Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 3 – Sunday

Raheem Sterling is amongst the goals as Liverpool hammer Spurs at the Lane. Andreas Weimann earns a goal and assist as Villa get the better of Hull, while Nikica Jelavic and Leonardo Ulloa grab their second strikes of the season to strengthen our budget forward options. Alexis Sanchez nets for the second match in succession as Arsenal stutter to a draw on the road at Leicester.

Sterling Steers Reds to Victory
The Liverpool youngster bagged his second goal in three appearances as the Reds swept aside Tottenham at the Lane. Fielded behind front two Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli, Sterling – despite failing to pick up bonus in yesterday’s win – has now outscored Sturridge by 22 points to 10 in the opening trio of fixtures and continues to look a real bargain at 8.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). Owned by over 38% of Fantasy managers prior to yesterday’s match, he looks poised for further investment as the Reds brace themselves for a superb run of upcoming fixtures. Elsewhere in the Liverpool midfield, Steven Gerrard’s spot-kick duties helped the skipper gets his goal account off the mark.

Moreno on the Radar
The new boy atoned for an error against City on Monday with a superb showing against Mauricio Pochettino’s team. With Brendan Rodgers opting for a midfield diamond, the Liverpool full-backs were tasked with supplying the width from deep and Moreno’s raiding runs were a real feature of the Merseysiders’ forward forays. At 5.5 in FPL, he’s owned by just 0.2% of managers ahead of four home fixtures (AVL, EVE, WBA, HUL) and trips to West Ham and QPR in the next six.

Eriksen Hauled Off as Tottenham Toil
The Dane lasted just 58 minutes of yesterday’s encounter before making way for Andros Townsend. Overshadowed by Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela in last week’s win over QPR, Eriksen now approaches the international break with just seven points to his name – given that Mauricio Pochettino afforded Chadli and Lamela the full 90 minutes, the Dane’s owners may well decide enough is enough. With just one shot on target over the full 90 minutes yesterday, the hosts are clearly a work in progress under the Argentine.

Villa Front Two Pick up the Points
After serving up back-to-back clean sheets in the first two Gameweeks, most of the Fantasy interest surrounded Villa’s defence for the visit of Hull. Both Andreas Weimann and Gabby Agbonlahor picked up a goal apiece in the 2-1 win over the Tigers, with the young Austrian also picking up an assist and maximum bonus points. Having also scored in Gameweek 1, Weimann is now up to third in the FPL forward standing on 22 points, but with showdowns against all of last term’s top five in the next five Gameweeks, few will be looking to invest in Villa right now.

Jelavic Form Continues
It’s two goals in the last couple of Gameweeks for the Hull frontman after he fired the consolation at Villa Park. Jelavic grabbed the opener against Stoke at the KC last weekend and is starting to suggest he could be another budget frontman worth our consideration – with West Ham, Newcastle and Palace in the next four, the short-term schedule is in his favour.

Sanchez Strikes Again
Having struck the midweek winner against Besiktas, the Chilean was in the goals once again for the Gunners. Handed a role on the left with Yaya Sanogo leading the line, Sanchez is clearly a class act capable of serving up the points, though at 10.4 to Aaron Ramsey’s 9.1, it’s difficult to currently justify the switch until the summer signing reaches full match sharpness. With City, Spurs and Chelsea in the next four, though, few will be looking to invest further in the Gunners until the schedule eases in Gameweek 8.

Ulloa’s Home Comforts
Leicester’s summer signing netted for the second match in succession at the King Power Stadium as Nigel Pearson’s side picked up an invaluable point against the Gunners. Ulloa also struck in the Gameweek 1 home draw with Everton, and while strike partner David Nugent continues to struggle, the Argentine has wasted no time in settling in the top-flight. At 5.5, Ulloa is another budget striker making a mockery of his price tag and has shown he’s more than capable of delivering against some of the most resilient backlines around. It’s also worth noting that Jeffrey Schlupp – a 4.5-priced defender – started on the left wing and provided the assist for Ulloa’s header.

Think its fair to say that this is the most important season in united's history (at least in the modern era). There is no way di maria, falcau, rvp and possibly even rooney will go two seasons without CL football. If they don't get 4th they will be consigned to the wilderness Scholes spoke about recently as all top players will be permanently out of reach. Even with only the league to concentrate on I dont think they are going to do it. They had nearly a years notice that their top defenders were leaving and they did nothing. That is what I think will come back to haunt them.

Letting Vidic leave will haunt them, he easily had two more seasons in him.

van Persie possibly needs an op and Welbeck and Hernandez are on the way out, we did need another striker.

Blind and Herrera will massively improve the midfield and it wouldn't surprise me if we were in for Strootman in Jan.

Agree the defence is a mess, who knows what might happen today though.

The last few months have served yet another reminder of what a sad state of affairs football is in. People in less developed countries dying of starvation and diseases that could be easily treated, while at the same time a club £150 million for the service of a few sportsmen, financed by ridiculous TV deals. Not to mention the 'smaller' clubs who don't stand a chance any more. Sad truth is there will never ever be another Derby of 1972. Football really is all about money now, there's no getting around it, and while it is exciting as a United fan to have world class players signings, every million spent makes fall a little more out of love with the Premier League. This is not the game I used to fantasise about playing as a kid in the playground.

There we go, serious post over, you can all go back to discussing how much Falcao will be and "LOLing @ arsenal fans"

I do have to agree that the money is insane.

Sometimes I wish they had a policy of 50% of transfer fees went into charitable causes and scientific research. It is a sad state of affairs.

But then I suppose a lot of players are involved in charitable causes and even have their own charitable foundations so there is some good.

'People in less developed countries dying of starvation and diseases'...

Oh please shut up now...football actually plays a huge part in providing enjoyment to such people. Why don't you take the moral high ground with countries who are spending trillions, yes trillions of dollars on weapons and military expenditure. The fee's in football are literally 0.00000001% compared to space programs and pointless wars. Yet you don't see fit to question those? Also you forget that most countries will tax 50% of wages, so where do you think 100k of Falcoas wage will go? In the pocket of Cameron and co, who will then no doubt waste it instead of redistributing it to the poor as is intended...but i guess its still all footballs fault ay?

thats completely irrelevant. of course money is spent on military, what do you expect? all I'm saying is that football has become a farce - its not about the game anymore, its just about lining the pockets of some oli-tycoon billionaire owner and his agent
