DraftKings Wednesday Player Picks

With the Euro 2016 semi-final stage set to get underway at 8pm tonight, we bring you news of a DraftKings offer that’s exclusive to Fantasy Football Scout.

If you’ve yet to register with DraftKings, they’re offering the opportunity of free entry to an upcoming contest for the semi-finals, which take place over the next couple of days.

Providing you sign up via this link before 4pm this afternoon, your account will be credited with $4 by 6pm tonight.

Players should then use the credit amount to enter the “EUROS $20k Sweeper” contest.

This contest starts at 8pm this evening and incorporates both semi-final fixtures, with Portugal and Wales going head-to-head tonight before France face Germany on Thursday.

Despite failing to win any of their first five matches in normal time, Portugal are slight favourites for their encounter with Wales.

Fernando Santos’ side lead their opponents by some margin when it comes to attempts on goal (95 to 60) but the Portuguese have been far more wayward with their efforts and managed just 28 shots on target to Wales’ 30.

Chris Coleman’s side are in buoyant mood after sweeping aside Belgium 3-1 last time out. Wales arrive in the last four as the second-top scoring team and have netted ten times to their opponents’ six, thanks to an impressive 16.7% goal conversion rate – higher than any side still remaining in the tournament.

France and Germany are difficult to separate in the other semi-final. The hosts clinched a place in the semi-finals with a devastating 5-2 thrashing of Iceland on Sunday, whilst Joachim Low’s men needed spot-kicks to advance past a stubborn Italy outfit.

The pair are near-identical for total attempts so far, with Germany just edging it by 95 shots to 90, though Les Bleus have been more clinical and netted 11 times to the World Champions’ seven.

As always, DraftKings allows us to scan the teamsheets before each fixture, adjusting your line-ups in search of some last-minute bargains.

Here’s our selection of DraftKings targets to help guide your picks ahead of the upcoming contest.

Gareth Bale – Wales – $9500
With Aaron Ramsey set to miss out through suspension, the Wales attacker’s contribution looks more vital than ever tonight. Set for a fascinating showdown against Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale leads the way for shots on target (14) for the tournament so far and his eye for goal may well make the difference as Chris Coleman’s side attempt to book a place in Sunday’s final.

Antoine Griezmann – France – $9300
Top scorer for the tournament with four strikes to his name, the France forward has thrived since being moved into a central support role by Didier Deschamps. Griezmann has bagged three goals and two assists in his last couple of outings and looks in fine form as the hosts seek to break down a Germany defence that’s conceded just a single goal so far.

Mesut Ozil – Germany – $7700
A secure starter under Joachim Low, the midfielder bagged his first goal of Euro 2016 by netting the opener against Italy last time around. Up against a France defence that’s been breached three times in their last two matches, Ozil will be instrumental to Germany’s prospects tomorrow night – the Arsenal man is number one for both shots on target and chances created for the World Champions and is also joint-top for successful crosses over his five appearances.

Renato Sanches – Portugal – $4800
Handed his first start of Euro 2016 in the previous round, Portugal’s teenage winger showed just why Bayern Munich were prepared to spend heavily to secure his signature this summer. Sanches opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw against Poland and, having played from start to finish last time out, looks to have secured his role in the first XI for tonight’s encounter.

Andy King – Wales –$3700
The Welshman looks a handy option for the utility role in our eight-man DraftKings line-ups. King is favourite to replace the suspended Ramsey in Chris Coleman’s starting XI for the encounter against Portugal and his ball-winning ability in the centre of the park suggests the Leicester midfielder could prove excellent value at a cost of just $3700.

To register an account and qualify for free entry to the contest, please be aware you can only do so via this link.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here and play responsibly.

From below the 'new article' post:

It seems pretty difficult to predict which SF would see more goals. May be 2 low scoring ones with quasi-random attacking returns, but then it's tough to say which teams are most likely to keep CS. Making it difficult to pick players.

Would you agree that the best strategy would be to spread resources quasi-equally on 4 teams, not choosing more than 4 from any team and having 1 playing GK from each pair? Or maybe choose just one from the first pair and then have enough coverage from both France and Germany for the case it fails? And perhaps just have one starting GK?

      1 starting GK.
No more than 2 players from Wales and 3 from Portugal.
Rest should compromise of Germans and French

May I ask why do you play down that Portugal-Wales match?

Them playing each other should facilitate a good score for one team at least, and we'll have the chance to see out which one is it before replacing its players with our France-Germany reserves.

Whereas France and Germany presumably both have the toughest match and if our choices of players fail, we'll have to live with those results.

So, on that basis, you would not be ill-advised to prioritise Wales-Portugal players.

    2. Ziro
      • 9 Years

Tough to chose players from Wales other than defenders/GK and Bale, so going with just 2 there as I think Ronaldo fancies showing Bale who's boss.
Going with 5 from Portugal to balance out the other SF.
4 from France and 4 from Germany round it out for me.

Almost minded to keep Ramsey on the bench in case they qualify for the final, would also mean better balance of 4s as you mention.

      1. Camp No No
        • 10 Years

That's a strategy I've been thinking of as well, but I'm not completely convinced that it's Portugal who will beat Wales and not the other way round. Thus far it has been Bale showing Ronaldo who's the boss. 😉 Or at least who actually can shoot that dead ball and who just thinks his Bale.

And if you think of it:

        Portugal 3 - 3 Hungary
        Hungary 0 - 4 Belgium
        Belgium 1 - 3 Wales

        😉

Disclaimer: I don't think that's how it works. 😆 So, inversely:

        Portugal 1 - 1 Iceland
        Iceland 2 - 1 England
        England 2 - 1 Wales

Doing exactly this. 3 Wales, 3 Portugal, 3 France 4 Germans with only 1 stating keeper. Have a guaranteed 6 players in the final and 6 subs to make it a full 11.

