Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – Sturridge Injury Fears Rise

Daniel Sturridge seems poised to miss out for Liverpool this weekend according to the Merseyside press. Emmanuel Adebayor is in the goals for Togo, Southampton’s new boy Sadio Mane strikes again for Senegal, Wilfried Bony faces a late return to training after international duties, whilst Geoff Cameron is sidelined after undergoing hernia surgery for Stoke.

STURRIDGE INJURY CONCERNS MOUNT

Reports suggest that Daniel Sturridge could be sidelined for two to three weeks with the thigh injury he sustained in training whilst on international duty with England last week.

The Scout Says: Whilst there is still no official word from Liverpool on the matter, the fact that over 114,000 managers have already chosen to offload Sturridge this Gameweek suggests that is a mere technicality for some. The proposed absence would see Sturridge miss Saturday evening’s clash with Aston Villa and next weekend’s trip to West Ham, and leave the striker in a race to be fit for the Merseyside derby at the end of the month. In contrast to the England man, team-mate Mario Balotelli has received plenty of investment leading up to this weekend’s deadline, and confirmation of Sturridge’s absence could spark a massive bandwagon and see that investment increase pointedly. Given a chance to play in his preferred role through the middle, Balotelli could find his feet at his new club quicker than expected, though Brendan Rogers does have another alternative to consider – Rickie Lambert, yet to start for Liverpool since his summer move, is a ready-made replacement for Sturridge as a centre forward, and, if given the opportunity, the 7.2 priced target man could prove a canny short-term acquisition for Fantasy managers whilst his team-mate recovers.

ADEBAYOR’S GOAL NOT ENOUGH FOR TOGO

Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor scored his side’s second goal in their 3-2 loss to Ghana yesterday evening in their second African Cup of Nations qualifying match. The striker pulled his side level in the 77th minute with a powerful header, only for Everton’s Christian Atsu to score a late winner for Ghana and leave Togo winless in their two games thus far.

The Scout Says: Last night’s result shines favourably on Adebayor’s Fantasy potential in more ways than one. Not only will his goal give him some momentum heading into this weekend’s trip to Sunderland with Spurs, but the fact that Togo have now lost both their opening games means there is already a good chance they won’t qualify for ACoN, which, subsequently, would mean that Adebayor won’t go AWOL in January. With home encounters against West Brom and Southampton to come in Spurs’ next four, and the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Romelu Lukaku currently injury doubts going into this Gameweek, the 8.6-priced Adebayor is one of the few forwards in his price range to have any real allure right now, and the Tottenham man will be keen to spark a return to form for his side this weekend after their heavy defeat at the hands of Liverpool last time out.

MANE ON THE GOAL TRAIL

Southampton’s deadline day signing Sadio Mane scored his second goal of the international break as his Senegal side ran out 2-0 victors over Botswana in their ACoN qualifier.

The Scout Says: Mane is now firmly on our radars as the Saints face a quintet of kind fixtures, including four at home, in their next six (NEW, swa, QPR, tot, SUN, STO) that offer the midfielder a great chance of building on his current form. At 7.0, the winger is more budget friendly than fellow new boys Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle (both 7.5) and his direct style on the left wing could bring a new dynamic to Ronald Koeman’s side in the coming weeks as they look to add another win to their tally after Gameweek 3’s 3-1 triumph against West Ham. One to monitor for sure.

Bony Set for Late Return to Training

Wilfried Bony is not expected to return to training with Swansea until Friday due to his commitments with Ivory Coast, meaning that Bafetimbi Gomis may be handed his first league start for Swans in this Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

The Scout Says: Can Garry Monk really do without his first choice striker for the visit of Stamford Bridge? Whilst the Swans boss has previously underlined his faith in Gomis’ ability, and his intention to give the Frenchman plenty of football this season, an away match against Jose Mourinho’s men will hardly have been what Monk would have had in mind. That said, Bony has hardly lived up to his 8.5 price tag so far this season, with not one goal or assist to his name after three appearances, and were Gomis to grab his chance on Saturday afternoon, he may well edge ahead of his teammate in Monk’s thoughts for Gameweek 5’s clash with Southampton.

