The FFS Cup – Sponsored by FanDuel – Sixth Round Draw

This evening we reveal who has made it through to Gameweek 18’s sixth round fixtures of our open to all Fantasy Premier League cup competition.

For this contest there are more than £1,000 worth of prizes for UK based entrants courtesy of our partner FanDuel, as well as £350 in Amazon vouchers to the top three managers at the end of the competition.

In addition, the highest scoring manager each round will win a £30 FanDuel credit, with Big Phil Soccer Team winning that accolade after defeating Funkyav 74 to 51.

He squares up to the FFScout moderator and contributor crew’s last remaining representative, TorresMagic, in what looks like being one of the last 32’s toughest clashes. Just under 10,000 places in the overall rankings separates this pair.

The next highest scoring managers in round five, Tutankhamun, Real Sociopath, Moin, DillyDingDillyDongFC and A Manager Has No Name all win a £10 FanDuel credit.

Among this group DillyDingDillyDongFC will be a favourite to progress, as his rank of 7,316 makes him the highest placed manager left in the competition.

He faces one of the competition’s lowest ranked managers, Space Cadete, who is positioned at 1,033,108 in the overall standings.

Other eye catching community regular ties in round six include Bashvilla’s match with Pinky Unites and The Shoe Makers fixture against Back on the Horse.

The fifth round results can be found via this link, while the full sixth round draw can be found here.

Good luck to those still involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

    Team ATM

    Foster

    Alonso Walker Amat

    Hazard Firmino Sanchez Capoue

    Origi Ibrahimovic(c) Defoe

    Bench: Jaku McAuley Fer Ake

Where should i look at improving? 1.1 ITB, Maybe Zaha for Capoue or Downgrade Firmino to Lallana?

    Thanks

How many FTs? If only 1, save, team is fine enough to survive this week.

Also would take out Fer before Capoue.

Thanks, i only have one transfer, do you suggest i save? I do agree though that Fer should go first as his not starting.

Just a thought...Is Bellerin not a good pick even just for attacking returns? U probably have the cash.

        Thanks

I'm actually planning to get Cech, so Bellerin is not an option.

Alternatively, I can pick DDG instead of Cech and go for Bellerin in defense. Sounds good?

Yeah, doubling up on Arsenal defense this season is doesnt sound very tempting and understand your hesitancy.
Valencia is the way to go with upcoming United fixtures

Just a thought from people worried about not geting Kun in before he's worth 50million squid.

WC's kick in from 1st of Jan, right? All the casuals are gonna go Agueornuts, so all those WC's being activated should (going on previous experience) begate the net transfers and slow down his price rises

Should be price protected for a week from 31 Dec, so you can monitor his first couple of games back safe in the knowledge that his price will still be same until after the Burnley game

Pick someone from attack if you want to take risk.

Chelsea have no Kante aswell, so clean sheet might not be possible.

Anyway, captaincy is personal choice. So go with your gut feeling 🙂

Guys, need more opinions. I know, my team sucks and I don't have enough big hitters but what would you do here:

    1FT

    Pick
    Walker Stones Williams
    Mane Firmino Siggy Alli Capoue
    Ibra(c) Kane

    Jaku Defoe Smith Nyom

    A) Stones to Valencia
    B) Kane & Firm to Tekkers & Sanchez -4
    C) Kane & Alli to Tekkers & Hazard -4
    D) Defoe to Llorente/Carroll

Defoe and Firmino/Alli to Anichebe and Sanchez, next week Kane to Costa?

      1. fedolefan

Not too keen on Anichebe though. Thinking about going without Costa until Ibra loses form and I'll be looking at Kane to Kun most likely.

United looking so good defensively and if ever useless Capoo will score, it has to be against Palace at home, right? That was the thinking anyway.

