The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Next up is Demi who is looking for feedback on this team:

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMTs throughout the day on this article.

Would anyone care to RMT my team. Going 3-5-2 and overloading the midfield.

    Green-Gilks

    Naylor-Rosenior(Which hull 4.5 is best right now)-Duff-Luis-Gibbs

    Sterling-Errikson-Mata-Fabregas-Silva

    Rooney-Dzeko-Zamora

Should I get an arsenal attacker/mid and who for?
Is rooney a better bet than Costa?

City have a way of getting about their business and racking up points and are usually dependable on playing the same starting 11. Silva whenever he plays just seems to get a lot of points with minimal fuss. I realise he will get injured at some point so may as well get something from him while I can. Choosing between these expensive mids at this stage appears to be mostly down to gut feeling at this point

I'll join in on this RMT madness! I keep making new transfers every day. I'm not sure if there is a player left who hasn't been in my squad yet.

Anyway, here's my current 15. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Krul / Begovic
Evans / Ward / Chester / Van Aanholt / Bartley (or any 4.0)
    Mata / Sanchez / Eriksen / Sigurdsson / Arnautovic
    Costa / Rooney / Austin

You could easily save 0.5 on the keepers by downgrading either. I'd try and squeeze in Gary Cahill and downgrade Arnie

Thoughts on this team lads...much appreciated!

    Begovic - Gilks
Evans - Luis - Ward - Chester - Van Aanholt
    Mata - Ramsey - Fabregas - Henderson - Sigurdsson
    Rooney - Costa - Bojan

A 4.0m Defender would give me 0.5 to play with. This could be used to upgrade the GK or upgrade Luis to Cahill/Terry. Anything else that needs addressed?

Seems solid all round although the obvious is Bojan. Surely downgrade Hendo to upgrade Bojan? Unless you're going for the 3 5 2 which I wouldn't be a huge fan of.

I would be happy enough to do this if there was a striker in the 6-8m price range who has promise, I am willing to wait and see what happens at the start of the season I think.

Henderson is nailed on with some good runs into attacking areas.

Not nailed on. There is a good chance that he will start and perform well but at this stage I would rather not take the risk until we know for sure. If he was not to play I would be relying on a 4.5 mid or defender....

Havent done a RMT this pre season yet but hoping for a critique on what I think is a pretty solid team. Only think I'm wondering is freeing up funds by dropping Alexis

    http://gyazo.com/f2b45303fba5f95ba6b02c35a3f3d52c

    Schmeichel, Foster
Caulker, Moore (Lei), Taylor(Swa), Cahill, Coloccini
    Alexis, Tadic, Siggy, Mata, Albrighton
    Costa, Jovetic, Rooney

Hoping for a balanced review if any of you have a minute to spare 🙂

    RMT

    Begovic - Krul
    Luis - Ward - B.Davies - Simpson - Wisdom
    Hazard - Ramsey - Mata - Eriksen - Siggy
    Rooney - Jovetic - Ulloa

Is there a better 4.5 keeper that rotates well with Bego?

nearly exactly the same as mine. However, I think that B Davies is an unnecessary risk, who is almost certain to be rotated with Rose around europa league fixtures. This is even more of a problem since Bartley and Moore don't seem like reliable back ups. I'd be more inclined to go for some nailed on 4.5 defenders, like N Taylor, O Shea/Van Aanholt, Colocini, rio etc

Okay, thanks. I might just swap Huth for Davies, then get 4.5 rotating keepers instead of Begovic. That said, I think Rose is a very poor defender, so would expect him to play in the Europa games, and Davies to keep his spot in the league.

I think the 6-7m bracket has a few beauts in midfield but up front you are donna struggle for a big scorer.

Here's a little "alternative XI" for the hipsters.

4-5-1 with a rock solid bench

    ---------------------- Courtois --------------------------
    ------------ Luis - Jones - Huth - Enrique ---------
    Cazorla - Silva - Lamela - Arnautovic - Barkley
    ----------------------- Rooney --------------------------

Bench: Given - Jovetic - Long - Hangeland

Obviously, Jovetic comes in as soon as any player is out or has a bad fixture.
Double Chelsea defence, United, Stoke both solid and Enrique is an attacking beast. Palace defence available off the bench.

Some real diff's in there. Why bench Jovetic though? I'd definitely play him over Barkley.

Just an example of the team set up. Barkley could be a beast this season, Jovetic is a bit more of a short term punt and would need replacing if he finds himself back on the bench.

Looks cool although not keen on Newcastle GKs, who would you bench GW1 out of that midfield/attack?

It all looks good, although i;d be a bit uneasy about Jovetic as Dzeko offers a reliable option for Pelle rather than a player whos simply had a good pre-season.

Krul woulddnt be my keeper of choice as Newcastle look very dodgy at the back.

I think a lot will end up with something similar EotE. Should give a solid start and a chance to build without panicking.

very solid team, like the defence and the mid but unsure up front. Not sure Jov or Bojan have long term value.

