Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 7

Bournemouth await results of Callum Wilson’s knee scan after their top scorer was forced off early against Stoke on Saturday. The Potters have concerns over Xherdan Shaqiri, whilst Man City have worries over a trio of key men after the weekend loss to Tottenham.

Arsenal
The Gunners worries in central midfield were compounded at the weekend after Mathieu Flamini limped off after 21 minutes of Arsenal’s road tie against Leicester City. With Francis Coquelin sitting out the King Power showdown due to a knee problem, Arsene Wenger confirmed that replacement Flamini was forced off early in the 5-2 win due to a hamstring complaint.

Bournemouth
Callum Wilson was stretchered off at the 17-minute mark of Bournemouth’s trip to Stoke City, following a strong challenge from Philipp Wollscheid. Over 150,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have already sold Wilson since the weekend, with Cherries boss Eddie Howe admitting that the initial signs don’t look good for the 5.9-priced striker:

“It doesn’t look good at this moment in time. He’s in a brace and on crutches. He’s in a bit of pain and there’s a bit of swelling there. We won’t know until we get it scanned and properly looked at, but it’s worrying for us. It looks like it could be another serious knee injury. He wanted to carry on and stay on, such is his nature. The physios were aware of there could be a potential injury there and they relayed their concerns to him. He felt he was strong enough, fit enough and able enough to carry on, which wasn’t the case. It was a real key moment in the game.”

Crystal Palace
James McArthur’s run of six successive starts came to an end yesterday in Palace’s win at Watford yesterday. The midfielder was omitted from the first XI after sustaining a minor knock during the week, but did emerge from the bench at the 77-minute mark.

Manchester City
Vincent Kompany, Joe Hart and Yaya Toure are all doubts for Manchester City’s midweek Champions League clash against Borussia Monchengladbach. The former was replaced on the substitute’s bench by George Evans after he felt a recurrence of his recent calf complaint during the warm-ups:

“I don’t think he will [be available on Wednesday]. At the beginning, he was fit to be on the bench. In the warm-up, he felt some problem in his calf. We will see in the way he develops in the next few days.”

Toure, meanwhile, came off after 56 minutes at White Hart Lane with a hamstring tweak and is now touch-and-go for Wednesday’s match-up:

“Yaya had some problem with his hamstring, and we don’t know [if they will be fit]. We must wait for Sunday or Monday to decide if they are 100 percent.”

As for Hart, the English shot-stopper was only fit enough to be named among the subs against Spurs after suffering a minor back injury earlier in the week:

“Joe had a problem with his back during the week. He could train just one day this week, and that’s why I decided to play [Willy] Caballero. Joe was not 100 percent.”

Stoke City
Xherdan Shaqiri was forced off after 54 minutes of the Potters’ home clash against the Cherries with a suspected hamstring problem. Mark Hughes later revealed that the Swiss international is set to undergo a scan today to determine the severity of the damage:

“Xherdan pulled up, but we don’t know how serious it is at the moment. It’s one that we will have to check, we will settle him down tomorrow and get him scanned and see the extent of it on Monday.  Obviously he didn’t stay on the pitch too long afterwards and that usually helps because it doesn’t cause any further damage. We hope it isn’t too serious and we will see how he is first thing on Monday morning.”

My preferred action with Wilson is to bench him this week and save a transfer to deal with him properly next week.

How much value should I expect to lose by, say, this time next week?

    Got him at 5.5m

    Ts

I was in the same boat and I thought of this, but realised that there are some strikers out there with tasty fixtures this upcoming week. I have gone with Sakho against Sunderland for a hit, and hopefully he will score enough to get me the points back.

As he already has fallen 0.1 I think it will be close if he is to fall again this week. I got him at 5.4 so lost 0.1 on his first fall, but decided to wait for Yaya news. Will bench him this week.

Who else thinks they should introduce the 'All or Nothing' chip?

You choose 1 player and their score gets multiplied by 11, while the rest of your team is benched.

Either KDB + Mata or Sanchez + Mata

ARS has some great fixtures GW9-16 (8 total)
MCI has good fixtures GW8-9, GW11-12 and GW14-16 (7 total)

Maybe KDB + Mata for GW8 and Sanchez + Mata from GW9+ ?

      Really tough call

    3. SonOfSteven

Sanchez and Mane for me. Sanchez because he is all you need from Arsenal. City offers alternatives to KdB. Mane because he is on fire atm. Mata won't keep up is stats upcoming weeks me think.

Vardy and Evans imo, Gomez still has a chance to play considering how poor Liverpool have been defensively.

        My defense is

        Dawson | Kolarov | Zouma | Nyom | Francis

        Best 4.7 to replace Zouma?

Just wondering what people think is the best formation to use....343.......Or a 352 that can alternate with a 343=.......

I have just bought in ighalo and considering eventually upgrading my 5th midfielder Westwood to someone like Redmond so I can switch between 343 and 352......

    What do people think?

I rarely use 3-5-2, it nearly always results in me benching big points (Wilsons hat trick in GW3 is an example).

However, sometimes it just makes sense. I will probably go 3-5-2 this week and bench Gomis.

    Begovic
    Cresswell Kolarov Nyom
    Sanchez KDB Mahrez Ayew Hoolahan
    Aguero Diouf
    [Dawson - Williams - Wilson*] £1.3m ITB, 2FTs

    2 Options:

    A) Can I get away with benching Wilson in order to play Hoolahan at home to Leicester, resulting in an upgrade to Ayew > Payet

    B) Wilson > Vardy, play 3-4-3, leaves me with £0.6m but 0.1m off getting Payet.

Or i could get Barkley instead?

Do A and see how bad Wilson injury is, then ship him out week after if needed.

Thanks for the input, i would lose sale value if he drops 0.1m more though. I do prefer the look of A though

With modern day footballers, who knows!

Even the manager's quote leaves some uncertainty:

So Sako got removed on 61 mins. He still had 2 shots in the box yesterday which is good for a midfielder, and over the last 5 gameweeks is one of the most attacking mids in the game.

I'm just wondering if he is nailed on?

Seems to have been favoured so far but if Wickham starts up front then there are only 3 spots for the 4 players (Bolasie, Punch, Zaha the other 3).

I think he is first choice, but with Puncheon, Zaha, Bolasie, Mutch, Gayle, Bamford & Campbell that can play in his role, they do have alternatives. So probably not nailed, but certainly first choice for now. I'm considering him also btw.

My three week rule needs to be extended to 4 weeks.

Shipped out Mane after three weeks of 2 points or less, he has since scored 11, 1, 9, 7.

Shipped out Sanchez after 3 weeks of 3 points or less, and he just scored 20.

Sanchez - Coutinho - Mahrez - Payet (Westwood)
        Aguero - Martial - Gomis

Considered Gomis, but reckon he'll come good with decent fixtures coming and decided non playing defender is more important to change.
Coutinho was also supposed to be short term, but not dropping him after 2 assists.

I'd take the hit but if you can afford to bench the defender I'd strongly recommend Janmath. He's more like Right Forward for Newcastle & they have fantastic fixtures after City game.

More importantly Vardy has both form & fixtures on his side. As he's the top scoring striker atm. even if he blanks couple of GWs his price will still keep on rising.
