FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament 2013

Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. For anyone looking for further information on how the tournament works, click here for extra details.

Over the past few days, the tournament has become a popular topic on our site as the recruitment drive gets underway. As a result, we have created this article to keep discussion on the tournament to one particular place – we’ll ensure the article is kept featured at the top of the homepage, thus making it easier to find for those already involved or looking to do so.

Good luck to all those taking part.

    ***SENEGOAL PRESS CONFERENCE***

Christina flanked by Beric and Evs after their emphatic beating of Ukraine 576-475.

Reporter: Beric you scored 93 goals, how does it feel being ranked 1434 in the world.

Beric:"I wasn't expecting to be benched in our friendly with Ivory Coast. It made me realize no one is bigger then the team.I put in extra hours at the floating bar at the pool area of our hotel and today it paid off. It doesn't really matter how they go in, but it's always nice to hit those screamers"

Reporter: Evs, how did it feel facing your fellow moderators? Granville had some good good things to say about losing against Senegoal:

"They were probably the best team we've played against. They've got the quality in the final third that can score those goals, which is why the place was full of SCOUTS watching the forwards.
If you'd seen a couple of those goals in the Premier League you'd have been in awe of them. They were unbelievable strikes. But we created chances against a very good team. That's the MARK of where we need to be. It's taken them an hour to put that team together, 2 weeks prior to the official recruiting period, so it's is possible and shows what can be achieved with forward planning.
It's the first time this season that we've lost by more than 100 goals. It's a bit disappointing but we can't complain about the defeat because I thought they were a good team."

Evs:" Because of who we are, people are going to come and try and test us in different ways. Are they going to come and sit and frustrate, or are they going to come and have a go? .In fairness, they came and had a go. They paid the price"

Reporter: Christina, how are you finding managing a team with such an abundance of stars?

Christina "The first job for any coach or manager is to determine whether the opposition's shape is causing you a problem. In the first half, it was.I made the required adjustments and it paid dividends. I know what makes this team tick and I'm not scared to bench players that I feel need more time drinking.

Reporter: Looking ahead, your match up with Iran could be the group decider. Any changes in team formation? Injuries to be concerned about?

Christina "We will put the team through their paces and see how they handle smoking the Hubbly bubbly / hookah, water pipes that Lateriser brought from India. TommyTour looks like he might need a rest and Canadian Football is struggling to cope with the humidity and the abundance of loose women in our hotel foyer. Forca has been working on his WATER COOLER in his room. Now that it cools his Osječko, Croatian beers we feel it will help him with his burning desire for the future Mrs Forca back in Zagreb "

Well done boys you did us proud. Great tactics too Christina, you are the true special one.
I was a part of the discussion that led to my benching. We all felt I really struggled against Ivory Coast and let the team and myself down. I put in the hard yards in training over the weekend. I stayed up drinking while the others slept. I even spent most of Sunday in the gym. Me and my keg were sat on the rowing machine right behind the treadmills where the Tahitian WAG's were gyrating I mean jogging. Must have consumed my own body weight in Flag and I couldn't be more ready to line up against Iran. It will be a tougher test than Ukraine provided but I've done everything I can to ensure I'm in peak condition.

Not as much gloating as I thought on here, is the shock of some results still sinking in?
Just a thought but would it not be a good idea to make a rule that you need to play all your players at least one time. From a comment earlier I got the impression that one team is going to stick to their same core every game and this would seem poor form if it happened, plus would make management even more impressive

A well fought & spirited game, as Spain held off a late USA comeback from their bench...

At the final whistle the Spanish matadors all got on bended knee to bow down to the USA after such a tightly fought contest, expect them to battle to the end in their next match and could still get into the top two places.

Whilst we are very happy to chalk up the 3 pts, the entire Spanish squad have been dragged into extra training this morning, 6 solid hours of Flemenco as we are looking to dance our way to the top of the group!

As an act of good spirit both teams painted the beach resort Spanish red last night, and after a 17 crates of Sangria and 487 bottles of San Miguel the night ended with a wife swapping session, but this time despite some brilliant ball control from the Spanish squad it was the wives of the USA who came first 😉 another good performance.

