Watchlist

The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 4

With Wildcards in play we’ve updated our Watchlist rankings ahead of Saturday’s deadline to offer a view on our mid-term player recommendations. As always, you can locate the full rankings by position in your right-hand menu.

The big movers can be found at the back, with the fixture schedule swinging wildly in favour of a number of teams, promoting their defensive assets. The likes of Liverpool, Stoke and Southampton all face a run of opponents which look set to offer ample opportunity to add to their clean sheet quota.

While Villa’s Brad Guzan has been the most popular keeper pick going into Gameweek 4, his evil schedule of fixtures suggests that Paul Lambert’s defence will struggle to maintain their early-season form. For our money, you’ll need to spend more over the next six Gameweeks to secure a stopper likely to bring in points – namely Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet, Stoke’s Asmir Begovic or Southampton’s Fraser Forster. Vito Manonne could offer value with an improved array of fixtures to come, while QPR’s Alex McCarthy is undboutedly one to watch given his 4.0 Fantasy Premier League price tag and propensity to pick up save points: he could be the only active first choice stopper in the 4.0 bracket if he debuts at Old Trafford.

While Branislav Ivanovic rightly remains rooted at top spot in our defender rankings, Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne edge him close. In both cases, there are clear alternatives: Alberto Moreno and Ryan Bertrand are available in the same price bracket and should certainly be considered.

Elsewhere, we see the next six Gameweeks as the perfect window to take a chance on the attacking talents of Burnley’s Kieran Trippier. With 12 assists in Burnley’s promotion sesason, we’re expecting a spell where he emerges as a genuine option for our backlines and, given the Clarets run of fixtures, we could be set to flourish.

In midfield, Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling makes the climb to the summit with strong fixtures and form ensuring that he creeps ever closer to “essential” status. Aaron Ramsey’s knock in last night’s international seems him suffer a slight dent, although the latest noises suggest he’ll line up against City at the weekend.

Elsewhere, Southampton’s Dusan Tadic continues his ascent as he goes on recording statistics that suggest that consistent returns could be around the corner. He certainly has the fixtures to thrive.

There’s an array of lower priced talent to be considered, with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha ousting Jason Puncheon as our weapon of choice at Selhurst Park. Tottenham’s Nacer Chadli, Sunderland’s Seb Larsson and Burnley’s George Boyd complete a cast that offer clear differentials as fourth and fifth midfield options.

There’s a degree of uncertainty up front, with the likes of Diego Costa and Daniel Sturridge nursing injuries. The latter drops out of our reckoning to be replaced by the cheaper and more “secure” Mario Balotelli, while our confidence in Costa is strong enough to see him maintained at the top of the rankings: we’ve already seen him recover from one “hamstring injury” to devastating effect.

There’s no place as yet for United’s Radamel Falcao, with Wayne Rooney still preferred as our Old Trafford striker – that situation will undoubtedly be questioned following Falcao’s debut, when we’ll have more clues on Louis van Gaal’s preferred set-up.

Arsenal’s new capture Danny Welbeck and Southampton’s target man, Graziano Pelle, share a price bracket and an ability to add effective differentials to our squads: we’re tipping both for strong returns in the next four to six Gameweeks. Indeed, with Steven Naismith, Mame Diouf and Leonardo Ulloa all making effective starts to the campaign and staking claims for our consideration over the next month, it’s clear that a big spend in attack is currently not a necessity.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Still have Rooney and Mata. No FT. Costa & Ramsey now doubts... tempted to pull the wildcard trigger?

    Worth it?

(Can't see how Mata gets in the same 11 as RVP, Roo, Falcao & Di Maria.... He'll be benched won't he?)

Cheers! Want to replace Mata & Roo with city / arse - but not when they're playing each other, and preferably not for the next 3-4 game weeks!

Balotelli is the real tease though... Looked v good against Spurs, another day could've had a hat trick

It's a bad time to sell Rooney, his price just dropped to 10.4 and he's a guaranteed starter for Man Utd.

