The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 8

Our Watchlist rankings, which offer player recommendations over the next four to six Gameweeks, have been updated over the last 24 hours.

Between the sticks, West Ham’s Adrian is on the up after collecting his first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 7. The Hammers face a trip to Burnley this weekend, and with their opponents having only scored in one of their last six, the 5.0-priced Spaniard could be set for further returns come Saturday afternoon. Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny also climbs the rankings due to Calum Chambers’ one-match suspension and the injury doubts hanging over Laurent Koscielny in the Gunners’ defence.

With excellent fixtures ahead for Arsene Wenger’s side (HUL, sun, BUR, swa), their backline looks set to prosper in spite of current form (it’s only one shut-out so far this season for a defence that accumulated 17 clean sheets last term), and Per Mertesacker – as their most nailed-on rearguard option right now – comes into our defensive standings as a result.

Joining team-mate Adrian in rising up our rankings is Hammers centre back James Tomkins, whose attacking threat has already earned his owners two assists up to this point. Across the way at Tottenham, meanwhile, Younes Kaboul climbs to just below Tomkins thanks to his kind fixtures from Gameweek 9 onwards (NEW, avl, STK, hul).

Jeffrey Schlupp is a new entry at the back thanks to his out-of-position prospects – the Leicester man is available for just 4.5 and was utilised on the left wing in the Foxes’ last league fixture, bagging his first goal of the season in the process. Another defender prospering due to their out-of-position status is Hull’s Andrew Robertson. Like Schlupp, he is on offer for just 4.5 ,and though his next three fixtures are rather tough (ars, liv, SOU), his strong form and position on the left of midfield in the Tigers’ 3-5-2 formation brings him into contention.

There is little movement in midfield, where Raheem Sterling holds on to the top spot, with Fantasy Premier League midfield frontrunners Gylfi Sigurdsson (sto, LEI, eve, ARS, mci) and Angel Di Maria (wba, CHE, mci, CRY, ars) only failing to climb due to their tricky schedules. The likes of Jordan Henderson (6.0), Saido Mane (6.9) and James Milner (5.3) continue to bubble under as mid-price differentials and cheaper alternatives to their team-mates further up the rankings – all three have strong fixtures to boost their points potential.

Daniel Sturridge is the big addition to our rankings up front. The Liverpool striker is likely to be eased back into action after recovering from a thigh injury, but as he proved against Southampton in Gameweek 1, needs little time to introduce himself. The 11.3-priced England man has enticing fixtures against QPR, Hull and Newcastle to find his feet and could prove an outstanding differential in the coming weeks.

Danny Welbeck is the main mover in our forward standings and now sits just below the template trio of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Sergio Aguero. Though he has picked up returns in one of his four appearances in an Arsenal shirt, the lack of clear options in the Gunners’ midfield right now ensures that Welbeck, at a mere 7.3, is their main attacking asset for the moment – reports indicate he’s set to return to training after shrugging off the knock picked up on England duty. Should Alexis Sanchez begin to justify his 10.3 price tag and Theo Walcott quickly readjust to life in the Premier League upon his return from injury next week, both are likely to be elevated in next week’s refresh.

    would you get Coleman instead of Baines if it means you could get Guzan ?

    I'll be 0.1m short of Guzan if i went for Baines.

    Anyone else worried about having mostly away players this week. Out of Sterling, Fab, Siggy and Di Maria I'm worried by a lack of pts coming from them.

    Sterling may be rested or brought off early, Siggy may blank against Stoke away. Fab might be sitting deep. Di Maria is the player i think will do best.

    Maybe time to take out siggy for a week for a nice home player with a nice fixture?

      Siggy has been in great formusic

      If Swansea scores he'll most likely in the scorING

      Stoke hasn't been that sound defensively though. Add to the fact that Siggy seems to be finding his goal scoring form with Iceland, personally I don't think that's a wise move.

      The only player in a similar price bracket that I'd rate is Chadli, and Spurs is facing City this week.

        Thought about bringing in Berahinho for Gayle. But would mean I'd have to drop one of Costa, Welbeck, Sanchez, Sterling ,Siggy, Fab or Di Maria.

        I like Berahino, he reminds me of Jermaine Defoe with his pace and finishing. On Penalties too.

        Best to not do it right??

      90% of people will be in the same boat, differentials in defence and strikers will get a good rank this gameweek..Thats why im tempted to captain Aguero instead of the popular Costa pick

    For those who are interested. Theres a lot of misprinting in the press and online this morning including BBC. Despite having a better goal difference Scotland are currently ranked behind Germany in Euro 2016 Qualifying because of the head to head. The tiebreakers are as follows -

    1 - Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
    2 - Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;
    3 - Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
    4 - Higher number of goals scored away from home in the matches played between the teams in question;
    5 - If, after having applied criteria 1 to 4, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 4 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 6 to 10 apply;
    6 - Superior goal difference in all group matches;
    7 - Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
    8 - Higher number of away goals scored in all group matches;
    9 - Fair play conduct in all group matches (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a consequence of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card);
    10 - Position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system;

    Scoring two goals in Poland last could prove vital if we're held at Hampden 0-0 or 1-1. This group is wide open and I am buzzing. We must win our home games !!

      Ireland got an away pt in Germany, Poland beat Germany. Unless the Scots equal these kind of feats it will be tough for Scotland.

      Next months game v Ireland is vital, think it will be a draw personally.

        We were unlucky not to get a point in Germany and have an away point with Poland if we can win our home games we will be in a good position.

          Unlucky to not get a point still means 0 points. I hope Scotland go through with Ireland. But Poland have the best striker in the group and will be battling hard.

          Ideal situation would be Germany miss out. Would laugh my head off it it happened.

    Anyone reckon that Walcott would start gw 10 vs Burnley at home?

    Looks like the ideal game to give him a start. 2 sub appearances in gw 8 and 9 and then a start at home vs an easy opposition.

    Morning all, general question on WC tactics please: Is it ever worth modifying your preferred draft for a fixture, and changing back with a free transfer the following week?

    For example, I'm happy with my WC draft below, but given Chadli's fixture and now injury doubt, would it be smarter to start with, say Hendo or Tadic this week, and transfer back to Chadli next week? Or, is it always better to lock in your preferred line up and just use the bench to cover such probs? (Happy with the Chadli pick and made my choice long term, just questioning wisdom of doing such a WC shuffle - thanks!)

    Guzan/Foster
    Baines, Bertie, Azpi, Duff, Moore
    Sterling, ADM, Siggy, Chadli, Boyd
    Aguero, Costa, Wellbeck

    Apparently Toure a doubt for city game.
    Not expected back from africa until 24 hours before tottenham game, then on sunday they fly off to Moscow

    Many of the city players including aguero have clocked up some serious airmiles this week. Jetlag sure to be a factor, as will an early kick off on saturday and in moscow on tuesday.

    Spurs will never get a better chance to roll them , and im wondering if an Aguero to Cisse move could be a cunning plan

              Diame is I think.

              They have Ba and Sakho as well so hopefully there is rotation.

          Was thinking of sticking with Dzeko. Rafa to Baines is certain.

      Who would you trade out of fabregas and sterling for downing/henderson so that I can get Baines for Van aanholt and Forster for Krul

        None of those trades are worth an 8 point hit imo.

          not for a hit. Im saving a free trade this week so I have 2 next week and then Krul to Forster the week after

            If you're thinking of getting Forster in for GW10, you'd be better with someone like Guzan. Southampton's fixtures turn south GW13.
