Nicolaou Claims FPL Crown

Dimitri Nicolaou has finally been crowned Fantasy Premier League (FPL) champion for 2015/16 after Manchester United and Bournemouth belatedly brought the curtain down on the season last night.

A member of the Fantasy Football Scout league, Dimitri went into the Old Trafford match level with Jack Manners and eight points clear of Ed Masters after the latter pair clawed back significant ground thanks to a 26-point haul from captain Sadio Mane in Southampton’s win over Palace on Sunday.

Dimitri, meanwhile, was left on edge after the decision to play his All Out Attack chip backfired when Jurgen Klopp opted to leave Philippe Coutinho out of Liverpool’s clash with West Brom on Sunday.

Louis van Gaal’s full-strength team sheet eased Dimitri’s fears. Whereas Jack had no players in last night’s match, Dimitri was able to call upon both Chris Smalling and Marcus Rashford for the showdown against Eddie Howe’s side. Ed, meanwhile, was banking on a standout performance from his sole representative, David de Gea, to stand any chance of clambering to the summit.

Smalling did little to help Dimitri’s cause, though. His late own goal not only denied De Gea a share of the Golden Glove and scuppered Ed’s prospects, it saw the centre-half register zero points in the 3-1 home win.

Instead, it was left to Rashford to help seal victory for the new champion. The youngster’s goal and two bonus points earned his owners eight points and saw Dimitri succeed Simon March as the latest to claim the FPL title.

Congratulations go to Dimitri, then, who can now breathe easy after a nerve-jangling 48 hours brought on by Sunday’s postponement. A special mention also goes to Ed – a site regular who posts under the name “Mo Mane Mo Problems”, he finished top of the Fantasy Football Scout members league – whilst Jake Yates also made it another successful season for the site by taking fourth overall.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Az's £5 Buy-In Cash League Final Update:

Big thank you to everyone that joined my cash league at the start of the season, it's been a really interesting league (I was hovering in 4th-5th for a lot of the season but fell away during the end!). As you would expect with all FFS leagues, the competition was fierce, with Lee Byron a.k.a. 'GoonerByron' the overall winner with an outstanding overall rank of 74.

In a nail biting last day, James Carser, a.k.a. 'Jac the Cat' lost the first place he had been clinging on to for most of the season. He will be frustrated to lose out with an incredible OR of 98.

In third place, some way off first and second place, was Colin B, a.k.a. 'Babyb', who finished with a very respectable OR of 2,729.

Could the winners please check their emails and I will sort out prize money. To remind you, it's 50% of the pot for 1st (GoonerByron), 30% of the pot for 2nd (Jac the Cat) and 20% of the pot for 3rd (Babyb)

Thanks all! Hope you all join again next year 🙂

I thought something was being reported wrong when looking over Dimitri's season.

    3-4-3 (31 times - average 63.4 points)
    4-4-2 (3 times - average 83.7 points)
    3-5-2 (2 times - average 56.5 points)
    5-5-3 (1 times - average 79 points)
    4-3-3 (1 times - average 65 points)

5-5-3 is the bench boost week and I was thinking - that has to be wrong, only 79 points on a bench boost?!

but then I saw his triple captain score - "Highest Gameweek Score : 169"

So his 169+79 = 248 is a good chunk more than my bench boost 153 and TC 59 = 212

Both pale in comparison to the winner of the 'going out with a bang' mini-league

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/121/history/
    Bench boost 125
    TC 157
    total = 282

For you who will play the Euro fantasy, Raphael Guerreiro (€4M) could be a steal as starting LB for Portugal. Coentrao out injured, and Guerreiro is really attacking and scores a lot of points in the Ligue 1.

    Hi all

Well now we can draw a close to another exciting season.

So - what did you think of the chips and Wild card changes?
Would you ditch any of them?
    New suggestions!

    1) Wild Cards: I liked this change as it allowed you to keep a WC for late season but didn't force you to use one within a short period of time (i.e. January. Also this is the first season I've used a WC early.

    2) Bench Boost: I enjoyed it and its synergy with a WC is enjoyable (if a little stressful)

    3) Triple Captain: A bit "Meh" - next season I'll use it on Aguero at home during one of his mad goal scoring runs.

