Scout Notes – Gameweek 32 – Sunday

Wes Morgan grabs the only goal of the match as Leicester take a step nearer to the title with a fourth successive 1-0 win. Elsewhere, Anthony Martial leaps onto our double Gameweek radars by firing United to victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

Morgan wins it for Foxes

Leicester City stretched out their lead at the top to seven points by way of their fourth consecutive 1-0 win.

Wes Morgan did the damage for the hosts with his first goal of the campaign, latching onto Christian Fuchs’ cross. The latter now boasts four assists and has amassed the second-most bonus points (21) of any defender on the Fantasy market.

Although the Foxes lack a double Gameweek, they have now recorded shut-outs in seven of their previous eight home ties and remain at the King Power Stadium for two of the next three Gameweeks, encouraging investors in their defence to hold tight.

In the wake of his blank against Saints, Jamie Vardy has now failed to net in six successive starts, which will prompt a portion of his 54% ownership reinvest their funds in Romelu Lukaku before Everton’s back-to-back double Gameweeks.

As for Riyad Mahrez, his explosive potential (11 double-figure hauls) should deter many owners from maxing out on double Gameweek players.

Saints struggle on the road again

Southampton were stifled by the Foxes’ regimented defence and were only able to muster two shots on target throughout the encounter.

Ronald Koeman’s side have failed to score in three of their last five away matches and now hit the road in three of the next five Gameweeks, which includes trips to Everton and Spurs, in addition to a home encounter with Man City. Their lack of a double Gameweek and poor defensive record of late (nine goals conceded and zero clean sheets in six) render their squad a relative non-factor during the final stages of the season.

Martials notches United’s winner

Manchester United remain in the hunt for a Champions League berth as they carved out a third 1-0 victory in four outings.

Anthony Martial proved to be the difference between the two sides, bagging his third goal (Timothy Fosu-Mensah assist) in seven starts. Given that Wayne Rooney’s imminent return makes Marcus Rashford a rotation risk, the 7.6-priced Martial represents the choice route into the Red Devils’ attack for their mouth-watering double Gameweek (AVL & CRY).

Man United’s tenth home clean sheet of the campaign underlined the merits of targeting their defence during the double. On that note, both Daley Blind (fatigue) and Marco Rojo (jet-lag) were subbed off at Old Trafford, highlighting the fact that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the safest options for Gameweek 33 wildcarders.

Out-of-sorts Toffees fail to impress

Everton suffered their third straight defeat and have now tasted victory just once since Gameweek 26.

Romelu Lukaku had an afternoon to forget against Louis van Gaal’s charges, mustering a solitary off-target attempt. Nonetheless, the Belgian marksman is sure to be one of the most popular pick-ups ahead of the Toffees’ aforementioned successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat &cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) – indeed, he already ranks top for “transfers in” (62,000) at the time of writing.

For those eyeing up the Toffees midfielders, Aaron Lennon (5.6) was intriguingly handed a central support role behind Lukaku as Gerard Deulofeu started on the right wing. Lennon then switched back to the flank after the young Spaniard was withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Roberto Martinez switched things up at the back, benching Ramiro Funes Mori to facilitate John Stones’ reinstatement in a four-man defence. In terms of tapping into Everton’s backline potential, goalkeeper Joel Robles (4.3) is the standout pick by virtue of his budget price tag, while skipper Phil Jagielka (5.1) – who fired two attempts from inside the box yesterday – seems the safest route into the defence.

With Lukaku not necesarily performing (perhaps because EVE have nothing to play for as the season closes), is there merit in having Lukaku for this week only, then from DGW34 onwards having a front 3 of:
    Mitrovic, Aguero, Martial

Martial is 1.3 cheaper than Lukaku, which for me allows Dann in defence instead of Delaney.

Just not really sure it's worth the transfer to bring in someone else who's going to blank in 35. Fixtures are so good though....

Don't think so. I can't see the nothing to play for argument affecting Everton really - they've had nothing to play for all season!

Also, the use of the cash savings for that upgrade seems terrible!

You'd be transferring one gw35 blank for another gw35 blank to facilitate Dann over Delaney. ( If I've understood correctly).

Trying to keep my side balanced with GW35 in mind, nearly got it but would prefer Lennon over Lanzini. 0 ITB. Any ideas how, would ideally keep Mahrez and Kane.

    Henn Darlow
    Sakho Smalling Gabriel Bellerin Simpson
    Sanchez Lanzini Payet Coutinho Mahrez
    Kane Kun Lakuku

Ha I posted a RMT further down the page nearly exactly the same. Only difference is you have Payet/Mahrez/Lanzini and I have Barkley/Milner/Lingard. If I could afford it I'd have your team. Go for it! Any thoughts on Barkley/Milner/Lingard combo? Looks horrible now I write it.

Am I alone in going with Henn and Darlow?

    Reasons:

    - I prefer Henn over Robles for GW33
    - I don't see any CS for Palace in 34, but then I don't see any for Everton
    - Darlow gives a GK in 35

      Probably.

      36 & 37 favour Robles hugely.

But then 38 will probably be an outing for Darlow due to Howard playing.