    Grant (Mandanda)
    Holebas Alonso Darmian (Amat Stones)
    Capoue Hazard Wallcott Firmino (Allen)
    Kane Ibra Carroll

    Opinions please..what should I do
    A. Get Heaton in place of Mandanada
    B. Other changes in team are more urgent - fix that (please advise specific player)

If no injuries i think ive solved this fpl puzzle. Arsenal fixtures are scary good. Planning
Holebas and Mane to Bellerin and Theo in gw21 (just think he'll be rested 19). Gives

    Valdes
    Bellerin Alonso Brunt Friend
    Sanchez Hazard kdb Theo

    Pickford Anichebe De Roon Amat

I like this team but KDB is not explosive enough for that price. I'd rather you go Ibra and fodder mid than KDB and fodder striker. Can downgrade Amat to a 3.9 since he's useless and Valdes to a Grant/Mannone to raise funds.

    A) Stones -> P Jones (-4)
    B) Stones & Payet -> Alonso/Bellerin & Lallana (-8)
    C) Stones & Payet -> Luiz & Walcott (-8)
    D) Fer & Costa -> Mane & Negredo (-8)

You can't and should not do anything that involves Payet except maybe captaining/vice-captaining him. That rules out B & C. While we can overthink bans and suspensions, Mane is most likely off in a couple of weeks and Negredo has a couple of tough fixtures coming up. Don't think that's worth a -8 right now. A looks the best bet.

Take Costa out then. After the next 2 (one of which he misses), Chelsea's fixtures probably don't justify having both Costa and Hazard.

Do you have anything banked? What's your sale price for Costa?

Hmmm, you should probably keep Costa then as you bought him so low.

Would Pogba do instead? Firmino to Pogba looks good. And then work on the defence, maybe starting with Shaw to Valencia or Jones?

Because whoever is advising FPL doesn't know the difference between froth and fact.

He's not injured. He just has a knock which he played a full 90 minutes with last weekend and they are giving him some extra physio to completely recover him from.

An injury should be something that stops a player from playing. Next thing will be that someone gets flagged because they had a massage.

They flag any news, as they should. It doesn't mean a player is injured. If injured they say 0% chance of playing. Hazard says 75%

          I completely disagree.

Firstly, a report that a player is having extra physio to completely recover a knock or bruise doesn't create a fitness doubt, especially when he just played 90 with that knock.

Secondly, it isn't even-handed, players at less high-profile clubs won't get little visits to the physio reported widely in the press. The Stoke Sentinel reported Bony as having a small problem around a month ago but no-one else picked it up because Stoke players don't sell national newspapers or generate clicks. He was never flagged. Had that been Hazard he would have been.

Rigour and discernment is what we need. No flags until there is clear evidence FROM THE PLAYER OR CLUB that there's a problem that creates a doubt of ability to play. Or until a player has actually missed a game with that problem. Hazard isn't 75% to play. He's 99% to play.

I don't buy the "managers need to be protected against bad transfer decisions" argument either. People are happily transferring AFCON players in as we speak. AFCON is certain. Why isn't that flagged then?

The whole thing is illogical and wrong.

People need to think a bit for themselves. If they are on the fpl website all the information is at their fingertips. To flag something is to bring information to light. That's all they're doing. I don't see anything wrong with it.
            Afcon will be flagged.

              But Champ, what information?

If people need to think for themselves they can find out that Hazard is having a bit of extra physio. It's just the same.

Having a bit of extra physio doesn't create an injury doubt, that's the point. Players play with knocks all the time, always have done. I saw an interview with JT a while ago when he spoke about exactly that. He reckoned that he went onto the pitch with some niggle or knock or soreness in in around 70% of all the games he ever played. Vary rarely was he 100% pain-free.

These are professional sportsmen. It goes with the territory.

Totally agree about the bony point. However when a player is widely reported to be a doubt it's surely a duty to be flagged. If you're intelligent enough to figure out that it's rubbish then all power to you. Not sure bout your afcon point though, Flags only relevant for the next gw. Afcon not till 21, 20 at the earliest

Hazard hasn't been reported anywhere to be a doubt. The Guardian is one place that reported the extra physio. They never implied he might miss the Bournemouth game because of it, actually they discussed the possibility of him starting upfront (he won't, it will be Batshuayi).

The AFCON thing is because Mark says that managers must be protected from making poor transfer decisions. You don't think that transferring in a player that will shortly leave for AFCON is a poor decision? You don't think that some who are getting Mané or Nyom (though he may not go) or Zaha would think twice if they knew?

