Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 29

With Swansea and Liverpool yet to play out the Gameweek tomorrow evening, we take a look at the new injury worries caused by the weekend’s nine fixtures.

Chelsea
Willian was replaced by Juan Cuadrado with just eight minutes remaining of today’s home draw with Southampton after picking up an injury, according to match reports.

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew is sweating over the availability of a couple of key first-team players after Jason Puncheon (hamstring) and Wilfried Zaha (hip) were both forced off during the weekend win over QPR.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Kevin Mirallas missed today’s win over Newcastle with a knock sustained in Thursday’s Europa League victory over Dinamo Kiev. The Belgian is expected to recover in time for this week’s return trip to the Ukraine, though, after failing a late fitness test earlier today.

QPR
Rio Ferdinand missed the trip to Selhurst Park due to illness, the club’s official website has confirmed. The R’s right-back Darnell Furlong was replaced by Clint Hill at the break in Saturday’s defeat at Palace after sustaining a calf complaint, according to manager Chris Ramsey:

”Darnell came off and the only reason he did so was because his calf stiffened up and it wouldn’t have been fair to keep him on. He didn’t come off because they scored two goals.”

Southampton
Eljero Elia missed today’s trip to the Bridge with a twisted ankle, according to the local press.

Stoke
Jonathan Walters was forced off on 67 minutes with a head injury following a collision with Craig Dawson in the Potters’ 1-0 loss at West Brom. Erik Pieters was withdrawn at the break, whilst match reports indicate that Victor Moses was replaced on 57 minutes due to injury. After the match, Mark Hughes gave an update on the former and admitted he has concerns over Walters’ availability:

”Erik should be ok next weekend, but Jon is our main concern at the moment. He looks as though he has a nasty bang on his cheekbone which may well be a fracture and that will have to be checked on Monday. We hope it isn’t but it’s looking as though it could be a serious one that will keep him out for a few games.”

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher was subbed off injured on 82 minutes after sustaining what appeared to be a thigh problem during the Black Cats’ 4-0 home hammering by Villa.

West Brom
Tony Pulis faces an anxious wait on Ben Foster’s fitness after the keeper was forced off with a knee injury during the Baggies’ win over Stoke, whilst match-winner Brown Ideye was also withdrawn late on with a similar complaint.

After the match, Pulis confirmed Foster is set for scans after sustaining the injury in a challenge with the Potters’ Peter Crouch:

“We will have to get him checked. He felt his left knee go from under him. We need him fit.”

West Ham
The Hammers keeper Adrian played from start to finish in the 3-0 loss at Arsenal despite dislocating his finger in the warm-up. Assistant boss Neil McDonald revealed post-match:

”He’s been a brave lad today because he could easily have pulled out. And he’s made some great saves. He has his finger strapped up to play and I’m hoping that if he played today he should alright for next week. He did it in the warm-up but he wanted to carry on. I haven’t ever dislocated my finger so I don’t know how much pain he was in but it’s obviously a big thing for a goalkeeper.”

I like the Bellerin out transfer as you have 4 other good defenders so you wouldn't have to play Schlupp much. I personally can't see Leicester keeping many clean sheets, but he will come in handy in GW 33 though and of course has a DGW too.

Newcastle aren't doing too well and will be without Coloccini so I think keeping Caz and Sanchez this week might be smart. Monitor their minutes and performance in the CL game though, but saving that second FT instead of getting rid of one of them might be the better move.

Question: how much do people let there personal dislike for players affect their FPL teams?

I've seen so many comments like; I don't like Costa/Terry/Rooney so I refuse to get them.

A bit but not if it's obviously the best move.

I really dislike Sturridge as a player but if Liverpool have a DGW he'll be in my team.

I have a bias towards Alexis so I keep capping him and failing massively. 😉

Also not a fan of Costa's antics but that is not the reason why he is not on my team.

I'm on my worst streak in a long time. A GW rank of 2.9 m so far. Have 20 points on my bench in Heaton and Boyd as well.

I did Sanchez -> Mane with my 1 FT, just was tired of having him in my team.

    Team right now is:

    Pantilimon

    Verthongen - Clichy - Clyne

    Mané - Hazard (C) - Eriksen - Özil

    Aguero - Kane(VC) - Austin.

    (Heaton - Naughton - Boyd - Haidara)

    5.2m ITB 1 FT.

With the money I can get in

    A) Giroud & Ivanovic for Austin & Clichy
    B) Costa for Austin

Any other glaring options I'm missing?

B and you're set. City have good fixtures, no rush to shift Clichy.

Incidentally, I think Sanchez to Mane was a great move. Sigurdsson would also have been a good choice.

Mane and Costa replacing Sanchez and Austin over the next weeks - I think you're quids in.

I dropped Sanchez. Tbh I think all of them could go, Cazorla wont get pens every week, Bellerin not nailed on. Sanchez isn't delivering for his price.

If you can lose Bellerin and have enough for Austin > Giroud, I'd be surprised and would probably do that.

But all 3 you could pick from in my opinion. I'm going to lose Sanchez in order to upgrade elsewhere this week.

In such a low scoring week the loss of Foster's clean sheet is tougher to take. Made the difference between 33 and 38 for me. 38 would have been a nice green.

Every week I look at my team and think "you know what? My team looks pretty good" - only to score around 30 points! Any thoughts on how to improve for next week?

    Foster/ Myhill

    Hazard/ Silva/ Caz/ Sanchez

          City's defense is a joke .
Arsenal aren't solely dependent on Sanchez as they did at season's beginning, now with everyone else around him available and in form expect them to share attacking returns.
Therefore, sell both and use the money to upgrade elsewhere.
Ps. My team is without Sanchez for the past 6 gameweeks and I've only missed a total of 18 points from him..... Fine by me

Really tempted to get Giroud, but feel Ivanovic is more essential. Worth losing Aguero for any of Sturridge, Giroud, Rooney or Costa?

    Aguero Kane Austin

Jerked a bit this morning with Fonte > Duff and Austing > Giroud.

What are your opinions on these transfers?

Ha I agree with most of the comments below.

Fonte is a good option the next few weeks, don't know if I'd want Duff.
          What's Duff's game time like?

Ooo that's gonna hurt ya this week. I'm tempted to captain Fonte. Burnley can't defend set pieces.

Chadli should be nailed on right? No Europa, played over 75 mins in the previous 3 gameweeks.

    Considering

Punch>Chad, if Puncheon out this week.

Bolasie - stoke & MANCITY up next.. not good fixtures..

I would choose Mane.. he had a good game yesterday..

In the 6 game projections for forwards, Kramaric (LEI) is 5th on the list to score the highest points of all forwards (this includes GW29). This seems like a very left field prediction - anyone tempted by a bargain basement striker at 5.5?

With exception to City, West Ham's fixtures are great from now until the end of the season.
Shame their form has gone! Some budget options to be had.

West Ham's form isn't great tho, not an option for me.

I might consider Downing just so I can free up some funds.

As soon as I take Benteke out of my team, he gets 12 points and then 13 points in consecutive gameweeks. That's the last straw. I'm just going to try and get the highest score for each round for the rest of the season.
