Fantasy Chili Bowl – Week 5

The regular season comes to a close this coming weekend during Gameweek 17’s fixtures and it’s all to play for in all four conferences.  Who will be crying over their Christmas dinner with regret? Who will be partying into the new year with Texas Chili Bowl glory in their sights?  We will find out very soon.

First of all let’s take a look back at the key events during the last round.

Conference A

The San Antonio Ravers and Washington DC Presidents go into the final round of matches with their play-off fate in their own hands after both teams claimed crucial victories to move to a 3-1 record.

Consistency was the key for the two front-runners as neither team had a player in their starting six who had a tally below 40 in a generally low-scoring week.  Spencer led the way for the Ravers with 59 points as his side overcame the newly eliminated Boston Hawks comfortably 297-238, while Sauzee was the Kaiser for the Presidents with 64 points in a 286-271 classic at the New Orleans Contes.

The Los Angeles Vipers missed out on the opportunity to also move to a 3-1 record as they were humbled 292-273 against the Miami Magicians, who picked up their first win of the campaign despite their best two players in terms of OR being automatically benched due to their substitutes not being nominated.

Conference B

The Cleveland Steamers were steamrolled by a phenomenal Philadelphia Sentrymen team performance, who take over the top spot going into the final matches.

All six Sentrymen starters scored in the 50s, and this relentless onslaught proved far too much for the previously unbeaten Steamers, who fell to a 320-239 landslide defeat, despite Sean being the match’s highest individual scorer with 62 points for Cleveland.

The Chicago Bull Sitters had their play-off aspirations dented as they lost 300-259 against the Mississippi Hillbillies, who picked up their overdue first win of the tournament.  Hillbilly Moin was the top scorer of the week in the whole competition with 65 points.

In the other match, the Austin Powers kept their slim play-off hopes alive with a 303-242 against the Phoenix Philistines.  Sjaugen was Austin’s top scorer with 59 points in the must-win encounter.  The Powers need to beat Mississippi in their last match and hope other results go their way to qualify, while there is no rising from the ashes for Phoenix, who are now eliminated.

Conference C

The San Diego Casuals know they will definitely be in the play-offs if they win their last match after they were the top scoring team in the competition this week as they ended San Francisco Bulls Deep’s 100% start to the season.

JohnnyRev7.0 (64), Wally Banter (63) and Jigger and Pony (60) all produced the goods for the Casuals in the California derby as San Diego ran out 354-285 winners.  It’s not all doom and gloom for the Bulls Deep though, as they hold on to top spot in the conference with qualification also in their own hands.

The Las Vegas Lemmings battled hard but lost 296-288 to the San Jose Holebas, with Djenzio top-scoring for the victors with 59 points.  The luckless Lemmings are now the only team in the tournament to have lost all their matches.

In the other match, the Seattle Salad Dodgers claimed a nailbiting 273-271 win over the New York Tommy Guns.  Seattle will need to beat Las Vegas in their last match and hope other results go their way in order to qualify, while New York look all but dead and buried due to their inferior total points, despite having the same 2-2 record as the Salad Dodgers.

Conference D

It was a real war of attrition this week as none of the six teams managed a total in excess of 300 points.

The first tie of the tournament to mention involved Denver DoesDallas slogging it out with the Utah Polygamists in a 275-275 draw.  The half-point wasn’t enough to move Utah off the bottom of the table, but it was good enough for Denver to move into second place. The Colorado side twill secure a play-off berth if they beat the Waikiki Beach Raiders in their final game.

The Raiders will need to bounce back in that crucial match with Denver if they want to be in the post-season after they slipped to a low-scoring 246-236 loss against the Jacksonville Jamaicans.

In the other match, the Indianapolis House of Pancakes were defeated 297-240 to the Albuquerque Shaolin.  The eggs, milk and flour side lost their 100% record, but remain in top spot in this conference and look virtually certain to make the play-offs, barring a Week 5 total disaster.

TEAM AND MANAGER OF THE WEEK

Moin (MIS) 65

JohnnyRev7.0 (SD) 64

Sauzee (WAS) 64

teckham23 (ALB) 63

Wally Banter (SD) 63

Sean. (CLE) 62

Alternates:

Nutcracker FC (ALB) 64

Neenyg (MIA) 58

The Manager of the week award goes to Tets McGee of the San Diego Casuals.  San Diego and Philadelphia both won their respective matches while benching their two lowest scorers, but as both teams would have won anyway no matter who they benched, Tets gets the nod due to a better overall score in the season-long Captain’s Award competition, which he now leads overall.

