The Community Round Up

After three rounds of fixtures in just seven days, there has been a flurry of transfer activity as Fantasy managers look to freshen up their festive squads. We look back at the emerging template team following that trio of Gameweeks and also catch up on the impact on our community leagues. Once again, we showcase the latest Members tables and find out first-hand just how fast Raheem Sterling is.

The Community Articles

Jarvis was crowned Community Champion for Gameweek 14’s Scout Picks, and managed to beat one out of three of the Scouts. Gameweek 13’s champion Beavis was even more successful, becoming the first to beat all three of us.  Meanwhile, Kurren won the honour of representing the community for this weekend’s matches and will be hoping for similar success.

Of Arvination’s trio of attacking punts for Gameweek 14, Kevin Mirallas was his only successful pick. The Puntmaster failed to replicate his Gameweek 13 success – where he tipped Glen Johnson – none of his Gameweek 14 picks paid off, sadly. He’ll be needing a better performance from his Gameweeek 15 trio to ensure his magical soothsaying  reputation remains intact.

Finally, SC Not Pearls Before Swine drafted this excellent round up of the best four mid-price options in midfield.

Please remember to vote in our latest monthly top article competition. To vote for your favourite in November, leave the name of the community article in the replies to this hot topic. The winner of this illustrious honour also receives a £25 voucher.

The Hottest Topics

With so many Gameweeks in such a short space of time, the transfer market has kicked into overdrive and the template team going into Gameweek 13 is likely to be far different from the one to emerge from this weekend’s matches. Earlier in the week, Rodellegabomb was on hand to analyse the latest emerging template among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

Among departing players from the top 10,000 template this week is Diego Costa. His Gameweek 14 suspension persuaded more than a fifth of this elite group to part company with the Chelsea striker. Grannville, though, was left perplexed as to why more haven’t followed them due to Costa’s poor recent form and lack of bonus point potential.

One player that is refusing to budge from the template is Sergio Aguero, who was owned by more than eight out of ten top 10,000 players going into Gameweek 14 and has an overall ownership of more than a third. Shortly after his 16-point haul against Sunderland on Wednesday, we asked whether he is currently essential. Surprisingly, there are still some in the community who believe he isn’t.

A popular strategy is to have a cheap fifth midfielder, who can come in when needed but spends most of the time benched. George Boyd’s midweek goal served a timely reminder of his suitability for this role, but Dino reckons that, given forthcoming festive rotation, a more expensive and better scoring fifth midfielder is a wiser move.

Former template favourite Raheem Sterling is gradually coming back into form, with an assist during the week in Liverpool’s win at Leicester. Scorcher Prime is among those who knows him best, having played against him back in their school days. “He would just always go around me or backpass it for an open goal,” he revealed in the ensuing name dropping discussion.

Finally, Badgevilla sparked one of the week’s longest discussions when he asked fellow FFScout Members to rate their top three reasons for signing up to the extra statistics and tools that Membership offers. Speaking of which…

The Members Tables

Among the key Members tables to catch the eye this week were Jonesb1987’s two-team based collection of statistics looking at the best attacks and best defences on offer this season.

McNulty has also been busy table constructing with a look at the most attacking defenders, midfielders and forwards. These have a global time filter so feel free to tinker to get a season overview and also more recent form.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Zep popped by with an update to his Dead Team Challenge, where community members a pick team in Gameweek 1 and leave it untouched for the season. Ahead of Gameweek 14’s matches The Casual was good to his name, topping the league with 739 points and a rank of around 11,000.

Tinkerman just can’t be shifted at the summit of the FFScout moderators and contributors league. Athletico Timbo is the latest to step into his shadow in second place.

Rasping Drive also keeps a firm hold on the Puffinboy Memorial Cup, but has lost his lead in the FFS Old Farts Club to Dan Clark, as well as pole position in the FFS Dead Zone league to Paul Kitchener.

Chaps, is there a better move to do than Mata to Eriksen?

      Sure!
I mean why would you worry about your injured keeper, Krul or, your injured defender Duff, who may have lost his starting role anyway?
Ohh, Chambers may lose his spot in a cpl games too but, not to worry you'll have Eriksen!

That is one way to put it, the other way is to field good 11 players for the next ~5 gwks and then use the Jan wildcard to overhaul the entire team.

Who are you looking to captain this gw?

