Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 13

Last Gameweek’s poll favourite Sergio Aguero (13.2) disappointed with a blank away at Crystal Palace.

A failure to register even a single shot on target at Selhurst Park, coupled with a potentially tough away trip to Burnley, is likely to dent the 46.5%-owned Man City striker’s prospects.

The Clarets have conceded a mere six goals in seven home matches this season.

Instead, Liverpool’s midfield maestros of Robert Firmino (8.8), Philippe Coutinho (8.7) and Sadio Mane (9.1) may push for the summit. Each has a strong case for the armband, although with 38 FPL points across his last four home league encounters, the 45.8%-owned Coutinho looks the pick of the trio.

With 35 points and 30 points respectively over the same matches, Mane and “false nine” Firmino are also very much in contention.

Arsenal also have a number captaincy contenders when they host Bournemouth.

The Gunners’ key options – 22.1% owned Alexis Sanchez (11.3) and Theo Walcott (7.8) – will have to improve on their lacklustre display against Manchester United in Gameweek 12 if they are to take advantage. At Old Trafford, neither managed a shot on target, with 12.3% owned Walcott failing to register a single goal attempt.

Mesut Ozil (9.6) and 1.6% owned super sub Olivier Giroud (8.8) offer alternatives. The former has served up 28 points in his last four home outings, while the latter has scored three goals from the bench in as many matches.

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s resilient defence, which is looking for its seventh league clean sheet in a row, will be put to the test when Spurs pay visit.

With goals in each of his last four league matches, the 6.4%-owned Harry Kane (10.8) will prove a stern test and may win support in the poll, particular after his brace against West Ham on Saturday evening.

Tottenham’s defence has been far more obliging of late, with just one clean sheet in their last four league fixtures. They will also be without the suspended Danny Rose, with doubts remaining on the availability of Toby Alderweireld.

This presents one of Eden Hazard (10.1) or Diego Costa (10.5) with the opportunity to even top the poll this week.

The 31.3%-owned Belgian has delivered attacking returns in every home match since manager Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation in Gameweek 7. The consistency of the 41.7%-owned Costa is also enticing, with a goal in three of his last four Gameweeks at the Bridge.

Another reliable selection that may gain votes is Swansea City’s 3.4%-owned Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.2). He has provided returns in four of the last five Gameweeks and hosts a Crystal Palace side still in search of their first clean sheet of the campaign.

Fantasy Football’s forgotten man Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.1) offers another strong candidate.

Sold by more than 1.6m FPL managers this season, the Man United striker has dropped off the radar as a captaincy option. But with a brace in Gameweek 11 away to Swansea, this weekend’s home clash with West Ham offers a chance for further redemption as he looks to reward the 25.4% of patient FPL managers that have stuck by him.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

I didn't do it but I take it Allen and Gundogan transfers were a bit if a knee jerk for many??
Have to say I was tempted but I got redmond (again) which has proved just as bad a transfer imo

      Allen served me well

.3 profit and 13 points from the two games I started him in

Not to mention giving me the funds to get hazard in 2 weeks ago

Allen was to replace Chadli and fund Alonso. I knew I'd want rid but still went through with it.

Going to upgrade to someone like Sigurdsson now which will hopefully be better 🙂

Allen may come back to no. 10 role, but fixtures are not great. I would still say he is a good option for 5th mid.

I disagree on Redmond have you seen his fixtures. Also he is like a machine gun in the A team. he misses a lot but hits the target every now and then. Always involved.

    Afternoon all,

Mulling over whether or not to make a transfer this week, advice would be welcome:

    Heaton (Robo)

Fuchs, Pieters, Amat (Kone & Smith)

Hazard, Firmino (C), Coutinho, Walcott (Capoue)

    Kun, Costa, Austin

    1.2 itb

    A. hold FT this week then go Kun & Smith for Kane & Cedric next GW with a view to move Fuchs to Alonso for GW15

    OR

    B. Bring in Cedric for Smith this GW and play instead of Amat or Pieters.

    OR

    C. Something/Someone else....

Yup, using 2 ft s next week looks better.
Not too many things happened this week apart from Chelsea s continued CS run and Defoe, Anichebe showing some value .
Kane s brace in 2 minutes wouldn't have happened on another day . Apart from that the week was dull so using the transfer next week will give bigger sample size considering next week is action packed with goals .