ALL-STAR GAME

The  all-star game takes place in Gameweek 16 while the main competition prepares for the regular season Gameweek 17 finale with the participants now finalised.  A full run down of the All Star Points (APS) standings, as well as the current captains award positions and the competition rules can be found here.

The final all-star rosters look like this……..

Conference A/B:

Spencer (SA) 8 APS
Moin (MIS) 6 APS
Narcos (PHI) 5 APS
Vinayashwin (PHI) 5 APS
Jazz! (NO) 5 APS
Meerlight (MIS) 5 APS

A mention to Sanchit (BOS) who also had 5 APS, but missed out due to having the lowest total FPL points during the competition amongst those with 5 APS.

Conference C/D:

Rhinos (SF) 7 APS

Park The Bus (SD) 6 APS

Hunter S Thompson (DEN) 5 APS

JohnnyRev 7.0 (SD) 5 APS

SidL (NY) 5 APS

DelhiDynamo (WB) 4 APS

Mentions to KingNidge (DEN), Spectrum (SJ), Evs (SEA) and teckham23 (ALB) who all also ended up with 4 APS, but lost out to DelhiDynamo who had the highest total FPL points during the competition amongst those with 4 APS.

APS are also awarded for the all-star game, so will be crucial in the race to be the season MVP, which will be awarded to the individual with the most APS at the conclusion of the regular season.

Updates on the All-Star game will occur through GW16 within the comments section of this article.

THE SQUADS AND THE FIXTURE LISTS

Please see this spreadsheet  for details of all the squads (with links to each players FPL history) and fixtures.

The FCB Differentials spreadsheet allows teams to identify which players will be key in this week’s scoring. The instructions for using it are:

1. First, make a personal copy using the ‘File’ menu options (this will enable you to edit the cells)

2. Enter the GW no. in the blue-coloured cell on top.

3. Enter the FPL IDs of your six team members and the six IDs of the opponents’.

4. The sheet picks up the live FPL points of the players on each refresh, and the total for the team is displayed in green.

The FCB Next GW Scouting spreadsheet will allow teams to pull in the previous week’s FPL teams for all eight of the opposing teams players to allow scouting of the squads. The instructions for using this spreadsheet are as above except the fpl points are no longer valid.

SIDE ORDERS

·         Captains must email the FCB mailbox (fantasychilibowl@gmail.com) with their decision on which two players they are benching this week before the deadline of 11:59pm UK time on Friday night.  11:59pm UK time on the night before the FPL deadline will be the deadline each week.

·         Remember this is a FFS community competition and we expect all teams to have some presence within the comments on these articles.  If we see some teams not participating on this front, we will start enforcing rules to ensure this does happen.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fantasychilibowl@gmail.com

As a final request, please do try and keep the FCB chat to the comment sections of our articles.

Cheers for posting. Going to be tough for the Austins to power on but that week 4 victory has certainly put some schwing in our step. 🙂

In true dramatic fashion it was Jose Holebas coming off the bench to win the game for San Jose last gameweek, so I would like to pay homage to the great man himself with a little Christmas ditty.

    Rocking around the Holebas tree

    Rocking around the Holebas Tree
at the Chili bowl party hop
. A crucial game as you can see,
San Jose will come out top.

    Rocking around the Holebas Tree
 let the Christmas spirit ring
, later we'll have some San Diego pie,
    and we'll do some Celebrating

You Casuals will get a jealous feeling
 when you hear, Us singing
"Let's be jolly; A minus four hit for Catermole was Folly "

    Rocking around the Holebas Tree
have a happy holiday
Everyone taking hits merrily
In a new rage transfer way.

You Casuals will get a jealous feeling
 when you hear us singing
"Let's be jolly; Another hit for
    Theo Wally"

    Rocking around the Holebas Tree
 Have a happy Watford day
Everyone's celebrating casually
, San Diego we did it our way 😎

Indianapolis are pretty much trough, barring any monstrous scores by the other teams in the group. Ignoring any dramatic conditions, it looks like only Denver can displace us at the top.
Waikiki vs Denver is virtually a do or die clash for both the teams.
@ Jamaicans - You guys have a very slim chance of progressing. You need to beat us and hope that Denver lose(or draw) to Waikiki, and you need to get 58 points more than Waikiki. But don't have high hopes because we have no intention of showing any mercy to others 😉

Tensions were rising in Conference B, and not just because of all the hot air. For three weeks Cleveland had sat proudly on the throne, but after hitting a skid-mark in Week 4, courtesy of excessive hits, the Steamers were running out of juice.