Hello people and fellow Japan members. Coming to a quick conclusion that my team isn't good enough to start this week over some of my illustrious team mates. Would like a few comments from my fellow Japan team members who feel they have a better chance of points this weekend?

            Migs (ars)

Chico (car), Clyne (sto), Coleman (TOT)
Michu (car), Hazard (new), Ramsey (LIV), HBA (CHE)
Rooney (ful), Suarez c (ars), Giroud (LIV)

Subs: Vlaar (whu), Barkley (TOT), Mertisacker (LIV)
            0FT, 0.1 bank, 0 hits

Could start Vlaar or HBA not sure which. How are my fellow team mates shaping up and how confident are you?

It's a tricky looking weekend for sure, hence the rush to acquire Aguero.

Your FT went on Sturridge to Suarez I see. I've been contemplating the same sale to get Aguero, but Liverpool's overall next few weeks are as good as City's so is it worth losing the money over. It's just a captain I am missing for this weekend, having failed miserably the last two GWs I want to get it right this time.

I'm not sure there's a lot you can do Ryan. HBA is probably a better choice than Vlaar.

Yeah unfortunately the good fixtures seem to be away games and the bad fixtures home games. It certainly makes it awkward and hard to find a captain. I'm tempted to put the armband on Rooney as he is somewhat of a differential even on FFS.

Would you fancy starting your own team over mine this weekend?

It's a lottery this weekend, I suspect a small number of players with high ownership will score well and you need to be fortunate enough to have the right ones.

My team over yours, flip a coin.

                    I've joined the Aguero wagon.

I also detest benarfa from a FF perspective so not the best person to ask - he always lets me down - but I'd go with Vlaar against a fairly toothless (Sours match aside) and defensive West Ham.

Otherwise pretty much the same teams in defence although not players, may double up on Swansea instead of playing Spurs defender.

Mid we both have Michu so it is my Ozil/Oscar against your Ramsey/Hazard.

Up top we both have Suarez, I also have Lukaku.

Have you taken any hits? You should start ahead of me because Aguero looks odds on to do well this weekend and Ozil is the man at home.

              I'd start Vlaar over Coleman....
would have been better if u didn't have to do the suarez thing this week.i take it, this was done for budget constraint...

[by the way, i don't feel like having a better chance of points this weekend 🙂 ]

And Tokyo's team looks good on paper... he should be one of the starters this week...
as for others, it's upto you guys [Japanager, B2B and U] to decide what's best for Japan.... I'm hopeful about making a return in the knockout stages... 🙂 [we'll win the second one and confirm our spot]

I didn't want to have a defence that were all playing away hence starting Coleman. I also don't think much of Spurs attack so I'm happy to start him. Its definitely between HBA and Vlaar for me. The Hammers might have a better attack at home though.

I have decided to start with the same team. Was compelled to do Giroud --> Tekkers or Barkley ---> Ravel. I have decided against it. Saving the transfer. I have a mega plan up my sleeve.

              Well Ryan,
comparing your team against mine its simple.

              Yours/Mine

              Migs/Migs

              Chico/Terry
              Clyne/Fonte
              Coleman/Baines
              Vlar/Chester
              Mert/Vertonghen

              Michu/Hernandez
              Hazard/Oscar
              Ramsey/Ozil
              HbA/Whittingham
              Barkley/Barkley

              Rooney/Lukaku
              Giroud/Giroud
              Suarez/Suarez (c)

Different team..almost same coverage. But i think i slightly have the edge.
              You decide. 😀

Tahiti Captain Thomass pays tribute to Daniel(The Special One).

Tahiti's inspirational midfielder Thomass praises The Special One for the impact he has made on his career at Tahiti.

Tahiti skipper Thomass today paid tribute to Daniel at the teams press conference ahead of their Beach Soccer World Cup fixture against USA.

The Tahiti midfielder said that Daniel was a key reason his career had taken the trajectory that it had, with the Tahitian boss choosing Thomass to be his captain upon his arrival to the club for the first time this year.

“My career is where it is because of this man next to me now. I’m very proud to be working with him again, I worked with him at South Africa and he was a very humbled man” said Thomass.

              I don't know what's worse here...

