Injuries

Treatment Table – Gameweek 5

League leaders Man City have plenty to fret over this weekend, with Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Raheem Sterling all doubtful for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Juventus. There’s worries in the red half of Manchester, too, after Wayne Rooney missed the 3-1 win over Liverpool with a hamstring complaint. Here’s our regular round-up of all the fresh arrivals onto the treatment table…

Crystal Palace

Damien Delaney is carrying a knock so was replaced by Brede Hangeland in the starting lineup against Manchester City, while Jason Puncheon was withdrawn at the 83-minute mark with a knock following a foul by Eliaquim Mangala.

Everton

Seamus Coleman and Muhamed Besic both sustained suspected hamstring injuries during Everton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We’ll have to assess Seamus and Mo and see how they are. But the important thing was that everyone who had to be alert and come on to the pitch was fully focused and I think the strength in the squad is starting to show now. Having those numbers helps you be consistent over the course of the season and clearly it showed today.”

Manchester City

Sergio Aguero was forced off at the 25-minute mark during Manchester City’s trip to Crystal Palace, having taken a strong blow to the knee from a crude challenge from Palace’s Scott Dann. Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini implied that the Argentina international will be touch-and-go for their midweek Champions League tie against Juventus:

“It was an important kick on his knee. We’ll see if he can recover between now and Tuesday. It’s very difficult to say now. It’s important to see how he recovers. We’ll see.”

Aguero, meanwhile, took to Twitter last night to play down the seriousness of his withdrawal:

“Thanks everyone for your concern. I got a hard hit and it prevented me from playing more. It doesn’t seem to be a serious injury though.”

Earlier this evening, he gave another update on his condition:

“I had studies done today, to be completed tomorrow. We’ll have a clearer picture then”.

David Silva was ruled out of the Eagles clash by virtue of an ankle complaint, but Pellegrini is optimstic he’ll recover in time to face Juventus on Tuesday:

“Silva is out as I think it would be a risk for him to take another knock on his ankle. I hope he will be OK for Juventus.”

As for Raheem Sterling, the former Liverpool starlet is expected to shake of a minor hamstring injury:

“Raheem has a problem with his hamstring so I think it was a risk for him to play today. I hope he is 100% fit for Tuesday.”

Manchester United

Wayne Rooney was sidelined for the Red Devils’ 3-1 victory over Liverpool after suffering a hamstring problem in training. He is expected to miss their midweek tie against PSV Eindhoven, but Louis van Gaal believes he could be passed fit for their trip to Southampton next weekend:

“He is injured so we have to take care of him. I think he is very important for us and I don’t to take any risks so that’s why he doesn’t play today. I don’t think he will play against PSV Eindhoven, but maybe he shall play at Southampton. We have to wait and see if he can play against PSV because we still have three days to go.”

Stoke City

Jonathan Walters was not included in the Potters’ matchday squad at Arsenal due to a flare-up of his knee injury. Mark Hughes admitted that the Ireland international will undergo a scan in the coming days.

Tottenham

Nabil Bentaleb missed out against the Black Cats with an ankle injury and is expected to be ruled out for three to four weeks having suffered ligament damage.

Ryan Mason was involved in a heavy collision with Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon while he scored the winning goal. Mauricio Pochettino revealed after the match that Mason will undergo checks on Monday:

“We will assess Mason tomorrow. It was a big knock on the knee. It was a great goal and we showed how we try to play.”

West Bromwich Albion

Jonny Evans was taken off after 85 minutes against Southampton, although Tony Pulis later said that the new arrival likely just suffered cramping.

    Quick A, B or C

    A) Costa --> Wilson
    B) Costa/Payet --> Wilson/Pedro (-4)
    C) Tekkers/Payer --> Wilson/Coutinho (-4)

Do nothing. No reason to think about Payet before you know the results of tomorrow's match, and he's got Norwich and Sunderland after next week.

Thanks! Yeah I was gonna do this on the presumption that payet does nothing tonight!

I need to get wilson in for next week (think he's gonna score big!)

            Who to lose:

            Kun, Costa or Tekkers?

Kun, Costa or Benteke to Wilson for next week? Unless you've got serious plans for the extra cash, I don't see this as a smart move. Wilson's fixtures aren't all that attractive after next week.

Noted.. I'm a big fan of all 3 of these strikers and don't necessarily wanna drop any tbh

well wilson has stoke and watford after, so seems like a good time to bring him in!