SURGEY REQUIRED FOR CAMERON

USA international Geoff Cameron finally underwent a hernia operation yesterday after being plagued by the problem since the back end of last season and is now due to miss at least another fortnight of action for Stoke. The Potters did receive some positive news, however, after it was confirmed that Stephen Ireland and Oussama Assaidi are stepping up their recoveries from injury – assistant manager Mark Bowen clarified why Stoke have been cautious with Assaidi since his deadline day loan move from Liverpool:

“He’s been training all week and looked good. We are taking things easy with him because he hasn’t had a pre-season. But everything we’ve thrown at him in training he has come through.”

The Scout Says: With Cameron now definitely sidelined for the near future, Phil Bardsley looks nailed on at right-back for the Potters. The former Sunderland man demonstrated his potential for attacking returns with an assist in Gameweek 2 and could prove a decent differential in light of Stoke’s superb upcoming fixtures (LEI, qpr, NEW, sun, SWA). The imminent return of Ireland and Assaidi, meanwhile, looks set to up the competition for places further up the field, though Mark Hughes seems likely to stick with the starting XI that walked away from the Etihad with a shock victory last time out for this Saturday’s encounter with Leicester, meaning that the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Bojan Krkic may have to make do with bench-warming duties once again.

Alan Pardew has lost as many Tyne-Wear derbies as the previous 22 #NUFC managers combined!! 😯

    RMWCT:

    Begovic
    Clyne - Jones - Manquilo
    Mané - Silva - Fabregas - Sterling
    Welbeck - Balotelli - Costa

    Elliot - Sigurdsson - Duff - Moore

    Think I'm looking pretty strong...
    I think...

Begovic and Clyne should keep clean sheets galore over the next 10.
        So should Jones and Manquilo...

Jones is injured, Manquilo not nailed on, Duff not nailed on, Moore 4m bench fodder.
I agree that Clyne is good.

Jones should have kept clean sheets galore already, likewise Manquilo and Begovic should have more than they do, based purely on their fixtures. Doesn't guarantee anything.

Looking very good. I would probably get Tadic/Mirallas/Zaha instead of Mane. Whats your backup plan for Balotelli if he fails?

      1. rossjukesonline

Clyne and Begovic should storm through their fixtures.
        No money to upgrade Manquilo.
No back-up plan 0.0m in bank.

        If Balotelli/Welbeck flop - I flop.

Wildcard active. If Costa is ruled out against Swans is it complitely madness to sell him for Rooney/Balotelli and get him back when fit again?

Lack of price movement makes him easy to get back.

Or is it better to keep him and have good 5th mid as coverage if doesnt feature?

Now Costa is £10.6, the selling price is still £10.5 - so just make sure you have the 0.1m required to buy him back.

Hey guys. So it looks like I need a plan for Jovetic out tomorrow. I'm also getting Sterling, so I've narrowed it down to 8.7M or under:

    A) Welbeck
    B) Adebayor
    C) Pelle

Currently leaning towards Ade, he's got the FPL pedigree, decent stats and pens in his locker. Thoughts?

+1. I've always thought 3 big strikers up front once Aguero is the go-to-guy, but with the action we're seeing in the midfield that's perhaps very unrealistic. Rooney might have to go for Aguero, making Welbeck a better pick long-term... and I'm usually all about long-term 🙂

Is my team pretty well set up for the next 5-6 weeks or do I need to rethink?

    Begovic (Gilks)
    Moreno Clyne Wilson (Hutton)(Wisdom)

    Welbeck Costa Falcao

I'd have a bit more money up front even if you want to play 3-5-2. Just think that if you wanna get someone like Falcao or Aguero in then it will take 3 transfers to do it.

I agree, it's a problem but if I can manage to save a transfer it will only cost me -4 and it gives me time to assess if any of them are actually worth their inflated price tags.
I'm happy enough captaining Costa or Sterling each week depending on fixtures.

Got 2.0 itb to upgrade Naismith to Welbeck or Falcao to Kun etc. should I just get Welbeck in now? (I got him in before price rise)

considerin my bench consists of Debuchy(MCY), Albrighton(non starter), Hutton(liv).. if we get no more news on Ramsey.. would you swap Ramsey for Fabregas for a hit OR Albrighton to Zaha(bench ramsey) for a hit.. or just play Ramsey and hope for the best?

Played my wc, what does everyone think...