Henn won't get anything, whereas Robles may get 2 cleanies (at a push) for rest of season

So what's a par score for 15DGW players? I'm thinking I'll be disappointed with anything less than 120pts.
160pts is do-able. 200pts is not completely out of the question...

Well 60 is a good score for me most game weeks. Take away the 22 for just playing and we're left with nearly 40 in one game week.

          Getting 64 for just playing. Then 40+40 = 80 + 64 = 144. Think 120 is perfectly reasonable.

          MATHS

          What did I do wrong?

60 is a good average score for 11 players. It would be interesting to find out what the avg BB score has been so far this season. I'd say around 80 is a good BB score, and therefore 160 is a good DGWBB score.

            • 12 Years

Not sure I'm seeing where some of your sums are coming from.

            standard 2 points for 11 players in a week = 22

            double gameweek = 44

bench boost for say 3 subs on average = 12 points more

56 points just from playing if everyone only got 2 points.

Average weekly score of even say 50 points means you gain 18 points from CS, goals, assists etc. If we round that up to a nice 20, then you have 20 points x2 for a DGW = 40 points additional to the basic 56

So on an "average" week you should hit at least 100, if your players actually perform including the BB then you should definitely get 120+

          3. Irish Madridista ⭐
            • 13 Years
            8 years, 1 month ago

The players you're choosing however to get 15 DGW players out on the pitch are of a lesser quality than the SGW players you'd normally choose..

For example.. defenders, lots are loading up on Liverpool, Everton, West Brom, Palace, Watford etc just because of the fixtures, and they wouldn't have them players otherwise, so I think that (if you turn your players into SGW players for that 40 points estimate) you could expect less points, like 25/30 (albeit multiplied by two if they play both games).

But it's not as simple as taking your normal decent average and multiplying it by two cause you'd normally have better players, albeit with only one week.

PLUS.. the DGW players will be playing twice in short space of time, tough to over-perform twice in 4 days.

So everyone (myself included) seems to be going with:

    A) Robles & Darlow with Bellerin/Kos at the back

But, given the tricky EVE 33 DGW and the NEW fixture in 35, is the below not a better rotation for similar money?

    B) Cech & Hennessey with a cheaper defender at the back.

Start Hennessey in 33 for their decent DGW and then bench him for the rest (except may STO in 37 when Cech has mcy).

One less fixture in B, but they don't have look better, especially with most being for Cech!

    A) wat/cpl, SOT/eve, liv, BOU, lei/sun, NOR

    B) WAT/EVE, CPL/WBA, sun, NOR, STO, AVL

There are so many rotation risks - some have to be taken. All Everton defenders, apart from Coleman, could be rotated. All of the Liverpool defence could be rotated. Only Smalling is certain to start for United and he is far too expensive and has little goal threat.

I don't think rotation risk is something that can be completely negated - it just needs to be measured.

@Doosra (and others) I mentioned earlier A or B (below) for the what is the better option for DGW34

A). Alexis, Coutinho, Gabriel, Reid (+ minus 8 hit)
B). Ozil, Firmino, Koscielny, Ake (no hit)

    There's this third option;

C). Alexis, Firmino, Gabriel, Reid (-4 hit)

Lots of debate about Mahrez and Kane, but are we all pretty much agreed on ditching Alli with the GW33 WC?

I'd say no, especially with Valencia lurking. LVG clearly has issues deciding who his best FBs are.

Yes, but none before a game during the warm up.. he never scores them.

Unless teams finally figure out how to defend against his free kicks.. take away the wall, give the keeper more visibility and take away Dimitri's point of reference for aiming!

    Right...

With price rises happening tonight and realtively low team value I think today is the day I need to firm up my WCT.

I've tried to give it some balance for GW35 (will trade Barkley to Willian before 35) and looking forward it's also possible to get a full 11 DGWers for 37 if I choose.

    What are your thoughts?

    Robles, Darlow
    Sakho, Smalling, Bellerin, Gabriel, Simpson
    Sanchez, Lingard, Coutinho, Barkley, Milner
    Kane, Aguero, Lukaku

    1. Larry Legend
      • 9 Years

I think I would downgrade either Smalling or Bellerin to upgrade Lingard or Milner.

Thanks. Thinking of downgrading Barkley too. It's really that Barkley/Lingard/Milner trio that doesn't look great...

With Sturridge back is he nailed? I'm guessing so but I'm not clear. Is there best front 4:

      Sturridge
      Coutinho - Firmino - Lallana

      ?

      1. Sjaugen
        • 8 Years

He won't play 180 min, but neither should Coutinho with their fixtures.
The false 9 Firmino is where he really lack up the points, ie when Sturridge is off

Wild Card Fever is making me think of abandoning the more conservative approach I was convinced of going forward with previously (10/11DGW - Keeping season performers with SGWs). Time to step away from the keyboard and reassess in a few days!

    Anyone going with Clyne+Moreno?

The fact Flanagan can only take 1 of their places means pretty much guaranteed at least 1 starts any given game, probably 2. And they're the most attacking Liverpool defs and cheap
