PlayON Picks – Gameweek 34

We roll out our Friday lunchtime assessment of the PlayON Player Price List once again. As always, we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

PlayON are now running a number of different deadlines so Fantasy managers can have as much benefit of seeing teamsheets as possible. Tomorrow, for example, managers can pick teams for the weekly game (which includes all ten matches on Saturday and Sunday) and the single match game (for the Southampton versus Tottenham match) up to 12.45.

Managers can pick teams for all the 15.00 & 17.30 kick-offs up to 15.00 tomorrow. Their Daily game on Sunday, which includes two matches, has a deadline of 13.30. There’s free entry tourna-ments and guaranteed pots in all games so plenty for Fantasy managers to take advantage of – you can pick up to three different teams for each game now at www.PlayON.co

Goalkeepers – Asmir Begovic
Available for just 7.1m, the Bosnian is handed a plum home clash with a Sunderland side that have scored only once in their previous three road trips. Although Stoke have failed to keep a clean sheet in five matches, three of their last four shut-outs have arrived at the Britannia, suggesting the 15%-owned Begovic could be in line to pick up the points against Dick Advocaat’s strugglers. Joe Hart (8m, 14% ownership) bagged a fourth straight clean sheet at home and resultantly retains our essential goalkeeper status. Eleven saves over that run shows he is also picking up those valuable extra points and the City keeper will need to deliver once more against Villa’s in-form Christian Benteke at the Etihad.

Defenders – Wes Morgan
The Leicester defender’s threat in the opposition box has served up a goal and an assist in his last four. Over that period, Morgan has six headed attempts on goal and 18 clearances, highlighting his points potential at both ends of the pitch in the event of his side conceding away to Burnley. Bearing in mind the Clarets have scored a single goal in seven matches, Morgan – at 6.3m and owned by only 3% of PlayON managers – looks an ideal budget enabler for our squads. Scott Dann also looks a strong option as Palace attempt to bounce back from the home defeat to West Brom. Coming in at 7.1m and owned by 14%, the centre-half has produced five efforts in the box over his last six and faces a Hull side with a single goal in their last four on the road.

Midfielders – Matty Phillips
With two goals and seven assists in his last nine matches, the winger has produced a consistent source of points under new boss Chris Ramsey. QPR failed to score at home to Chelsea last time out but will be optimistic of getting amongst the goals at Loftus Road this weekend, considering that visitors West Ham have a single clean sheet away from home all season. Available for 7m and picked by 13% of teams, Phillips looks set to prosper once again. Jordan Henderson was our left-field pick a couple of weeks back but is now promoted to essential status ahead of the trip to West Brom The midfielder (16% ownership) offers a budget route into the Liverpool side at 8.8m, has four goals and two assists in six matches and has form against West Brom, scoring one and assisting the other in the 2-1 win at Anfield. Bearing in mind that the Baggies have conceded seven in their last two at the Hawthorns, Brendan Rodgers’ side will be hopeful of returning to winning ways.

Forwards – Glenn Murray
After providing four assists and six goals in six appearances, the Eagles striker unexpectedly blanked against West Brom at Selhurst Park. A home tie against struggling Hull is a different prospect, with the Tigers conceding eight in their last three matches, and, for 7.5m, the 22%-owned Murray offers excellent value as Palace look for a win before the schedule turns against them. Sergio Aguero (15m) delivered a goal on his return to our essential slot last week and we’re sticking with the Argentine ahead of Villa’s visit. The City striker now has three strikes in two matches since Manuel Pellegrini shifted to a 4-4-1-1 formation and, having fired ten attempts over that pair of fixtures, looks back to his predatory best. With David Silva likely to be available, Aguero has already been snapped up by a massive 59% of PlayON managers for this one.

Head over to www.PlayON.co to get your teams in for the free entry and guaranteed pot games.

I agree that we should appreciate both, and I also find the comparisons tiresome; was just making the point that "Messi v Ronaldo" shouldn't really even be a thing as it's a non-contest.

And yes, I do realise I'm a masisve hypocrite by complaining about the comparisons by making a comparison.

For me it's a match, which feels more like a kindergarten reenactment.

At least saw a couple and gave up on watching, you can see the moments of brilliance in the highlights, but the rolling around, fake injuries and diving are terrible.

I also don't like two teams from the same country playing the final, for me it feels like going against the whole Champion League idea of having league champions play other league champions, I am aware that that's a more nostalgic argument.

    Regarding Team News
Demi does a lovely work but there are a few recent tweaks in Villa and Palace formations, that can be viewed in a different way when regarding a possible transfer (out or in) for their players.

Villa started the last 2 matches in a 4-4-2 diamond and a 4-3-2-1 with two #10's
So if Agbonlahor starts it should be like this:

    ------------------Guzan-----------------------
    Bacuna - Vlaar - Okore - Richardson
    ----------------Westwood---------------------
    Cleverly-------------------------------Delph
    -----------------Grealish---------------------
    --------Gabby----------------Benteke-----

Palace started the last 2 in a 4-2-3-1 but without Puncheon in the hole in either.
Seems like Pardew its experimenting news things.

    vs Sunderland

    ------------------Speroni--------------------
    Ward-----Dann-----Delaney----Suoare
    ------------Jedinak-----McArthur---------
    Zaha------------Bolasie-------Puncheon
    --------------------Murray--------------------

    vs WBA

    ------------------Speroni--------------------
    Ward-----Dann-----Delaney----Ledley
    ------------Jedinak-------Puncheon------
    Zaha------------McArthur-------Bolasie
    --------------------Murray--------------------

    Just a warnnig...

