This Much We Know – Gameweek 7

A fading Swede, a rejuvenated Brazilian Bobby, West Ham’s one man crusade and the rich array of Fantasy talent available at Stoke City. Bear with us – it’s the lessons learned from Gameweek 7…

Only stats can save Ibrahimovic…
He needed an end product against Stoke but, despite his clocking up another fistful of goal attempts, Ibrahimovic failed to find a way through.

Prior to the Potter’s failure, there was talk that he’d require a double-figure return to quell a fire sale over the international break.

Having blanked, those sales are now underway, with the Swede facing a potential 0.3 price drop by the time he takes to the pitch at Anfield in Gameweek 8.

The statistics offer a crumb of comfort – in fact, it’s almost a whole loaf.

With an effort on goal every 17.5 minutes, there’s only some fella down at the Etihad who can match Ibrahimovic for goal threat this season.

And yet, while we appear to trust Sergio Aguero to overcome his White Hart Lane blank and justify his lofty price tag, patience and belief in Zlatan seems to have worn thin.

Those who are holding can cling to the underlying statistics and refuse to believe that he can go on failing. They may yet have a case.

Nobody puts Bobby in the corner….
Unlike Ibrahimovic, Roberto Firmino managed to silence the doubters.

His 12-point return in South Wales provided an emphatic response to those quick to lower him down the Liverpool midfield pecking order.

Firmino’s importance to the Liverpool cause has always been there for all to see but erratic returns, alongside blossoming team-mates, raised a red flag.

Now we can settle on Firmino, for now at least – watching to see if he can maintain such levels and finally emerge as the key option amongst Klopp’s middle men.

We haven’t got Payet…I don’t think he understands….
Everybody can accuse West Ham of being a one-man team. Dimitri Payet is so celebrated by Hammers fans; they’re almost resigned to it themselves.

Saturday’s extraordinary goal against Middlesbrough highlighted that Payet is willing to take on the opposition on his own to attempt to rescue West Ham’s season.

With opponents now working out that if you put a tall bloke on Michail Antonio, you can cut off West Ham’s goals, Payet’s one-man mission is well-timed.

But such a crusade is not yet enough for us to take notice.

No Fantasy manager is getting carried away – Payet is set to enjoy a very slight rise in ownership but, such is the competition for midfield slots, he remains on the back burner.

Antonio, on the other hand, is already suffering from the volatile and fickle nature of this season’s market – he’s shed over 25,000 owners ahead of Gameweek 8 and a price drop beckons before deadline.

Shining Son is blinding us to Alli’s upturn….
We’re all loving Son Heung-min right now.

He’s got the lot – goals, chance creation, out of position prospects. What’s not to love?

Certainly, Son’s transfer traffic is busy – no player has earned more new owners ahead of Gameweek 8 so far, and numerous price rises are on the way before the next ball is kicked.

We can’t argue – Son shot up a few more levels in our midfield Watchlist: we’ve definitely bought in.

But, in Dele Alli, there is another.

Alli’s form appears to have piggybacked on Son – there’s a new spring in his step, a devil in his play. Suddenly Spurs look to have a cutting edge, and everyone is wondering how a fit-again Harry Kane will fit in.

We’ll take Grant now and worry about the money later…
With every little 0.1 helping to jump aboard speeding form bandwagons, Lee Grant is an unexpected gift.

Relieving Shay Given for the Gameweek 6 draw with West Brom, the loanee keeper was outstanding at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Grant has surely cemented his start while Jack Butland remains stricken, with Fantasy managers pondering short-term investment ahead of an obliging run for the Potters that might just promise the odd clean sheet.

Okay, so doubling with Pickford looks risky business and, eventually, we may be facing an embarrassing lack of riches in goal. But those extra funds now can go a long way, and if Butland’s recovery should hit the buffers, Grant’s shelf-life could even be extended.

And Stoke may even have more to offer…
It was pretty clear that Liverpool would come to regret selling Joe Allen.

We saw, during the summer, that there were elements to his game that failed to get the opportunity to surface at Anfield.

Allen has already flourished at Stoke, with Mark Hughes trusting him with a central role, pushed up behind the striker.

Two goals in two games – nobody is getting carried away – but at 4.8 the Allen option is another unexpected offering from the Potteries.

Shift Van Anholt and we’ll all love Moyes….
So David Moyes is toying with the idea of deploying Patrick van Aanholt as a wing-back, or even a winger.

Having seen the Dutchman defend, he then watched him come off the bench to score a precious equaliser from the wing against West Brom.