    4) All out Attack: I didn't use it - I feel this is a chip that will lose you points. It's hard to find a 5th mid better than one of 3 defenders.

    Suggested chips (replace AoA):

    1) Fly Keeper - play a defender in goal. He scores as a defender.
    2) LvG Keeper Swap - allows you to swap your keepers AFTER they have played!! (for the once a season when you have 15 point keeper on the bench!)

See ya all next season!! 🙂

My response is probably going to be interpreted the wrong way and sound a bit ungrateful/ snobby but it's not what I intend

I had my best rank of 754 this year, with a little help from the chips.

AOA was a fail, as was Bench Boost thanks to rotation in the DGWs.

Triple (C) was a success on Sanchez in the DGW (72 points?) but to be honest I found the chips annoying.

They seemed too much of a way to bring players "not good enough" up the ranks that didn't necessarily plan ahead, etc, etc. And on the flip side, a player that did plan ahead but just had bad luck with the wrong (C) or injuries, found themselves being punished.

Frankly, I'd like to see them gone despite them being an aid to my best rank to date. I want to work for my rank and earn it on my own merit rather than by the help of chips.

    DDG
    Boateng - Ramos - Schar - Koscielny
    Brady - Perisic - Grosicki
    Janko - Muller(C) - Griezmann

    ((Shev - Hazard - RSanches - 4.0def)

So with the exception of (obviously) playing Brady over Hazard.. look ok? 🙂

Really annoys me that Damien Delaney didn't get a call-up to the Ireland side

Playing top flight, with an FA Cup final this year too.

And who was picked ahead of him?

Ciaran Clarke (constantly in and out of a relegated Aston Villa side), Alex Pearce, Shane Duffy and Stephen Ward 🙄

It's a mystery to me how Stephen Ward even gets a sniff.

It always comes across to me like the Ireland set up see themselves as more of a club than a country, and that they pick players based on who has been "at the club" the longest so they don't have to try fit in. We suffer with absolute wastes of space in the squad as a result.

I swear to god if Glenn Whelan starts every game and we crash out again I'll find him and drive a shin guard up his arse.

I used to say the same thing about Keith Andrews and he ended up being our best player in 2012, though we were the whipping boys that year, combo of worst group + worst squad + worst manager.

I always thought Keith Andrews was a decent player in our half and a crap player in the opposition half...

Glenn Whelan however, in my own opinion, is the equivalent of playing with 10 men and not realising it.
He can pass the ball, sure, and he has on occasion shown himself to be a competent midfielder ON the ball when those around him are playing well.. but he's nowhere near good enough for the amount of carrying his teammates have to do defensively..

I have a big issue with Stephen Ward too, but at least he puts in a defensive shift.

Can't stand Whelan. Or Ward, lad is a liability.

Andrews was Whelan Mark II. Just as slow, couldn't pick a pass to save his life and never wanted the ball. Two players that offered the team nothing except what Stuart Pearce would call "commitment" But no footballing talent.

Shtick me and you in, sure we could give ya commitment.

FPL is over and we're still dreaming of football, I'd say Whelan is the type of guy goes home after the season's over, throws out his boots, and takes up pottery.. just as slow and pointless as himself.

We have a decent LB in Greg Cunningham.. and two very good RBs in Seamus and Christie.. Even Wilson is a better LB than Ward.

Who am I to argue with the powers that be though... Maybe it's my naivety but I just don't get how these people are paid so, so much to decide on THOSE players..

I do not think we have had decent centre mids in a long while . McCarthy , Whelan , Andrews etc look like they are afraid of the ball when they play for Ireland . They never drop deep and try and get on the ball instead we hoof it up and hope for the best. It's a shame Steven Reid struggled with injuries.

Haha often the way with biopics. I'd never listened to that much Joy Division before I saw the film so it was a pretty raw introduction. They don't make em like that any more.

They certainly don't. A tough upbringing certainly made them very determined to make it and produced some amazingly dark music. This is a very good documentary if you're a big fan -

Known as an advocate of 3-5-2...reverting to 3-4-3 as plan B.

Could mean that the wide roles go to players listed as defenders. If nailed they could be great Fantasy options. One to monitor.