    Bego (Myhill)
    Clyne, Azpi, Jones (Wisdom, Duff)
Di Maria, Sterling, Siggy, Fabregas (King)
    Aguero, Costa, Naismith

Looking to get jones out if he's injured any suggestions on replacements?

    Thanks

I've doggedly held onto my WC despite the yellow flag convention and starting doubts in my squad (*)

    Krul Foster*
    Cahill Bruce* Jones* Chambers* Moore
    Ramsey* Siggy Mata* Eriksen Albrighton
    Costa* Rooney Jovetic*

At worst, I can field only 7. I expect to field 9. Any suggestions? Have 1FT and 1.1 ITB

Jovetic to Welbeck if Jovetic confirmed out
Jones to Lovren if Jones is out
Ramsey to Sterling if Ramsey is out

So a -4 to field a full team, -8 to be sure.

    Begovic Krul

    Shaw Clyne Lovren Azipul Wisdom

Di Maria Sterling Fabregas Tadic Siggy

    Costa Welbeck Naismith

Looks solid if Wenger hadnt just announced that a) Welbeck might not play and b) He wouldnt have signed him if he wasnt off watching the pope play football!

    DOES IT WORK!?

    THANKS

Why would you care if Welbeck doesn't start, you have cover for him.

Even if he doesn't play this week he will be a regular starter - they don't have anyone else and Arsenal don't spend £16m on a deadline day bench player.

i know that makes sense. but Wenger has said he wouldnt have signed him. he literally wouldnt be at the club, and that he isnt sure who will play this week.

i dont like the sound of it.

    Here is my current team:

    Krul(Mannone)
    Pieters, Lovren, Jones (Wisdom, Vlaar)
    Henderson, Ramsey, Silva, Fabregas (Siggy)
    Sturridge, Costa, Naismith

So with 5 players injured, what should I do? Have no FT
    A) Keep my team
    B) Take the wildcard
    C) Sell Sturridge for balotelli

C, it'll earn you decent TV. you can't afford to keep Sturridge when Balotelli is cheaper and nailed right now. With Sturridge out it will probably mean a switch to 4231 so Balo will drop-off less too which means he'll be poaching plenty of tap-ins.

          Well in that case.

Di Maria is your best bet.

Welbeck should play but wengers comments scare me.

zaha im not sure about but FFS community are loving him.

Falcao i would love to see rip it up but might not be ready this quick.

Balotelli & Di Maria if you can

The thing with Di Maria, he can only get assists if United can score. Which at the moment is rarely
Same fears with you over Welbeck, but Sanogoal is a waster
I'm seeing lots of love for Zaha as well. Warnock seems to like him and I can see him playing.
Falcao is Falcao, he scores goals. Not sure how many minutes he will get the next day though.

di Maria and Welbeck, purely based on the fact that I think Falcao is money-grabbing mercenary and Zaha is a party-boy tosspot. Or do personal opinions not affect fantasy football?

I like Falcao. I see him as an unsung hero. Always getting teams to the champions league then moving on to help another team in need 🙂

Any value players in UCL fantasy game in midfield?

    My team is

    Moya Obradovic
    Evra Moreno Durm Cahil Denswil
    Kroos Cesc Rofles Faizulin Nasimento
    Ibra Messi Cr7

    and have 1.5 ITB.

I want to upgrade my bench or one of Rofles/Faizulin. I don't like my midfield very much and my bench is also weak. Basically, I have 12 playable players from 15.

    Any suggestions?

That front line is awesome, do not make any changes which mean down-grading that.
I'm not playing the game but if Kroos is premium mid then he isn't great value, and Cesc might not get much UCL gametime given their group is so easy and their Prem fixtures around the UCL fixtures are much tougher meaning Mou will mostly use him in PL IMO - same for Cahill.

Hey guys, any recommendations. 0.9 in the bank.
    Help appreciated!

    Krul,
    Terry, Chambers, Caulker
    Ramsey, Sterling, Siggy, Mata,
    Ronney Costa, Pelle

Subs: Myhill, Caulker, Bruce, A Young

With the 0.9 Was thinking one of the folowing
    1. Terry to Ivana (too much a sideways move?)
    2. Mata - Fabregas
    3. Ronney/Costa - Falcao
    4. Pelle - Naismith (free up some funds?)