By piecing together those two sets of events, Moyes has reportedly started to ponder the idea of playing Van Aanholt as a winger.

Keep us posted David. We’re very interested.

Ranieri has given us fair warning….
We’ve gone right off Leicester City.

We can’t get rid of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez fast enough, and we don’t really believe that Islam Slimani can change matters.

But, defensively, the Foxes have shown promise at the King Power and, with a few flashes of form, we may look again.

However, some chilling words from Claudio Ranieri has already doused those thoughts.

Apparently, he feels he needs to rotate more. That might just mean some more minutes for Ahmed Musa and Demarai Gray but probably not enough for us to even notice.

We miss Leicester City.

Ivanovic was also served notice…
In fact, he had about 18-months of supporters and pundits putting his performances under the microscope before, finally, he gets told to sit on the timber by Antonio Conte at Hull City.

We wondered if the Italian’s shuffle would see the Ivanovic option killed off for good and, while the Serb may well be revived, there’s no question that he faces a mighty battle to regain a starting role.

Particularly with Victor Moses in his way.

No, seriously, Victor had a cracking game and, while he’s playing at wing-back, there’s absolutely no chance I’ll be tempted to buy him.

Everyone’s a winner. Except for Branislav.

Pardew’s dressing up the Benteke air raid…
Alan Pardew is talking up how he’s re-built his Palace side – how they’ve progressed as a team.

Nobody can argue – the Eagles have become a very different proposition over the course of just three or four weeks. Nobody will relish playing Crystal Palace right now.

But, in truth, that’s probably got something to do with the fact that nobody really knows how to handle Christian Benteke and two big centre backs, coupled with an everlasting supply of crosses.

The new Palace are proving hugely effective and us Fantasy managers are left pondering just how much damage Benteke can inflict for his 7.6 price tag.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Firmino Walcott Antonio Redmond Capoue
    Kun Kaku Ibra

1 FT and zip banked. Plan for the week is Ibra out.
Anybody liking the looks of Wilson / Austin or anyone else below 6.6? Would mean I could do Redmond - > Sanchez for free the week after. Worth pursuing?

    Thanks

    My team is:
    Pickford
    Valencia Williams Holebas
    Mane Sterling Antonio Capoue
    Ibra(C) Kun Lukaku

    Foster Barry Collins Amat

I have 2 FT left & 0.6 ITB. I am confused about these plans for a -4 hit:

    1. Ibra+Antonio+Collins—Costa+Son+Koscielny
    2. Ibra+Barry+Valencia/Collins/Foster–Costa+Snodgrass+Koscielny/Bertrand/Cech
    3. Ibra+Antonio/Barry+Collins–Defoe/Deeney/Austin/Wilson/Benteke+Sanchez/Son+Koscielny/Walker(Walker if it is benteke & Son if it is Barry)
    4. Ibra+Antonio+Collins—Austin/Wilson+Sanchez+Koscielny

I know there r loads of options& Its too early to do transfer…But i think the price of sanchez will change tonight.

Any suggestion regarding the team, transfer and Xi would be very much appreciated.

Like the guy who sprints at the start of a marathon. It is a long road and blowing your TC before DGWs (despite what Ruth would say) is a bad bet if you want to be relevant at the end.

Haven't seen their last few games; is he looking just as dangerous? Looking like one of those players that look promising but doesn't produce returns this season. Could be a hat trick right around the corner with Mane mind you.

                I think so.

He's the most natural second striker they have, and seems to look to be on the end of so much. Has had decent returns despite being a little unlucky, imo.

Positionally he look to me like the one who least needs to play well for returns.

I was going to attempt it, but I'm not sure they don't all have the same value in the long run. It's almost a which one does best this gameweek type of thing. I mean, obviously Milner isn't playing as high up the pitch, but he raids down the flank and is on those set pieces. Really honors even for me. If I had to take one, however, I would go with Coutinho.

I think he has the best stats out of all them but for some reason I just can't trust his (in)consistency.
I feel like he might fizzle out like Barkley.

You're right though, who knows who will get the points for Liverpool. It'll be Firmino one week, Lallana the next.

I think I've seen some growth in Coutinho here recently. And, I read where he says he really wants to up his goal production. He is still a bit inconsistent in the finishing department, I would argue perhaps, but I'm liking what I see more than I ever did before with him.

DZ, my people. Any measured thoughts on how Kane comes back? If we assume he will be in the golden boot discussion at least again this year, he needs to start firing soon right? This whole Son from Korea business is messing up the script a bit. But maybe he fades, Alli comes good and Kane starts bagging them. He's pricey but I made up a lot of ground last year getting him in early.

