The Stock Check – Gameweek 8 – Monday

A dour Anfield affair offered scant reward for Fantasy Football managers as defences came out on top.

That added up to another ineffective evening for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played his part in a guarded United performance, resulting in another blank with inevitable Fantasy Premier League sales to follow.

Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Nathaniel Clyne
Owned by less than 9% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Liverpool right-back shook off a knee problem to start and play his part in a first clean sheet of the season for the Reds. Clyne claimed the maximum bonus points on offer after winning all four of his attempted tackles.

Priced at 5.5, his stock is somewhat limited by his price point which, in the current landscape, presents a significant obstacle. Dejan Lovren, at 4.9, remains our preferred route into Jurgen Klopp’s rearguard.

With West Brom, Crystal Palace and Watford up next, further defensive returns for Clyne and Lovren could be on the horizon.

David de Gea
A world class save from Philippe Coutinho’s long-range effort kept the scoreline at 0-0 and helped De Gea to only his third save point of the season.

The Spaniard also edged a bonus point as United won their third clean sheet of the campaign – their first since Gameweek 3 as the Spaniard’s 40% ownership fetched belated returns.

Jose Mourinho’s rearguard takes on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in Gameweek 9, followed by an Old Trafford meeting with Burnley and a trip to Swansea City.

In Decline

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Almost inevitably, Ibrahimovic suffers a further blow as he blanked for the third Gamweek in four and picked up a second successive yellow card.

That’s now just four points in four Gameweeks, during which time his price has dropped from 11.9 to 11.4, with more than 620,000 showing him the exit.

The Swede will dominate the transfers out column again heading into Gameweek 9, with Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku the major benefactors of the continued fall-out.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have midfield of Sanchez mane firmino snoddy Capoue. Would you switch one of the Liverpool mids for Walcott for free?

I'm thinking it might be worth it as although Liverpool have a great run will they struggle against teams who just sit back and defend?

Yeah, West Brom will do similar. Fair point.
Pool didn't play their pressing game last night until Studge went off though. It's also worth remembering that they've scored the most goals in 2016.

Liverpool fixtures also really good. Do you have a Liverpool or Arsenal defender? As daft as it may sound, I would just even up whoever you don't have. Neither team is good enough to warrant triple coverage imo.

Worth noting that if not for some great defending and goal keeping, Liverpool could have easily scored 3 goals against United.

Say what you will about DDG, but he's still one of the best shot stoppers in the world, and I don't think a lesser keeper would have kept out Can and Coutinho's shots. Then there was the exceptional last ditch challenge by Valencia to deny Firmino a one on one shot against DDG.

Point being Liverpool were very good in that second half against a very strong defensive unit. Regardless of whether lesser teams adopt United's tactics, Liverpool still have the attacking talent to carve out chances on goal as we saw in this match.

Not a fan of Karius. Don't see the point of using up a Liverpool spot with someone who has no attacking threat. Not as though they're watertight either

Is Antonio definitely playing right back? Aware he covered there after the red card on Saturday but he was right wing for most of the game. I need to decide soon whether to sell him this week - 0 itb and have Siggy / Tadic etc on my watchlist.

I think people are getting carried away. When you go down to 10 men, often players have to play out of position - especially when defending a lead.

Antonio and Capoue > Walcott and 4.3 mid for a -4?

Would avoid a probable Antonio drop (and possibly capoue too) and catch a Walcott rise or two.

    Would also give me:

    Pickford
    Mustafi Walker Holebas
    Sanchez Walcott Sterling Firmino
    Kun Lukaku Austin
    Jaku Evans Amat 4.3

Forget who the other teams in your ML have and go for a defender you think will give you the best points.

Well the only accurate bit was Costa then for GW 8 from the research:
    Analysis re attacking returns potential:
Rank      Player     Odds     Fixture    Form     Total
    1.            Costa        2             3              3            8
    2.           Sanchez    3             2              5            10
    3.           Son            5             5              1             11
    4.           Aguero      1             6              4            11
    5.           Benteke    4              1             6            11
    6.           Firmino     6              4             2            12
Taking odds, fixture and form into account, Chelsea’s Diego Costa is the likeliest to deliver attacking returns this Gameweek 8

Guess you didn't factor missing penalties into the research.

When did you last do a transfer and what transfer was it?

My latest was Sept 30th, Baines -> Coleman.

Will probably wait til after the European games and make next set of transfers.

I think I've had enough now. Zlatan just not cutting it and neither are Jose's tactics. If you keep for Chelsea returns may come later, but I think I've seen more than enough, and he could be 11.0m by Burnley.

    So;

a Zlatan>Costa, leaves me cash to do Antonio>Coutinho next week

b Zlatan>Lukaku, leaves me 0.2m to do Capoue>Coutinho. Could take a hit and do it now?? Stuck with Antonio then though...

    Heaton
    Kosc Stones Williams
    Firmino Walcott ANTONIO CAPOUE
    Aguero IBRA Benteke

    Foster Fletcher Evans Amat
