Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 36 – Monday

Mesut Ozil serves up his second-highest Fantasy haul of the season, with a goal, assist and maximum bonus points as Arsenal sweep aside sorry Newcastle. Olivier Giroud also finds the net and provides an assist, whilst Laurent Koscielny delivers a double-figure return by firing the opener as the Gunners pick up their fifteenth shut-out of the campaign:

Ozil Turns on the Style
We’d highlighted the German as one to keep an eye on in last week’s Mission and he turned in his most impressive Fantasy showing since Gameweek 8 with a goal, assist and maximum bonus points in last night’s easy win. Whilst Aaron Ramsey’s bandwagon persuaded over 334,000 Fantasy managers to draft in the Welshman prior to the weekend deadline, Ozil was picked up by just 9,000 and vindicated his new owners’ decision with a 14-point haul against the hapless Magpies.

Arsene Wenger’s team are now four points clear of Everton with just a home game against West Brom and Norwich remaining, and despite the lack of a double, their chief assets could be set to deliver the points over that final pair of fixtures, with the Gunners scoring three times in each of their previous trio of matches. Looking ahead to next term, Ramsey’s presence in the first XI is clearly beneficial to the German – he has delivered 112 points in 17 appearances alongside the Welshman (an average of 6.6 points per game) compared to 19 points in seven matches (2.7 ppg) without Ramsey.

Koscielny a Key Differential
Owned by only 7% of Fantasy managers after a recent stint on the sidelines with a calf complaint, the French racked up the points with another commanding display. The 3-0 win saw Arsenal serve up a fifteenth clean sheet of the campaign, and with a goal and couple of bonus points also accrued, the 5.5-priced Koscielny produced a double-figure haul for only the second time this term. Koscielny has now equalled the 25%-owned Per Mertesacker’s two goals and has outscored his fellow centre-half by 23 bonus points to 21 – an average of 4.7 ppg against the German’s 4.4 ppg highlights his worth as a differential route into the Gunners defence.

Giroud Still Ticking Over
The much-maligned frontman was back in the points with a goal and assist as Arsenal condemned Alan Pardew’s side to a sixth straight loss. In a similar situation to the Ozil-Ramsey transfers in last week, Giroud was mainly overlooked as many Fantasy managers loaded up on Lukas Podolski but the Frenchman found the net for the third time in his last four home appearances to move into fourth spot in the Fantasy Premier League forwards standings – for all his frustrating flaws, only Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge have earned more points. With City and United set for doubles, it’s fair to say that few will be looking to draft in Giroud in spite of his kind remaining fixtures, though some of his 21% owners may well decide to hold after last night’s haul.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

There's Rio, Jones, Rafael, Evans, Vidic, Buttner, Evra, Smalling all fighting for 4 places and Giggs has said that he "wants to give all the lads a game".. I'm not going near United's defence myself.

Giggs wants to win the last 3 to show he can keep the job. He is not gonna rotate his defense so much. I could only see Rafael coming back in RB and maybe Rio dropping for Ferdinand.
Vidic is the captain and should play...

Calling all mini-league chasers. What with the DGW upon us, we have perhaps one last throw of the dice to claw back some points. Assuming that our respective leaders will play the percentages and go with the usual suspects this week, what leftfield punts are you considering?

I'll start off with Some candidates that could be worth considering:

Schurrle - just one game I know, but against a doomed Norwich he has the potential to do some serious damage, ESP if he doesn't feature tomorrow

Giaccherini - providing Poyet realises he has a real player on his hands and starts him

Dzeko - a clumsy oaf, but one that scores goals. Together with or instead of Kun, the latter frees up funds to bring in Yaya.

Borini - in form and on pens, alternative to the more fashionable Wickham.

RVP - will put a huge dent in the budget, but if he starts both games, the points could roll in.

What other candidates are on your watchlists?

What do you think about smalling instead of Ferdinand. With 2 games, if united keep to clean sheets. Do you think Giggs will play him. If not who else 4.6 .mil or less could i sign in defence it's for -8 hit. I already did nasri>yaya and sidwell > Amafialo from west brom.

The leader captained Rooney this week but Aguero last week. I think he will go with Aguero. I suppose captaining Rooney gives me some sort of insurance for not having Mata (assuming there returns are correlated in some way). I also have three City attackers so Aguero (c) might not be the best option.

I'd rather a bit more Bayern in the mix. That will probably be the high scoring game....

Chelsea v Atletico another defensive grind....think 1-0 or 0-0 - penalties are the most likely outcomes.

Do people prefer league position ties being decided on goal difference or the Spanish head to head results?

Goal difference gives the chasing team something to play for so a strong argument there. On the other hand head to head is a pretty fair reflection directly on the two teams in question rather than someone scalping someone 7-0 after they were down to nine men earlier in the season.

Like to see the Premiership adopt head to head?

Prefer Goal difference - as takes into account performance across the season, not just in two games where teams may have had injuries, suspensions, bad decisions go against them, etc.

Goal difference, gives the chasing team something to play for if they were beaten by the leader already in the season.

Do think head to head should come after goal difference, goals scored and conceded though.

Cech is maybe fit now but in any case, I don't see a change of keeper making much of a dent in 50 points. You need gambles with more explosive differential potential.

Take a look at Rasping Drive's Hot Topic for ideas:
