Sky Sports Focus – Fantasy Football Scout League Details

As we mentioned yesterday, the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game is now up and running ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

After winning top spot in the League of Leagues for the past three seasons, we’re looking to defend our crown once again and hope to make it four times running this year.

For those playing the Sky Sports game, we’ve set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league – the name is FFScout and the pin number to join is 8009000.

Last season, we handed over a cool £1,000 to the Fantasy manager who finished at the summit of the Scout league and hope to offer prizes once again this year – which should be incentive enough to assemble a team and get involved.

Over the next few days, we’ll be rolling out Player Price List analysis articles, breaking down the options position by position and offering insight into each player’s potential.

Once the season gets underway, we’ll be bringing you hints and tips in our weekly Friday afternoon “Sky Sports Focus” articles, analysing the market trends and looking at transfer tactics for the Gameweek ahead.

Our regular contributor d1sable will again be at the helm to offer his expert advice – he’ll be looking for yet another top 100 finish after a storming end to the previous campaign.

We’ve set up a new community article to exclusively deal with Sky Sports Fantasy teams. Those looking to get involved with the discussion should click this link.

I see a lot teams without Aguero and no easy move to get him in, what are your plans if he's back for GW1 or even GW2?

I am holding out for GW 4 regardless, unless his price shoots up.

That is my conundrum. I always use it on the international break but I want 3 City player from GW4.

That's only 1 GW before the international break. Is it so crucial for one GW as long as you have Aguero?

For those looking at Depay, Payet, Wijnaldum, Firmino, Ayew etc. All of which had strong records in their respective leagues.

    Just a gentle reminder:

Remy Cabella; 37 games, 14 goals and 7 assists in 2013/14

Then for Newcastle; 31 games, 1 goal and 2 assists in 2014/15

And let's not even mention Jozy Altidore from the 2013/14 season.

Some just don't cut the mustard. So, who will flop and who will not?

Well the fact Liverpool and United should be controlling the games a little more and have better players on the team you would think it helps depay and firmino out. Wijnaldum and payet on the under hand could struggle on the back foot

      1. Pochettino
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

This is it. All depends on the team, and how they are playing.

But in some cases, particularly strikers like an Altidore, who managed 23 goals in the Eredivisie, the same year Bony managed 30 odd. Both went to teams that were hoping for a "mid-table" finish, and the contrast was vast. 1 goal for Jozy and 16 for Wilfried

So, that also disproves that the team is the be all and end all.

Lesson is, be careful picking the new "stars" of the prem.

Age and potential has to come into the equation. Younger players are more likely to improve the following season. Then there are adjustment factors like language, culture etc. Then also competition within the squad can also be a limiting factor.

Depay, Payet, Wijnaldum & Firmino all play at a higher level with the Netherlands, France, The Netherlands & Brazil respectively. Not a guarantee - but they're certainly all of a higher standard than Cabella & Altidore.

So I was all set on Courtouis, Clyne and Jrod but have now changed it to Schmeichel, Ivan and Sakho.
Feel like Courtois will get little save points and Che have the best attacking defenders in the league. ..

    looking like

    Schmeichel, Hennesy
    Ivan, Kos, Darmian, Bassong, Targett
Ozil, Firmino, Mata / Depay, Cabaye, Anya
    Costa, Rooney, Sakho

Herrera is a bit of a punt. I had a look at Hoolahan myself but he's not nailed. I read he should play easy home games though so he's one to watch if Norwich have an easy run later in the season.

The first name on my team sheet this season is Theo Walcott and after his hat trick at the end of last season am surprised people are so cautious.

He averages a goal or an assist every 88 minutes.

The charity shield will be interesting to see where he plays and whilst Arsenal do have a lot of good attacking options are people expecting him to be playing one week and on the bench the next?

I thought he was being eased back in after his nasty injury. He has always been first choice when fit before hasnt he?

