Versus – Low to Mid-Price Midfielders

With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

Yep, only going to be playing him in the home games. If QPR prove themselves defensively then I'll start to play him away from home too.

do you have any research of his goals scored at home vs away?

I understand benching him away to say Man City but away to Burnley? hmmmm

His first away games are Spurs and United which is why he isn't playing for me in those games. I'd definitely play him away at Burnley for example. Last season he scored 3 goals at home and 2 away, all against mid-bottom table opposition.

He really isn't...people just seem to go by his Swansea year/ stats that don't tell his awful positioning/ attacking threat.

No wonder no big club came for him this year. Watched him plenty of occasions last year. Just abysmal most of the times....

Yeah I agree, he may be a cheap option further in, Leicester have an easier run GW6 - 14 when they play Liverpool, but I feel for Leic - No game will be easy.

I'm thinking Bojan for now, almost guaranteed start and apart from MC in GW3 Stoke have the kinder opening 6, pretty kind first 12 games looking at it. May look at finding the extra 0.5 for Austin or Ideye.

I think having 2 dzeko's is a big risk. They'll be competing against each other for game time.

Essentially, got a draft pick. Both of them are available. Debuchy is better for attacking but only if he plays all the time.

Would a pairing of 5.5 & 5.0 mids with decent goal scoring records be better than Siggy and a 4.5 who never gets off the bench except by accident?

Doubtful just looking through the 5.5 options now and Swansea have a couple who would be OK options in Shelvey, Routledge, Dyer..... but I'd expect Siggy to score more than them. Other than that you've got Noble, Sidwell who scored well but the problem is no-one in the 5.0 appeals much more than the 4.5 options

I would say 330 (55 pts per week) is a great benchmark.
As for using RMT, it is an excellent tool and the tool I trial most; however it cannot take account of our personal punts or preferences.

          I use throughout the season.
Last year I used it however got caught out at the beginning with injuries, suspensions etc... and never recovered. However I did slowly progress; I plan on a 6-10 GW period; and not beyond GW20, as GW21 (I think) is when we get a free wildcard.

            Everton 1-0 Chelsea

            Everton 0-0 Spurs
            Everton 3-3 Liverpool

            Arsenal 1-1 Everton

            Chelsea 1-0 Everton
            Everton 3-0 Arsenal
            Everton 2-0 Man Utd
            Everton 2-3 City

5/12 clean sheets and a few 1-0's against. Ignoring the liverpool and city games they did more than ok defensively

Who do you think will be the top attacking defenders of the coming season? i.e. Most FPL points from goals/ assists regardless of clean sheets etc.

Several candidates, not all of whom had great attacking stats last year:

    Terry
    Cahill
    Ivanovic
    Zabaleta
    Kompany
    Skrtel
    Caulker
    Vertonghen
    Evans
    Rafael
    Vermaelen

Probably have ignored some other obvious names.
    Who do you think?