You are right regarding the Sunderland game.

      Thanks again

Though i'm not sure it really matters too much. Do you know how long it would take to check the exact formations and player-position maps for each game each week? Think a simple look at whoscored to see the general formation for that match is enough.

Plus they may have lined up that way in a certain game, but it doesn't mean it will be the same the next time, so say i adjusted to put McArthur in attacking midfield behind Murray this week, and it turned out to be puncheon this time? Again don't think it would change anything, r.e. transfers.

Not sure most here really care, as long as they know the 11 predicted to start. Just my opinion

      1. Margarido
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

I know that most don't care, but that's just adding a little bit more detail into your work.
For instance, this a week when everyone its pondering who to get rid in Midfield… and if i owned Punch, after seeing those last 2 games, i would sold immediately.
Even their set-pieces are different, trying to play short corners, etc.

And, i like what you did for Liverpool predicted line-up.
I my self see that as an option, but if Allen returns it would be a 3-4-2-1..

Keep up the good work, Demi.

I always read your predicted lineUps Demi, as they're the best in the country from what I know but I do really care about the positions, although if I own a player, I will likely do my own research as well.
I would absolutely love if the line ups were even more precise, showing your expectations of the real position (like placing them as in Fifa in one of 100 positions. Ramsey a little more inverted, Hazard a little further up than Willian etc.) and if members would automatically see the RMT Tools prediction next to the player, that would be so great, that every fantasy player should think no more of whether to spend 15bucks. Good for the site really.
        Just spoonfeed us 😉

So does anyone really know whats going on with price rises/fall? I understand that wildcards play a part but there seem some large discrepancies.

It seems perfectly fine that Silva, the person most transferred out, has dropped 0.2m this week with 154,923 total transfers out (tto). Yet Sterling, the person most transferred in, has had no rises with 141,580 total transfers in (tti).

In 2nd is Eriksen with 64,989 tto who has dropped 0.1m. This again seems reasonable yet Henderson, who is 2nd with 95,465, tti has had no rises.

These are the top two but Mane has also dropped 0.2m and has had just 13,986 tto. Even if he was on the edge of dropping on Sat that should not be happening. Yet Downing the 3rd most tto (42,713) has had only dropped 0.1m. Fab the 3rd most tti (64,894) has risen 0.1m.

The transfers this season are roughly based on, drop or rise 0.1 @ 50,000/100,000/150,000 in/out. Taking this as a starting point the transfers out seem reasonable and on point. The risers have been ignored. I understand that we do not know how these rises/falls work and that the drops probably use a % of ownership but to have such opposed and seemingly unfair rises/falls seems very strange. Again i understand the wildcards can make a difference but the people being ditched on a wildcard seem to be dropping, yet those bought do not rise. A total of 40 players dropping 0.1m (42 if you count Silva & Mane 'doubles') yet just 7 risers (no 'doubles') do not add up especially since the main people being brought in (Mainly Liv players) have not risen between them. There will of course be some residual drops (Caz, Costa) from Sat included in those as well as rises (Baines, Bolaise and i suspect Fab) but still the gap seems way to large.

If there is something i have missed then please feel free to help me understand just what is going on here (Like DGWers have doubled totals) or we can only assume that FPL is screwing with us.

Maybe more to non WCs where price rises/falls can make a big difference. I had Mane and Eriksen. I could lose 0.4m and stand to gain precisely nothing even bringing in Liv players. But it was more about the discrepancies. I don't mind things going wrong, if it's fair.

I spoke with a guy form FFF who confirmed that the threshold for a rise was greater for a DGW player than that of a SGW player. They are trying to amend their algorithm to fix this. There is also the WC factor which you have mentioned.

Is the DGW increased threshold just someone's theory or is there some factual evidence behind it? It's a really good theory, and plausible.

    Schmeichel
    Terry - Skrtel - Morgan
    Hazard (c) - Fabregas - Sterling (v) - Henderson
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

    (Panti - Boyd - 5.0 DF - PVA) £5.3

    This allows Fabregas/Sterling/Vardy ---> Sanchez/Ramsey/Giroud

5.0 Defender? Required to play GW36 only I think.

Vlaar is useful. Has nice 35, 36 and 38 and saves you money. Which you may need if the Arsenal players' prices increase (which they will start to do after this week).

Shaping up as the template which isn't such a bad thing.

I'd consider Coutinho over Hendo if Lucas is out.

Very template. Cambiasso is tempting though! Anything you would change? Winning my mini leagues and sitting 20k odd so no reason to gamble too much!

I do need the money for the Arsenal players. Hence downgrading Clyne to a max 5.0 defender.