    3. Doolittle
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 10 months ago

He was first choice before Sanchez joined. Now, can you be certain he'll start? Hypothetically:

      Coquelin-Cazorla
      Ramsey-Ozil-Sanchez
      Giroud

Who drops out there? That's before considering Wilshere/Ox et al.

He'll almost certainly start while Sanchez is out, but there won't be any certainty around his place in the long-term.

I wouldn't deem any of them safe at the moment, except maybe Ozil. Ramsey could easily play where Cazorla is there, with Theo on the wing, or Theo could replace Ramsey - it's very difficult to say at the moment.

I think he will start and there are several reasons why.

Pre injury he was being played up front or on the wing. Post injury it took him quite a while to get back to any sort of game fitness.

Arsenal lost to Swansea, drew with Utd and then again to Sunderland with Giroud upfront. In all three games Arsenal found it hard to stretch the defence. Next game was against clean sheet wonders West Brom, Walcott played up front and demolished there defence, 4 - 1, scoring a hat trick.

FA Cup, Walcott up front again demolished there defence ad was unlucky not to score more than once.

Wenger himself said that Walcott is entering the golden age of his career, the age of 26.
Whereas Walcott's finishing for years was suspect, he is now clinical and offers the gunners a different dimension up front.

Theo has just become a better option up front than Giroud.

trying to budget for Kun without 2 big strikers is hard

If I dump Costa and try to squeeze in Hazard and Silva/Sterling then I'll end up having to dump one of them GW4 anyway to free up the cash to get from Rooney to Kun

Latest draft, what do people think?:

Adrian Boruc || These 2 rotate nicely until WC
Ivan Williams || These 2 are bread and butter play every week
Morgan Shawcross Martin || These 3 rotate cheaply

Ritchie Schweinie Henderson Hazard || Hoping to get assists off of the German as he is 1.5m cheaper than Depay

Sakho Kun Giroud || Fingers are crossed that Kun is fit for GW1, is Giroud nailed on?

Monitor Giroud he should be but Walcott could possibly play up front. I imagine they will sign a striker too. Chadli is a better option to Schweini imo at that price.

It's not just about who plays further forward though, Fabregas plays further back than Oscar and Willian. Not saying Cabaye's the better option, just that it's simplistic to reduce it to who plays further forward.

      Ummm... loaded question anyone?

Pardew is the manager we need to be concerned with. And when he had Cabaye at Newcastle he moved him to #10, built a team around him and they finished 5th and then 10th. Don't think he'll do the same again?

Either it's a 4-1-4-1 or Bolasie moves wide and Zaha loses his place. Cabaye will play in and around #10 unless Pardew is much more flexible than I give him credit for.

    Hi folks

I've been doing some analysis based on 'minutes played per point earnt' on last season's stats; the lower the minutes per point figure, the better the performance - obviously. It's thrown up some really interesting stats - such as this:

Pos Name Price Price Bracket Mins Pts MPP
    Mid Silva 10 Premium 2646 191 13.85
    Mid Sanchez 11 Premium 2944 207 14.22
    Mid Hazard 11.5 Premium 3373 233 14.48

The prices shown are this season's in case of any confusion.

Clearly what this shows is that when Silva is fit, he's been scoring FPL points at a more frequent rate than both Sanchez and Hazard. A potential bargain given the prices attached to each this year...

We can do a similar analysis of some lesser priced midfielders to assess potential value:

Pos Name Price Price Bracket Mins Pts MPP
    Mid Adam 6 Middle 1511 97 15.58
    Mid Sigurdsson 7.5 Upper Middle 2682 154 17.42
    Mid Henderson 7 Middle 3256 162 20.10
    Mid Milner 7 Middle 1749 107 16.35

Again, this shows that when selected, Charlie Adam is a very reliable FPL point scorer. More so than the more steeply priced Sigurdsson, Henderson and Milner - selection does of course need to be considered.

