The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 32 – The Forwards

The last of this week’s Watchlist articles sees us cast our eye on the forwards who warrant our attention over the next four-to-six Gameweeks. Three goals in his last two appearances see Bafetimbi Gomis climb up the rankings, while Glenn Murray comes into our thoughts having enjoyed a new lease of life under Alan Pardew.

Despite registering a blank in the goalless draw at Burnley, Harry Kane maintains his position at the top of our forwards ladder. The Tottenham striker has now failed to produce attacking returns in three of his last five appearances, but has delivered huge double-figure hauls in his other two outings. With two favourable fixtures – at home to Villa and away at Newcastle – up next, that explosive potential could be realised, so it’s of little surprise the England international is currently the resounding leader of our Captain Poll with 44% of the vote.

With Olivier Giroud facing a blank in Gameweek 33 and Diego Costa’s hamstring giving way once again, it is rather by default that Sergio Aguero keeps his place in our latest update. The Argentine has seen his price drop from 13.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in Gameweek 29 to 12.5 on the back of a single assist in five appearances, and has only scored three times since picking up a knee injury back in Gameweek 15. The fixtures (mun, WHM, AVL, tot, QPR) are still in his favour though, which makes the decision for owners to stick or twist all the tougher.

It has taken some time for Bafetimbi Gomis to find his feet at Swansea, but three goals in his last two outings have thrust him into the Fantasy spotlight. The underlying stats for the 6.5-priced forward are also encouraging, having registered 10 goal attempts in the last three Gameweeks, more than the likes of Kane and Diafra Sakho. With the upcoming schedule (EVE, lei, new, STO) very favourable, the French international looks ripe for investment.

Although Olivier Giroud is the form striker in the Premier League with seven goals in his last six appearances, the Gameweek 33 blank and tough clash against leaders Chelsea a week after see him drop a couple of places this time around. Saturday’s trip to Burnley does look favourable, although the Clarets have kept clean sheets against Manchester City and Tottenham in their last two home matches. Once the Gunners fixtures turn from Gameweek 35, expect Giroud’s ownership, which currently stands at 18%, to skyrocket ahead of double Gameweek 37.

Diego Costa’s aforementioned hamstring injury means Loic Remy suddenly becomes a Fantasy option in the short-term. Reports emerged yesterday saying the Spanish international could return for the trip to the Emirates, the first of Chelsea’s double Gameweek 34 fixtures. If that were to be the case, Remy’s appeal is lessened somewhat, with only a favourable trip to his former club QPR followed by a home encounter with the in-form Man United before then. Coming in at 7.1 in FPL, the French striker does offer great value, but his prospects really are dependant on Costa’s fitness.

Having grabbed a goal, an assist and maximum bonus in each of his last two outings, Glenn Murray has catapulted himself into our thoughts. The 5.1-valued forward has now scored five goals in as many Premier League matches, and with the short-term schedule very favourable (sun, WBA, HUL), the former Brighton striker looks worthy of consideration, particularly for those looking for a Charlie Austin replacement, with the QPR forward facing a blank in Gameweek 33.

Another budget forward who looks a viable replacement for Austin is West Ham’s Diafra Sakho. The Hammers upcoming fixtures (STO, mci, qpr, BUR, avl, EVE) offer hope the Senegal international can add to the two goals scored in his last six appearances. The 5.4-rated striker leads the way among forwards for shots inside the box (23) over that period and looks to have the ideal platform to turn those impressive underlying stats into Fantasy points in the upcoming period.

Having played 45 minutes as a substitute in the 4-1 defeat to Arsenal and completed 85 minutes in last night’s 1-0 win against Blackburn in the FA Cup, Daniel Sturridge returns to the Watchlist this time around. The England international has scored twice and grabbed an assist in his last four league appearances, and has a very favourable home fixture against an injury-hit Newcastle this week. Liverpool do have a blank in Gameweek 33, but with double Gameweek 34 (wba/hul) now confirmed, the 11.1-rated forward may force his way into our three-man frontlines providing he can steer clear of injury, with a plum home fixture against QPR in Gameweek 35 also on the horizon.

