The Community Round Up

New faces to the Premier League, both on the pitch and in the dugout, come under discussion among our hot topic posters this week. There is also still plenty of chat about Euro 2016, with tournament winners, card magnets and top performers the main issues of interest. Members have also been busy gathering the best statistics so far during the tournament and with the quarter-finals now in full swing, we also catch up on the current leaders of our Euro 2016 community tournaments.

The Community Articles

For those already looking for the next challenge in management, Balders dropped by with his guide to the Fantasy Tour de France game that starts this weekend.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Eric Bailly has become the latest recruit to the Premier League after signing for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. The Ivory Coast international looks to be the prime candidate to partner Chris Smalling in defence, prompting us to ask for your views on his prospects and those of the other new faces to the English top flight.

Among 2016/17’s new managerial appointments, Antonio Conte at Chelsea is attracting considerable interest, in particular among those such as Berbinho’s Forehead ,who are in search of Premier League clean sheets. Conte’s impressive management of the Italy side during Euro 2016 is giving many cause for optimism. One of his imminent new signings, Belgian international Michy Batshuayi, is also garnering attention, from Somalian among others.

With the tournament’s quarter-finals now underway, Slavic Madrista canvassed the community’s views on which country will win Euro 2016. Balders, meanwhile, has been keeping a close eye on the tournament’s suspension tightrope to highlight those players who are a booking away from missing out on a semi-final berth should their team progress. The community also gave their views on the players that are likely to make their tournament dream XI.

The Members Tables

Belgium’s attacking threat came under the watchful gaze of Camp no no’s latest table as well as the most recent statistics from Bowstring92 this week. This will also prove interesting reading for those considering drafting in the Red Devils’ key Premier League stars at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, such as Eden Hazard. Staying with Euro 2016, I’ve also tweaked my set piece specialists table to show who the tournament’s most successful corner takers and free kick takers are so far.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Going into tonight’s quarter-final Milanista topped the FFScout official Uefa Euro 2016 game. Meanwhile, in the FFScout moderators and contributors league Greenwindmill continues to lead, closely followed by Andy85wsm.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Don't trust any of them Nidge. Cameron bought in a measure to save £7m a year . It actually lost £140m in the first 6 months. Pure incompetence which if he had been in business would have been sacked on the spot. Kept it covered up so well no one knows about it. Always keen to make sure public are aware of successes , failures buried. Tosspenguins the lot of them.

Kanu trapped the ball, took a touch to turn and finished: 3 touches, all in the space of a few yards, beating two defenders:

Hazard took about 7-8 touches, ran about 15 yards and beat 3 players before shooting:

That's some mighty loose logic to 'beat' Denayer man.

But ok to entertain you, they beat an equal number of players but Kanu stayed in place while Hazard ran about 20 yards more and actively beat his 3 players as he ran in between them whereas Kanu actively beat 2 (not Denayer).

My point is that the turn took three players out the game, if that isn't creating a chance I'm really not sure what is.

I agree they are different goals, but both players created the chance themselves

Yes the fault lies with UEFA because by their rule you'd arguably think only first time shots weren't created by the goalscorer..

"Solo RUN". Kanu didn't "run" so assist stays. End of discussion. 😎

No, it says e.g. solo run/dribble. The rule is vague and the interpretation is subjective.

I had Ramsey in my team by the way. I'm not writing from sour grapes. But I did have to check whether an assist had been awarded because I wasn't entirely sure it would be. 😕

People should really stop comparing Kanu's goal with Hazard's...I know there's no specific definition of what qualifies as an individual goal (fault UEFA) but the two goals are very different..

Kanu trapped the ball, took a touch to turn and finished: 3 touches, all in the space of a few yards.

Hazard took about 7-8 touches, ran about 15 yards and beat 4 players before shooting.

Kanu beat one defender, I'm not even going to count that lump Fellaini who couldn't even be bothered to track 3 yards to hassle Kanu (god..)

      The goals aren't comparable.

Whether Kanu created his own opportunity is, however, not debatable. Obviously he did. Ramsey put him in a position to do so. In other words assisted the goal.

KDB put Hazard in a position to score his goal too. Both were assists. But when you have a phrase like "no assist is given to a player who creates his own goalscoring opportunity" in the rules (which actually only says that a player can't get points for assisting and scoring the same goal) then you are opening up a whole can of subjective worms.

I think it is entirely reasonable to point that out.

Maybe so, but hazard was 30 yards out when he received the ball, kanu was 12 yards. Kanu had great touch to create space while haz dribbled past 3/4 defenders. But in reality, I agree that they both were assists

        1. Ruth_NZ

That's because that's how Hazard plays. KDB gave him a perfect, weighted pass to put him in position.

Imagine it had been Bale receiving that pass instead of Hazard. He'd probably have taken one or two touches to take the ball direct into the box and smashed a shot past the GK. An assist would then have been awarded. Same pass, different outcome. Why? Because Hazard is a different type of player than Bale.

          It really makes no sense.

I can see what your saying, but I can understand how the scoring awards assist for pass/shot but not pass/dribble/shot. Definitely don't agree but at least it much more straightforward and fair in normal fpl 🙂

hazard recieved the ball while running and had only free space and half a defender in front of him, he just decided to do his usual 'move to the center and shoot' thing to further improve his position
robson received the ball while staying backwards to the goal with 2 defenders between him and the goal and fellaini coming as well, so he really HAD to dribble to get into a shooting position

I wouldn't agree with Robson one really, I think it was more clever touch than a dribble. But I think then your starting an argument over what is a dribble

The oversized bog-brush playing with Dembele riding the pine; well done Wilmots, hope the Belgian FA will finally come to the conclusion the rest of the world reached well before the World Cup of 2014. Too bad for this talented group of players, luckily they are by and large young enough to still have a couple more gos in big tournaments.

          Really not.

          Let's say Bale/Ramsey = Hazard/KDB.
Let's say the defences are also on a par (I think that's reasonable).

That leaves Courtois v Hennessey, Lukaku v Robson-Kanu and Ledley/Allen v Naingolan/Witsel. All clear wins for Belgium on paper.

In other words, Wales had to surpass themselves to win. Which they did, partly through excellent tactics which led to a very good defensive performance and partly because Robson-Kanu somehow managed to out-perform Lukaku on the night.
