Community

The Community Round Up

This week has seen the re-emergence of rotating defender strategies, a concept long thought lost, as premium defenders dominated the scoring in the first few weeks of the season.  The community has also been taking a look at potential improvements to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and its bonus points system, as well as airing their ongoing frustrations surrounding those pesky Yaya Toure- and Aaron Ramsey-owning casuals. We catch up with the week’s discussions, along with the very latest in our community tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

Among our most popular posts this week was Maxi’s soapbox-style discussion about team value and his criticism of those placing too much emphasis on how much their Fantasy squad is worth. He ponders whether money made on a player that is a season keeper really matters.

The structure and rules of the FPL game also came under discussion this week, courtesy of Evs. Among ideas to improve the game was Stinkfly’s suggestion that managers be restricted to just two players per team. Also, Gimli Son Of Gloin wants keepers to be given more points for a clean sheet, while Ryan called for defensive midfielders to get rewarded for their hard work protecting the backline.

Granville was also on hand to say his piece, aiming his ire specifically the Bonus Points System (BPS). He was concerned that a whopping seven players gained bonus points during Crystal Palace’s largely drab 1-0 victory over West Ham. Could the BPS be improved? Champ certainly thinks so, with his call to “bring back the man in the stands”.

With premium midfielders starting to pick up points, those who sing at the church of cheap defensive rotation were in good voice this week. Innsie’s post looking at the best options was particularly good, particularly for those already with a Crystal Palace defender. Bankst was another looking at rotation options, this time focusing on goalkeepers. A blend of Cardiff stopper David Marshall and Palace’s Julián Speroni was picked out as particularly enticing.

Talking of keepers, Evs was one of many in the unenviable predicament of having both his stoppers, Southampton’s Artur Boruc and Kelvin Davis, injured going into Gameweek 14. During his discussion about what his fellow sufferers plan to do he talked up (and ended up drafting in) Manchester City’s goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, while Hamerstergod was eyeing up Cardiff’s Marshall.

Boruc’s injury will have come as a blow to many a “casual manager” – those who put their trust in the bandwagons and adopt a fire-and-forget policy. On that front, HVT had a go at creating the the definitive ‘casual’ team. True to form this season, it turns out that he created a pretty impressive lineup.

And finally, ahead of Gameweek 14, Konig Luther provided this interesting post about how many points are needed to reach key ranking achievements. Giggs Boson was among those pleased to discover he was just a whisker away from the top 10,000 at the time.

Community Leagues & Cups

Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing League has lost another 62 managers across Gameweeks 13 and 14, leaving 488 to continue on.

Evs, Bootsy, Athletico Timbo, Crouch Potato, Chazza and Koneheads currently lead In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues.  Meanwhile, his cup competition has reached the quarter finals stage with La Roja among the community names still involved.

In Fifa Las Vegas’s ‘Championship style’ competitionSomebody’s Gonna Get Lit Up and Champ are currently embroiled in the final, which is taking place over Gameweek 15.

A reminder that the FFS Paddy Power Cup Third Round was played out over this weekned’s matches – we’ll bring you a full run-down of the results and the draw for the next round on Tuesday.

    Szeczney

    Terry, GJ, Coleman (Gabbidon, Turner)
    Yaya, Ramsey, Hazard, Morison (Brunt)
    Rooney, Aguero, Suarez

Thinking of saving this week. Then maybe Terry - Jags? To much to double up on Everton D

Not sure how much you have in bank but Rooney, GJ, Brunt to Lukaku,Chester,Premium mid would be decent in the coming weeks.

Terry, Coleman, Hull, CPL, Cardiff make a brilliant rotation from GW18 to 24.

Yeah was thinking Lukaku for Rooney. Almost everyone in my mini league did that transfer. I think I may hold Rooney as he has become a differential in my mini league.

Yeah your right gw 18-24 they do have a nice rotation. May move GJ out rather then Terry.

                Giroud

Considering Gerrard if confirmed not fit to either Redmond / Fer.
It will allow me to upgrade Jedinak to Silva. Yay oir nay?

Assuming I go through with the transfer, Redmond has better stats but Fer is on form.
The extra money from Redmond would also allow me to switch Ramsey to Walcott in the future.

Should I go Fer or Redmond?

depends on how much he plays, if he starts/comes off the bench, if he looks as mobile as he usually does, etc.

honestly with the team that City have I can understand the need to not rush him back and he may be fully fit..also it was just a calf..Theo's pelvic tear is more serious so I can understand the timid reintroduction

I don't mind Silva playing minimally vs Arsenal to be honest, rather than Gerrard rotting away on my bench. And it would waste a transfer getting in Yaya then getting Silva, wouldn't it? I assume Pellegrini will want his best side against the league leaders so Silva must feature, no?