              1. the sheer act of "forgetting" your team and your loyalties.
              2. that you go boozing two days before an important match day
              3. that you go boozing one day before a match day
              4. Or the fact that you are used to even worse circumstances

The Shadow would never act like this. I do think Spain has right and reason to worry at least slightly.

Thats not ginkapotation. Wheres the science in that. Being benched does not give you a right to play the next week. Scoring 90pts on the bench does not affect the week after.

New week, Clean slate. Best 7 teams.

Ginkapotation is thanful for me and teddy buying up crazy differentials such that we offer something majorly different to the others, sometimes worthwhile and sometimes benchperfect.

Hmm not sure really. Not particularly confident with Brady or Whitts starting. You'd also be hoping Arsenal do well against Liverpool. Strikers are solid like everyone else I guess (although Aguero is the pick of the bunch). Defence is alright.

Solomon scouts take time out from their hectic schedule of supping cocktails and watching the pacific waves roll in to conclude their scout report on spurgentina:
Squad full of bench fodder desperately lacking in star quality. Below average teams, ranks and history across the squad must surely be a concern for their manager as he tries to polish this turd into something coherent. A friendly win against a poor USA team masked their lack of talent but a limp performance against El Salvador was a truer reflection on where they are truly at. An obsession with baines is a consistent quirk across the squad and a baines wander week may be their only hope. On the plus side, 10/10 for their wags and steak, we look forward to enjoying both as part of our traditional pre match exchange.
In summary spurgentina, prepare to be crushed by the unstoppable juggernaut that is the Bilikiki.

Arriving in true Dutch fashion, by bicycle, Player Manager Giggs Boson, Captain HVT, Vice-Captain MJ and Team advisor Poseidon have arrived for their team press conference. All appear very solemn.

Reporter: Netherlands, you suffered a pretty resounding defeat to Solomon Islands at the weekend, yet, you have a massive must-win game against El Salvador at the weekend. how do you pick the team up for that?

Poseidon: Well, we took them back to Amsterdam for a few days. They were missing their home comforts and the little team bonding trip has really boosted morale. We're just hoping to avoid any drugs tests ahead of the fixture now.

Giggs Boson: I think what Poseidon means by that, is that there's really no shame in losing to Solomon Islands. They're a great team, with a fantastic manager in The Shadow. He's really managed to get the likes of GetYourBapsOut, Sir Arselot, and Goaldigger to gel. They were always going to be a frightening prospect from that point.

HVT: Indeed. It was difficult coming out for this pressed but Solomon Islands played a great game and we just wanted to extend our congratulations.

Reporter: Would this week have perhaps been better spent training than in dodgy coffee shops back home?

MJ: ... That's not a bad idea actually. But we've been training hard for some years prior to this tournament. We aren't suddenly going to implode because of a bad result and a few days away. Everything will run like clockwork from herein.

Giggs Boson: We assure you we aren't taking El Salvador lightly. We know what they're capable of. That's why we combined the trip with training.

Reporter: They have players like Milanista... Reedy... Optimus... Wakey, Isacki, and although he's having a bad season - The Parmtree. It's like a who's who of FFS legends - Dr Ennet, Sidharth, Arvin, Kostja, AK - shall I continue?

MJ: Please don't. They've got some fantastic players but we have too. We'll counter them with the cunning and guile of Giggs Boson, the tenacity and aggression of HVT, the wisdom of Wild Rover, the youthful enthusiasm of Scotty's Army, the specialness of Donthespecialone. Look at Gargamel - he's the complete package - he's got pace, he's got speed, and he's fast. Shall I continue?

            Reporter: No.

HVT: The point is, we're confident we can get the result we need. And in case the lads are suffering any lack of confidence following the defeat to Solomon Islands, I've told them that Reedy has captained Aaron Hughes and that the Parmtree is still struggling to shift Bale, Andy Carroll, and Danny Graham from his side. We also informed them that he considers Lee Cattermole a season keeper.

Giggs Boson, HVT, MJ and Poseidon: HUP HOLLAND! ORANJE ARMY!!! HUP HUP HUP!!!!

            **República del Paraguay Press Conference**

After the complete no show at last week’s scheduled pre match press conference from Paraguay, Team Captain Berbacat arrives in the press room bleary-eyed and clutching a Polar Lager - albeit 30 minutes late. Again, there is no sign of Team Manager McNulty who was last seen frolicking on the beach with two of the Japanese player’s wives last Wednesday. Paraguay player Joburger has accompanied Berbacat in McNulty’s absence.

