries could happen
    • Swans play on Thursday so wait and see lineups/injury concerns
    • both Coutinho and Michu have great upcoming fixtures
    • Wait to Coutinho injury news, he fell on his shoulder and unless its dislocated, he should be OK
    • knowing how this game works, Coutinho could very well score next GW as the ultimate troll

In summary, keep calm....and wait. I think it was evident how Liverpool immediately missed Coutinho once he left. Despite his lack of FPL points, he is quality. I'm not saying its a bad decision to switch for Michu, but definitely be rational....I know some are saying Michu is tough he won't get injured, but still just. What do you guys think? Are there better midfielders to bring in besides Michu?

I think a lot of people are after Michu based on last year... I personally don't think he's worth it at 8.9, he'll score points but not sure he'll be Swansea's one and only like last season. I can see Hernandez, Bony, de Guzman, Routledge sharing the points around a lot more this season. But... their fixtures are tasty!

No, I'm basing my transfer on the fact that I've waited 4 GWs for a 9 mil player to do more than run around and pick up a yellow.

Coutinho is wasting money when there are obviously more effective options. I'm not saying pick Michu, but you can't say people are picking him based on last year and then stick by Coutinho when he's done nothing this year.

Had a really indifferent season already with two scores of 70+ and two scores of 40-. Luckily this GW has brought me back on track, although I'm still a little behind where I want to be.

Thoughts on this GW's team, folks?

    Westwood
    Nastasic, Murner, Collins
    Walcott, Lamela, Ben Arfa, Ramsey
    RVP, Benteke, Giroud

    Subs: Boruc, Barkley, Ferdinand, Chester

Not sure how to address my triple Arsenal attack yet. Too much of a muchness but they're worth keeping for STO (H) and then I can make a better decision.

    Mirallas Vs West Ham

Mirallas likes his long shots and they seem to be his main source of goal threat.

West Ham on the other hand defend deep and concede few shots inside the box, but lots from outside the box, seemingly suiting Mirallas' style. Jussi however is very good at stopping these shots and this results in West Ham conceding very few goals.

The physicality of West Ham's style is also likely to reduce Mirallas' impact due to his somewhat flimsy frame. With Everton struggling for goals, and a match at the Ethihad GW7, is he worth keeping? He certainly showed promise in his last match, but if you have nothing else to do, ditching Mirallas is unlikely to mean you miss out on a large haul away at the Hammers.

    The choice is yours.

True, but when it gets to the point when you celebrate him playing a full match, you know something's up. Playing 90 every game should really be a minimum requirement for a player in your team.

True and it was very disappointing to see him dragged in each fixture prior to this week.
Had Coutinho in as well and felt I could achieve more buy ditching him first before KM. Onwards and upwards from this point I hope

I'm suspecting that Cole and Luiz will play almost all games, but that the other spots will rotate between Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta and Bertrand (with playing minutes in that order from most to least). It makes Luiz seem like a bargain, since he's sure to nab a few goals too.

Sorry for repost, trying to make move b4 tonite's 2:40am price rises
Oscar or paulinho for either Eriksen or HBA

OSCAR & Che Mid Depth (only fix is Hazard & Ramires -- 2 spots for 7 player rotation: Oscar,Lamps,Mata,Willian,Schurle,De Bruyne,Mikel)

PAULINHO --might get reduced looks for asists & goals w/Eriksen & Lamela attaking mids; or by same token, Paulinho might even get + looks w/ more atention paid to Soldado,Eriksen,Lamela...

Suggestion drop Oscar or Paulinho for either Eriksen or HBA? (have $.5 in bank)
1 Keep Oscar till next week x Ful, see how Che mids rotate and have 2FT
    2 Keep Paulinho also
3 Oscar for HBA FT(save $1.2 and NOT risk HBA rising .3 this week to 7.4)
4 Oscar for Ramsey FT (save 1.8)
5 Oscar for Eriksen FT (save .6)65 Paulinho for HBA ft
6 Paulinho for Ramsey ft (save 1.2)

    Migs (Davis)
    Ivan - Merts - Zab - Coleman - (Whitaker)
    PHernandes - Paulinho - Oscar - Barkley - (Lucas)

Choosing one of Walker, Terry, Ivanovic, and Koscielny to replace Turner.

    Coleman - Toure - Chester - Ward - "Turner"

I think I will go Walker because of form, fixtures, and being nailed on factor.

Kos is not picked as I'm not sure if Mert will be back yet. Arsenal is not much solid without him.
Terry is actually my favorite, but we still don't know how he will be rotated with CL games.
Ivan is most attacking threat. But I think I need that 0.5m for spending elsewhere.

Anything about Walker and Spurs that I should know. Umm.. They will play on Thursday, but I believe it will be B team to play.

hi all, just looking for peoples thoughts on my team. if i was to make any transfers it would mean a hit. not so sure about having 6 liverpool and arsenal players in my team, even if their fixtures are quality. also the lack of chelski i dont like, and at the moment id quite like to try get ferdinand in somehow, after city game.

    migs

    coleman/yanga-mbwia/mertsacker

    eriksen/yaya/ramsey/benarfa

    sturridge/giroud(c??)/rvp

    Early Captain options?

First GW i have been unsure about who to captain. Benteke has it atm, Walcott a chance to get it.

    Who are you considering?

It's with Benteke now, but Walcott and (if confirm fit) Giroud might take it on Saturday.

Sturridge is also in the consideration if Coutinho returns in time.

but that implies loosing HBA; i think hba will rise another .1 to $7.4
dont hav the extra cash for pablo to HBA

and for -4 do paulinho for hba also
