The Weekly Shop – Gameweek 3

Our new mid-week regular arrives for your perusal this evening, as we take an early look at those players currently under consideration for our squads across weekly and daily Fantasy Football games.

We’ve divided this early scouting into two sections. The “Better Buys” will look at the key players for the week ahead, generally assessing those in-form assets who are braced for a promising fixture. The “Poundstretchers”, on the other hand, are the Gameweek prospects that should offer excellent value – often one-week punts, whose lower price tags enable funds to be spent on the big-hitters elsewhere in our lineups.

In this week’s article, we take a look at what’s on offer in this week’s two featured games Fantasy Bet and PlayON…

Better Buys

Manchester United’s Sergio Romero has kept back-to-back clean sheets in David de Gea’s absence and is the highest scoring goalkeeper in Fantasy Bet, with 18 points so far. The player prices in Fantasy Bet are not influenced by the value changes in the official Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game until later in the season, so the Argentine is still available for 5.0m and is also reasonably priced at 7.1m in PlayON.

Investment in Crystal Palace’s backline looks a viable tactic as Aston Villa visit Selhurst Park. The Eagles are yet to keep a clean sheet but Tim Sherwood’s visitors, alongside Stoke, have recorded the joint fewest attempts on goal so far. For 4.5m in Fantasy Bet, assets such as Joel Ward, Damien Delaney and Pape Souare have all registered attacking returns in the opening two weeks – the latter is even a cut-price option in PlayON at 6.4m.

Further up the pitch, Alan Pardew’s side look to have carried on their attacking threat from the end of last season. Yohan Cabaye promptly reminded us of his quality with a goal in the opening match at Norwich and could prosper against Villa – the midfielder is available for 6.5m in Fantasy Bet and 8.3m in PlayON.

We’re also eyeing up Manchester United’s midfield as they host Newcastle, with the misfiring Wayne Rooney overlooked. Memphis Depay’s (Fantasy Bet 9.5m, PlayON 10.4m) mid-week brace against Club Brugge has put him on our radar for the weekend, while Juan Mata’s nine points in Fantasy Bet against Aston Villa, including all three bonus points, makes the Spaniard another viable option for 8.5m and 11m in PlayON.

Swansea and West Ham are both in our thoughts with at least one option from each of their attacks likely to make our weekend squads. Andre Ayew and Dimitri Payet both scored last Gameweek and should offer plenty of support again to Bafetimbi Gomis and Diafra Sakho. The Swans travel to a struggling Sunderland side that conceded three to newly promoted Norwich and, ominously for the Black Cats, the in-form Gomis (available for 7m in Fantasy Bet and 9.9m in PlayON) is looking for a third goal in three matches. Although Sakho is yet to get off the mark for the Hammers, visitors Bournemouth offer the Senegalese striker a chance to open his account for the season – he is a cheaper alternative to Gomis, with price tags of 6.5m in Fantasy Bet and 9.0m in PlayON.

Poundstretchers

We return to West Ham for this week’s stand-out budget keeper. Darren Randolph is likely to make his league debut for the Hammers and take the suspended Adrian’s place between the posts as the Cherries visit Upton Park. The Irish international is available for a cut-price 4.5m in Fantasy Bet and 5.5m in PlayON.

Norwich’s Russell Martin’s 1800-point haul was only outscored by Vincent Kompany in PlayON last week. The centre-half netted in the 3-1 victory at the Stadium of Light and, as mentioned, with opponents Stoke recording the joint fewest attempts so far this term, Martin looks a solid budget option at 4.5m in Fantasy Bet and 6.3m in PlayON as the Potters visit Carrow Road. Nathan Redmond (Fantasy Bet 5.5m, PlayON 7.8m) has also caught the eye with back-to-back goals from the wing and looks to be the main threat for the Canaries, with striker Cameron Jerome yet to find the net.

We’re also looking at Swansea’s assets again in the budget midfield bracket and there are a couple of alternatives to Ayew and Gomis for those squads where funds are tight. Jefferson Montero (Fantasy Bet 6.0m, PlayON 7.6m) and Jonjo Shelvey (Fantasy Bet 5.5m, PlayON 7.9m) both recorded an assist in the 2-0 win against Newcastle and could make the difference again at Sunderland, also enabling the likes of Sergio Aguero to find a place in our teams this week.

Last week we backed Troy Deeney (Fantasy Bet 5.5m, PlayON 8m) to bag a first Premier League goal. The Watford forward was frustrated again by West Brom but being in the top four forwards for attempts over the opening couple of Gameweeks keeps the striker in our thinking as the Hornets welcome a Southampton side that have conceded five in two matches.

These are the players on my radar ahead of this weekend’s weekly contests. On Friday, I’ll be back with a further look at both this week’s partner games – Fantasy Bet and PlayON – as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

This time last week I hit the WC button by accident and shifted out Haz, Walcott, Rooney and a load more, I then made a mistake tinkering and got left with Silva & Westwood over Ayew & Coutinho. Was very nervous going into Friday night.