I think his injury could do him good to be honest. He just gets run into the ground with Spurs and England commitments. Similar thing happened with Ozil. A 3 month injury led to 18 months of probably the best football he's played.

Could do well to get him early.

Same thinking. He's just very expensive so would be zigging while everyone and his brother is zagging towards an all star midfield. I'll probably end up doing though cause I think he will be a top 5 goal scorer at the end of the year, same with Lukaku. Add Aguero in there and I think the trick is affording a half decent midfield while having patience with those top 3. Midfield assets will fall off as weather gets colder.

I always play 5 in midfield, so he'd be competing for one of two spots up front.

1.5m over Lukaku could be difficult to justify mind you...

He'll come good. You know it. This five man midfield concept is so boringly transitory. You get the people closest to the goal and they score.

He was just getting in the flow when the injury happened. I had him for both those gameweeks where he started scoring (injury game included). Was slightly crushed when he went down. He will score a good amount this season, I would think. May take a game or two when he returns before he's truly back for a real go at it.

Yeah good point. I got to figure out a way back to Kane and I think it will probably be a WC. Shout out to Jay for a tempting mix on a previous page but no, I'll keep it to get Kane back in and adjust everything else to compensate.

          Would you:

          A. Fletcher > Walcott

              Capoue...

              Foster (Japu)
              Walker Valencia Williams (Kelly Amat)
              Sterling Firmino Antonio Capoue (Fletcher)
              Aguero Deeney Lukaku

              Current team

Then I think A is better as you won't have Capoue 4th mid any more.
Plus giving Antonio a few more games might be a good idea.

            I think A tbh.

Seems a bigger upgrade, although long term I think Sanchez would do you good if you could jig your team about.

Yup, that's my temptation honestly. Don't exactly trust Walcott and I know Sanchez is fixed in the Arsenal side...

But international break, rises etc. Feel like I should get in Sanchez now then work around it for a bit...

I can certainly understand your hesitation with Theo, but he's playing his best football in his football career.

I don't think it's just a fluctuation in form, but a complete change in attitude. I've never seen such fight from him. An example of this is the fact that at the current rate, he'll more than triple his best ever season for number of tackles made.

True. Just airing my thoughts out lol...cause my initial plan was to get Sanchez with my Ibra money. Feel like it's the ideal moment but so many other factors.

Doesn't appear so to me judging by fplstatistics. Not saying it's a surefire measuring stick, however. Seems to be though, from what else I have see of their tables, that it can be trusted, if not a bit loosely. I would say no.

Well, you can console yourself with the notion that he likely will in the next day or so. In fact, he'll probably rise twice during the break, if not thrice! Peeps across the globe will see he is the number 1 defender and get him in ASAP.

Walcott. Better goal threat. Coutinho could score two screamers but just as likely to miss 10 easy chances. A class footballer, but not a goalthreat like Walcott.

              Cech Pickford
              Rose Lovren Holebas (pieters amat)
              Sanchez Payet Firmino Arnie Siggy/Tadic
              Kun Wilson (Diomande)

              May be Deeney/Deroon/Clyne over Diomande/Arnie/Lovren

I can see why there is such a price rise magnet approach to this game. You have to get Son, or Sanchez or whomever the F. Sometimes that works, but honestly most times it is garbage. You need to have a view, an opinion of your own. Live by it or die by it. Anything else is a path to mediocrity. And most of us feel this but are too scared to do anything about it. Sad. I started this week, putting the C on Lukaku. I'm off the f'ing reservation from now on.

Looking at a -4 for Redmond and Antonio to two mids. Have already gone Zlatan to Deeney. Still have wildcard and haven't taken a hit all season. Sitting well in two of my leagues so looking at my best options.

18.2 to spend on two midfielders.

              Sanchez / Milner
              Mane / Payet

              Thought?

Hold for now. Redmond and antonio are both players that could score pretty well next gw.. Maybe just ship one out?

I can do Redmond -> Sanchez for free. I want to hold off due to internationals.

I'd go Sanchez and Snodgrass. Hull have a great run of fixtures coming up. Also gives u extra cash for elsewhere

Want to transfer Jako --> Boruc but need an extra 0.4. Should I go,

              A) Baines --> Francis

              B) Baines --> Stones

Both have a good run of fixtures and surely City will start getting clean sheets soon

They are moves I have in my mind too but would be a -4
                And still not sure
And will probably go Walcott over Son too
For a -8 probably not, as you are taking out two players who are not injured, and have ok fixtures (Liverpool is tough for Rashford but they are not exactly rock solid in defence)
