Pretending FPL is now a handicapped race from this GW onwards although 4 GWs from now, I can see a white towel coming in for the sake of my sanity and enjoyment of watching the game.

OK RCA, here are 5 wildcard options for you to ignore. 🙂 I'll leave out the obvious ones - City and Mahrez. And they are not in any special order.

            1. Bournemouth attacker. 4 of the next 5 games are very good for Bournemouth. Wilson is an obvious option for price rises and he does have a tendency to score goals in bunches.

            http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/08/23/the-scoreboard-gameweek-3-sunday-2/?hc_page=40#hc_comment_11043540

However I might go for Ritchie instead as long as he falls this week first (and before you put him in). He should be 5.8 by the weekend. It really depends which (Wilson or Ritchie) suits your squad makeup best, both could be good for price rises over the next weeks.

            2. Diego Costa. All this Hazard or Pedro or Hazard or Pedro stuff misses the point that Costa is the focal point of Chelsea's attack. He usually starts seasons well and now his fitness issues seem behind him he really could be a train to be on. At home to CPL this weekend I'd seriously consider captaining him over Aguero.

Having Costa and Aguero suggests less spent in midfield but I doubt the value of Sanchez and Hazard anyway and there are great midprice and budget options out there to go alongside Silva or Yaya.

            3. Jeremain Lens but only after his projected price fall to 6.4. At PSV (under Advocaat) Lens had 34 goals and 37 assists in 96 league appearances. At Dynamo Kiev his total was 10 goals and 15 assists in 49 matches. He has delivered an assist per game so far, can also play as 2nd striker and will doubtless add some goals in due course.

Unless you think Sunderland will be poor all season he's really a potential bandwagon in waiting. And Sunderland have a really kind run of fixtures with Villa, Bournemouth, WHam, WBA, Newcastle and Palace amongst the next 10 games.

            4. Sigurdsson after his projected fall to 7.4. People are falling over themselves for Swansea assets but not him. He has already hit the woodwork twice and is now in a proper #10 role. As opponents put more cover on Montero and Ayew it will create more space for Gylfi and he will score goals. Just a matter of time in my view.

            5. WBA defender or GK. WBA have a good fixture run and Pulis will always prioritise defensive soundness. Dawson is nailed, Myhill is a good shout too at least until Foster returns.

The reason I'd go for those on wildcard now (and being behind on points) is (a) value, and (b) low ownership. If they do well it will help you climb the rankings quite fast.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying that this was hulked. It was just a comment for RCA who I know takes things like this with a big pinch of salt. I have no pretension to telling anyone what to do with their wildcard.

Would Hazard and to a possible extent Pedro not get more bonus than Costa? Last season he wasn't great for bonus despite the goals. Nice article Lens stats are interesting.

                • 9 Years
                8 years, 8 months ago

Wasn't an article, just a rather lengthy response to a mate (well we have a kind of love/hate relationship). 🙁

Costa and "no bonus" is a misconception in my view and here's why...

                1. In the first half of last season he was adjusting to a new team and they to him. He wasn't much involved in Chelsea's attacking build up and he didn't get many assists.

                2. As the season went on that changed (though he missed quite a chunk of the 2nd half of the season), he became more involved and created more chances for others. He started to get assists but more important he was creating chances as well as finishing.

                3. You can see that trend continuing. He was focal for Chelsea last Saturday and could have been awarded 2 assists rather than 1 as far as I could see. More assists plus more involvement in open play = better BP potential.

                4. Last season was his first in a new league and his calibration was off regarding niggly/nasty challenges and what he could get away with. This resulted in a slew of yellow cards in the first half of the season and culminated in a ban for "stamping". All that is very bad for BPs.

                5. After he returned from the ban he went 12 games without a card as far as I remember. He has toned it down - not totally but enough. Less cards = good for BPs.

                6. "First impressions are lasting impressions" so they say. A lot of the "1 goal, 1 card, no BPs Costa" image that is perpetuated by some on here is based in that first impression. But we are a year on now. Might be worth looking again.

kept 1 player: Mahrez and did not captain him (gw1 best player and bench, gw2 best player not captain, gw3 best player not captain, probably captaining him for gw4)

The WC did take care of 1 injured and 1 suspended player, so now I can screw up my bench instead of fielding the eligible 11. Seeing that the pre-post diff was due to Clyne missed cs on the bench, not going strong for free choice as we speak.

Should I switch or save? I have 1.2m ITB and one Ft. My team:

    Mignolet (Hennessey)
    Mertesacker, Cedric, Francis (Huth, Oxford)
    Hazard, Sterling, Mahrez, Ritchie (Wanyama)
    Aguero (c), Benteke, Pelle

    A. Sterling to Silva
    B. Save
    C. Something else (I'm wanting to improve my defence but ideally would like to improve my attack as a priority). If I go Mertesacker to City, I can't get Silva or Sanchez until GW6.

Nah.. Got a lucky deflected goal... And took a shot that was going nowhere but wide and lucky again a player was there to capitalise. I'll keep my mid as is.. Won't run to buy him

I would like to know the extent of Kosc's injury. Backs are a tricky thing. I hope we get more info as the week goes.

He had a back injury a few years ago, and missed 24 days. (5 games)

Chambers gave away the ball 3 times in his own third, leading to big chances for Liverpool. Will this be subtracted from the BPS after the game, or is the system entirely inadequate in this regard?

      Subtracted during the game

Only dispossesions were subtracted after the game last season. Not sure about this year

'Making an error which leads to an attempt at goal' is -1 BPS, so it depends on whether or not Liverpool had a shot as a result.

Currently playing Kolorov, Johnson and Richards. Mostly due to the fact I own Gomis. Feels wrong benching Shaw

Sort this table by clean sheets then look across to big chances conceded. Seems obvious but its clearly a very good indicator right now of the best defences.

Is Shaqiri going up tonight? Worth switching Mane for him? I would prefer to keep my transfer this week but would like to avoid the price rise.

Can't understand the bonus points for Arsenal (Cech aside). They conceded loads of chances. Meanwhile Liverpool defenders seemed to make many clearances and got nothing.