Played Benteke captain and ended up with 78 points after Monday night with my team now looking like this going into GW3 and 0.5m itb and 1FT

    Mignolet, MCarthey
    Shaw, Gomez, Targett, Oxford, Layun
    Silva, Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez, Westwood
    Aguero, Pelle, Benteke

My point......whatever you do will be a gamble all you can do is make the best informed judgement and/or take a gamble. Ultimately it's out of your hands and your mistake may end up a fantastic fluke.

Layun and Oxford my concerns but can't see a better option (guaranteed return) at 4.5-5M this GW so may save FT to have 2 going into GW4 to make a better impact.

My wildcard team is looking like this atm:

    4.5 / 4.5
    Darmian, Kompany, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5
    Silva, Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez, 4.5
    Agüero, Gomis, Diouf

Would have 0.6 left ITB. Which moves would you make to fit Benteke in for GW6 ?
    Looks like Gomis + ??? ---> Benteke + ???
Bad idea going with Ayew instead of Silva this week and leave enough money ITB to do Ayew ---> Silva next GW ? Or maybe pick Ayew instead of Payet ?

    1. Lazarus Star
      • 10 Years

Get Benteke now I would instead of Diouf.
Go 5m & 4M on def. Famianski plus McCarthey maybe.
Silva won't be a regret. You have cover with Gomis which goes better with Payet.
I'd be inclined to downgrade Kompany (he can't keep scoring goals) and work Barkley or Depay in.

I think you can't ignore form (if two GWs class this) but you need to consider both next GW and next 5-10 GWs. The latter will always be served with a top four/five big hitter (e.g Kun, Silva, Sanchez etc)

    @ Wildcarders

When spending 13.0 - 7.0 - 5.5- 6.5 for strikers what is your plan when players like Benteke, Giroud etc. start eventually banging goals?

Are you leaving money itb, taking hits or have "banker" players.

    1. Mull

      They aren't looking past GW3.

Well I don't want to be one of those 🙂

Same as always. Consider where to downgrade.
Most will have at least 1 premium DEF and 2 premium MIDs. 2 FTs will allow a striker upgrade.

    Azpi,Kos,Coates,huth,Targett
    Hazard,Ramsey,Mahrez,Silva,Wanyama

    0.5 itb.

1.Perhaps getting rid of Azpi>Kolarov/Kompany till they tighten up and Kolarov/Kompany form drops.
    or
    2.Also option of Hazard+Benteke>Ayew+Aguero -4

    Hi All,

    Hows my team looking?

    Hart, McCarthy.
    Martin, Francis, Richard, Cedric, Cresswell.
    Albrighton, Montero, Chadli, Silva, Sanchez.
    Diouf, Pelle, Aguero.

    Thanks!

Which one of your front 8 will you be subbing? I'd possibly downgrade Hart and get a MCI defender instead.

Yeah me too. Obviously each individual is different and will have their own reasons for doing it or not. Impossible to know right now if it was a bad decision or an excellent one. Mark, Jonty and Triggerlips are all on wildcard this week, they're no mugs

It purely depends on your team. Triggerlips has had a dire start, so he had to wildcard. There is no right or wrong but people on WC seem to think it's the right decision so everyone should (and vice versa with non-wc'ers)

          Mark/Jonty I haven't looked into.

Nah, this isn't directed at people in particular. Just a general feeling i'm getting from the forum, suggesting we're all going to regret doing it so early. Impossible to know that

On the flip-side I think WCers show a similar attitude to non-WCers (i.e they are wrong and should have wildcarded).

Oh well, only a few days before we see if it was worth it!

I've tried my best not to be smug and have reasoned discussions with people about why I chose not to.
But I do hope Rooney and Hazard explode, that would be just....

Yep, again, not really pointing fingers at anyone, i'm sure wildcarders are probably guilty of the same. Just saying there isn't a correct answer to who's right or wrong to do it when. Enjoyed the discussions with you and other posters over the last few days.

I don't mind Rooney exploding, and that would be great for you. I've decided it's not feasible to get both him and Aguero, so happy to ignore with his current form. Hazard would be a problem though, assuming i don't get him in my eventual wc team.

It has nothing to do with the WC ( the smugness ), people around here act smug for whatever reason beit a captain fail, a big haul, score checks.....etc

As for the WC debate, there isnt really a right or wrong decision, its all about the state of the team and how well you think your current team would perform for the rest of the season

    Hello chaps

    Really undecided on the whole silva/hazard - payet/sakho - Ayew/Gomis conundrum

    Team atm is

    McCarthy (Myhill)
    Kolarov Darmian Muniesa (Gomez Richards)
    Hazard Sanchez Ayew Chadli Mahrez
    Aguero Sakho Ighalo

Obviously Silva allows me to have the Payet Gomis combo though no Chelsea coverage - also slightly worried about Depay now - what do you all think - any thoughts appreciated x