If only he were here next year...

For what it's worth, Holebas is an excellent wingback, so if he doesn't leave (which he very well might, complained a lot this season), he'd be a brilliant option. Could stay at 4.0 as well.

His last game at Inter, he said in the post game interview:
"We played well until it started raining" 😆
                He was sacked afterwards.

I rate him though as I said before, he likes the physical players more than the technical ones which may be good to PL structure. One of his problems is that he doesn't trust young players, Kovacic and Icardi were usually on the bench in his first season although they were the best we have.

He has a good record in getting the best of his strikers, so Ighalo and/or Deeney could be great options under him. Cavani, Pazzini and Palacio for example had the best season of their carriers imo under him.

Here we are lads. Some random Euro 2016 stuff that you've all been waiting for.

    Group A...

France: Lloris; Sagna, Varane, Koscielny, Evra; Diarra, Matuidi, Pogba; Griezmann, Giroud, Martial/Coman.

Ok so a few little notes to follow here. This team is a bit harder to predict given that they only played the predetermined friendlies UEFA set up but i'm fairly confident that this is France's likely lineup.

Romania: Tătărușanu; Mățel, Chiricheș, Grigore, Raț; Pintilii, Hoban; Torje, Maxim, Ad.Popa; Andone.

Romania's most frequent right-back for qualifying; Paul Papp; hasn't been included in the provisional Euro 2016 squad, so i'm predicting Mățel to take his place over Săpunaru. Besides that, the back five(GK included) and double pivot of Pintilii and Hoban has been consistent throughout qualifying and recent friendlies.
Behind the striker, the manager is the only one who really knows(and judging by recent selection i'm not sure he really does). Winger Gabriel Torje should be one of the three and whilst Alexandru Maxim mainly featured from the bench during qualifying the Stuttgart man should make the #10 role his own during the tournament.
Claudiu Keserü had started recent qualifying matches as the lone striker but Florin Andone's 18 goals in 33 games in Spain's second tier makes him the form man, with Andone started Romania's most recent friendly with Spain.

Albania: Berisha; Hysaj, Cana, Mavraj*, Agolli; Abrashi, Kukeli, Xhaka; Roshi/Gashi, Lenjani; Cikalleshi.

As the squad isn't out yet, Mavraj's injury status is somewhat unknown, however if he is fit, he should be national hero Cana's central defensive partner. Taulant Xhaka's fitness is also in question after suffering a muscle but the hope is that the Basel man will be fit to face his brother in France.
Besides the centre-back issue, the only other conundrum for Gianni De Biasi is whether to play Roshi or Gashi on the right-wing.

Group B to follow of you likey...

      Ok, I missed Switzerland.

Switzerland: Sommer; Lichtsteiner, Klose/Djourou, Schar, Rodriguez; Xhaka, Behrami, Dzemaili; Shaqiri, Drmic, Mehmedi.

Klose/Djourou will be interesting, Djourou has been a mainstay during qualifying but Klose has come in for recent friendlies. Any of Drmic, Seferovic or youngster Embolo could start up top, no stand out here.

If you are able to do in match day transfers I'm thinking of having Alba and Rodriguez (Expensive and in huge attacking threat), and then the other 3 defenders in the value of 4.0-4.5 to enable a seriously strong set of attackers, due to them all being priced so highly.

My thinking behind this is as surely one of your extreme budget defenders will play and potentially do well (looking at the likes of Guerreriro/Denayer/Matel).

Just a thought, may not work well at all.

"Yes," Wenger told the BBC when asked if he anticipates Giroud starting next season as his primary striker.

"I believe that Danny Welbeck being out now for a long, long time we will be on the road to look for one more striker.

"After that it's down to compete. Olivier has strong and weak moments so we have to deal with that.

"He is a bit unbelievable - he is in cycles. He scores in spells and then sometimes he scores less," Wenger added.

To be fair to Wenger the interviewer straight up asked him if Giroud would be the main striker next season, he didn't just come out and say it of his own accord. Don't think you can really expect Wenger or any manager to answer that question with "no, he won't be, I'm gonna buy someone better."

This is a fair point given the context. He HAS to buy a striker though, there really is no excuse. Morata links aren't going away.
