Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 3

We move onto Gameweek 3 and, as always, take a look at the Sky Sports game, assessing the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 2 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Aston Villa vs Man UnitedDaley Blind
Southampton vs EvertonRomelu Lukaku
Sunderland vs NorwichNathan Remond
Swansea vs NewcastleJonjo Shelvey
Tottenham vs StokeStephen Ireland
Watford vs West BromOdion Ighalo
West Ham vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Crystal Palace vs ArsenalSanti Cazorla
Man City vs ChesleaSergio Aguero
Liverpool vs BournemouthChristian Benteke

Six midfielders and four forwards claimed the awards last week. A number of budget/mid-price options in midfield are staking a claim for a spot in our squads. Riyad Mahrez now has back-to-back MoTM awards and is the top scorer with 29 points, all for just 6.0m – with a kind fixture list to come, he’s the stand out option at this point. Nathan Redmond, at 5.5m, is also looking a great option – tipped as a MoTM magnet in our previous article, he seems to have also added more goals to his game and looks another good acquisition. Jonjo Shelvey, at 6.3, also looks great value – at 0.2 less than Andre Ayew, he also has the potential for bonus points in his locker and is in fantastic form right now.

Gameweek 2 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers picked up bonus this week – Boaz Myhill was the only one to also manage a clean sheet and brought in nine points for his owners.

In defence, 14 players grabbed bonus, nine for tackles and five for passes completed. Ashley Williams managed a staggering 102 successful passes and was just one tackle short of picking up both bonus points on offer. His team-mate Kyle Naughton can count himself unlucky as he just missed out on both by six completed passes and one tackle – at 5.3, he is currently looking the best budget defender on offer.

In midfield, there were 14 beneficiaries in total: nine for tackling and seven for passes. Cesc Fabregas and Aaron Ramsey were the two to pick up both and are always in the mix for bonus to help them tick along.
Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

AdrianWest Ham4.81.97%

Adrian’s three-match ban and Ryan Bertrand’s ongoing injury have seen both subject to heavy sales. A lack of form from Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney has persuaded their owners to look elsewhere.

Fantasy managers are clearly keen to acquire City’s in-form pair Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany. Bafetimbi Gomis has netted in each of Swansea’s opening fixtures, whilst Liverpool left-back Joe Gomez and Leicester’s Mahrez offer budget-friendly options further back.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes
It’s taken four transfers but I’m happier with my team now and getting it right early is important, so I always afford myself extra changes at the beginning. There’s more to follow in the coming weeks before hopefully – injury permitting – it settles down. With some nice fixtures to follow, David Silva will be coming in for Christian Benteke as the little Spaniard has continued where he left off last season. Sadio Mane and Max Gradel will stay in for now until their schedules turn for the worse and then I’ll reasses the pair, with Swansea assets, Yohan Cabaye and Xherdan Shaqiri on my radar. Adrian managed to pick up a red card against Leicester and is now banned for three matches but I’ll stick by him and just take the hit as I don’t want to use a transfer on a goalkeeper if I can help it.

Captain Plan
I’m undecided whether to bring Memphis Depay in as captain for Benteke in United’s clash against Newcastle. If I do, it gives me two captains for this week but at the expense of a transfer and I’m not sure I would want him long term, so potentially that’s two transfers and I have already used four. It’s one for me to ponder on Saturday morning but at this stage I’ll likely just opt for one captain – in the form of Sergio Aguero – for Man City’s match away to Everton on Sunday. This works out nicely as Aguero will then be my skipper next week on Saturday at home to Watford.

Otamendi 6.5, and there was us hoping for 5.5!

    Thauvin (NEW) MID 6.5
    Diamanti (WAT) MID 5.5
    Inler (LEI) MID 5.0
    Pedro (CHE) MID 9.5

          still ridiculous

price him at 6.0 by all means, but 6.5.

I think they know what they're doing. It's not their job to make players interesting, but make the game interesting overall. That's where that price comes from, in my opinion.

Crazy pricing, especially Pedro and Ottamendi are at least 0.5 over-priced. How they are more than Fabregas and Kompany is bewildering.

He could become fixture proof and every year he is maturing. Tough choice but a gamble on A is not out of the question and Luk fixtures are tough!

By that rationale he would be a no-brainer......at a nice price. I've got him in my WC team atm but unsure if I have the stones to keep. City Swansea and Utd are the games I would most fear a blank and 2 of those are at Goodison.....Think he could be a massive differential

Brass vs. Brains is the thing here definitely.

For me it essentially boils down to Payet or Lukaku, as I don't want both Ayew and Gomis.

(btw, is that you jack attack?)

I prefer Lukaku over Payet due to pens.....Gomis already has a pen so (My) logic says greater chance of Eve penalty before another Swans pen.

Really think I will stick on Luk, his price makes him easy to down grade if wheels come off.

No Im not jack attack, just an irregular poster/lurker.

              Enjoed the debate. Cheers

Good for you! (re: jack attack) 8)

I have claimed Lukaku is woeful against settled defences for a couple of years now, so with these record breaking fixtures, I'll have to put the money where my mouth is.

Anyway, good luck. We need a secret Lukaku hand shake for the coming GWs I reckon.

Anyone getting dejavu? I remember last season, started without aguero before pouncing on him.. Many started with Rooney and he quickly flopped. Kolarov became a mini bandwagon (and then clichy took his spot). Chelsea started off conceding goals (and then tightened up). Swansea started off on fire. West Ham looked great (and then didnt)

    It is all on repeat.

    Anything else repeating itself?

Just been debating Otamendi's price with applebonkers

His argument is that Otamendi isn't over-priced, Kompany is under-priced (or at least I think that's what he was getting at)

Essentially his point is if the Kompany that has started this season had been present last season then he too would have been priced at 6.5

Can't disagree with applebonkers. The aim of pricing is to pick a fair price with the information at hand. If the prices were being made right now Kompany would probably be 6.5 too but they can't change that now.

But Otamendi is 1m more than Mangala, and I don't see how he's more assured of starts than Mangala was 2 weeks ago. If it's due to City's good defensive start, it seems a small sample size to justify 6.5. As I said above, if we're using the last 2 weeks' form, a Chelsea attacker shouldn't be 9.5!

Mangala has had some very poor games last season.

He won't necessarily improve their defence immediately though, he won't really have an understanding with the rest of the backline, and they may not function as well as a unit. Just seems odd to me, Mangala looked a certain starter pre-season and he was 5.5.

When you think about it, sacrificing Sanchez for Rooney is a bit mad. I just think he's going to score a couple past the Toon, even with him playing so poorly.

Sanchez a better long term option though. Cheers for your input.