Despite scoring for a third consecutive home match in the 3-1 victory against Aston Villa, Wayne Rooney still finds himself towards the bottom of our ladder. The United skipper’s form at Old Trafford is impressive, having scored four times in his last three outings at the Theatre of Dreams, but with home fixtures against City and Arsenal in the next six, along with difficult trips to Stamford Bridge and Goodison Park, there look to be better value picks out there, with Rooney setting you back 10.7 in FPL.

Saido Berahino keeps his place in this week’s refresh with West Brom facing two decent fixtures (LEI, cpl) before the schedule turns nasty from Gameweek 34. The 5.6-priced forward has averaged 5.7 points per appearance in his last four home matches, and looks a good option against the Foxes, although a trip to the rejuvenated Crystal Palace under Pardew might prove less fruitful.

Concerns over his fitness mean Romelu Lukaku finds himself at the bottom of the Watchlist, despite a pretty kind upcoming schedule (swa, BUR, MUN, avl, SUN, whm). Everton manager Roberto Martinez said this morning the Belgian international is “50/50” for Saturday’s trip to the Liberty Stadium, having yet to re-join full training. With eight goals and five assists to his name, the 8.8-valued forward has endured a fairly disappointing second season on Merseyside, but with the fixtures in his favour, he could end the campaign with a flourish providing he can overcome his hamstring problem.

What's the latest on Foster for WBA? Anyone have any idea? Need to have a Panti backup for the blank gameweek.

Thanks everyone. May do Panti to Myhill and then finally get rid of Ward Prowse for Hendo or something....such a confusing week...been analysing so many different variants of things. Trying to get a 10 or 11 for next week, and also trying to have a good # of DGW players is tough..

you COULD do Foster to Schmeichel?

Has a DGW in 34 and rotates nicely with Panti afterwards

I had Panti and a keeper who doesn't start (Gilks), so i just changed Gilks to Myhill. Since Panti has a double in GW 37 i figured i would keep him instead of get rid.

I'm not sure I want to use my WC to load up on GW34 DGW players after all. I'm not sure I want to head into the last GW35 with the likes of:

Remy (will be displaced when Costa recovers)
Studge (fitness issues and not exactly in the best form)
    Sterling/Cout (inconsistent)

    and without:

    3 Arsenal players
    Benteke and Austin

Anyone thinking of using the WC in GW35 still to clean up the team from DGW punts and make the most of the change in fixtures?

Would mean having less DGWers in GW34 obviously, but there are 4 more GWs that may prove more decisive.

Remy - can be sold GW35 if you don't have Gru
      Sturridge - plays QPR GW35
Sterling/Cout - could be sold for an Arsenal mid GW35 or kept for QPR then sold for someone else

get 2 Arsenal on wc and then transfer the last one in later

Biggest issue I'm finding atm is including City. Not sure i want to atm

true. For me I think I have to go in GW34

I have Hazard and Terry but no Pool. I also have Kos who I'd like to ditch (though that could be done GW34 anyway but I'd still need 2 or 3x Pool, 1x Chelsea as a bare minimum

Looking at the team I have for GW34 I'd be changing 8-9 players. Literally the only thing I'm debating is City attack but it'd likely mean only 2 from one of Pool or Chelsea or a hit GW35

Plan's are in tatters, like many people's I guess with Costa and Naughton crocked meaning I can no longer get 11 out GW33 hit-free.

What's my priority this week? Costa>Remy, or Naughton>Leicester def (Morgan prob).

If Kos doesn't play I'll only get two out at the back, with Costa out I can still play Boyd in a 3-5-2. But I need to downgrade Costa to get Hazard anyway..

