Fantasy Chili Bowl – Week 5

The regular season comes to a close this coming weekend during Gameweek 17’s fixtures and it’s all to play for in all four conferences.  Who will be crying over their Christmas dinner with regret? Who will be partying into the new year with Texas Chili Bowl glory in their sights?  We will find out very soon.

First of all let’s take a look back at the key events during the last round.

Conference A

The San Antonio Ravers and Washington DC Presidents go into the final round of matches with their play-off fate in their own hands after both teams claimed crucial victories to move to a 3-1 record.

Consistency was the key for the two front-runners as neither team had a player in their starting six who had a tally below 40 in a generally low-scoring week.  Spencer led the way for the Ravers with 59 points as his side overcame the newly eliminated Boston Hawks comfortably 297-238, while Sauzee was the Kaiser for the Presidents with 64 points in a 286-271 classic at the New Orleans Contes.

The Los Angeles Vipers missed out on the opportunity to also move to a 3-1 record as they were humbled 292-273 against the Miami Magicians, who picked up their first win of the campaign despite their best two players in terms of OR being automatically benched due to their substitutes not being nominated.

Conference B

The Cleveland Steamers were steamrolled by a phenomenal Philadelphia Sentrymen team performance, who take over the top spot going into the final matches.

All six Sentrymen starters scored in the 50s, and this relentless onslaught proved far too much for the previously unbeaten Steamers, who fell to a 320-239 landslide defeat, despite Sean being the match’s highest individual scorer with 62 points for Cleveland.

The Chicago Bull Sitters had their play-off aspirations dented as they lost 300-259 against the Mississippi Hillbillies, who picked up their overdue first win of the tournament.  Hillbilly Moin was the top scorer of the week in the whole competition with 65 points.

In the other match, the Austin Powers kept their slim play-off hopes alive with a 303-242 against the Phoenix Philistines.  Sjaugen was Austin’s top scorer with 59 points in the must-win encounter.  The Powers need to beat Mississippi in their last match and hope other results go their way to qualify, while there is no rising from the ashes for Phoenix, who are now eliminated.

Conference C

The San Diego Casuals know they will definitely be in the play-offs if they win their last match after they were the top scoring team in the competition this week as they ended San Francisco Bulls Deep’s 100% start to the season.

JohnnyRev7.0 (64), Wally Banter (63) and Jigger and Pony (60) all produced the goods for the Casuals in the California derby as San Diego ran out 354-285 winners.  It’s not all doom and gloom for the Bulls Deep though, as they hold on to top spot in the conference with qualification also in their own hands.

The Las Vegas Lemmings battled hard but lost 296-288 to the San Jose Holebas, with Djenzio top-scoring for the victors with 59 points.  The luckless Lemmings are now the only team in the tournament to have lost all their matches.

In the other match, the Seattle Salad Dodgers claimed a nailbiting 273-271 win over the New York Tommy Guns.  Seattle will need to beat Las Vegas in their last match and hope other results go their way in order to qualify, while New York look all but dead and buried due to their inferior total points, despite having the same 2-2 record as the Salad Dodgers.

Conference D

It was a real war of attrition this week as none of the six teams managed a total in excess of 300 points.

The first tie of the tournament to mention involved Denver DoesDallas slogging it out with the Utah Polygamists in a 275-275 draw.  The half-point wasn’t enough to move Utah off the bottom of the table, but it was good enough for Denver to move into second place. The Colorado side twill secure a play-off berth if they beat the Waikiki Beach Raiders in their final game.

The Raiders will need to bounce back in that crucial match with Denver if they want to be in the post-season after they slipped to a low-scoring 246-236 loss against the Jacksonville Jamaicans.

In the other match, the Indianapolis House of Pancakes were defeated 297-240 to the Albuquerque Shaolin.  The eggs, milk and flour side lost their 100% record, but remain in top spot in this conference and look virtually certain to make the play-offs, barring a Week 5 total disaster.