You can't cover all the bases. So bring it back to basics. An injury doubt is created when there's clear evidence of an injury. Not by some slow news day newspaper froth about someone having an extra massage.

Protecting managers from making poor decisions is very vague. Could argue Stones should be flagged as far from nailed and Man city defence is interesting to say the least.
To be fair I've not read the Hazard story so shouldn't really comment

It's harder to flag players with lower ownership and from smaller clubs because it is usually just one odd report. A Hazard "injury" article is often picked up by multiple news outlets and so it's easier to flag popular players. You seriously cannot expect FPL to look through every article on every player at every club before flagging.

As to the AFCON argument, one week punts are a thing. There was a hot topic I think about someone just rotating the big hitters weekly i.e. Costa to Kane one week, Kane to Kun the next week, etc. You get a free transfer every week to reverse your transfer if you choose to and so why should a player likely to play the next week be flagged?

That's not my point. Actually my point is the opposite. We don't need a nanny state flag system which flags players that aren't injured. That has been done with Hazard multiple times already this season, even when his manager had said he was fine.

I want less flags, not more. And I want there to be actual evidence behind them, not froth, hearsay and surmise.

But they go hand in hand especially when you brought up the issue with Bony's lack of flag. There has to be a balance especially when it comes to popular players. You cannot leave a high ownership player like Coutinho unflagged when the club takes 3-4 days to confirm his ankle injury. That may mean thousands of transfers in when it was obvious to anyone who watched the game that he'd be out for a while. It should not be required of an FPL player to watch games, read news articles before making transfers. There are plenty of people who are new to the game, and it's unreasonable to expect everyone to look up news stories on tens of players as potential transfers before bringing them in. It is up to the game to keep them engaged and make things as easy and exciting for them as possible.

Also, what is the actual problem with them flagging someone too soon? You, as an experienced FPL player, do your own research, and are able to decide if it's an injury that is serious or not. Hazard being flagged affects you in absolutely no way other than a potential delay in 0.1m profit. It, however, stops a casual from potentially bringing in players who will have been ruled out later in the week. Your less flags approach will only work if transfers can only be made after Friday press conferences. If I can make my transfer any time during the week, the game better tell me as soon as it knows if someone is sulking for not receiving cake, lest I bring him in.

Here's some quotes from the reports...

"With Diego Costa and N'Golo Kante suspended for the clash with Bournemouth on Boxing Day, Chelsea will be desperate for Hazard to overcome the knee complaint. If the Belgian is unable to prove his fitness, Pedro could come into the starting line-up."

"Club sources insist the injury is not serious and that he is expected to be fit for the Boxing Day home game with Bournemouth. Costa and key midfielder N’Golo Kante will be suspended, so Conte is taking no chances on Hazard’s fitness."

You don't think that, on reading these quotes from two separate reports, that these don't suggest any element of doubt whatsoever?

Quotes like "Expected to be fit" and "Unable to prove fitness" - if you read those, you'd still 100% buy the player today without any hesitation or the need to perhaps wait till Friday for the press conference?

The fact is, folk who could be considering Hazard can read these reports, buy him and then, if he doesn't play, refer back to these and wonder why they weren't alerted. That's what the flag is for - minor doubts - some concerns - some element of doubt that he may not be 100% available for the next match.

You say that "If people need to think for themselves they can find out that Hazard is having a bit of extra physio. It's just the same."

The flag does just that, it alerts them to the fact that "something" is being reported. Without it, how do they find these reports? It's sound's like you're objecting to folk getting a heads up when that's what the flags are for and have always looked to achieve.

Unless you completely dismiss reports from the Guardian, Star, Sun and Express - there is clearly "something" surrounding Hazard otherwise he would have surely been given the break.

If you already have you mind made up and are informed and confident he is 100% fit, why is there an issue?

Yes, high profile players are more in the news and therefore, there will be more reports surrounding them but then the flags can only report on what is out there. That's the same all over, it's the high profile players that earn enquiries in press conferences so it's those names we often hear about in terms of fitness and availability - we may not hear that Billy Jones is struggling from Moyes because he's only asked about Defoe. That happens.