Another point which has been discussed in recent posts I've seen is the Henderson vs Milner debate; Yes Henderson scored well last season but he also played a lot of minutes. The above stats show that, should Milner replicate his performance last season with a more regular starting berth at Liverpool there's every indication that he could out score his new colleague.

Of course, there are various things to consider such as selection and injury prone-ness but hopefully this provokes some thought.

Afternoon, all. Would appreciate comments on the below - have tried to include my reasoning (if there is any!). Have laid out the players I'll most likely start with, week in and week out, for the first 8 or so weeks (barring injuries/suspensions/massive form changes):

    Stecklenburg (Myhill)

Ivanovic | Lescott | Morgan (Mings, Prodl)

Henderson | Yaya | Haz | Ramsey (Anya)

    Rooney | Benteke | Wilson

GKs: despite the threat of one/both being replaced in December and October respectively, I think the fixtures between GW1 and then warrant inclusion of both - can always swap one out when I play my wildcard, or build in a FT buffer.

DEFs: CHE and WBA defenders are the most likely sources for CSs, and I also have WBA DEF cover if/when I have to replace Myhill with another 4.5 (probably Guzan). The other three offer funds elsewhere, as well as a possible source of points (although, Prodl is a shot in the dark as I don't know much about him).

MIDs: Haz I view as necessary; I keep swapping between Ramsey/Ozil/Caz and have gone with my gut (for now) as I've not seen a convincing case for any of them. Henderson looks great value. I have Yaya ‘cos he'll be on pens(?) with Aguero out and I can’t afford Silva. Anya is a total shot in the dark and looks the most attacking of the 4.5s available - not sure he'll even start, thought?

FWDs: Rooney back up front (as it stands, transfer wise) = nuff said, Benteke is Benteke and could move to Liverpool, and Wilson is a cheap yet hopefully surprisingly effective third choice; I also picked him over Deeney because of the fixtures - find it difficult to assess form pre-season.

I know it’s pre-season but I’m hoping not to tinker too much – also have £0.5m ITB.

    Go nuts.

That's a good question. Would he be on more money?

Still, the way WBA closed out the season suggested a pretty settled defence. If the move goes through, I can always go Myhill --> Hennessey (which would be cheaper) or Guzan.

I like Mings over Williams, as he's more attacking and better value.

        Will Targett play?

Anya --> Hoolahan is a good suggestion. Have tried to steer clear of Norwich after memories of their last appearance in the Premier League!

I did have Sakho instead of Wilson but was getting too template and the added cash ITB gives me (slightly) more wiggle room for getting Kun/Costa in if one of them explodes.

        Thanks for your feedback 🙂

I've gone Cedric - first choice RB in a team with a good record of clean sheets.

will he get the game time though? Last time he was at Everton he didn't?

He makes Everton better up front. Don't know about his own points, but he should help others like Lukaku

ill be getting him soon as he starts getting the mins. He'll be my Bolasie of last season. I owned him for the two times he did play (1 x assist & 1 x 80th min goal as a sub). not sure if he came off my bench though :S

    Hi guys,

Have been on this draft for a few days now without many changes so am fairly happy with it. Thoughts?

    Fabianski / Ruddy

Ivan Cedric Dawson / Huth (Targett)

    Haz Silva Ritchie Fabregas (Wanyama)

    Gomis Rooney Deeney

£1m ITB to bring in Sanchez c. GW3, may try to find room for Aguero as well after that.

Hazard and Fabregas? Could get rid of Fabregas and bring in Ozil/ Ramsey so you have Arsenal attack covered.

Hazard is more of a long term acquisition but I expect both of them to start well - Fabregas typically gets most of his assists and goals in first half of season.

Too much uncertainty in the Arsenal midfield for me until Sanchez returns and I figure that Fab will outscore the Arsenal mids initially.

How about downgrading Dawson?? Personally I don't like to invest too much initially on defenders.
