FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament 2013

Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. For anyone looking for further information on how the tournament works, click here for extra details.

Over the past few days, the tournament has become a popular topic on our site as the recruitment drive gets underway. As a result, we have created this article to keep discussion on the tournament to one particular place – we’ll ensure the article is kept featured at the top of the homepage, thus making it easier to find for those already involved or looking to do so.

Good luck to all those taking part.

Provisional Spanish team ready. Its pretty strong if I say so myself.

Out of respect to the USA were playing 2-3-1 this week. Although the defenders will be expected to provide the width.

      Take your pick

      A) everyone deep in discussion in their own private dressing rooms
      B) incredibly delighted with the hospitality from tahiti. especially the strip joints.
      C) peeing in their pants at the prospect of facing the mighty tahitians

In fairness, it was always going to slow down as FPL returned. The whole chatter and nonsense was because of recruitment over the long international break 🙂

I had a passing thought last night in the bus on the way home...

How funny would it be if Giggs Boson was actually a Russian secret agent, sent to infiltrate Team Netherlands... 😀

    K-GB...? 😉

His real purpose being that of sabotage... don't worry I'll be watching what happens in later rounds if these teams meet...

        Oh.

        Oh my.

If the players of Tahiti are half as creative as those lyrics, they may all kick the ball and chase it around in a pack like a band of 5 year olds just learning to play.

We had not realized we were playing children.

Will have to go over to the Islamic Federation of Beach Soccer tent to "discuss" this over the shisha with Marco Vetavio. The challenge of the circumstance has changed.

The sun has risen. Its surprisingly windy.
The cool mountain air brushes against the blue mane like hair of the Samurai. His sword firmly clutched. He can feel it , his enemies are close by. Like ravens they wait for the Emperor for the Emperor to make a mistake. But what they dont realise is that even above them a mighty blue lion is waiting for them to make a mistake.

The press has assembled at Budokan hall once again. It should be noted that a number of the members of the press are currently picking golden glitter and confetti out of their hair. As we look towards the door, we see that Gareth Barry’s job for the night is to glitterbomb the audience from the balcony overhead. The press has not yet endeared themselves to this, as glitter has lived up to its reputation as the herpes of the craft world. What is truly impressive is how much glitter Mr. Barry seems to have up there.

Before the press has fully brought to fruition their plan to climb up to the balcony and remove Gareth Barry from his perch, out comes the man who once said he would knock United right off the same, “the Illner” James Milner for the introduction.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpnvI1wzc9Y

    “Ladies and Gentleman….”

    Here comes the Money…….

    “I said Ladies and Gentlemen….”

Here we go…..Here comes the Money…..

“The Illner just said Ladies and Gentleman…..”

    Money, Money, Money, Money Money

“Please welcome the man behind money, the Japanager himself…..”

    ROBERTO NEWMANCINI!

The music suddenly change to Newmancini’s new “Rainmaker theme”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBY_ZkjrKZc

Gareth barry has lost his damn mind, hurling bucket after bucket of glitter over the balcony to the angered mob of reporters below. Newmancini arrives again, the sumo Ginko leaf hairstyle still intact in his disgusting gray hair. As he approaches the podium, he drops his golden entrance robe to the floor, and underneath is an immaculate gray suit with a red and white scarf extending to his ankles, Tom Baker style. Newmancini smiles in a way you might not expect from a man who just faced defeat.

Newmancini takes his seat, and adjusts his tie. The photographers who are not attempting to catch/kill Gareth Barry begin to take pictures of Newman-cini. The Japanager begins to speak, his raspy Italian voice shattering the silence like a hiccup at a funeral.

“Ze Japanger eez heere……With-a this to zay; wee are not shaken. Beefore any of your reporterz question-a me of how sad-a I am over our defeat at ze hands of ze dutch…..SHUT UP-A Your Face!”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJLEXgkddPQ

(This has been your Italian Stereotype Moment of the Night….presented by Fazoli’s Family Restaurants)

“Reason-a we lost number one: Ze Dutch demanded zat ze match-a would be played on a dutch beach. As a result, my team-a had to run-a around in-a disgusting dutch muck! Do-a you KNOW what zeez people do on their beaches? I mean, when zey are sober enough to leave ze clubs and ze brothelz? My Italian heart does-a not have the gumption to even zay it!“

“Reason-a we lost number two: Oranje-a is an unfair color. Dutch beaches, az-a you well know, are alzo orange, form the color of all of their citizens puking on ze beach after their-a nightly benders. Zere uniforms blended right in, rendering zem inveezable to ze human eye! In Japan zis would-a not happened. Our Beaches are beautifully unstained by ze puke of Amsterdam Vomit.”

