The Weekend Team News

West Ham’s want-away Dimitri Payet is excluded from the squad to face Palace. Theo Walcott and Hector Bellerin look set to miss out as Arsenal travel to Swansea, while Chris Brunt will be assessed ahead of West Brom’s visit to Spurs.

Slaven Bilic has conceded that Dimitri Payet won’t be considered for selection after asking to leave West Ham in the winter transfer window. Michail Antonio is currently suffering from a virus but the Hammers boss remains hopeful he will return to training today ahead of a home match with Crystal Palace. James Collins is back in contention after recovering from a calf complaint.

Reports suggest that Hector Bellerin and Theo Walcott remain sidelined through ankle and calf problems respectively for Arsenal’s trip to Swansea, with the latter also expected to miss next week’s clash against Burnley. Mesut Ozil is back in contention, though, after recovering from illness.

Heurelho Gomes, Jose Holebas and Juan Camilo Zuniga are all available for Watford’s clash with Middlesbrough. Walter Mazzarri is hopeful on returns for Valon Behrami and Stefano Okaka, though Daryl Janmaat remains a big doubt and Isaac Success is still sidelined through injury.

Victor Valdes and Viktor Fischer are set to return for Middlesbrough’s clash with Watford, though Antonio Barragan and Gaston Ramirez are set to miss out.

Swansea’s Neil Taylor is ruled out for around three weeks with a fractured cheekbone sustained in training. New signing Luciano Narsingh is unavailable to face Arsenal due to a minor calf complaint.

Steven Davis will be assessed ahead of Southampton’s trip to Burnley, though Jordy Clasie has been passed fit after being withdrawn late on during the midweek cup win over Liverpool.

Erik Lamela remains sidelined for Spurs’ home match with West Brom due to an ongoing ankle complaint.

Jamie Vardy and Andy King have both recovered from illness and are available for Leicester’s clash with Chelsea. Leonardo Ulloa is almost certain to miss out due to a thigh problem, while Claudio Ranieri has confirmed that new signing Wilfred Ndidi could be in line for his league debut.

Stoke are without Jon Walters for the trip to Sunderland, with the Irishman set to undergo knee surgery. Bojan is a major doubt due to a hip problem as rumours of a move to Middlesbrough gather pace.

Chris Brunt will be assessed ahead of West Brom’s trip to Spurs after missing the FA Cup clash against Derby due to illness. Jonny Evans remains sidelined through injury, whilst the Baggies are still waiting for clearance on Allan Nyom, who has returned to the club after opting not to play for Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sam Allardyce is optimistic that Christian Benteke will recover from a shoulder problem in time for Palace’s trip to West Ham. James McArthur is expected to be available after returning to full training.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Thanks - yeah I brought him in for a direct trade with Origi last week before the prices shifted with the WBA run of fixtures in mind. Might as well play vs. Spurs.

I don't have Phillips so I figured Rondon could be a nice WBA differential.

Chambers I'd say, seems to be in the BAPs and Boro very defensive so not scoring much. More about hoping they get cleanies in even matchups.

Okay, do not take this as gospel. I believe Friend & Fabio are the 1st choice FB's, even when Barragan returns. But, I am not the manager so Chambers is the safest option.

      1. Adam West - Team Serbia for…
        • 13 Years

Barragan was first choice right back up until the injury . Friend started the United game and got dropped the next game and only came on because Barragan got injured . I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion

        1. Netley Lucas
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 3 months ago

Thing is, Fabio has been really good, I don't think it's between Fabio & Friend, it's Fabio or Barragan imho. Did you watch the game v LEI?

Bear in mind too, that Friend is returning from injury and he did play in the tougher of the 2 games over that period. I know it's a bit messy, but I think Friend is nailed.

Phillips last due to Spurs being immense at the back

Thanks. That's what I was thinking as well as trying to squeeze Giroud in but don't think that's possible without taking a hit unless it's for Costa.

Want to ditch Stones as well but Clean Sheets seem tough to predict this week so think I'll just leave it until next week with kinder fixtures.

I like D there. No imperative to remove Amat this GW as you have sufficient defensive cover. See what happens this week in terms of injuries and if Amat (miraculously - he's so awful) starts then maybe do the upgrade to Mustafi.

BBC weather presenter Louise Lear said whilst the weather situation had been "generally improving" since the morning, Friday night was going to be "horrendous".

She told BBC News: "It is a full Moon at the moment so the gravitational pull of the Moon is at its strongest across the waters. Coupled with potentially strong gusts of winds, which are 60mph at the moment, it could mean the toppling over of flood defences.

"It is getting better, but we must, must stress tonight is going to be horrendous, with temperatures down to -9 and -10, which means a potential skating rink for Saturday."

Sunday is set to be cold, damp, drizzly and mild.

You're a clever bloke, Jarv. Explain to me why a full moon would mean its gravitational pull is greater. Why would that make any difference?

there is a force of attraction between two bodies. Be it between earth and moon, earth and sun, even earth and mars and can be quanitifed by and equation in which the distance is key. Closer the distance between the bodies, greater the gravitational pull. =)

FT already used. Do I need to take a hit to improve this defence?

    Alonso, Holebas, Jones, (Ake) (Love)

Alonso/Ake - one will go but which one needs more info, so wait a GW
Holebas is vs MID this week so might get me 6
Jones - rotation risk but with other defensive issues happy to hold
Love - 1 point last minute on the pitch special but he's only 4.0m so enables rest of team.

So it would be Holebas I took a hit for and most likely for Chambers (save the money) or Daniels vs Hull so possible instant payback.