TEAM AND MANAGER OF THE WEEK

Moin (MIS) 65

JohnnyRev7.0 (SD) 64

Sauzee (WAS) 64

teckham23 (ALB) 63

Wally Banter (SD) 63

Sean. (CLE) 62

Alternates:

Nutcracker FC (ALB) 64

Neenyg (MIA) 58

The Manager of the week award goes to Tets McGee of the San Diego Casuals.  San Diego and Philadelphia both won their respective matches while benching their two lowest scorers, but as both teams would have won anyway no matter who they benched, Tets gets the nod due to a better overall score in the season-long Captain’s Award competition, which he now leads overall.

ALL-STAR GAME

The  all-star game takes place in Gameweek 16 while the main competition prepares for the regular season Gameweek 17 finale with the participants now finalised.  A full run down of the All Star Points (APS) standings, as well as the current captains award positions and the competition rules can be found here.

The final all-star rosters look like this……..

Conference A/B:

Spencer (SA) 8 APS
Moin (MIS) 6 APS
Narcos (PHI) 5 APS
Vinayashwin (PHI) 5 APS
Jazz! (NO) 5 APS
Meerlight (MIS) 5 APS

A mention to Sanchit (BOS) who also had 5 APS, but missed out due to having the lowest total FPL points during the competition amongst those with 5 APS.

Conference C/D:

Rhinos (SF) 7 APS

Park The Bus (SD) 6 APS

Hunter S Thompson (DEN) 5 APS

JohnnyRev 7.0 (SD) 5 APS

SidL (NY) 5 APS

DelhiDynamo (WB) 4 APS

Mentions to KingNidge (DEN), Spectrum (SJ), Evs (SEA) and teckham23 (ALB) who all also ended up with 4 APS, but lost out to DelhiDynamo who had the highest total FPL points during the competition amongst those with 4 APS.

APS are also awarded for the all-star game, so will be crucial in the race to be the season MVP, which will be awarded to the individual with the most APS at the conclusion of the regular season.

Updates on the All-Star game will occur through GW16 within the comments section of this article.

THE SQUADS AND THE FIXTURE LISTS

Please see this spreadsheet  for details of all the squads (with links to each players FPL history) and fixtures.

The FCB Differentials spreadsheet allows teams to identify which players will be key in this week’s scoring. The instructions for using it are:

1. First, make a personal copy using the ‘File’ menu options (this will enable you to edit the cells)

2. Enter the GW no. in the blue-coloured cell on top.

3. Enter the FPL IDs of your six team members and the six IDs of the opponents’.

4. The sheet picks up the live FPL points of the players on each refresh, and the total for the team is displayed in green.

The FCB Next GW Scouting spreadsheet will allow teams to pull in the previous week’s FPL teams for all eight of the opposing teams players to allow scouting of the squads. The instructions for using this spreadsheet are as above except the fpl points are no longer valid.

SIDE ORDERS

·         Captains must email the FCB mailbox (fantasychilibowl@gmail.com) with their decision on which two players they are benching this week before the deadline of 11:59pm UK time on Friday night.  11:59pm UK time on the night before the FPL deadline will be the deadline each week.

·         Remember this is a FFS community competition and we expect all teams to have some presence within the comments on these articles.  If we see some teams not participating on this front, we will start enforcing rules to ensure this does happen.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fantasychilibowl@gmail.com

As a final request, please do try and keep the FCB chat to the comment sections of our articles.

Certainly is. Things look good for us as it stands - I think it will take all three of the following happening for us to crash out...

        1. The Presidents come back to win their game
        2. The Vipers come back to beat us
        3. The Contes go on to beat our score by more than 15 points

So after some investigation I think group D stands like this

    Utah 174
    Heaton x2, firmino x2 , Sanchez , rose, cedric x2 , origi X 3 , Walcott , ake
    Alberquerque 210
    Son , mane x2 , ozil, Coleman

    IHOP 141
Smith x 2, Sanchez, Eriksen x3, lallana x2, walker, cedric
    Jackson 138
Ali, origi x3, boruc, Nacho, Walcott, firmino x2, Kane x3

    Waikiki 155
Heaton, origi x3, walker x2, Eriksen x3, Francis, rose, mane x3, clyne
    Denver 163
Williams, Toby, cedric, firmino x2, vertonghen, smith, lallana

    1. John t penguin
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 5 months ago

So it looks like IHOP have qualified. Only one of Waikiki or Denver can catch them and it looks impossible for Jackson or alberquerque to get enough goals to overtake them.
If Waikiki beat Denver it looks hard for either Jackson or alberquerque to overtake them on points with players left.
If Denver win then Jackson could catch them with a decent score from their players today, again I think alberquerque don't have enough players to score more goals

        Thanks JTD. Good analysis.