Re: AFCON squads are not named until January and an article will be going out before Xmas to warn on players. No flags can be added because no AFCON player is a doubt for the next match - flags only apply to the next Gameweek. Mane is not a doubt for Boxing Day so why would a flag be added? There is no method of warning on impending absence but that's the same for loanees ahead of playing parent clubs - folk are warned only before the Gameweek - they have to research themselves if they want that kind of warning.

The fact that flags address only the next Gameweek is not really illogical, then.

"You don't think that, on reading these quotes from two separate reports, that these don't suggest any element of doubt whatsoever?"

Nope. What I see there is froth. "Club sources insist the injury is not serious and that he is expected to be fit" is the closest to anything tangible and it doesn't suggest a doubt. What do you think "expected to be fit" means?

He was flagged before last weekend even after Conte said he had trained normally. He played 90 minutes last weekend. He is now getting a bit more treatment on the knock. It hasn't prevented him from playing and there's no indication that it will prevent him from playing, in fact the club are saying the opposite.

"Unless you completely dismiss reports from the Guardian, Star, Sun and Express - there is clearly "something" surrounding Hazard otherwise he would have surely been given the break."

Yes there is something. A minor knock that he's getting extra recovery for. Nothing that would stop him playing as evidenced by last weekend. Not an injury. Not a 25% doubt. Just the kind of thing that professional sportsmen deal with all the time.

"If you already have you mind made up and are informed and confident he is 100% fit, why is there an issue?"

Well, I am pretty well informed on Chelsea players as it happens. Why it's an issue is that it annoys me to see this proliferation of unnecessary flags.

Do FFS advise on flags, Mark? Do you? Would you mind giving a clear answer to that?

FPL has gone worldwide. beIN Sports is all over Asia and the mid-East and has regular programmes dedicated to FPL. They mirror and adopt FFS views, bandwagons, twitter feed and so on. FFS is hugely influential within the game and because of that it has the capacity to affect the game itself rather than commenting on it. It can promote transfers in or out. It can create or derail bandwagons. It can cause price volatility. If it/you advise on flags as well then even more care needs to be taken. Not a hair-trigger response such as we are currently seeing. Something more rigorous and considered.

Even when the club say there's not an issue?

When Hazard was injured in the Belgium game he was immediately flagged. His manager said 30 or 40 minutes later that he was fine. The flag remained for a week.

There is a pattern here. The manager says he's fine, the flag remains. The papers create some fuss because it's Hazard and the flag goes up. The club says it's very minor and he's expected to be available and the flag remains.

It's all froth. Take it from people that actually have first-hand knowledge - the club, the manager, the player. Not from vague newspaper reports designed to produce an enticing headline or a few extra clicks.

The point is its not the job of fpl to decide what story has substance and what story does not, they are merely flagging that there's a story out there. Unfortunately this gonna affect big name players a lot more regularly but that's just the way of the world.
The flags merely point out that there is stuff out there questioning a player's potential availability.
I don't understand why this is an issue; why does it matter if a player flagged?

As has been said a number of times the flag is there if there is a doubt and there are multiple news sources saying that Chelsea hope to have him fit for the Bournemouth game and that he is still carrying an injury.

The flag system is there to indicate there is a small doubt, or big doubt. In this case it is a small doubt because there are multiple news sources indicating that he is a small doubt.

It's up to managers how they interpret that and assess whether they think he'll play.

Currently though there is a small doubt so that is my take on why they've flagged it.

Note - I am just mentioning what we take to be the rationale behind flags so don't shoot the messenger 😉

          There's a subtle difference here.

As far as I am concerned a flag means a player IS injured. Hazard's flag indicates that he's injured but has a 75% chance to recover in time. And that's not the case.

Hazard's flag should not mean there's a 75% chance that he MAY BE injured. That would be surmise. But that's exactly what this current flag is.

For clarity, can you confirm what part FFS and Mark specifically play in advising on flags?

As said don't shoot the messenger.

The flags are there if there is doubt about him not starting the next game.