Ronaldo, Renato Sanchez & Guerriero from Portugal

One starting goalkeeper in Hennessey, along with Bale. Can't justify putting Williams or Taylor in.

Rami, Payet and Griezmann from France (along with Umtiti, who won't start but keeping just in case)

Hector, Boateng, Draxler, Ozil & Gotze from Germany.

I think Germany will win, but may balance it out a little by going Pogba instead of Draxler or Gotze. Undecided.

I'm personally going 4 ger 4 fra 4 por and 3 wales. One keeper from each game. Although it's important to prepare for the final don't forget there's a semi as well. Someone's got to win out of the portugal wales game. This combo allows easy transfers to be made to make up 11/12 for the final

      1. Camp No No
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 10 months ago

Thinking a bit the same. I think I can do this pretty well even without wildcarding, so I would still have unlimited choices for the final in the cases of suspensions and injuries.

Or I could just wild card an ideal team for now and trust that I won't lose more than 2 out of my minimum of 7 players already in the finalists, and so could do with just those 6 free transfers.

*Some nice conversations had started back on the other topic, so i'll post this again in case anyone missed it.*

So are there any players you guys are excited about owning next season?
Or any you are keen to avoid?

I'm looking forward to having Zlatan in my team, as a huge fan of his. I've also got my eye on Townsend, as he did so well for me at the end of last season. Suprisingly, i've never actually owned Ashley Williams, but think he could be a shrewd investment as the 5.0 part of my standard

    4.5 / 4.5
    6.0 / 5.0 / 4.5 / 4.5 / 4.5

On the other hand. I'm staying away from Mkhitaryan. Every year I go for a 8.0-9.0 Man United midfielder and it ends in disaster (Mata, Di Maria, Depay). Gone are the days of Ronaldo and Nani... may grab myself Shaw (if fit) however.

      Few on the watchlist

Redmond could be a great prospect. Had him for the DGW last year when he ran riot with Norwich. Can only assume being in a better team (Southampton) will only help him flourish

If he comes in to replace Mané and copy his role then he will be in my team for sure, especially if he's around 6.5m

Mand and Mkhi.. thats very bold. i'd imagine them both to come in around the 9.0 mark.

Not sure about Mane... although Liverpools forward line looks top notch next year. Think i'd rather go for Firmino.

Will be avoiding Ibrahim as I am not convinced he will be great in the PL, but that's my opinion. Also too expensive if you wanna get Kun, which I do.

Funny thing that, fraud rulings are often all over the place.

I saw a case of an English lady who embezzled £500k from her company to spend on a wedding, house deposit, holidays and gambling. She didn't have to pay a penny back but got 3 years in jail. Her annual earnings were something like £40k or so. So for the sake of 3 years salary while in jail, she received 12 years salary from theft. I know you have to factor in the damage jail time will do to her employment prospects in the future etc. but still, I found it bizarre and have seen it happen a lot. Celebs get away with far more though, I agree.

And despite the money embezzled, it's the taxpayer that essentially houses and feeds her for the duration of her time in jail 🙄

Yup. Greed, especially from these massive earners like Messi, gets me riled. I don't take away what he has accomplished, but he and his other tax dodging friends should realise that getting paid untold sums of money to kick a football is an absolute privilege and they should pay their fair share. I don't ask that they be taxed out of existence (though some countries could do with taking a bit more off the highest earners) but pay what is asked of them.

Found BBC articles on these, too, btw. 😉

Anyway, I couldn't find the actual decisions, so tough to say anything.

But when the defendant has spent the fortune (s)he stole, a full restitution is usually impossible. It may then be lowered to a payable level, and then there are limits to how much jail can and is beneficial to be sentenced. Although I'd still see it possible in these cases that they sold their mortgage etc. to pay much more at least. But hard to say how these exactly went without the actual decisions. It's too bad that all news sites, BBC included, are more interested in telling the way the defendants spent the money than the court's opinion.

How's this team looking for the SF games?

    Neuer - Patricio
    Cedric - Taylor - Hector - Guerreiro - Boateng
    Ozil - Payet - Kroos - Sanches - Pogba
    Griezmann - Bale - Ronaldo

    McDonalds game, WC used.

Could maybe swap Griezmann to Giroud to free up funds and also Taylor to Rami although I'm not so sure he'll start which seems odd.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Last time he was out of the side he came straight back in so I'd like to think so but it's a risk admittedly.

Don't blame you for not picking Pogba though, Personally I think he has to come up with the goods eventually so I'm going to keep with him and cross my fingers!

    Present front 3 are

    Giroud Bale Muller

Given stories of possible Giroud injury should I change to Griezmann as one of my 5 transfers at expense of having only one playing goalkeeper (Neuer)? Was going to use 6th transfer for McGovern to Hennessey.

So my main question right now is Bale or Ronny.

Ronny, the best player in the world? Hasn't been that good but nearly as many points as Bale on fantasy anyway. More attacking, doesn't help the defense like Bale. Will probably go through.

Bale has better form and has scored more goals, he scores FKs-Ronny doesn't. Cheaper.

Bale is cheaper but can afford Ronny anyway.

4 of my 4 ML rivals have Bale but just 2 have Ronny. I'm leading ML, so should I play safe with Bale or the probably more scoring Ronny?

    OR

Should I get both Bale and Ronny and transfer out Muller who plays?(2 of my ML rivals have Muller) If this, I will have 12 players who play instead of 13.
    (Bale+Ronny+Kuba OR Bale/Ronny+Muller+7.7 mid)