    Choose one for GW15 onwards:

    A) Kdb in a 3-5-2 (No Aguero)

(lei, WAT, ARS, hul, liv, BUR)

Benteke to Austin , Bolasie to Walcott if you wanna spend 2FT.
Sterling to Walcott if you wanna save the FT.
You can also punt on Ozil for Sterling and Benteke out for someone cheap , nor sure about the math there but seems around possible if you fancy a differential in Ozil .

Many here look like they are waiting for Ozil to show consistency in the next two weeks I guess since hazard plus Sanchez seems too much for a 3-4-3 with 2 premium strikers .

Burnley in home games defend very deep.
If kun couldn't get a shot on target Vs palace where he was expected to potentially score a brace, Burnley will be marking him with similar hopes .
He might get a goal but I don't see more than a goal for him unless he has some magic moment from a long shot like against WBA and honestly I'm taking the punt that it won't happen Vs Burnley and Heaton .

Coutinho , Sanchez will be involved in 3-4 team goals (potentially) so seems logical to be involved in more returns for a double digit haul .

Also kun should play UCL , added fatigue won't help him.
If kun grabs a goal midweek , polls should come back to him little more.

      Williams or Diomande .
You don't exactly need a transfer this week but sounds good to catch Anichebe for Diomande since you play a 3-5-2 /4-4-2 and he is 4.5 only for a few more hours . Expecting him to rise 1 million or more within 3-4 weeks JUST if he starts every game for now, ripped apart Diomande s return For 4.5 .

Vertonghen surely will start next game as a full back who just defends , Moses won't have to defend Rose overlaps that said .

Hazard is a free role since they play fluid football , LW, RW mean nothing , only the wingbacks offer width . Pedro and Hazard can drift wide or central as they seem fit but hazard plays on the left side of costa , near Alonso so he should be in that side a bit more , Vs Walker .

Alonso is a rotation risk? For who I might ask?

don't know, games come thick and fast this time of year and its generally the full backs/wing backs that are freshened up isn't it? Plus he may revert to 4 at the back in which case Alonso wasn't favoured beginning of season

They don't come 'thick and fast' for Chelsea. They have only 7 games left in 2016

do you think they warrant investment now or in two weeks?

Do we think Grant has another game in him or is it Butland all the way from here?

I could really do without a Pickford autosub this week which could likely be a negative score if Sunderland get the Anfield mauling I think they will...

Just start Pickford. You'll avoid the autosub that way

MH on Butland: Jack is progressing really well. We're hopeful that if he has a good week next week he'll be back with the senior group #SCFC

That was last week, so he hasn't even been training with the full team yet. Grant will get Watford and probably Burnley

Great, thank you for that. Will hold on to Grant for a bit longer then! 🙂

United are useless unfortunately and Mata not nailed. Looking at Pedro but will probably avoid as I'm also getting Alonso/Costa. Redmond I've owned for far too much of this season, never again.

So I was drunk on Saturday night and saw Kane was rising, and "decided" to take Costa out for him, alongside Lallana out for Coutinho for a -4... I think we've all done it lol.

    Erm, so it leaves me with this lot;
    Pickford / Jaku
Walker Fuchs Pieters Amat / 3.9
    Firmino Coutinho Hazard /Fletcher Allen
    Kun Kaku Kane

Guess next is Austin in for Kaku and Allen or Fuchs upgrade, but both all kind fixtures next week so might be a case of holding on.

Do you reckon I'm okay with just the -4?
    And play Amat or Fletcher?

    Thanks!!

I would call Lukaku a potential "tick over" or " a stupid thick"

For me it comes down to:

      1) Sanchez & Lukaku
      2) Kane/Costa & Siggy (and a later defensive upgrade of something like Evans --> Alonso and maybe even Cedric at some point...

So I kinda hope Siggy looked good! 🙂

Siggy will be on a lot of Christmas lists, I'm thinking. Lukaku, like Aguero, is one of those players who are much more annoying when you don't own them.

Had a kicking this week, Spud. A couple of 3mil GW ranks on the bounce - mostly fuelled by Aguero.

    Team at the moment

    grant
    stones walker brunt holabas
    walcot coutinho de bruyne hazard
    aguero lukaku

subs anichebi (13 points :)) smith ledley

    Do i

    a) Nothing
    b) Lukaku > Costa and ledley > de roon
    c) walker > cedric lukaku > austin ledley > firmino

Soton and liverpool have good run of fixtures coming up and lukaku and everton have flopped recently with spurs leaking at the back too.

    Thoughts please

Save your transfer then the following week get Austin.
You could dump walker for Alonso in three weeks

I can just see liverpool putting atleast 4 past sunderland. Liverpool look the best going forward they should have scored atleast 4 against soton tbh.