I have it basically the same, except Denver do qualify if they win, due to the half-point for the draw last week.

Albuquerque don't seem to have enough left to catch you, but they are having a good go at it.

    @ Zirro / spreadsheet people:

I don't think the differentials spreadsheet is picking up Andy Carroll's 2pts (perhaps an Andy vs Tom issue?)

Don't know if it effects the FCB score sheet too.

Looks like a tight contest between the Hillbillies and the Powers. I think we're 3 points behind but we have Lallana to turn over the deficit, whereas they have Can.

If Lallana doesn't play then we have de Roons hat full, and if Can doesn't play they have Capoue's pair.

Thanks for the spreadsheet update. I think this is how it stands (please add or correct anything I've missed).

Conf A - DC Presidents and SA Ravers are through. SA vs LA Vipers is close - if SA win or tie, they top the group; lose and DC are top.

Conf B - Philadelphia are through. Cleveland vs Chicago is close - if Cleveland win or tie, they top the group; if Chicago win, then either them or Austin qualify second to Phil. (highest scorer: currently Austin by about 10pts).

Conf C - San Fran are top and 1st seeds. The Casuals have qualified second.

Conf D - Waikiki are about 20 ahead of Denver - a Waikiki win would mean Indianapolis are top, and Waikiki second. If Denver win then they will top the group with IND second. (A tie means that Jacksonville would most likely qualify second to IND).

It would require the Bull Sitters persuading Lallanx2 to make up the existing deficit and the combined power of 2xMane, Firmino, Origi and Lovren; so I can definitely hear strains of the fat lady warbling at Goodison Park.

        Thanks Jarvish.

Looks like there will be some good very teams in pot 2. As it stands, we could get the DC Presidents, Philadelphia or the Casuals in the QFs.

I believe that Cleveland are in a strong position going into the shellsuit derby so fingers crossed we finish the job off and make the last 8.
The underdawgs are still going strong.

Congratulations to the Steamers - your offensive power was too much for us; and good luck in the rest of the tournament.

Thanks also to everyone else for the cracking banter, and the organisers for bringing it all together. I'm now off for a duet with the fat lady.

I won! I won! I have no idea what is going on, but someone said I won!

What's that? I was on the bench this GW and can't take part in the bromance team bath?

    I knew that anyway.

Thanks a lot to Jarvish, Cheese, Ziro and co. for the hard work that goes into this behind the scenes. I'd also like to thank Tony and Nidge for their contribution to the banter on here. Fantastic tournament, great participants. Glad to be a part of it. San Francisco win against New York. Was great being Israel last year, a bit less great this year as New York. All the best to everyone who qualified for the next round. Tipping San Francisco to go a long way ahead in the tournament.

For the 2nd time this tournament we got the 2nd highest score in our conference and lost to the week's top scorer.

13th out of 24 overall on points scored overall. Solidly bottom on wins.

Sorry to hear that. Sometimes that is the way the cookie crumbles I am afraid.

If it makes you feel any better Utah got less points than any of the teams who qualified for the quarter finals. but yeas bottom of the group is harsh on someone who only got 9 points less than the team which qualified.

Yeah, just hard lines. I don't mind not making it through, 0-4-1 just makes us look like a bunch of incompetent also-rans.

I wouldn't worry about it. The number of teams dispatched by Iceland last season and they never even bothered to send a sub in once. You feel daft losing to a team like that

    MVP UPDATE - CONGRATS MOIN!

Insane end to the MVP race - Moin (MIS) is confirmed as the MVP after picking up 3 more APS in the final week. Spencer (SA) (who was tied with on APS with Moin) also incredibly picked up 3 APS, but Moin has scored 13 more FPL points over the duration of the competition, so wins the title, whilst improving his OR from 180k to 20k.