Hey, I realise that the Jan WC is around the corner & all will be forgiven but, when you've got 3 players who may not get a game you're just a red card or injury away from being unable to field XI men... not to mention that a cpl guys could get rested / rotated too.

As for the Captian... can it be anyone but, Aguero?

Fully understand, but it's not as bad as you're making it sound. I'm planning to ship one of Krul or Chambers out next gw & Duff should be back soon too.

Hmm, Krul, Chambers, Fábregas, & Austin all out next game...better hope Duff is fit & keeps his spot or this could get ugly. 😯

Everyone should have Kun so if he blanks youre probably up for having Baines then. Baines on set pieces too. more likely to get something than Clyne. I expect united to score.

Cresswell probably more likely for a clean sheet than the others.

I am currently one of the minority which hasn't played the WC. How would you go about using it in the rest of the season (assuming ur current squad isn't in dire need of wholesale changes)

    1. Play the JAN WC very early and wait till around GW 28-30 to use the season WC
    2. Play it now and milk the festive fixtures and use the Jan WC late so that it lasts for any DGW and till end of season.
    3. Use it before a good DGW and then take hits to correct the team.
    4. Take hits before a DGW and use WC to reform your team.
5 Use only when you need it (boring answer :P)

I've been trying to avoid hits to make changes to the low-budget defenders bcos i think it would be better doing this with a WC. is this a good idea?

Seriously though, I had a great start to the year & said to myself "Save that WC & couple it with a DGW!"...

Then I had a few off weeks, (miss the Sanchise's run) & saw a great opportunity to over haul my team heading into the Xmas season.

So, a few hours before kickoff a cpl week ago I did it & I couldn't be happier.
I'm so glad I didn't get stuck in my plan...

Am I living in the past? but I still think that midfield then Beckham scholes Keano giggs would still dominate today

Assuming Chambers loses his place, who is the best replacement for him? Budget of 5.2. Thinking probably Debuchy but what are the cheap options I could look at?

Defence is Foster, Baines, Terry, Hutton, Chambers, Moore

After posting a similar rotated side early on in the season & getting shutdown & moved to the Marney section. I feel now is a good time to change up my side & maximize future returns & overall value. Marney & my 5th defender will sadly, reap me no rewards when I need them realistically.

Also, don't feel comfortable playing Siggy every week & it seems there's some quality options in in the front w/ Kane now. Costa provides no value to my side & a poor captain choice.
Now is a good as time as any to switch strategy, no?

tl:dr What do you think about this side?

    Fabianski
    Baines Terry (Hutton/Wisdom/Dummett)
    Sanchez Hazard (Siggy/Downing/Mirallas)
    Aguero Benteke (Austin)

Not for me, But it might work all the players are good. I just would want a little more premiumness. You only have 3 sensible captaincy options which is a bit lower than I would like

Well granted this side is 'til the late Jan WC, Alexis, Hazard & Aguero cover all the GW's with great fixtures til then.

Would you feel more at ease with a splurge on Costa?

Id choose Hutton vs Leicester as opposed to Wisdom @ Hull. Hull will probably sneak a goal at home tomorrow.

Midfield is a bit tougher but why not take the chance on Downing and Mirallas by benching Siggy? You can use the argument for Downing since he is at home. Siggy is over 50% already. One of the two is bound to pay off.

Either way, cant go wrong with your choices so hope it works out!

Taking a punt on Vargas this weekend, he is my Austin this week wish me luck!

      Hate this attacking rotation stuff...
It sounds good but, in the end it's too much $ on the bench each week & also far too difficult to pick when a player will net us fantasy returns.

Examples include but are not limited too:
      Siggy away to Utd
      Eriksen away to City
      Mirallas away to Tot
      Downing away to Stk
      Austin away to Che
      etc, etc etc...

        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

I did too at the start of the season, but I had no idea of what I was doing. Benching Siggy & playing Hendo with Fletcher up front was a nightmare.

You have solid points in the predicting aspect though, but some players are anomalys in the sense that they fall to victim to certain predictable patterns of when they'll likely score, letting us maximize bonus points & minimize benched points.

Downing & Siggy right are great shouts for this, Downing having an away curse over his head & Siggy delivering the majority of his points at home. Right now, I'm almost certain one of Siggy or Bony will blank this w/e. I wouldn't be in this hypothetical situation if I had a good home/away 5th mid rotation

I see your points though, they are very unpredictable as a whole though.