    “Reason-a we lost number three: It’s a friendly….who-a carez?”

“Zere…..now you have-a your reasons. I cannot imagine any of you even need-a to ask any quesitonz after zuch a perfect statement. Luckily-a for you….Ze Japanager is a merziful emperor. So I will-a now take-a ze queztions. “

An elderly Japanese reporter stands from his chair: “Japanager, what did you learn about your team from this friendly, especially considering the underwhelming performances of Rumplestilskin, ‘the lurking legend’ KenCamm, and your captain, Ryan?”

“I have already went over my three reasons for our dizzapointment: Bad sand, camoflouged kits, only a friendly….what-a else do you need?”

“But surely you have a comment on……blergh”

The elderly Japanese reporter his been swiftly kicked by a masked ninja attacker. The reporters gasp in shock as their fellow professional bleeds out on the floor, holding his now-collapsed trachea.

“Zank you, random-a ninja, you may unmask now.”

The ninja pulls off his cowell to reveal: the original ninja himself……Nigel De Jong!

    “Press, meet Nigel, Nigel…Ze press”

Nigel De Jong smiles, and as he does, spiders crawl from between his teeth.

A bewildered reporter turns back to the Japanager, raising a hand.

“I have a question, Japanager…how many current and former Manchester City players are still under your payroll? There are three in this room already and….gleeeeesh.”

A swift roundhouse kick to the teeth from De Jong renders the reporter crying into his hands.

“Enough irrelevant questions: I will now only-a take queztions on this weekend’s match with…..how do you even say zis coontry’s name? I’m just going to guess: Coat of Divorce, that’s the name of the country now.”

A female announcer sheepishly raises a hand. When she does, De Jong glares at her, as if advising her to tread lightly.

“Japanager…..thoughts on the matchup this weekend with the Ivory Co…..”

    De Jong growls.

“Um, I mean, this weekend’s matches with….the Coat of Divorce?”

    Newman-cini smiles.

    “I thought-a you’d never ask. Here, have a twinkie.”

De Jong pulls a twinkie from God knows where and tosses it to the female reporter.

“One only need-a look at last weekends friendly to zee zat had we played Coat of Divorce last week, we would have beaten them by a handy margin.”

“What do you mean?” Interrupts a reporter. “you only outscored them by a single poi……aaaaah.”

The reporter is immediately beheaded by De Long’s Pectoral muscles alone.

“Like-a I said” continues the Japanager “a handy margin. All I know about Coat of Divorce is that Yaya is from there, and az yaya is-a too busy ruining the hopes and dreamz of all fantasy managers on this-a website, he will not be competing. No Yaya, no victory for the Divorce Court.”

“Any potential changes to your team in response to a less-than ideal result?” Asks a daringly brave female reporter.

De Jong takes a step towards her…..

“ No no, Nigel. I weel show her mercy.”

    “Hrumph,” says Nigel.

“Rumplestilskin is still wet behind the ears. But zat is mostly because we used water torture to punish him for his-a horrible zcore and utterly unnezzezzary last minute-a point hit. Sadly, gareth Barry was doing he torture, so it was-a done incorrectly. Long-term, we-a know hiz enthusiasm will-a do us well.”

“Kencamm iz-a nothing short of a genius. A Hall of Fame Legend. Legends are aloud to have-a off weeks, especially when eet eez a friendly.”

“Az-a for Ryan….he eez a leader, and leaderz always lose on purpose in friendliez. Eet is a fact! I am not worried at all.”

“Zo, to answer your question…..it is a firm, 100% assured….maybe.”

“Are Zere any other-a Questions? And please remember, De Jong is watching.”

As the Emperors personal protector i have no regrets, if that is indeed his command.

But i would like to let you know Sir, that me and the other lads have been studying the Russians closely and are prepared.

Slay Barry who read the fixtures lisf to the Emperor.

Its a Japanese war cry as far as I am aware. I understand this because in NZ we have something similar (in our case its a war dance/chant/challenge known as a haka)

It was used as that but it's a traditional shout for respect for the Emperor, and nowadays is just used as a general "hooray!" sort of shout.

Looking over the fixture list. I think most of us have to be pulling for Ukraine to beat Senegal this weekend to avoid the embarrassment of losing all their matches since they shan't have a chance against Brazil or the Islamic Republic of Iran in their group stage matches.

Seen tweets by the Spanish captain. Not sure what that monkey is smoking.

Reminds me of people I knew in my youth who smoked ginger and then pretended it did something to their brains more than simply inhaling smoked ginger. Tell yourself what you like monkey, but victories over the group patsies USA and Tahiti aren't going to win this group.