Cheers guys. I can't seem to find any forward that screams fpl points atm. Hope someone reveals themselves at the early stages. Loads of mids that I want, De Jong, Sanchez, Lamela. But these players gave the best opening day fixtures.

Demi - I'd avoid Terry. I honestly think he's the one to avoid in that chelsea backline. Getting on a bit now and Cahill offers a better security of starts (IMO of course!). Everything else looks good - love the Diouf punt. Good fixtures and he's a talented player.

I personally wouldn't spend so little on a striker a as I like the option of being able to switch them easily for another 8.5/9 player (I've gone for Lukaku so he can be easily switched to Bony / Giroud etc. without much effort)

    Midfield excellent though.

If anyone has any comments for my team i'd be very grateful! I'll have a nosey up the page and drop you all some feedback.

    Begovic (Myhill)

Van Aanholt Azpil Chester (Bartley, Ward)

    Siggy Fabregas Mata Sanchez (Albrighton)

    Rooney Dzeko Lukaku

Thanks AZ. Will wait to see if Mourinho gives any clues ahead of the Burnley game then i think.

Fair point about switching to a 9m striker, but i think i'm gonna do that with Costa. Will play Diouf in pretty much all the games at the start.

Solid defence, assuming Bartley becomes 1st choice with Chico leaving. I don't particularly rate their cs chances, but at 4m, you wouldnt care too much about that. Love your strikeforce, i guess you're relying on Lukaku being effective against the big sides, like he was last year. Really good midfield. Wish i could somehow fit Sanchez in

Good plan, i'll be awaiting your lineups with great eagerness!

I am debating a switch of Fabregas & Lukaku --> Eriksen and Costa. Fabregas's game time does worry me a it with so many options in that midfield, and Costa gives a real security of starts I reckon.

I love the midfield a lot and could be a driving force in your team. I would personally have Dzeko over Jovetic for City but I can see the reasons in picking him 🙂

As far as QPR goes who wins out on Remy vs Austin provided Remy stays for a season or at least til January? Have Remy at the moment but thinking of the downgrade to update the defense a little bit

Please rate the missus tinkered line up. It actually outscores mine on RMT... which is a worry

    DDG Gilks
    Debuchy Cahil Ward Wisdom Moore
    Ramsey Hazard Snodgrass Albrighton Davis
    Sturridge Lukaku Rooney

It's big up top, which is clearly how she liks it... (but seriously)

Lukaku is a a player that will frustrate you a few weeks and form varies but the odd GW he blows every-bodies minds with a great final score. Ask yourself is he really worth that or would you want a more consistant point scorer. If Sanchez is played as a wing forward, it could go well for Giroud picking up more goals from assists

I would get Siggy in that mid instead of Snodgrass if you can

Nasiri really should be the player to cut out and downgrade for somebody like Siggy or even Albrighton and upgrade Chester in defense to a more solid player

Love that team. Sorry for just replying if you get to see this. I do see them starting for sure. Jones had great games pre-season and not much good comp. in that position at united. He would be the only nailed CB there even if LvG recruits a defender. Dzeko should start while their is no Negredo. Heres hoping Augero picks up a knock and all they have is Dzeko and Jov 🙂

Thanks and no worries. I made 1 more change by swapping Cameron for Liam Moore from Leicester. I've heard that Cameron isn't a nailed on starter and may be sold. Got 1.0 million in the bank so could either leave it for future transfers or upgrade the defence.

    Szcesny(Krul)
    Jags Vertonghen Cameron Lovren (Vlaar)
    Sanchez Mata Nasri Lamela (Siggy)
    Rooney Long (Fletcher)

Going for a strong mid and defense with one strong striker and two that chip in the odd goals and assists
    Any advice appreciated

Is that premium def. really worth Long as a starter and Flech as a backup up front?

Slightly downgrade both Jags and Lovern by 0.5 or 1.0 each and use that money to get a better striker or downgrade one by 1.0 and downgrade Nasri to a rotation player like Albrighton and start Siggy.. Would really balance the team out. You will still have a strong team in def and mid while having at least one more heavy hitter up front too.. It will work in the long run IMO

    RMT - 343 formation

    Krul (Elliot)

Cameron, Trippier, Clyne, Caulker, Bruce. (looking to rotate between these)

Hazard, Ramsey, Eriksen, Siggy, Albrighton (Albrighton is just going to be on the bench)

Costa, Rooney, Pelle (im looking to keep Pelle, really think he will do well, not sure whether to switch him for jovetic or lukaku though)

I have 2 million left, should i improve on my defence (if so who?) and is it worth putting Ramsey AND sanchez in? Any changes i should make?

I would say it would be worth a punt getting both Ramsey and Sanchez

Upgrade Krul to somebody like Howard or DDG

Not sure on Costa really. If you are then keep him and if you are not downgrade to maybe Dzeko and then use the remaining to upgrade defenders, Trippier and Caulkner would be my picks for the chop to upgrade after said changes