Reporter: Berbacat, first of all, the Ivory Coast match. How do you rate the performance of the team and how do you feel personally after being omitted from the matchday squad?

Berbacat: Aren’t we playing Ivory Coast this week? Omitted from the matchday squad? What nonsense is this?

Joburger: *cough*we played Ivory Coast last weekend and you er... picked up an injury in training*cough*

Berbacat: We did? I did? Ivory Coast, yes. It was a sub par performance from the boys and a totally unacceptable loss. Put simply it was not good enough and much improvement is needed!

            Joburger: *cough*we won. 521 vs 474*cough*

Berbacat: As I was saying... by the Ivory Coast, if they want to progress in the competition. Our players did the Republic of Paraguay proud. *hic* cracks open another can of Polar Lager *hic*

Reporter: Do you have any comments to make regarding the widely reported sightings of you doing body shots with Andy Carroll in a bar a 3am on Friday night just hours before kick off?

Berbacat: *burp* No comment. Next question.

            Joburger: *holds head in hands*

Reporter: You face a stern test this weekend against what on paper, looks to be a very good Japan team. Can we expect to see changes to the lineup for this one?

Berbacat: Those pene pequeño can only last 1 round in a gunfight!!! The only player I’ve ever heard of is Demi! *Berbacat downs his Polar Lager before hurling the empty can at another reporter and swearing in his native Guarani*

Joburger: *stands up and walks out*

Reporter: What about your team though? Are we likely to see you, the team captain, take to the field for this important clash?

            Berbacat: *passes out*

            The location: THE BUDOKAN!

The players: Members of the press fill the room. In recent weeks, these pressers had become something of a joke. But now that Japan have upset group favorites Russia, a great number more reporters are willing to brave the bizarre antics of Roberto Newman-cini and his eccentric posse.

The moron: Gareth Barry is in the balcony, once again, but this time he is not showering the reporters with anything. He looks rather sad about it, actually.

The Occasion: A celebration of a victory.

Suddenly a song echoes out over the loudspeakers. It is the unmistakable theme song of both shane Mcmahon and Roberto Newman-cini:

“Here comes the moooooooooooooney! (Aw yeah Money talks!)”

            “Here comes the money….”

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5Xo75bh7no

“Money Money Money Money Money Money Money Money Moneeeeeeeeeey….”

But all of a sudden, the song switches to a much more addicting beat:

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eUozCV_NLU

            Aaaaaaaaaaaaw yeah!

            “I get money… I, I get money….I, I get, I get, I get, I get…”

            “I-I get it!”

            “I- I get it!”

            “I run New Yawk”

All of a sudden, money begins to rain down from the balcony. A once somber Gareth Barry is now making it rain, as cash falls all around onto the press. The reporters seem really happy until they see the bills: which have this face photocopied onto each one.

            http://images.dailyexpress.co.uk/img/dynamic/67/285x214/181320_1.jpg

Needless to say, the value of such a bill: Absolutely worthless.

The press is disgruntled once again after their hope of receiving actual cash has been dashed. Clearly they are unaware that Roberto Newman-cini, now separated from Sheik Mansour’s funds, does not actually have the spare cash for any of his exuberant entrances.

Yet that fact does nothing to stop Newmancini from entering in what appears to be a suit made entirely out of veneer.

            That or nylon.

Yeah, definitely Nylon. It looks like he made the suit out of a tent or something.

It deters him not…as he prances into the room, grooving to the bass and the all-but-forgotten voice of ‘Fitty’ Cent.

He shakes his shoulders casually as he smiles, sauntering into his chair. He folds his hands in front of him, seeming comfortable and smug.

“For those of-a you who are-a here for ze first time, we-a welcome you to my press event-a spectac-a-ular. “

“My friends, we have much-a to celebrate. Ze Russians are one of ze most finely assembled team in ze tournament. As far as team assembling go, I cannot-a compliment zem enough. And zey actually did it wizzout cheating, unlike-a ze Zenegolese.”