Just checking to see if I'm good to go for this week (pending injuries ofc). Right captain choice?

    Courtois
    Clyne Colo Moore
Hazard (c) Ramsey Mata Sterling Siggy
    Aguero Adebayor

Subs: Gilks, Vaz Te, PVA, Wisdom.

2 yellow flags (Hazard and Ramsey). They'll be fine yes?

    A) If Sturridge is out for a while, Aguero (despite the two tough fixtures) a good replacement, or downgrade to Balotelli/Welbeck?

    B) Which defender for 5.0? Looking at Alderweireld, Bertrand, Janmaat, Rose. Have Begovic so won't double up with a Stoke defender.

        B.

Liverpool's fixtures over the next few look very strong with regards to defensive returns, Ivanovic would have to score goals every week to justify his price if Chelsea concede the way they have been.

Welbeck to become the main point of attack for an attacking get side while no one really expects Naismith to keep this up and go from a squad player to one of the most feared strikers in the league based on goals in the first 3 games.

Some statos should pull up Giroud's missed chances from last year to see the real potential of Welbeck.

Hazard has never been consistent, Fabregas has always been consistent, nothing has happened this season to show otherwise.

      Krul - Gilks

Duff - Caulker - Chester - van Aanholt - Terry

I think you spent too much in defense. Get the QPR 4.0 keeper, might play. Don't like one player in your forward line unfortunately.

Shame, taking all that on board would be a WC. Safe to say GK isn't priority, think my defence spending is okay but I agree with you on my forwards. Not inspired by Rooney or Dzeko but Naismith is good value. Jovetic injury is leaving me with a little patience for Dzeko but not convinced Rooney will find form any time soon. I'm also pretty annoyed with Eriksen right now.

It's getting worse, houses/mortgages are 8x times annual pay. So both parents have to pay the mortgage.

My parents got a mortgage for 2.5 times their annual pay. That's why the private debt has soared, the younger generation have to get huge amounts to buy a house

My opinion of it (though nobody agrees) is that the younger generation buy the houses from the elder generation on average. Systematically. So you can tell what people want with prices by one word: age. The younger gen want prices to fall, the elder gen want prices to stay high.

There was no supply, the elder gen tried to keep prices high and both new mum and dad wanted to invest into their house meaning houses are 8x wage.

You are absolutely correct. This is the main reason why it is important to get young people to vote.

Our generation have so.d the younger ones up the river with this housing lark...and no danger.

Well, the solution is really very simple.

                1. Build 150k houses per year.
                2. Reverse the decision to sell OFF Council stock, and ADD too it steadily instead.
                3. Regulate the rental market.

Consequence: There will be a mild property crash, much needed.

                4. Install a law for the compulsory purchase of all and any brownfield sites,at a predetermined rate.
                5. Up the building programme to 225k houses per year.

Problem is there is more demand for houses, even if the houses were built. Older people are trying to invest their pension pots into houses further increasing the demand and prices of houses

Tax second house ownership at a higher level to pay for more housing.

                    Oh, yes, I forgot -

2a. Reintroduce Rates - ie a yearly tax on the size of the property.

21st Century slavery is about what it amounts to. You get halfway through and the interest rates go up ten percent and you're stuffed.

That's why interest rates can't go up. Mortgages will struggle

funny how ppl can use that 0.1m fall to justify their decision..in fact its just a game..no need to try to convince anyone about your own decision to do this n this lol.

      Bench ONE please:

      A. Ramsey
      B. Sigurdsson
      C. Naismith

I'm thinking Ramsey. Tough fixture, may not be 100%, Dortmund midweek.
      Thoughts?
Other players are Costa, Rooney, Sterling, Lamela, Fabregas.

      Thanks.

      Just wildcarded to this team:

      Krul (McCarthy)

Moreno - Clyne - Wilson (Moore - Hutton)

Sterling - Ramsey - Siggy - Ben Arfa (Aarons)

      Falcao - Costa - Aguero.

I know it's punty. But it's fun. No?