Whether that is a right or wrong criteria is something you'd need to take up with FPL.

As Mark has said FFS along with a number of other sources provide information to FPL about injury news etc. FPL decide on who gets flagged and why a flag should be in place.

If you want to have a lengthy discussion about flags and why they are there and what the criteria should be then you really need to be directing them to FPL.

Thanks Jonty. Could you let me have the email address of the person at FPL that makes these decisions? Maybe you could email it to me if you don't want to post it here.

I will now cease and desist from commenting on this issue here. But I hope you understand how annoying it is to see endlessly repeated questions on the FFS forum (look back and you will see them) about Hazard and why he is flagged. I am left having to either ignore them or to explain multiple times over that he isn't really injured at all. And all because of a flag that I don't believe should be there.

Ah well. Clearly we have different ideas about what a flag is supposed to be. 🙁

As said - I'm not offering any opinion on what I think a flag should be - I'm merely saying what FPL's criteria is.

I don't have an email address but I'd assume there'd be a customer support one somewhere on their site.

The reports have clearly created a doubt though. Completely agree Ruth that it's not really an injury but that's for us managers to decide.
Yes it's annoying that it wouldn't make the papers if a lesser player/club but it's not fpl job to subjectively decide the validity, it's ours.

Cheers jonty, defo flag worthy then. It's the lesser of 2 evils. Soon as he flagged any player welcome to check out why and figure out how valid. If don't flag and he's benched players will be annoyed it wasn't mentioned

I just did that. Apparently flagging is a hazard. Motorists kill 20 flaggers every year

A lot of people seem to be selling Costa this week.

Here's a thing - the scouts rightly highlighted the threat of rotation over the next two with the fixtures so close together, and viewed from that perspective Costa's suspension is an early Christmas present. We know he won't play this week, and is pretty much 100% to start the week after.

In my team that means that I can happily captain Ibra and bench Costa this week, and for gw19, when there has to be chance that players like Ibra and Sanchez won't start Costa is there as the captaincy candidate that you can feel sure about.

If you got a decent sub and already have ibra/no interest in getting ibra or have loads of value tied up then keep, no brainer.

Do you think that people who sold Costa won't be buying him back next week?

You gain no advantage over them, they'll buy back .2 or .3 cheaper and won't have to bench a premium asset.

Most that sold Costa will also be captaining Ibra with you and also pocketing his .2 or .3 rise.

Think Costa to Ibra then Kane to Costa is going to be the transfer for a lot of people over next couple

Kane to Costa before Kane is at Watford is not entirely straightforward I think. But yeah, it'll be a popular move.

was all set on Kane to Ibra, but after Costa 5th, even with kane at StMary, i sold Costa.
Costa is getting 0 this GW...Kane??? never know
But now i'm stuck with Kane until GW20, because (as you said Watford is to good to pass). That leaves me Kane to Kun...just need to find that money.

          U guys think Kun play Liv(A) and Bur(H) ?

Saving a transfer is not much of an advantage is it? You get 1 a week to improve your chances of scoring points, I doubt very few use transfers to bring in players who won't score points and said transfer will have to be used the following week or be lost.

        Hardly season defining is it?

As someone who finds it very hard to save a transfer, I value a chance to fix an actual problem a lot more. Costa out and back in just provides a distraction, and guys like Stones/Williams remain in your teams for weeks. If you have, say a Sanchez or Hazard, I don't think it's necessary to get Ibra if it means you can turn a Stones into an Alonso. No guarantees also of a points return, right? One Harry Kane against Burnley and Hull. All those dreams of back-to-back 34 pointers. 🙁

Exactly, no guarantee of points, so why not maximise the big hitters

Good post, I am doing the same, benching Costa for DeRoon's 2 points, but I fancy him with the way he is playing and I don't want to waste 2 transfers on getting back the same player when the fixtures are turning for a lot of teams soon.

    Heaton
    Alonso Cedric Daniels Holebas
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Sigurdsson
    Ibrahimovi(c) Origi

    Pickford Fletcher Amat Costa

Not the best team for this week. But will have to make do. G2G?
