Hull have kept one clean sheet in their last 15 away matches and Stoke have scored in their last 5 home matches. Don't think Bruce/McShane are even worth a transfer in this week

Double gameweek - how much do you really have to lose?

A lot of people (maybe rightly so) aren't seeing much value from the double game week ahead. Spurs fixtures are congested and QPR aren't exactly a team you'd put much faith in.

But on the flip side, double game weeks are fun so why not get involved? I know Spurs aren't City or Chelsea but they're still decent and while the attacking players might get a rest do you want to take the risk of your main rival captaining Kane for 4 DGW goals when you've opted to captain Aguero in fear of Kane getting rested?

Swansea (h) and QPR (a) is quite an attractive double for me. Spurs have averaged 2.2 goals per game over the last 5 home fixtures and QPR have shipped 1.9 goals over the last 5 away fixtures. There will be goals and you know who'll be scoring them? Kane, assisted by Eriksen! 🙂

I would definitely agree that Spurs defensive returns have been poor but I still feel a defender warrants some thought with these fixtures and going forward you can afford someone like Rose in your team. I'll certainly be opting for a full house of defender + Eriksen + Kane.

Rotation is a worry but I feel you can overthink this. The last time I didn't captain a DGW striker for fear of rotation? Berbatov when he scored 5 goals. I ended up going for Nani (c) because he was guaranteed minutes.

Austin is a tricky one - as the recent hot topic has shown QPR haven't been as great at home as we think and Austin hasn't been doing particularly well aside from penalties. But again, there's no reason he can't bag a goal or two over the double. For those of us with Defoe it almost feels like a punt you can't ignore. I can understand Giroud owners not going for it but Austin should definitely be a consideration for many.

To end - it's a double game week, embrace it, celebrate it and get involved..........you know your rival will be.

It's not much fun when you wake up after a double gw and see your team in bits before then proceeding to spend months trying to get it back in order again.

Honestly, I don't think Spurs will get a clean sheet and I'm really happy with my defence. To me it would be an unreasonable transfer, but to others with a load of duds such as Wisdom I can understand.

I'm certainly planning one or both of the following:

Has to be Walcott out of those two. ADM is nailed, Walcott is far from it.

Defoe to Austin seems like a no brainer to me.

Teams in bits mate so you will prob need to wc soon but not sure if next week is the one to do it either. I'd be very tempted to play the wc and set it up so that you can get eriksen next week to bring your dbl gw players to 4 and it will allow you to sort out that dbl saints midfield and baird, hamer and pva problems.

Thanks Dino, am actually considering that JWP mvoe and getting Moses or Walters.

Would much prefer to WC on a DGW when I'll see some big rewards for it, WCing next week when Spurs have a DGW and Liverpool have Burnley at home and City have Leicester at home is more appealing

Yeah this week is not ideal but I think you are looking at possibly only 8 starters this week so you could make up the points even with bringing in a Liverpool players this week and another City player if you want (better than having a non playing player). The way City have been playing that game could be a fairly high scoring one too so no need to avoid their attacking players imo.

I'm now starting to reconsider my planned transfer of Albrighton to Ibe/Cork. 5th mid bench fodder I don't really care who it is for the season, was just looking to get someone to play for me in this blank GW.

But what if I just kept Albrighton, and sold Terry for Fonte instead? Would be a double up with Clyne, but saints have better fixtures and we know how good their defence is. Chelsea defender could always be brough back in. Thoughts on this please?

World Class strikers come to the PL and do not do as well as their reputation suggestions they should. What do we think the reason for this is? Im thinking of players like - Shevchenko, Falcao, Torres (to an extent).

These are world class players but fail to make it in the PL. Do we think the media have an effect? I am not accepting going away to Stoke or QPR (cold tuesday night or not) is tougher than going away to Valencia or Roma.

I think it's got less to do with players coming to England, but players moving clubs full stop. Plenty of examples of successful Prem players moving clubs and not doing as well. Torres a good example, and all the Saints a more recent example. Horses for courses.

I think sometimes because of the money involved people forget that footballers are still people affected by lots of things in life. Moving to another country is different for many people, some love it and some just don't get on.

It could be something as simple as not getting on with the lifestyle changes and that affecting the football. Torres is a really weird one though considering he did it at Liverpool. Maybe the price tag put too much pressure on him? Maybe they didn't play to his strengths?

Would like to see Falcao given some more time but its not looking good for him either.

Torres was amazing for Liverpool, but i think just fell away after losing that extra burst of pace and it was strange that chelsea bought him. Falcao coming after a serious knee injury, so not the same player. Shevchenko also coming when past his best.

Torres was amazing when he came to the PL, I think Shevchenko and Falcao were/are just past it. Other strikers are great when they arrive - Aguero, Torres as I said, Costa, Van Nistelrooy, Bergkamp, Tevez etc. Obviously there can be an adjustment time, but truly great, peak strikers usually do the business in England.

Didn't Torres have an operation to get him to play in the World Cup with the knowledge it could harm the rest of his career? He lost a yard of pace and was never the same again but he was class before that. I think it's the pace of the game mainly. Some players just can't adjust to it, Shevchenko being one. Others it takes a season to adjust. Remember how bad Drogba was in his first season? I still think Falcao could do it if the team was up properly.

I think it is physical thing.

The difference between the lowest and top club in the epl is not as great as in other leagues. I'm not saying that the EPL is the best league in the world or anything just that the top clubs are not as good as top clubs in other leagues and the bottom clubs are not as poor as the bottom teams in other leagues. This means players get less rest during games (as the other teams genuinely have a chance of beating their team) or through rotation (as managers can't afford to rest their best players as much).