The Bull Sitters insurgency campaign was already making its mark – as the photo at the top of the page clearly shows – the Chefs in the Cleveland Marriot had found the deposit left following our last visit. It was now time to get up off our stools and get ready to unleash thunder. Meticulously anal in his pre-match preparation, Mr CALM called on Ron Scout to deliver his latest scouting report.

“Well Boss, until last week the Steamers were definitely full of it. They've got an effective stopper at the back; however, he is now starting to leak, and the whole defence is vulnerable to late movement. They have excellent Arsenal and Liverpoo cover in midfield, and a tricky floater in the hole. They also have the bug guy up front, and fast runners, but are prone to sloppy finishing. Finally, their Manager is an old fart and needs a good number two.”

Mr CALM knew that with the one-armed Austin Powers hobbling up on the rails, fuelled by the latest issue of psychedelic products, this was no time to hold back.

“Right guys, I'm calling a Code Brown. It’s time to commit the Steamers to the Dumpatorium, and clear out the route to the Chilli-Bowl. Clench those buttocks, format your gluteus maximus, and load up the sausage maker for one more bio break. Another big push and it will be baked brownies all round, and pats on the back for all”.

Meanwhile, FEMA were busy establishing a safety cordon around Steamer Stadium.

Steamers have been using their last 2 weeks to prepare for the final showdown at the weekend. The all-star break is most welcome for further correction.
Jim Bowen used to say "you can't beat a bit of bully"
This weekend the Steamers will be beating a bit of Chicago Bully

You either need to win by 135 points, or win and hope Waikiki Beach beat Denver, while you score 59 points or more than Waikiki do. Albuquerque could leapfrog you though if they score 22 points or more than you and win their match.

TLDR; you are pretty screwed 😉

Actually, if Denver and Waikiki draw, you will also go through if you win and score 20 points or more than Denver (assuming Albuquerque don't score 22 points or more than you and win their match as well).

But you still are pretty screwed 😛

          I feel very embarrassed.

I didn't realise San Diego Casuals were still in the tournie. I apologise to the organisers, and fellow teams, and my team mates for my previous post(s).

I don't know what to believe anymore. What to understand. It's like a James Herbert novel gone wrong. Very wrong.

I'd also like to apologise to Tets for sleeping with her last night. Joel is actually Jolene. I thought she was a boy. The small breasts confused me.

But, in a moment of casual clarity, and getting up to speed, I'd like to give a big shout out to San Jose Holebas. Especially Spectrum (c). I've read back through the previous FCB articles and you guys have supported us since day one. It means a lot. It really does.

          Thank you!

Unfortunately, as you're our next opponents we have to crush you to death. Obliterate you. Destroy your very souls. But I promise you, on behalf of the San Diego Casuals, we'll all have a tear in our eyes whilst we do it.

All is fair in love, and war, and FPL.

          Good luck!

          I'll provide a rundown of the all star game in a few hours. Here's a taster though;

All 12 players have Harry Kane, can you guess the only one of them stupid enough to deny him the armband?

If Washington and San Antonio both win/draw, you are out whatever happens.

If you don't win, you are out whatever happens.

If you win and Washington lose, you will need to score 71 points or more than San Antonio

Your best chance is if you win and San Antonio lose, then you will need to score 16 points or more than San Antonio to qualify.

And also Los Angeles can leapfrog you if they also win and score 73 or more than you.

          All star game update;

A frustrating night for Arsenal and Leicester plus weapons grade trolling from Ashley Williams means that thanks mainly to Alexis Sanchez and Adam Smith conference C/D goes into tonight's jamboree with a 12pt lead, albeit with 1 less player to come. Here are the differentials:

          A/B Foster x2 Heaton
          C/D Grant x3 Valdes

A/B Evans x2 Alonso Pieters Cedric Toby
C/D Walker x2 Brunt Holebas Mcauley Jones Cahill

A/B Mane Son Phillips Ward-Prowse Allen
C/D KDB x2 Snodgrass Can Firmino Alli

A/B Origi x3 Costa x2 Kane Anichebe Defoe
          C/D Benteke Negredo Iheanacho Carroll

Assuming Hazard out then we add Capoue x2 and De Roon to A/B and Anichebe x2 and Evans to C/D

          Good luck everyone

MVP points important here too but not bothered covering it because there are far too many players left to play for it to matter yet