    GW32 Costa>Remy
    GW33 Sterling>Haz + Naughton>Morgan -4
    GW34 Fellaini or Mane>Sterling

    De Gea
    Bertrand Kos PvA
    Sanchez Sterling Fellaini Mane
    Aguero COSTA Kane(c)

    Boyd Was NAUGHTON

Losing Kun before Villa at home seems like madness but there's a DGW on. Here are the issues as i see them

    a) Arsenal, have nice fixtures from GW35 meaning you may want 3. How do you that, whilst having 3 Pool+Chelsea, Kun and Sanchez assuming you also want 2 Arsenal?
    b) If Costa isn't fit can it be argued that Kun v Villa is better than any other Chelsea striker given that neither Remy nor Drogba is likely to get 180 mins and thus only 2 Chelsea is needed?

Agree with b. Only getting rid of Kun if Costa is fit

so I could potentially go with

        Coutinho, Hendo, Sanchez, Mahrez, Hazard
        Kun, Giroud, Kane/DGW striker

        and bench Giroud

You're being too cautious. . 3 of those aren't dgw players. 9-11 dgwers I reckon

Kun is the issue for me, especially given City's attacking stats

            eventually they have to click

86 Chances Created in 4 GWs

I have 8-9 with that draft

It's just that Sturridge and Remy haven't yet convinced that they're worthy of investement. Sturridge due to form, Remy due to minutes

the draft I came up with sans Kun and Kane

            Schmeichel (Panti)
            Skrtel, Terry, Bruce/Robertson/Chester
            Hendo, Hazard, Sanchez, Mahrez
            Giroud, N'Doye

I can then add either Remy and Coutinho or Sturridge and Fabregas

      A) I'll do Remy/Sturridge to Giroud immediately after the DGW, will already have Sanchez, and will probably do Coutinho/Sterling to Ozil
      B) I think I'll keep Aguero for the DGW, though not certain at whose expense yet

        a) Issue is it needs a hit otherwise I;d be happy to roll with that
        b) if you keep him you have to do it at the expense of Giroud, Kane or a DGW striker IMO

Kun AND Sturridge is a no go for me

I can have 1 of Kun, Studge or Costa (if fit)

    Pantilimon Forster
    Terry Kompany Fonte Bellerin Dawson
    Hazard Eriksen Silva Mane Boyd
    Kane Agüero Austin

2 free transfers, 2,5 in the bank, wildcard intact.

Quite confused what to do at the minute but how about this for a plan?

This week: Austin out for Giroud.
GW 33: Forster out for Schmeichel or Myhill + Giroud out for Lukaku if fit. If not then Cisse or Murray maybe.
    GW 34: wildcard

That's what I have noticed about this game. Ppl jump on a player asap when he scores without taking into consideration up coming fixtures and vice versa causing unnecessary price increase/decrease.

Hmmm hadn't thought of Mahrez. Looks good.

    My plan currently is:
    Hazard, Fabregas, Sterling, Henderson, Boyd
    Kun, Giroud, Kane

    If Costa fit:
    Hazard Silva Sterling Henderson Boyd
    Costa Giroud Kane

Mahrez? Subbed at half time in the last match, was on the bench for the one before. Wouldn't go there, unless he starts and does something spectacular this weekend.

      I'll take Coutinho over Sterling

I want to go big on DGWs but without Costa Chelsea attack outside of Hazard isn't that interesting.

also has 22 BAPs, more than any other defender, more than any striker bar Kane and as many as Fabregas, Silva and Austin

He's joint 6th on the overall BAPs table

I know it's early days but for gw34 ,how does Naughton Bertrand Mane > Mcshane Skertl Henderson - 4 sound ( already have Sturridge Ivan Hazard)

      Sanchez & Austin > Henderson & Remy?

      Means I'll have 11 players for GW33 and 6 x DGWers for GW34.

      Decent?

Not bad. Though reports that Costa might be back for the Arsenal game could mean neither him nor Remy has a DGW.

and hence the issue with the 3rd Chelsea

if Costa is back for Arsenal then you're left with double defence or Cesc

          is either really worth it