I think that EPL teams suffer in Europe for the same reason. Other European teams are so far ahead of the majority of their league that they can play at 70% and still win comfortably meaning that they are fresh for all their European games.

Some advice on my plan please. 🙂

    Team atm- (Got 2 FTs)

    Foster - Myhill
    Terry - Alderweireld - Bellerin - Wisdom - PVA
    Sanchez - Hazard - Walcott - Mane - Ameobi
    Aguero - Sturridge - Kane

This gw - Hazard+Wisdom ➡ Silva+Cawson for free. (Gives me 12 players this week)
    Next gw - Terry+Walcott ➡ Eriksen+Vertonghen for -4
GW 29 - Eriksen ➡ Hazard for free.

    Pros-

-Gives me 12 players this gw for free when most won't have 10.
-Gives me a nailed on Vertonghen over a rotation risk Rose.
-The entire thing costs only -4

    Cons-

-Buying Hazard back for 0.4m more

      Cons
That 0.4 loss on hazard will come back to haunt you.
This game week you could still score low with the wrong 12.

      Pros
This game week combined with a good DGW could see you leap the ranks.

I'd er on the side of caution over these two weeks.

Think I may well be screwed this GW. Have Hazard, Ivan, Eriksen, and Kane on a blank and Wisdom and PVA in my defence. And also Bellerin.

    1) Chances Bellerin plays this week?

    2)
    a) Wisdom -> a cheap (but playing) defender (McShane?) and save FT transfer for next week and play 9 men this GW

    b) Wisdom -> Cheapy, PVA -> another playing cheapy, take a hit next week and play 10 this week

    c) Wisdom, PVA -> cheapies, Eriksen -> Sterling (?), take a hit this week, reverse this tranfers next week, play eleven this week and take another hit next week for MOAR SPURS?

    d) Take hit as above, then wildcard next week to optimise for DGWs

I feel your pain, have three blankers and Baird, PVA, JWP and Mane. Beginning to think it's really not worth shifting a defender for a fellow budget defender, especially a team like Hull.

      Maybe Wisdom > Dawson though?

It's a tricky one, two home fixtures but neither of them particularly appealing. Not sure it's worth sacrificing Giroud (qpr) or Kun (LEI) to get him in

Stuck in the FPL doldrums of late, 6 red arrows have seen me drop from 13k to 30k and nothing I'm doing seems to be arresting the slide. As a result FPL is feeling increasingly like a chore - any suggestions for how to turn things round? Team for next GW is below, currently planning to save FT and get in Eriksen plus a Spurs defender but open to any other suggestions.

    Forster
    PVA Bellerin Jones Lescott
    Mane Downing Sanchez ADM
    Giroud Aguero

    Hamer Hazard Terry Kane

Tempting but have a lot of value tied up in Hazard and historically I have never got on with Silva. Food for thought though, maybe I should look at switching Hazard to a playing heavy-hitter.

Any of these worth a hit? Probably only fielding 8 as it stands:

    a) Baird > Haidara

What to do this week? 2ft 0 ITB.

Current team for this week is:

    Foster
    Fonte Wollscheid Lescott PVA Bellerin
    Sanchez Cazorla Moses
    Aguero Defoe

    Pants Kane Hazard Fab

I only want to do 1ft this week to have 2 for next.

Thinking Fab (9.3) out, suggestions? Preferably someone who can be a short and long term fix... Coutinho? Frees up some money for DGW too.

Erikson and possibly Rose to come in for DGW.

    A) BTTS @ 4/7
    B) Barcelona to win and BTTS 3/1
    C) Draw 12/5
    D) Aguero and Messi both to score 5/1
    E) Under 2.5 goals 23/20
    F) Drawn 1st half Barcelona 2nd half 9/2

I don't want to resign myself to Everton conceding a few goals, and it ruins any captaincy success (unless he bags a hat trick in a 4-3 Everton win).

          • 9 Years

Not sure why it would ruin captaincy success, the result will happen anyway, surely it would ease the pain knowing you have profited from disaster in some small way?

            • 11 Years

It might ease the pain slightly, but surely FPL is all about enjoyment, and it would be strange that the greatest possible source of FPL enjoyment - a huge captaincy haul - would actually be something I'd dislike.

I need to ditch Rose for one week to field 9 at best but see hes about to rise 0.1 in 2 days.

Worth doing Colback > Ki (or even Ibe?) for a -4?

If I don't I've only got 10 players, with the risk of 9 if Bellerin doesn't play (or 8 if PvA doesn't). Burnley at home, could pay off.

I have done Colback to Fletcher -4.

I'll get 2 points minimum back immediately as I need him to make up 11. A goal or assist puts me in plus. Additionally I have saved 0.4 on my (usually benched) 5th midfielder. Fletcher is absolutely nailed on if I ever need him. For -1 or -2 I am happy with that.

Chosing who and how many defenders to play for the DGW is going to be tough:

    Clyne (CPL)
    Rose/Vert (SWA, QPR)
    Koscielny (QPR)
    West Brom (AVL)
    Terry (WHM)

    -Who would you start?
-Would you play 4 and bench your 4th mid?
-Is it worth keeping Terry for the blank followed by WHM away?

Spurs have 4 games in 9 days and the DGW are the last 2 of those, also the easiest. I doubt Kane will play 90 in both games. Spurs will be tired.

I'll take a fresh Aguero at home to Leicester without a 2nd thought. City have no fixture the weekend following and Aguero will likely play the full 90.

I'd also be happy captaining Sturridge (Burnley, h) if I had him. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed by DGW returns.

Lloris is a decent pick but personally I'm happy with my Pantmillion / Foster partnership so will stick with that and go for Rose.

Good pick...and relatively safe. Good fixtures afterwards as well.