    STRAW POLL TIME

For the season (draft game), which option would you rather have?

Kagawa rarely plays and will play less now RVP and Rooney are available, Torres flatters to deceive and Jose will probably buy in Jan so that just leaves Brunt!

will Gerrard owners be bringing in Silva this week if he gets anytime against Bayern? or will you be looking to Yaya or Walcott?

I myself only have 9.8 available otherwise I might have considered trying to fit in Ozil and ship Terry (though I still could for a hit honestly, that Chelsea defense is killing me)

But I think a large percentage of his owners are active players. Most of his price rise happened over the last month or so when he started delivering returns.
Active players are not going to leave a 9m player sitting on their bench for six weeks.

    City vs Arsenal:

I dont want to waste 5M in the bank but even if Silva & Walcott are announced fit & start this week, would you get them in for Whittingham (WBA at home) or just save FT and wait a week?

Hope Oscar is fit too, so double on Chelsea Mid (already got Hazard) one week before get Silva.

yep. i fi go for lukaku the only reason would b as to freeing up fund for jags or colemans
        basically it would be
        rooney & distin
        or
lukaku & Jagielka (jags baps & bonus appeal better than Coleman's potential for asist & gol no?)

**Gerrard is the other issue, chances are hes out 6 weeks, was going to wait till thu for moe team confirmation, whihc in this case id have to drop him for either oscar, wally or Oviedo!

bit of a mess, would u advise going for a hit -8? im now 150k unfort.

Who are you guys captaining this week?Lukaku,Hazard,Aguero,Rooney or Suarez? It is actually good that there is no particular 'best choice' this week.

Haha good point,I always prefer strikers over midfielders anyways.Rom looks good but Fulham were pretty good yesterday so I doubt I'll captain him. Aguero looks a good shout and so does Suarez

there is a very strong case for captaining all of them... the one i think is risky though is hazard.. the others seem alot safer

Team did okay, 66 all out. Saved by Suarez again. Would have been much better had it been 0-0 last night.

Yea hazard will give you rewards just have to be patient. Plenty got rid when he bad 2 blanks in a row. But that's hazard for you, have to take the ups and downs.

Suarez is the safe pick but might go for a flair one this GW. That being said might still buckle and go with Suarez come deadline. But yes Rooney is at the top of my list. Also the fact that if I pull it off, I'll be climbing my ML quite a bit!

I was hoping for a 0-0 as well but I guess 1-1 wasn't all too bad either.
I fear for Haz being rested in the palace game because I think Mou will play him in the champions league game.If he does, that will make him play 4 games in 10 days and he may become victim to Mou's penchant for rotation.
Go with your gut feeling on the captain mate, that decision is and should be entirely yours!

Aguero over Rooney would be better. RVP's gonna share some of those points and United's been pretty miserable on the offensive front. So, form over fixtures for me, Not implying anything negative about Rooney's form, but, just that Aguero swings it for me.

I keep hearing this argument. Why would that be excessive? Four Everton defenders are in the top 10 in terms of defender points. Two at the very top. Add in that Howard is the leading scorer among goalkeepers. How much more proof do people need that the Everton defense is good and that doubling up on defenders from a single team isn't such an evil?

It might work out or might back fire too. I would like to spread my bets, it's safe that way. But, doubling up on Everton, even though risky, could reap rewards.

I understand your viewpoint, and you're correct that it could either work out or backfire. I still think that I'd rather have 3 Everton defenders than 1 Everton defender and two dudes from other teams, especially right now with the attractive fixtures. Too bad I don't currently have any Everton defenders. Got rid of Coleman several weeks back. Boy, that was a good idea.......NOT!

I hear you man, Everton has been very impressive under Martinez. Doubling up sure has its share of rewards, Most people did double up on Southampton's defence too some GW's earlier and it worked out well for those who opted. Good luck man

hi guys below is my team and i need some help pls!

    speroni

    ward turner chico jags baker

    gerrard walcott ramsey morrison hazard

    lukaku suarez aguero

    3.1m itb

initial plan is to do chico->distin and see how rooney perform b4 deciding whether to sell lukaku back for rooney on gw 17. but with gerrard walcott injuried/sub i m tempted to do gerrard->yaya which will mean tt i do not have enough $ to get rooney.

shld i juz stick with lukaku and use the 3m to get yaya and maybe ozil and coleman or go for a cheaper alternative lyk mirallas? problem will be solved though if i can get oscar/silva but both of them injuried. thanks in adv!
