The Weekend Team News

Seamus Coleman is expected to shrug off a knock as Everton entertain Palace. Ron Vlaar remains doubtful as Villa prepare for the visit of Arsenal. Danny Ings is ruled out of Burnley’s home clash with Sunderland, Jon Walters and Marko Arnautovic are doubts as Stoke travel to QPR, while Martin Skrtel is back as Liverpool roll up to West Ham.

Seamus Coleman was forced off with a knock in Everton’s win over Wolfsburg last night but Roberto Martinez is confident the right-back will recover in time for Sunday’s visit of Palace.

Callum Chambers has recovered from the illness that forced him out of the XI to face Dortmund, Arsene Wenger has confirmed. Mathieu Flamini is also available, whilst Jack Wilshere “is okay” after picking up an ankle problem during the 2-0 defeat. The Gunners boss has also revealed Mathieu Debuchy will be out for a minimum of six weeks with an ankle injury, though could be sidelined for three months if he requires surgery.

Jon Walters (calf) and Marko Arnautovic (foot) are both concerns for Stoke’s trip to QPR, Mark Hughes has confirmed. The former has only just returned to training after picking up a knock, though Stephen Ireland is pushing for a recall after recovering from a rib problem.

Harry Redknapp has revealed QPR have “a few knocks” ahead of the home clash against Stoke. Joey Barton (hamstring) and Jordon Mutch (knock) will continue to be assessed, though Adel Taarabt is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Ronald Koeman has revealed new signing Sadio Mane has finally received a work permit and will arrive in Southampton tomorrow, though is unlikely to be ready in time to face QPR. Shane Long has recovered from the knock that forced him off against Newcastle last weekend.

Danny Ings has been ruled out of Burnley’s home clash with sunderland this weekend, with manager Sean Dyche refusing to put a timescale on his return. Matty Taylor is unavailable for the second successive Gameweeks and joins long-term absentee Sam Vokes on the sidelines.

Villa skipper Ron Vlaar remains a major doubt for the visit of Arsenal due to a calf complaint. Christian Benteke has returned to light training but is believed to be weeks away from a return to first-team action as Paul Lambert looks to protect his star striker. Joe Cole is also back in training, though is “a little bit behind on fitness levels”, according to his manager.

Kasper Schmeichel is expected to recover from the minor knee problem that saw him miss last weekend’s trip to Stoke, while Matty James is also in contention after recovering from injury to feature for the Under-21s on Monday.

Martin Skrtel is back for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham, though Joe Allen is out “for a few weeks”, according to Brendan Rodgers. The Reds boss expects Daniel Sturridge to return to training next week, though young Jon Flanagan is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.

Sam Allardyce has confirmed he has the same squad that travelled to Hull on Monday, an indication that Joey O’Brien will miss out again as the Hammers play host to Liverpool.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

Fully expecting Falcao to start this weekend.

RVP looked a spent force last week.

Percentage chance of a Falcao start?

      50/50 to hard to call.
LvG could keep the same team as last week and just change Rojo CB & Shaw LB
RvP could start with Falcao and Roo in the hole
or as you say RvP could be dropped.

Just think Rooney in the hole makes more sense against a Leicester team that are effective on the break. Mata seems too risky given the criticism around his defensive capability

Rooney will track back and get stuck in regardless 😉
personally I think we'll keep the same team as last week with the exception of Rojo/Shaw.

Rooney isn't intelligent enough to play in the hole in a LVG system imo.

Great tekkers, but he's no silva/fabregas.

True, but playing as a mid behind Mata & the fwds what do you expect.
I think the bookies are basing his goal threat on set pieces.

I'm prepared to give him time, with 2 goals conceded last game at home I could see him coming back in to the squad. A good defensive performance and I think he'll keep his place and Bruce will keep the system.

Nick, Rooney or Costa for (c)? Currently on Costa, which is weird because I'm usually a fixture man. His form is just hard to ignore, as well as being "rested" midweek.

    Captain aguero or costa?
I usually cheat and go with the bookies odds:
    Aguero anytime 2.20, 2 or more 7.00
    Costa anytime 2.50, 2 or more 9.00.

    So leaning towards aguero...

My current squad for GW5, any improvements? Got 0FT and £1.1m spare. On 253 points so far.

    De Gea (Mannone)
Bertrand - Ivanovic - Clyne (Wisdom, Cameron)
Ramsay - Siggurdson - Sterling - Eriksen - Ward Prowse
    Costa - Rooney (Bojan)

Also who should my captain be for GW5? Many thanks in advance.

Cameron, JWP and Bojan the obvious weak links.

I'm not a fan of how much of your budget is stored in GK either. I think if you have a keeper of £5m or above you should be going for a one keeper strategy.

    Sterling, Chadli, Sig, Herrera (Boyd)

    Aguero, Costa, Adebayor

Am I 2 light in midfield, or am I just thinking that cause it’s not that expensive and doesn’t have the big hitters, on paper?

Ineresting topic I just thought of with team selection:

Do you hedge your bets? or play for maximum points?
    two scenarios come to mind

    1) Play a goalie/defender from the same club? or bench the defender to spread out your coverage of fixtures. GW4 Example: Play Krul/Collocini (better fixture), or Krul/Clyne (better form).

    2) Do you play defenders that are matched up against your attacking players?
GW4 Example: You own Neil Taylor & Pelle. Do you play them both? Or do you bench one to achieve the "maximum possible points"?

I know people who do both, and people who say it depends. Interested in everyone's thoughts 🙂

My thoughts haven't changed in the last couple of years: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/3436983

Basically I try to consider each player in a vacuum and disregard the other selections I've made.

      And yes, nice topic 🙂

      1) Not a fan of hedging bets. Its either all in or all out. If you think the team in question is likely to get a clean sheet then by all means, start both those defenders.

      2) For me this depends. Generally I tend to ignore whether they are playing each other but sometimes its impossible to ignore if I have say 5 or 6 players involved in the same game. Some teams are also more defensive minded than others and then there are the premium assets and they can't be benched.

The pool of bonus points is the same size in every game... so I consider that if I have five players in one game.

      Nice post.

      1. I don't mind doubling up on defense/gk. Currently don't have any such doubles though. They have been good to me in the past.

      2. I do try to avoid having defenders going against attackers. Sigurdsson vs Clyne this week is a good example. My thinking is that I will bench Clyne, though I know it is not without risks. The way I see it, avoiding attackers going against defenders in my own team should give about the same expected value, but with a higher standard deviation... i.e. same average score, but more chances of either a big haul or a complete failure.

domers12 Need a bit of advice on my team lads please :

    Starting XI Speroni,

    Terry, Caulker, Fonte,

    Ramsey, Fabregas, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Silva

    Rooney, Jovetic

Subs : Myhill, Bojan, Dummett, Bruce.

Haver 2 free transfers available this week.

Need to try get in Costa and Di Maria but will need to sacrafice two mids due to price.

Or Maybe Chadli in mid for Silva

Hernandez (Hull up top) for Jovetic

    Need Costa though surely..

What you think guys ? Who to be captain too ??