“Ze Russians are an immeze team, wheech only means zat eet would take-a an immense team to beat zem. We, gentleman…..we are zat immenze team!”

“We take nozzing away from ze Russians. We sinzerely hope zat we will ze zem in ze final! Zey are fellow Asians…..fellow Deadzonians!”

“It took nozzin less-a zan an incredible performance, and absolutely everyzing needed to go-a perfect for us on-a ze last day. But ze boys never zaid die, and delivered in-a great way.”

“Zere is-a not enough words in any language to-a describe ze pride I have-a for my team!”

“I weel now-a take questions. I will-a begin with you sir: the handsome one in-a ze back.”

The Japanager points to a man with a mustache in the back. It is clearly James Milner wearing a fake moustache.

“uh, Japanager….how did you team celebrate this great victory.”

“Well I’m-a glad-a you asked, James Miln….I mean random-a reporter”

The Japanager picks up a card and seems to be reading from it. His accent also seems to have disappeared.

“ We, of course, Celebrated by going to one of the many convenient locations of Fazoli’s Family Restaurants. Right now they are offering to make any entrée a Fresh Value Favorite, including a small drink with a pizza slice or salad for only $2.50 more! Plus, all the breadsticks you can eat, of course! Fazoli’s is the first name in accessible Italian food for the whole family! Visit one of the convenient locations in your area!”

            NewMancini smiles.

            http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2011/10/31/article-1320069769924-0E697B5300000578-241112_636x300.jpg

As he does, two banners unravel from each side of the stage with the Fazoli’s logo.

            http://webpages.charter.net/mcfarland/photos/FAZ%203-color.jpg

            “Eat at Fazolis!”

The reporters look at each other is puzzlement before another one asks a question.

“Japanager, you benched your own captain, Ryan, in week one , and there are rumors that he is not ready for the match this weekend. It seems strange to use one of your leaders so sparingly.”

            Newmancini shakes his head

“How-a typical of you press-a cabbages! What a horrible, negative question. Think about it. Can Ryan complain if he is benched-a right now? He is-a happy for the team’s great victory! Do you think he is bitter for benching him when we played so well becauz-a my brilliant tacteeecs?! Do you think-a he can even be bitter for not playing thiz-a weekend? No, he cannot and will not. His loyalty is-a to the team!.”

“Now-a you have ruined my mood. I feel completely zoiled now! Nigel…..attack zis man.”

A random member of the Japanese press removes a very expensive looking mask, to reveal the evil and nefarious Nigel De Jong. The reporter who asked the question about Ryan knows what is coming, and turns to run, but receives a flying, studs up kick to the back of the neck, dropping him teeth first into the ground, his blood now pooling around his head.

            “Nezt-a question? You there…”

A blonde male reporter stands to ask his question.

“Japanager…you seemed confused about your opponent last week. Do you actually know who you are facing this week?”

“Yes-a….you can understand-a my confusion. Ze butterly schedule makes-a no sense!”

“But-a yes…this week we face-a the Paraguayans. Ze totalfpl team. We cannot deny-a zat Russia was our-a number one targets in ze group. We must-a be careful to not unerestemate any zingle team. Ze Paraguayans were only 5 points behind ourselves zis week. We must-a be careful!”

A small Japanese woman raises her hand to ask a question.

“Japanager…what of the rumors that Paraguayan Team Manager Mcnulty has been Zeen frolicking weez ze wives of Japanese players?”

“O zey are all true! In order to ensure our victory, we have infected all of our wives with gonorrhea. We were aware they would-a sleep with our competition, and we anticipated it! Congratulations, Paraguay: you’re all infected!”

“The Japanager will not take questions from the rest of the press. Choose your questions wisely, or this is waiting for you.”

              Epic.

              "Deadzonians". Quality.

What's wrong with Ryan's team - normally he's pretty reliable?

Nothing wrong at all. Just had a rough friendly, was benched last week, and may not make it this week, either. (by his own volition)

It's fine but 1 line would look a lot better.

Well done. Unfortunately for you guys, McNulty's the only one that has been sleeping with the Japanese wives, and well he won't be selected for the 7 anytime soon, just as you've planned 😉

We've still got 11 squad members ready, and compliments from McN. Yuki was great apparently
