Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 25 – The Weak

Having assessed those boasting prime platforms for strong returns in the coming Gameweeks, we now turn to assess those on far more shaky foundations. The in-form Black Cats and Arsene Wenger’s title chasing charges feature amongst those blessed by few favours from the fixture computer.

Sunderland

sun25

The transformation under Gus Poyet has been remarkable: unbeaten in their last four, fresh from a 3-0 triumph at St James’ Park, Fantasy managers should be carefully running the rule over their mid-price assets. The fixture list strongly suggests we should cool our boots, however, with newly acquired prize possessions – Vito Manonne and Adam Johnson are perhaps set for a barren run as Poyet’s men come back down to earth with a proverbial bump.

The Gameweek 28 blank is the first consideration – around that we have three evil away fixtures at City, Arsenal and Liverpool. It’s hard to imagine the Black Cats’ rearguard standing up to that assault, making home matches with Hull and Palace precious intervals in what is a harrowing schedule. Johnson’s form could carry him through, although he will have to add the “fixture proof” attribute to his growing reputation as a Fantasy asset if he is to live up to his recent level of investment.

Arsenal

ars25

With the Gunners now firmly under threat from City and Chelsea in the title race, Arsene Wenger’s men are on the eve of their most testing run of fixtures with Liverpool, United and Spurs on the horizon in the next six. A trip to Stoke offers little respite, making the Emirates meetings with Sunderland and an off-colour Swansea all the more vital.

Fantasy managers are perhaps likely to hold firm in the hope that Wenger’s men can weather the approaching storm but, defensively, returns look unlikely beyond the two aforementioned home encounters. In attacking terms, there is still much to be optimistic about, with the Liverpool, United and City defences all having apparent cracks to expose.

Fulham

ful25

It seems highly unlikely that Fantasy managers would dare knock on the door at Craven Cottage, even to consider the newly acquired talents of Kostas Mitroglou. There’s little question that the form of Rene Meulensteen’s side is faltering badly, just in time to coincide with a run of opponents that will likely leave them rooted to the bottom of the table come mid-March. United, Liverpool and Chelsea loom in the next three, surely consigning Fulham to scrap for points in the away trips to West Brom and Cardiff.

Also be wary of…

Man United
The blank in Gameweek 28 already prompts the need for caution when considering United’s assets and form would suggest that they are unlikely to make light of a testing run of matches heading into March. Three away trips follow the Old Trafford encounter with Fulham, with Arsenal, Palace and West Brom amongst the most stubborn home defences in the league.

Crystal Palace
While Tony Pulis’ rearguard resources have served us well in recent weeks, they look set to be stretched by forthcoming encounters with Everton and United, while trips to Swansea and Sunderland, plus a Selhurst Park meeting with in-form Southampton, also suggest that clean sheets will be hard to come by.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For me it was all about the feel of it, the colour, the music. I agree he's a douche but well cast in Drive and the director used him perfectly

70% of the reason I like it so much is because it's a decent/good movie, but not great.
30% is because it's fun and strange and "cool"... the music and the lighting, the girl is super hot, it has a bad guy with a creepy weapon collection, etc.

It's arty and whatever, and that makes some people hate it, i guess.

I loved Drive. I didnt really like 'The Wolf of Wall Street'. Didn't really like being in the company of Jordan Belfort for nigh on 3 hours. Hard to feel any empathy with that character. He made Tony Montana look like Father Christmas.

I find it ironic that a lot of people are bemoaning injuries in their team when it was those injuries that have saved my season. I've climbed from 112,000 to 14,000 in the 7 weeks since the likes of ramsey/ rooney/aguero/coleman and lukaku have picked up injuries. Those injuries shook up the template and opened the door to (slight) differentials like lallana/aj/eriksen/silva/sturr/ade/dzeko/mata/azpil etc. etc.. Anyone else feel that injuries actually benefited them the same way or is it just me?

    Hello Guys!
Seem there are some talks about Cahill and Azpi and so I'll post my predictions again. Feel free to give some thoughts about it. 🙂

Looks like Cahill and Azpi plays against the "important" matches. I'll go back to GW8 for this one.