True that we don't usually wear anything beneath our taubs, as it is more comfortable, but your insult that our people don't know how to attire themselves at a beach is noted. When we buy your country, we'll make sure to build a parking garage for one of our fleets of cars on the site of your current home.

To the organisers of FFS BSWC. I have a suggestion to make, and since matchday 1 starts only tommorow its not too late to implement. Why not make a provision for the manager to sub a player who has 3 or more unplayable players in his team with the first priority sub in the bench . For eg if three players of a player's main 11 are unavailable through injury or absence.
He might have available subs to come in for the absentees , but if the manager chooses to he can sub the squad player.
A maximum of 1 or 2 substitutions may be allowed per team. How does it sound?

Outside Hernandez, no. Having differential players like Hernandez who has been injured is a pain as only you are affected. Plenty were affected by the other 2 but had a bench to cover. No point playing with 11 & having 4 non players.

    ***SENEGOAL PRESS CONFERENCE***

We are live at the Waterfront Esplanade , in Papeete, Tahiti with team manager Christina.

Reporter : Christina, any surprises in your team selection?

Christina: Not really, although some might see the benching of FORCA as a bit of a surprise. It should be seen as a reminder to the other teams how strong this Senegoal team is.

Reporter : Christina, can you confirm the starting line up?

Christina: Out of the team drops last weeks worst performers, FORCA and Champ. They are replaced by Beric and Canadian Football. Myself and Snakejuice will hopefully get a run out on the sand once we reach the later stages of the tournament.

Reporter : Any last minute preparations for Senegoal?

Christina: Yes, we are heading down to Vaiete Square on Papeete's waterfront to one of the mobile restaurants, where we will have a waffle eating competition.

    https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQpSYTQn4tV2OnUBiWWx8qKSqaVQ4LnuCWCS0pG6gPn7bVYFa3kcg

Reporter: Any player you fear in the Ukrainian team?

Christina: Not at all. We bumped into Granville on the beach.

    http://www.bangersandnash.com/wp-content/uploads/imagetmp/nashweekend/leg-cast-beach.jpg

The fact that Mark's fitness has taken a back seat since getting engaged does not bode well for them. It seems he is more interested in "sofa soccer" then beach soccer at the moment. It really could not have come at a worst time for Ukraine.

Reporter: Good luck Christina, and may the best team win.

    Christina: Thanks, we will.

Cheers. Nothing spectacular so far really. A lot of steady scores rather than any blindingly good gameweeks. Best GW rank so far was 193,501 in GW2.

I've made some bad decisions. I haven't had Ramsey other than to make a quick 0.1 during my wildcard and I sold Yaya before he went on his scoring spree. At least I got one free kick off of him during that 3 week spell.

Highlights so far have been my Michu auto captain when he scored and collected 3 bps in GW5 and the 39 points that my triple Saints defence collected in gameweeks 6 and 7. I played one Saints defender last week and picked the right one - Lovren. So I've had my share of good luck.

Been a weird season so far. I worked out that if I'd captained my chosen keeper for the first 8 game weeks I'd only be TWO points worse off. Like I said, weird season so far.

      dogs diary
      day 7

after being released from japanese detention centre for good boy behaviour i make the long journey to visit our friends and neighbours iran. japanager has been kind enough to let me use his private jet to fly in, though i am a bit worried when i asked the pilot about safety instructions, he says " parachute, we no need parachute torra torra torra". *curls up in corner shaking in scooby doo fashion.
i can safely say we have landed now in tehran heyman comeinme airport. In an argoess manner I face heavy grilling from savak officers, who seem to find it difficult to understand why a dog would have a passport and a tattoo on his back.
5 hours later i am rescued by my guide for the visit, bob smith, strange name for an iranian but on we go.
The guide gives me a 4 hour tour of what are most definitely non nuclear sites, no surree bob are they nuclear sites my friend. Now i dont know about iranian dogs but royal ambassador dogs find this fooking boring.
so we now head to iran secret training camp to meet the players which results in a most confusing conversation.
me " where is the camp"
      bob " fars"
      me " how far"
      bob " very nice"
me " thanks but how long to get there"
bob " get there soon it is fars"
      me "whos on first"
      bob " exactly"
me " hang on i think we have went off track here"
(for those too young check out abbott and costello who's on first)

so we have arrived at training camp which looks very much like camps. After such a long journey, turns out fars was far i naturally need a comfort break, so off i head to find the nearest tree.
      still walking.......
      still walking......
      still walking......
      still walking......
crawling slowly on paws and knees
tell my puppies i had a good life.
oh a tree with a larg lake and a bedouin tent, many camels, a tray of turkish deleight and lady from lady and the tramp lying on a lounger, no it cant be true it must be mirage, just walk by ,walk on by.
i fear this is the end..