Plus, you are about to miss the best window for Wilson, and Benteke to Coutinho is lateral. Don't make moves to be making moves, is what I'd say.

Hey, you've got to follow your gut. If it's my team, I'd be pretty happy with Costa, Kun and Benteke for next week. If you are determined to get in Wilson, at least wait to see what happens on Tuesday with Kun. Your decision might be made for you.

I'd probably sit on it for now, but, as someone mentioned below, you really are going to need at least four playing defenders soon. Kolarov could get rotated at some point. So I'd let Benteke stay for the next two weeks and then consider downgrading to Diouf or Gomis or Sakho or Vardy or Wilson (look at form and fixtures) and use that money to upgrade Oxford and Saylor to guys who play.

Hey guys how do these price rises work?
I brought in Sako on Saturday for 5.5. He rose in price, his info shows 5.6 but if I wanted to transfer him I'd only get 5.5?

There's a 50 per cent tax on sale profits, so to gain 0.1 in sale value he needs to rise 0.2.

The price change fiends out there might enjoy this - I've taken a look at playing the transfer market in the international break: https://fpldiva.wordpress.com/

      • 10 Years
      8 years, 7 months ago

I've always thought the notion was a bit of a funny one since the wildcards stopped counting to NTIs, because people aren't going to suddenly take noticeably more hits than in normal weeks during an international break. This means no change in non-wildcard NTIs and as you concluded no real change in price rise rates.

      1. Diva
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

There may even be a slight drop in price rise rates in the first few weeks of the season relative to the rest of the year because so many moves are happening on wildcards.

Cabaye, easily. Puncheon a close second. Wickham missed out due to a knock and Pardew said something along the lines of us missing his physicality up front. Bolasie/Zaha/Sako is a lottery as to who will start let alone return. Pardew also has shown no reluctance to make halftime subs and change the formation early on which puts all of those players at risk with Gayle, Mutch, and the Korean waiting on the bench. I think if you want to grab one I'd just go Cabaye as he is most nailed for 90, on pens, and has had a couple of chances he's duffed so far. He could easily have 3 goals, and I think he will pop up with a purple patch soon. He's been so good. Puncheon also just for security of start and not someone Pardew ever subs off due to his versatility and also has been playing well this season really picking up where he left off last.

Cause I tell myself this every day. It's really just an educated guess since Jedi doesn't play anymore and Murray is off there is no one else really as an option for me. Judging it off of Cabaye's past...he took pens for Newc under Pardew if I'm not mistaken...

Yeah that's fair enough. I guess there aren't really many other contenders with Puncheon having missed a few in his career and Gayle hardly playing.

Does his deep position and habit of picking up cards worry you at all?

Agreed, from the little I've seen of Palace Cabaye looks to be the best. +1

It's a bit of a Ramsey of yesteryear situation, I think. He is playing withdrawn but still is very near FPL points each and every game.

Thanks mate, appreciate it. Last question for ya, from the small bit I've seen of Palace, Puncheon seems to be on most set pieces, with Cabaye only on a few. Is this correct?

This. And all of the underlying stats support Puncheo over Cabaye. But both are solid picks and, as Walsh mentioned, firmly ahead of the other three. The Sako love is a bandwagon waiting to fall apart, imo.

So I did the dreaded double up on swansea attack. Already had Ayew and replaced Lukaku with Gomis. I wasn't going to get rid of Ayew after he saved my week a couple games ago. Is this really a bad move?

Hello all. Another wonderful GW for most of us ;-). Keep you chins up; brighter days ahead.

    Team atm

    Butland, Ruddy
Kolorov, Cedric, Huth, Francis, RIchards (was not an assit, imo)
    SIlva, Payet, Ayew, Mahrez, Mane
    Kun, Pelle, WIlson

    1FT, 1.9M ITB WC intact

Only thing I think worth it right now maybe Pelle->Tekkers or Huth->Dawson. Or even savings til next week and getting in Sanchez. Since scoring, CS and form seems so random atm, not sure there is any reason to panic buy. Thoughts?

    RMWCT:
    Butland McCarthy

    Benteke Aguero Gomis

    How's this lot looking?

I'd be concerned about the defense a little bit. When CL starts, Bellerin and Kol could get rotated, it's not a sure thing that Gomez keeps his place, and Targett is out once Bertrand is back. Maybe replace Gomez with someone you feel is completely nailed on.

I think he is. The only reason he has been overlooked is because people (including myself) have been too scared to double up on Leicester. I still think he is the best cheap striker ahead of Wilson.