    Azpi:
GW8- 22min appearance against Cardiff after 3 days played 90mins against Schalke.
GW9- DNP against MCity after 2 days played 90 mins and Scored a goal against Arsenal for the League cup.
GW10- DNP against Newc after 4 days he played 90mins against Schalke.

    Cahill:
GW8- DNP against Cardiff after 3 days played 90mins against Schalke.
GW10- DNP against Newc after 4 days he played 90mins against Schalke.
GW16 DNP against palace after 3 days played 90 mins against Sunderland for the league cup.
GW17 played 90 mins against Arsenal after 3 days GW18 DNP against Swans after 3 days again GW19 played 90 mins against Liverpool.

    So my predictions:
    >A GW26 WBA match would they be rested for the visit at The Etihad on Feb15 for their FA cup match.
    >GW27 is tricky with a home game against Everton because after 4 days they would visit Galatasaray. So might get a rest against the Toffees.
    >The next stop for them would be against the Villains at GW30 when they face again Galatasaray 3 days after and so GW30 rest might happen.

WC holders, what's your plan on when you're going to play it?

Hopefully that's possible, as long as the injuries stay away, I've made 4 forced changes in the last two GW's due to injury/being sold.

I take it you think you think there's going to be a better time to play my WC than 28 then?

No quotes or thoughts from Pellegrini at all but yeah could be a great differential.

More expensive than I thought he'd be, I suppose no one had him at the start to be able to sell his price down.

Well yeah, Pellegrini is never going to come out and say he'll be starting this early. Tabloids always coming out with these stories though. He seems a good short-term option for the next few weeks till the blank maybe, but like you, i would've thought he was a bit cheaper.

Yep, tbh I think it's just someone trying to guess what'll happen, I wouldn't pay too much attention to it.

This said as a worried player who bought Negredo earlier this week...

I think all 3 strikers will get a decent amount of gametime and points over the next 3 games, plenty of goals about, I might even go with Negredo and Dzeko for the two home games.

Yeah his goals seem to paint over the cracks, i think the general consensus is that he's 4th choice striker now. But Pellegrini has been giving him a good run now as he keeps scoring, and has had injuries to Aguero/Negredo. Time for a change, perhaps. It's anyone's guess though as to which two will play each week.

    Boruc
    Terry, Ward, Evans (Koscielny, Whittaker)
Mata, Hazard, Eriksen, Gerrard ( Ki)
    Suarez, Sturridge, Giroud

    A) Whittaker to Reid
if Evans doesn't play Kos will still be benched, and then play Ki over Gerrard

Fair enough. Rooney playing deep against Stoke was a result of Evans & Jones injuries/subs. Carrick, Fletcher, Cleverley, Jones, Fellaini back to full fitness will allow Rooney to play that no.10 role behind RVP exclusively, I think

Against a poor Fulham side, no need for Rooney to push too deep this upcoming GW

I know Rooney played in midfield because of an injuries and he'll be playing more up front, but my guts say not to go for him.

I stuck with Rooney, Suarez, Aguero for a good while.

I have an FT and I am all ears as to how to get an edge with this squad:

    Mannone (Speroni)
    Distin, Koscielny, Terry (Parr, Chester)
    Hazard, Yaya, Gerrard, Mutch (Ki)
    Rooney, Suarez, Adebayor

£0.8 (I expect to save it; until I can convert the Rooney spot back to Aguero)

Dumping Terry in favour of Mertesacker and an Araenal double block on my Jan WC is so frustrating. Lost points and now he's too pricy to buy back. Felt wrong transferring out Terry despite his tougher fixtures. Should have listened to my gut feeling!

Could have the opinion of the late guys please?

    Mannone
    Cahill // Kolarov // Bardsley
    Mata // Hazard // Mirallas // Eriksen
    RVP // Suarez // Bony

    Adrian // Barkley // Clyne // Chambers

Not at all sure about the subs and their order. Double Sun or play Clyne? Barkley ahead of Soton defs in bench order? Opinion appreciated 🙂

I'd prefer to hedge bets but if Chambers is fit you risk getting a 1 pointer off the bench.

So Clyne if Chambers is out, Bardsley if he's not.
